    Great Product but Unreliable

I was really excited about these in the beginning. They worked well, was screaming fast, and had lots of configuration options, but I kept having issues with the 2.4ghz band dropping out until it finally dropped out altogether. Asus did send me a replacement which was great, but when the same thing eventually happened I had to switch to a new brand. Hopefully the new versions will be a little more stable because as a product I loved it

    Issues with Ethernet ports

I am an ASUS router user for many years. This is the first one that have given me some problems. While the WIFI signal and range is great, I couldn't say the same for the Ethernet ports. It was down multiple times. I have to power cycle the router in order to recover. I have done that at least 1-3 a week since this router has been installed. Very annoying indeed. I have ensured my firmware is up to date but it does not help...

Many firmware bugs. 1st tier asus cant help, knows so little, doesnt even ask the right questions. They tell you to fill iut the feedback tab for problems and that doesnt work, keeps saying their are characters that are not acceptable to submit. So that doesnt work either, youre email has to have punctuation mandatorily.

Issues 1) Frequent Connection drops of 5Ghtz Channel 2) Becomes unresponsive and only way out is to restart both the nodes. 3) Since last couple of days the Secondary node will not connect to the primary node. tried multiple times and no luck Absolute garbage, Please don't waste your money, It can be only be used as an expensive paper weight

      Dear AjithP,

Firstly, we would like to extend our sincerest apologies for the issues you're having with the device and for the inconvenience, this has caused you. ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and final inspections for both hardware and software before we send them out to the stores worldwide. ASUS provides a warranty for the unit in order to fix or repair any isolated factory escape defect. This information will be passed on to our development team. We would be very happy to assist you. We are recommending completing a hard reset on the router.

      1. Turn the router power off.
      2. Press and hold the "WPS" button and turn the router on.
      3. Power light is on (keep holding the WPS button).
      4. Power light starts flashing for about 5 seconds.
      5. Keep holding until the power light stops flashing and the router will automatically reboot.

Please ensure the router is running the latest firmware version. We truly appreciate your feedback. **Cannot support over 50 devices**

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I've been waiting a long time to post this review. I've also been working with ASUS tech support pretty much since I got the devices. From the first week I've had issues with the primery node rebooting itself periodically. Like once a week to every other week. The problem is when it reboots it does not always acquire the IP address from my cable modem (which has not been the problem). When this happens the only solution is a power-on-reset the router (which if I'm traveling is impossible). I have been reporting each event to senior Asus TS. I have reported over 40 failures, some that recovered properly, other required a physical reset. They have replaced my hardware (with refurb). My networking situation may not refect yours. I have about 10 windows computers, 10 linux devices, ~10 TV/DVD/Roku devices, and around 50 smart home devices. Based on discussions with ASUS, I also have another WiFi network for other smart lighting (and smart xMas lights), with 20+ devices on it. It was clear the RT-AX92U could not handle 90+ devices. So we got my network down to 70-80 devices. I still have 5 ethernet switches (32, 8, 8, 8, 8 ports; all 1gb). In Aug/Sept I was assured this would be fine. It has not been. By Nov some in their TS told me that the router was hanging due to running out of memory (color me NOT suprised). The RT-AX92U has 512mb memory, it obviously needs more. The dumps, which I learned to read pretty well, clearly indicated memory/reboot issues. In Dec Asus started providing me with firmware pre-releases. They were confident that these would help/fix the problem. The Also had me de-configure attached disks, and several of their smart networking features. And by Jan the had me disable VPN support, which I did reluctantly, for test purposes (its still disabled). To decrease memory usage they crippled the modem, disableling most advanced functionality (except meshing). I was still getting restarts, some still required a physical resets. Many times I'd have to reprogram reset multiple of my smart devices (this could take me an hour or more). In March I got a new final firmware release. I ran for 11 days, 7 days and 15 days. Obviously problem NOT solved. I've tried to get them to replace the primary router with one that has 1gb memory - they will not do so. When the RT-AX92U works it works well, it meshs easily, it's fast, especially with both routers hardwared together. I have a 1gb connection via cable modem, hardwaired devices can achieve 930mb throughtput, WiFi6 devices can achieve 400-600mb, WiFi5 devices can get 250-300mb. So speed is not an issue, stability is. I'm a computer/networking professional. I think I was very helpful in providing Asus useful information reguarding the problems I'd encounterd. When the RT-AX92U first came out they promoted it as supporting a 6000sq ft house, with increased support for more devices via WiFi6. These words have been removed, for good reason. The RT-AX92U cannot support a large number of devices (and more than half of mine are very low speed most of the time). The RT-AX92U cannot reset itself reliably (their suggestion schedule a weekly reset - I doubt this would work reliable based on my past history, and this is NOT a real solution, I expect my networking infrastructure to work 24/7, the RT-AX92U cannot perform to this standard. My previous router (N*tg**r Nighthawk - Wifi5 only) ran for years without resetting, the only time I reset it was when firmware updates required a reset (some did not). I can't bring myself to spend more time/money on Asus; if I could have proved that one of their 1gb memory routers worked better, I have liked to. But they don't have a means to make this happen. So if your planning on using RT-AX92U in Smart Home, where the number of devices is likely to continue to increase I DO NOT recommend the RT-AX92U. If you planing on having over 50 devices at any point I DO NOT recommend the RT-AX92U. For simple networking the RT-AX92U is probably a fine choice. Asus support seemed to be working with me honestly, but not being able to replace the RT-AX92U with a shipping unit (even refurb) w/1gb shows, to me, they (and their management) didn't care to discover the real soultion, so I'd avoid their networking products entirely.

Very good, but requires some tinkering

My initial setup: AT&T GigaPower internet (1 Gbps), with required ISP-provided gateway. I connected one of the Asus routers to the AT&T gateway and began the setup process, which was pretty straightforward. After pairing the two Asus routers over wireless, I placed the second one upstairs as a point and linked them via in-wall Ethernet cables, with a bridge mode Apple AirPort Extreme between them. I encountered a few problems with connection stability early on, but I was able to resolve them by changing the DHCP query frequency to "Normal" (the default is "Aggressive"). Note that 802.11ax is broadcast only on the 5GHz-2 band. You will need to make the SSD of this band visible if you intend to use it. 160 MHz channels also need to be enabled, as they are off by default. The 802.1ax speeds seem to work best if you use Ethernet backhaul. If you do use Ethernet, make sure to set it as the priority for the point; the default is "Auto," which will often resort to wireless even in the presence of a wired connection. Once I got everything configured, I was getting over 800 Mbps down on my iPhone 11 Pro Max. That's pretty good, especially considering that this is far cheaper than other solutions that also take the 802.11ax as backhaul approach.

This system works very well with my ASUS got-ax11000.... when it’s set up right. People, make very sure to put your main modem in bridge mode to prevent freezing. And turn off WDS on the modem as it’s already active in the router itself. Having that on in both will cause network problems. Make sure if at all possible to hardline the first ai mesh in the chain. It will make it easier to maintain the wireless network after that. I’d definitely recommend these to people with 2000+ sq foot homes.

Generally underwhelming. When they were the only mesh nodes on the network the backhaul was AX but the main bands were AC. I now have GT-AX11000 as main nodes and the AX92U units (these ones) perform unreliably either by going offline or rebooting at unexpected time.
