I’ve been using the ASUS Chromebook Plus CX3402CV for about a week now, and I’ve got to say—I’m really impressed with what this Chromebook offers for the price. Right off the bat, the Rock Grey color gives it a premium, understated look. It’s sleek, modern, and feels surprisingly solid in hand for something this lightweight and portable. It definitely doesn’t feel cheap. Performance-wise, this thing is snappy. The Intel Core i5 processor and 8GB of RAM make everyday tasks a breeze. I’ve had tons of tabs open, running Google Docs, YouTube, and messaging apps at the same time without any lag. The 128GB SSD helps keep everything quick too—boot times are near-instant, and the system stays responsive no matter what I throw at it. ChromeOS runs like a dream on this machine. It’s clean, simple, and super fluid. If you’re already in the Google ecosystem, this thing just works. Apps from the Play Store install fast, updates are seamless, and there’s no bloat or clutter to deal with. The 14-inch Full HD touchscreen is another highlight. It’s bright, crisp, and super responsive—great for compatible Android games or just navigating with taps and swipes. I’ve even done a bit of light photo editing on it. It’s not a tablet replacement, but it definitely adds versatility. Battery life has also been great. I’ve been getting through full workdays easily—usually around 10+ hours with regular use. Whether I’m working, streaming, or just browsing, I don’t find myself hunting for a charger often. Now, for the one downside: there’s no backlit keyboard. Not a dealbreaker for me, but something to keep in mind if you tend to work in low light. The typing experience itself is good—keys feel solid—but yeah, that backlight would’ve made it feel a bit more premium. Conclusion: Overall, the ASUS Chromebook Plus CX3402CV punches way above its weight. It looks good, feels great to use, and handles everyday computing with zero fuss. If you’re looking for a reliable, fast Chromebook with a touchscreen and solid battery life, this one’s easy to recommend—just be aware of the non-backlit keyboard.

First time to try Asus. Usually use HP. This has been a great experience. This Chromebook was up and running in a matter of minutes. Only thing I miss is the backlit keyboard.

I’ve owned a few Chromebooks. The first I ever bought was for my kid in middle school. It was an ASUS too and I found it to be good value but never really thought of them as a serious laptop for work. The ASUS Chromebook Plus with Intel i5 has changed my view. It looks like a serious business laptop - in dark greys and using Gemini on it (bonus 12 months of Gemini Advanced is included!) I am sold that a Chromebook can be used for serious tasks. First - in the box. ASUS Chromebook CX34 14” USB C Power Adapter Out of the box, the immediate observation is the ASUS CX34 looks premium. It feels solid and well made. There’s also no gloss surfaces. Even the touch screen is matte - so no fingerprint marks. Showing it to a friend, their immediate comment was “it looks like a real laptop”, which if you have used Chromebooks before you understand. You get plenty of ports (2x USB C/Display Port Combo, 1 Left/1 Right), 2 x USB A (both on the right) a headphone jack, and a full side HDMI port. The full size HDMI is a nice surprise given the USB C Display Port support - but nice given in a meeting or conference room, you’re more likely to find a HDMI cable these days. There’s also a camera, with an included privacy on/off shield (clearly marked orange when closed). There’s no microSD or SD card slot - so there’s no ability to expand the memory outside of a USB drive. More on that later. Setup was easy, power on - sign into WiFi and connect your Google account. There was a quick software update and then I was able to hit the play store. I installed Office 365 (needed for work) and then to put the ASUS CX34 through same gaming paces, Roblox and StarDew Valley. I also used Google Docs (for personal, like writing the draft of this review) and started to play with Gemini. Interesting, Zoom and Acrobat and Apple Music was preinstalled. The good news - this laptop is GREAT for productivity and light gaming. The only thing I will note on gaming is while most Android games are a small footprint, the absence of a microSD expansion may bothersome (it’s not a deal breaker, just don’t fill it with games!). That said, for gaming and work - this is where you get the benefit of a proper Intel i5 processor. The ASUS CX34 is the fastest Chromebook I have ever used as a result. The sound is good, enough for light games and more than good enough for a zoom calls (although I paired my Pixel Buds to the Bluetooth). The 14” screen is great clear and bright, and the touchpad responsive but it did seem to pick up accidental touches, more of a Chrome OS issue than ASUS. What stands out is that the CX34 has a real touchscreen - I wish it could open to a tablet form factor, but that said, the touchscreen is responsive and found myself using it more than I expected. Again, I wish the CX34 could be used like a tablet, but it only opens maximum flat. I also let my kid play Roblox and there were no complaints, except for when I had to pry the ASUS CX34 back from him haha! The downside, if there is one, and the reason I am giving it 4 stars is while the CX34 runs whisper quiet it does get warm on your lap on the right side - I am guessing this is where the i5 CPU is located. It’s not hot, but warm enough that I was surprised. The only last thing to think about is battery life. I used the CX34 all Memorial Day weekend, including impromptu. Despite a “real” processor, I was able to use all day from a full charge. This was not doing a day of Zoom calls, more browsing, videos, music and games while on WiFi. So more like medium use with frequent breaks. I am keen to see how the CX34 stacks up on a work day. Overall, love the ASUS CX34. I plan to use it every day. If you’re after a Chromebook that is for “grown ups” that is perfect for business and occasional gaming. The Intel i5 make the ASUS CX34 a great choice. If it was able to go full tablet mode, I’d give it a 5/5.

I should have looked into the chrome os more. This is a glorified tablet with a keyboard. It only runs mobile apps and Web apps. If you need something that runs on Windows it won't do that. I had issues with a lot of apps and experience devices not working correctly
