Excellent Laptop Computer
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop computer has been great for me. I like the big screen and it’s very easy to operate. Very sturdy and it travels well. I use it primarily for work, but it would be a great school computer as well as a great computer for games and movies.

It’s ok
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It’s fine for the price but I might be returning it since the battery is worse than I thought. It isn’t lasting 12 hours like it should, I have to charge it every few hours. It’s kind of laggy when I’m working and from my understanding the GPU is on the low side which makes sense. It’s a cute laptop for minimal stuff but I think I’ll return it for a better one. I also prefer a backlit keyboard since my room can be dim, but that’s just a preference.

No wonder this deal was too good to be true
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop had a horrendous screen, somehow worse than my old 5 year old $130 laptop. The viewing angles were something else on this laptop...I was expecting at least a 20% percent upgrade over my last laptop but it ended up being a huge downgrade overall. As soon as I unboxed and opened the laptop I knew right away that it was awful. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRODUCT!!!!

Portable sturdy Chromebook, does the basics
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS CM1402 is a solid portable Chromebook, with some decent specs for the price point. In the box is the Chromebook, charger, and USB mouse. Setup is via Google, so similar to any other Chromebook. It truly is plug and play, especially if you already have a Google account. Once set up, the computer is easy to navigate. For anyone not familiar with Chromebooks, they are bare bones devices primarily designed for web interface and used in many schools for this reason. There is a folder and internal storage for downloading items, and shortcuts to Google cloud applications. My review is based on using this device for remote data input when I travel to field locations. I needed something highly portable, durable, able to connect to wifi, and that will allow me to access databases remotely. The review is based on a week of use, and ultimately I find this is a solid little device for my needs. Specs on the CM1402 is that it comes with an eight core MediaTek Kompanio 523 processor with integrated graphics, 4 GB of RAM, 64 GB storage, and a 14" screen. There is a front facing 720p camera, built in microphone and has the following ports: microsd card reader, headphones in, USB-A, USB-C (Thunderbolt 4), lock port for a security cable all on the left side, then a USB-C (Thunderbolt 4) power port on the right side. The Chromebook also offers both wireless (WiFi 6) and Bluetooth connectivity. The laptop weighs in at 3.25 lbs, so again, great portability. As for screen quality, refresh rate is 60 Hz, 250 nits brightness, and full HD resolution (1920 x 1080). This means you can stream HD movies and expect to achieve this quality, however you may experience buffering lag. The screen hinges will fold 180 degrees for a truly flat format. I found this helpful for when I was moving around the laptop entering in data, I was standing above the table, so by folding flat I didn't have to angle myself to see the screen as I moved. With Chromebooks, the screen resolution, brightness, and processor power all drive how long the battery will last. This build gives me a full 12 hours of battery life, based on approximately 50% active use and 50% stand by, which I recharge every night. So far, there are zero issues with connectivity, stability, lag when doing simple processes such as data entry, and the screen is easy to view both outside with a canopy over my work area and in dark environments. Based on the specs, this is a budget build, surprisingly it can deliver good results pending what you need it for. It isn't going to be your preferred device for gaming, streaming UHD content, or heavy multitasking. The camera does allow for video conferencing, but the camera resolution is low and washout is a problem if in a bright room or outdoors. Another consideration is that there is no CPU cooling system, so if operating in hot environments, this will be similar to a cell phone and you'll have to make sure it doesn't overheat. Overall if you need something that is portable, somewhat durable, and doesn't need to manage a heavy processor load, this Chomebook is a solid laptop at a great price point.

