Customers are saying

Customers are enthusiastic about the AX6000 Dual Band Wi-Fi 6 Router's impressive range, ease of use, and strong performance, both wired and wireless. Many appreciate the numerous Ethernet ports and the straightforward setup process. While some find the price a bit high, the positive feedback on performance and range outweighs this concern for most users. The router's Wi-Fi 6 capabilities and robust security features are also frequently praised.

Excellent router! The only downside is that there are some configurations needed to optimize routing speed.

All the listed specs for this ASUS router look great on paper. Combined 6000 mbps capability, 2 USB ports with the ability to share files throughout the network, 8 ethernet ports, AiMesh Capable...what else could you ask for? Initial setup was actually a little bit of a chore. The app was fairly easy,as was the web based interface. But something in the system just wasn't playing nicely. After a slight "warm up period" and about 10 minutes I had this router up and running with a reliable connection. This router took the place of another high ranked ASUS router, the Blue Cave AC2600. Compared side by side, the AX6000 router was consistently giving me better speed and range than the Blue Cave with both bands, which lead to me rarely having to switch from the 5ghz band to the 2.4ghz. Internet speed has bever been a struggle for me, but its always nice to run those speed tests and see that you are getting more of the internet that you pay for. After verifying speed and range, I moved on to the part that had me really excited...AiMesh! As I said before, the AX6000 router took the place of the ASUS Blue Cave AC2600. I didn't have any issues or complaints really with the Blue Cave, but Asus recommends putting the most feature rich router as the main router (AX6000 wins without question) and use any subsequent routers as nodes. I had been running a multiple router setup for a while, but had to go about it the hard way in logging into the 192.168.x.x home page and playing with settings in order to get good coverage throughout my house. That time has passed. With the new router finished, I immediately went into the Asus App and began setting up the Blue Cave as an AiMesh node. Unfortunately, this was also a little bit of a chore as I had to reset the router several times in order for the program to find it, but after another 10 minutes or so, I had the secondary router set up as a node. I initially completed the setup in the same room as the primary router, but after completion I moved the node into my office and plugged in an ethernet cord that I had running from the primary router to the office. I plugged in the node and after about 5 minutes the node was up and running, using the wired connection to bridge the AiMesh and blanketing my home with amazing internet speeds from either end of the home. Everywhere I go now in my home I have FULL signal. The Asus AX6000 router is an amazing piece of equipment that will be even more amazing as consumer electronics catch up to its advancements in technology. I do recommend this product to anyone looking for a great power plant to fuel your home network as everything about it screams 5 stars. Despite all of the greatness of the router, however, the setup just seemed to give me fits. It never didn't work, but the entire setup felt like it had stayed up too late the night before and hadn't had its caffeine yet to get going. Once up and running though, I have never been happier with the internet coverage in my house. Side note: One of my laptops has been struggling with the new router. I don't know if its the new style band not cooperating with the wifi card in the 2018 Dell, but when any other device is getting over 500 mbps internet, this laptop is only getting 40 mbps. I have triend updating the driver, but Asus does warn that certain products may struggle with the newer technology included in the AX6000.

Worked great while it worked. Within 6 months the Ethernet port stopped working. To be fair, this may not be a problem with the product. I suspect there was an issue with my isp as I had the same problem with the replacement netgear.

Many reviews contain references to the reviewer’s level of expertise for the purpose of giving that review some gravitas, believable or not. In this case, the reviewer is ‘cursed’ with a 40 year level of expertise in all things computers. I say cursed because it is indeed painful to be subjected to inane support interviews by a vendor of a defective product. The other side of this coin is that support is rarely needed. I had heard all of the horror stories about Asus support but until now, I hadn’t needed it. That all changed with the acquisition of the Asus RT-AX88U router. The router was acquired to upgrade an existing network anchored by a pair of Asus RT-AC86U routers in an AIMesh setup. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the existing network but I tend to be an adopter of new tech. It’s a curse. In this case that new tech is WIFI 6 and the RT-AX88U has mostly great reviews. To quote PCMAG.COM, “The Asus RT-AX88U is the best Wi-Fi 6 router we've tested to date.” TechRadar says “one of the best Wi-Fi 6 routers available right now.” Wash, rinse, repeat for other reviewers. Black Friday comes around and this router is seriously discounted, so I pulled the trigger. It actually was delivered on Black Friday. From that point an entire weekend was spent trying to get this to work. Asus support was contacted the following day. The primary issue was that it wouldn’t connect to my ISP. The error message was “ISP's DHCP did not function properly.” Use that error as a search term returns almost 10,000 discussion items mostly involving Asus routers. I tried all kind of work arounds over the weekend to no avail. I also spent a great deal of time creating numerous log and debug files and sending them to Asus support. Four days later a response from Asus asked for the same files all over again and just for good measure, threw in a few more requests for info including them wanting a ‘topology’ diagram of my network. Seriously? Finally, Asus support says this brand new router should be sent back to them for repair. A brand new router needs repair? Finally, the router was returned to the original vendor for a full refund. I pity those without any background in these things being subjected to this level of support and poorly engineered and tested products.

Very complicated to setup, especially when compared with other comparable routers. Had worked fine for several months after purchase, then started requiring extensive troubleshooting despite no changes to settings. While the speed and performance is great, the experience of using this is not one I would recommend to others.