|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Review of Asus Chromebook 14” Laptop with MediaTek Kompanio 520 * 4GB The Chromebook from ASUS is packed with necessary components for basic tasks like browsing, view movie, write documents, create/edit simple images. Unpacking and getting it ready with chrome os’s process is not very different to setting any new Chromebooks. Once setup wifi connection, and enter user and log in, everything is ready. It is composed of internal components at high level: 1. Processor MediaTek Kompanio 520 2.0 2. Graphic ARM Mali-G52 MC2 3. Display is Non TouchScreen / FHD 4. Only support 180 angle. 5. 720p Camera With privacy shutter 6. Ports 2x USB-C / 1 USB-A 7. WiFI 6(802.11ax) Dual Band 8. Bluetooth 5.3 The package includes: 1. The Chromebook 2. Charger 3. Wired Mouse Having on hand, it feels extremely light and thin, starting to type fells relatively good with good response from each keystroke. The trackpad response well, it is comfortably well responsive. Using document editor or spreadsheet from Google didn’t feel any difference for the short time usage. Then in parallel viewing a video recording or Netflix were fine. Only struggled a bit when starting switching tabs and app and trying to use the chat. Battery wise, I watched Netflix for 3 hours, then left for next full day and still left about 40%, and this is in the context of not having any bluetooth connected audio and only WiFi. (Read this in the context of new device) What I wish it were included or do better: 1. Mouse connection USB were USB-C or it come with adaptor, or the mouse is wireless type This is because the Mouse is wired with USB-A type to connect to the laptop. And in the Chromebook the USB-A port is on the left side only. Although with the length of cable will be fine to use right handed user, but would have preferred to have connected on the right side. 2. Flip 360 3. Touchscreen 4. HDMI Port or additional USB-C or USB-A on the right side. 5. More storage to have less dependency on external hard drive. In summary, it is decent device with acceptable performance for the price point, and probably can do more tasks and entretain more that the price paid but in the context of simple usages without complex multimedia edition for instance. It is easy to carry as it is being light. For instance for kids taking to the school will be very good use cases. It has relatively acceptable port number and built with latest version of Bluetooth. The screen definition could be better but wouldn’t impact much on use cases that are for video and image editing task for the processor used. But it could have expanded use cases if it would have included capability to flip 360 and touchscreen for more mobile experience. And for last, it is remarkable the audio for what is. Not bad, again this s exclusively for connected usage and can’t store files much locally unless using external hard drive or micro sd

Good for simple everyday tasks
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve been looking for a computer of some sort to use in the garage. I don't like using my phone, a tower PC takes up too much valuable garage space, and the old retired laptop I was using finally died. I don't need anything too special, simple browsing, checking things off my google sheets to-do list and watching how-to videos is about it. The ASUS Chromebook CM1402 seemed like a good fit. It showed up nice and safely packaged, felt like I was unboxing a premium item. I plugged in the included USB C charger and turned it on. Initial boot up and setup went quick and flawless. I already have a google account so it was just a matter of logging in. The CM1402 looks nice and feels nice in the hand. The top lid is smooth but the bottom side has a slight texture that helps when you are holding on to it when it’s closed. I like the gravity grey color. There is a downside to the color and smooth lid surface though. I wash my hands a lot and I have dry skin, but this Chromebook was still full of fingerprint smudges within minutes. They don't seem to clean off very easily either, I end up with streaks. The first time I went to type something on the keyboard, I put my fingers down and was feeling for the ‘index’ bumps on the F&J keys to get my fingers on the home keys and I couldn’t find the ‘bump’. I had to glance at the keyboard to find the home keys. There are little bumps on the F&J keys if you look close but they are right at the bottom edge of the key and it’s hard to see them and I can barely even feel them. This is definitely a downside for me. I’ll have to actually look to get my fingers on the home keys. Every other keyboard I’ve used I can feel my way to the home keys. Otherwise the keyboard feels good typing when your fingers are in the right spot. ASUS includes a wired mouse with the Chromebook, but it feels like a cheap plastic toy. Usable and functions, Yes, but consider it a free-bee that you won't care when it is lost or driven over by a truck. The mouse has a USB A connector and the only USB A on the CM1402 is on the left hand side. The cable is long enough to reach but it’s also stiff so it’ll just be floating around in the air. The included USB C charger has a nice long cable, about 6’, but IMHO the plug on the brick is facing the wrong direction. When you plug it into an outlet or power strip, it will block the outlet above or below it. The built in touchpad functions well. I’ve never been a big fan of touchpads, but ASUS once again has given me a touchpad that actually works well for me. I am quite impressed with the actual use of this Chromebook, it is leaps and bounds better than the last Chromebook I used. Bootup is quick, apps load fast. I didn’t have any lag or issues streaming and videos. I don’t notice any slow downs or issues even having multiple programs open, Gmail, calendar, multiple chrome tabs etc. It ran faster than I expected. WIFI was quick and had no problem maxing out my ISP speed at 350mbps The LCD however isn’t much to write home about. It works, it functions, you can read it, it’s bright enough for general use. However, the viewing angle isn’t great and it is a bit dull on the colors. If you are viewing in the sweet spot angle it looks ok but probably won't blow your socks off. I am happy to see a physical shutter for the camera and the camera quality is about what I expected, perfectly acceptable. There are 2 downward firing speakers in the case and they do a good job. They can get quite loud and sound pretty good for the tiny little drivers they are. The last thing to mention would be the battery, or should I say battery life. Which is pretty amazing if you ask me. I don't see any reason why it wouldn’t last all day like the specs say. The few times I used it unplugged, it barely used any battery. Overall I am pretty satisfied with the ASUS Chromebook CM1402. My biggest grip is probably the screen. If the screen were better quality I’d say the MSRP is a good price. With my couple little nit-picks as I mentioned above, and the screen as I see it, I’m not sure it’s worth that mid level price. ASUS advertises the 180deg lay flat hinge as a selling point so you can share visuals with your friends, when in reality, if you lay it flat, you can’t see anything due to the limited viewing angle. It is a powerful Chromebook that can handle all the basics that I would recommend to friends, but not at the msrp price point. 4 of 5 stars from me.

Pretty good budget Chromebook
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS CM1402 is a budget Chromebook, and therefore this review takes into account the price point and intended demographic. Overall, it’s a decent Chromebook with reasonable performance for the price, with some expected hardware shortcomings (but also a few pleasant surprises). It has a MediaTek Kompanio 520 SoC (with an integrated GPU), 4 GB RAM and a 64 GB SSD. Performance is middling, as expected -- there’s noticeable lag when navigating menus, and browsing is unsurprisingly slower than my high-end Chromebooks -- but during the course of my testing (mostly browsing, media streaming, forum posting, and productivity with Google Drive), the performance was acceptable, especially considering the price. 1080p 60fps YouTube videos streamed fine, but buffering pauses were common if resolution went up to 1440p. The main Android app I tested was Asphalt 9, which despite being 6 years old is still pretty demanding, and although it can run, the menus are laggy and the racing part itself is unplayably choppy. I would anticipate games like Roblox and Minecraft to have mediocre to poor performance as well. The non-touchscreen display is advertised as 1080p, which is a plus -- at this price point, I typically expect only 720p resolution. Interestingly, in the display settings, it’s possible for the resolution to go as high as 2194x1234, so this is almost a 2K display. Display quality is mediocre, though, with washed-out colors that have a pervasive blue tint (the photos show a side-by-side comparison with my Pixelbook), and terribly narrow viewing angles. Maximum brightness is 250 nits (the Pixelbook’s is 400 nits) -- in my indoor testing, it’s bright enough, but I wouldn’t try using it outdoors. The display has a matte finish, which I prefer over glossy. The keyboard is ok -- good spacing with decent tactile feel. Touchpad is quite good, with smooth tracking and brisk response to taps and clicks. The down-firing speakers are also a plus -- surprisingly loud without being distorted. The front-facing camera is pretty awful when testing a Zoom call -- extremely over-exposed in normal lighting, and grainy in lower lighting. At least there’s a manual privacy shutter which none of my higher end Chromebooks have. Battery life is good. I didn’t do any formal testing, but with mixed usage, I estimated about 10 hours on a full charge. Charging is via USB-C, which has thankfully become the standard, and a 45W charger is included. Connectivity is pretty good. There are 2 USB-C 3.2 ports (both supporting video output), 1 USB-A 3.2 port, a headphone jack, and a microSD slot. Wi-fi 6 is supported (which I don’t have). Build quality is pretty solid. Everything’s plastic. The lid is smooth and mildly glossy, so it’ll be a bit of a fingerprint magnet. The underside has a pleasant fine sandpapery texture that I kind of wish was on the lid as well. There’s very minimal flex overall. Despite the build quality, I wouldn’t call this rugged, and wouldn’t recommend it for small children. It’d be ok for middle and high school students, as long as they treat it with some respect. The device will be supported with system updates until June 2033, which I think goes well beyond the expected average duration of ownership. This Chromebook retails for $299, but I’ve seen it drop to $149 -- at this price, it’s a great value if you’re looking for a basic Chromebook for browsing, media consumption, and light productivity.

For casual users
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When it comes to Chromebooks, I think the biggest thing you must consider is the use case; not everyone needs them for professional tasks. Most people just need them for browsing the web and watching videos, and this is who the Asus CM1402 is made for. When it comes to your normal everyday consumer, this Chromebook is a solid choice. The WiFi connection is good (250 download speed) and the battery life is very good. I was able to get about 7 hours of browsing normal sites and using email/watching videos, the standby time is excellent. I never had to reset/restart the Chromebook and it was ready to go regardless of how long it was in standby. The build quality on the Asus CM1402 is great as it has passed military durability test for quality and even has a spill resistant keyboard. There are no rattles or creaking and the Asus CM1402 does not get hot no matter how you are using it. The screen hinges have a great tightness, so the screen does not wobble when you’re typing and you’re also able to fold the screen back 180 degrees. The trackpad on the Asus is surprisingly good and accurate. Asus also did not skimp out on the ports selections with USB C/A/micoSD/mini Kingston/headphone. With all that said, there are areas where improvement is needed. I wish that the screen was a better panel for videos as the colors are washed out and have no pop. The brightness of the screen is surprisingly good. Even when outside in the sun I was able to see everything. The speakers on the Chromebook are extremely low and you will need headphones. The audio on Bluetooth is also choppy, this happened across multiple apps, hopefully a software update can fix it. This Chromebook is by no means a powerhouse, it can play some games and you can multitask with 2 or 3 programs at once. If you are using it for intensive tasks then it will slow down, even with 4 tabs open on a browser and one other program I was seeing delays and stuttering. What slows down the Asus is the amount of memory and the type of memory being used (my configuration 4 GB ram and 64 GB eMMC); the 128 GB/8 GB model should not have slow down issue as the MediaTek chip seems to be more than sufficient for most normal tasks. Overall, this Chromebook is for someone that just wants to do casual browsing online and is ok without having the best content viewing experience. The battery life is good and the option of having most android apps available is huge. This is an introductory Chromebook for someone getting into the ecosystem that doesn’t have any demanding requirements however, if you’re already in the android eco system the continuity of apps and data is great.

Using More Than My Windows Computers!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a huge fan of the Asus Chromebook, and I find myself reaching for it more and more, even more than my actual Windows gaming laptop now! It just does the "laptop experience" right in pretty much every way. The Chromebook formula itself is a fantastic experience if you're highly integrated into the Google ecosystem, with a lightweight, simple yet effective operating system, amazing synchronization between your Google account, Android phones and all Google applications, as well as Android app support; it's hard to dislike! The software experience on this Chromebook model is particularly nice with a smooth experience in just about every application, especially when browsing the internet or streaming video thanks to the Mediatek processor being actually more capable than most other Chromebooks I've used! It takes really heavy processor load to see even a stutter or lag in the software experience, but I can confirm I've seen some lag at times; not to fret though, as it's never invasive on the user experience at all and rarely occurs! In fact, it happens far less on this Chromebook than on others I've used. The battery life is very reliable and can hold a good charge across many intermittent usage sessions, meaning you could super easily take this out to school or a coffee shop without bringing a charger. The form factor is fantastic, with a lightweight yet sleek sturdy design (I love the matte exterior!) including a nice, responsive and tactile keyboard and touchpad, many ports including a headphone port, micro sd card slot, 2 USB-C and 1 USB-A port(s), and a solid 180 degree hinge (best Chromebook keyboard and touchpad combo I've used so far, and the power button is extra "clicky"!). The Chromebook also has a pretty nice and clear display (not touchscreen), relatively standard speakers, as well as a webcam, which comes with a welcomed (!) built-in sliding privacy cover, that for sure works well for clear video calls. I would note that the screen has sort of poor viewing angles, meaning the screen easily gets washed out and hard to view if not looking straight on, but that's kind of the only complaint for the whole Chromebook! This Chromebook is extremely easy to recommend!

Solid, reliable ASUS Chromebook
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TL;DR: 1. SETUP: It was very easy. Make sure you have your Gmail and Password and setup is a breeze! 2. USE: It works well for it’s intended use 3. USABILITY: It’s very easy and works similarly to other Chromebooks 4. OVERALL: This ASUS Chromebook runs well and has great battery life This ASUS Chromebook is a good value. This is the first time I’ve used a MediaTek processor and I’m impressed. It’s not super fast, but I also didn’t notice any real lag. I mainly use a Chromebook for emails, social media, YouTube and streaming. It works well for that and would be a great device for a student. The screen isn’t ultra bright and would be best used not in direct sunlight. The setup was very easy. It took a moment before it wanted to power on. I plugged it in with the included USB-C wall adapter and it powered on quickly. I connected my wifi network, entered my Gmail and password and followed the on screen prompt. It did its thing (update software and do its full start-up/initiation functions). Total time to get it up and running was roughly 20 minutes. The physical look of the Chromebook looks very nice and has a high-end vibe to it. It’s made out of a plastic material with smooth, matte and textured surfaces. It should be durable to throw in a case or backpack and use it. It also comes with a wired mouse, too. This is a good buy and a solid computer.

A great travel laptop
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.ASUS Chromebook CM1402 14” Laptop - MediaTek Kompanio 520 - 4GB Memory 64GB eMMC Physically speaking this laptop is a well balanced lightweight hunk of plastic with enough grooves etched into the underside that your fingers are comfortably grippy. It’s clear that this casing is designed to take a beating. This was the first time I picked up a Chromebook and purposely thought I should knock it off the table to perform my own drop test. Would it survive? I decided I needed to finish this review before I broke it on the first day. The hinges on the case allow a 180 degree rotation backward which Asus markets as being great for collaborating with others. Personally the only useful thing I found with this rotation was to be able to run around the house like Lloyd and his boombox from the movie “Say Anything.” I took the laptop to my parents house. My mom spent 33 years teaching 3rd graders before she retired and I asked her what she thought of the 180 degree rotation in the context of teacher/student interaction. I was seated at the dining room table, she was standing behind my right shoulder. She leaned closer and immediately tried touching the screen thinking it was a touchscreen, which it is not. “That’s a bummer.” She tutted. Next she tried reading the text I had typed, but the default font was too small for her eyes. She asked “Does the screen rotate so a person sitting across from you can read what you are trying to show them?” No it does not. “That’s a bummer.” She tutted. We put the laptop back in the traditional clamshell display and we both continued to puzzle over who would want the 180 degree rotation without the touchscreen capability. I showed her my Loyd impression playing a video from Youtube. She agreed that might be the only functional use case for this feature but she commented that the speakers are too weak to make out what is being played in this position. The keyboard is comfortable to type on with solid keyclicks but it is not backlit. The bare minimum number of expansion ports included are divided between the two sides with a single USB-A (taken up immediately by the included mouse) and then a Thunderbolt USB-C on each side of the case (one used for charging). An RCA plug and a mini-SD card slot round out the connections. The trackpad is a good size but the entire computing experience is marred by the poor performing MediaTek Kompanio chipset making movements of the cursor jittery and I find myself overshooting where I want the mouse to be on a regular basis because the cursor is moving slower than my finger. The display and webcam are usable but not great. The best description I can give is not a description but in the unmodified attached photo. In the photo you’ll see from left to right, Apple’s new M4 iPad Pro 13 inch OLED display, in the center is the CM1402 with its LED display, and on the right is the Acer Chromebook Plus Spin 714 WUXGA display. This CM1402 is usable but color accuracy is not its best feature thus like many Chromebooks, it is better suited for writing papers than for watching videos. Functional but not great. Native ChromeOS apps perform at what I would consider the bare minimum performance levels. Everything is sluggish but functional which I struggle to describe in any way other than to say that if I was handing this laptop to a child under 13 years old I would be fine with this type of performance, but anyone older is going to be annoyed unless this is the first laptop they have ever owned. I was curious about cloud gaming and grabbed a second Asus Chromebook and sat down with my 16-year old son to attempt to fire up a game on Steam. This did not end well. This laptop is using a MediaTek Kompanio chipset, Steam thinks I’m launching the app on a phone which won’t allow any games to play - it only allows purchasing games. More annoying the Steam app thinks I am on a mobile phone so I only get a 4 inch display window with no option to toggle to the larger tablet view. Meanwhile on the other Chromebook which is running an Intel Chipset, ChromeOS thinks it’s a tablet so Steam only loads games that are for Android tablets. We ended up choosing the game Among Us as the only thing we could both get running on the devices, not a cloud game at all, and got so frustrated over the lack of mouse support in the game that we ended up giving up. Overall, Android apps not recognizing the ChromeOS laptop form factor has been a serious problem for ChromeOS for a while now. Clearly this device is not meant to be a laptop to game on. In the end I would not recommend this for your primary computer, but if you are looking for what I would describe as a throw-away laptop for casual web browsing it’s not a bad option. I decided rather than purposely dropping it off my desk I would do something much better: I let my brother-in-law borrow this laptop for a few weeks. He has three children under 13 who are pretty rough on technology. I’m curious how this thing will hold up on the other end of this experiment.

Happy With My Chromebook
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS Chromebook CM1402 14" Laptop with MediaTek Kompanio 520 processor and 4 GB of memory is an interesting choice for me. I am 65 years old, and I have never used nor owned a "Chromebook" of any brand. Additionally, I have no history nor knowledge of how to work with a Chrome operating system. So, I ordered this ASUS because I wanted to see how a reasonably-priced, good- sized but lightweight laptop for reading and viewing that uses Android apps would work and handle. I was worried about getting started and setting up the machine. I guess, if you know how to operate either Windows or Apple systems, using the Chrome OS is somewhat intuitive, too. Physically, this is a lightweight, 14"-inch sized laptop that is sturdy enough to take you through your everyday basic paces that you would wish to pursue-internet, checking email, the syncing to my Samsung android cell phone and receipt of notifications, etc. There is a manual camera that operates with a sliding button at the top of the top side, although i have not used that yet. What I really do like is that this is an inexpensive choice to take when either on the run or traveling. If lost or damaged, the investment is not that much. Additionally, it is a much bigger screen when using Android apps than looking at my phone. Remember, 65-year-old eyes, even with correction, are not what they used to be. It is much more enjoyable to watch a movie on whatever streaming service that you might have, read a book on a reading app, or just browse on the internet. I was also thrilled that all my Google stuff seamlessly rolled over here when using my Google account. I did look up that the processor model, Media Tek Kompanio 500, is a mid-grade processor that confirmed my opinion that it worked fine for the tasks I want to use this machine for, that I am not a gamer and thus, did not care that the graphics are entry-level. Where I can see a future issue is that it is only 4 GB of system memory that could affect how many apps could be open at one time and the multi-tasking ability. However, I do not have those kinds of expectations so I do not believe that I would be disappointed. If need be, I would try to add more memory. By the way, this unit also comes with a wired mouse and there are ports for HDMI, microphone, USB, etc.

Nice chromebook you got there, Asus.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Some say that if it hadn't been for the pandemic, chromebooks would have never become so popular. It was the perfect tool for home schooled children and teenagers. But unlike the pandemic, chromebooks have entered most classrooms, replacing paper with a digital media for the most part. It also allowed educators and parents to monitor their child's activity. But not all chromebooks are built the same. The fact that they use a common OS doesn't mean that they can run it and applications at adequate speed. The Hardware Asus has been manufacturing small form factor portable computers for a long time. They have achieved a very high level of sophistication when creating new devices. Asus has always been a strong contender to the throne of king of chromebooks. The CM1402 is a true gem as it offers a great bang for your bucks. The chromebook itself feels solid and tough. It comes with a type-c to wall power adapter to charge its surprisingly long lasting battery. The heart of this chromebook is a MediaTek Kompanio CPU. It's not really a classic CPU, more of a cluster of CPUs at different speeds (able to handle specific tasks as well). This design makes these types of CPUs much less power hungry than its competitors. But make no mistake, you aren't getting a high-end chip such as a Snapdragon. On the other hand, raw power is not what you really have in mind if you want to use a Chromebook. The majority of the tasks are more school or home office computers related which do not require extreme power. Yet, the Kompanio is performing great for all this. The CM1402 from Asus comes with enough RAM and storage for everyday use. It only comes with a limited amount of ports. A single USB-A and Type-C is just not enough for me. The keyboard is nothing to write home about, it's a sinple, functional keyboard. The screen is very bright, but very easy on the eyes after the initial shock. One thing I will point out though, is that Asus included a compact mouse to be used instead of the trackpad. It's not a great mouse, but when you're in a bind, it's good to have one. The Software ChromeOS is pre-installed and almost ready to use. It took two updates to get everything running smoothly, but once done, it was surprisingly fast. The usual suspects from Google's very own cloud based office suite are there. I really am trying hard to find something I don't like, but it's not going well. The Verdict Asus has surprised me with the CM1402 Chromebook. Be it inside or outside, it's a very well balanced machine, capable of delivering enough power for tasks at home, at school or college or anywhere else you need to type something up. I did try a couple of casual games and they too, ran very nicely. At this price, you get a huge bang for your buck. Rock solid Chromebook.
