    Desktop Gem

Asus - Desktop - Intel Core i5 - 8GB Memory - 1TB Hard Drive - Gray is a superb value priced desktop unit. So pleased with the speed of the unit. It replaced my much more HP desktop and has dramatically improved my user experience on the WWW.

    DOA Replaced-All Good Now!

Some more water has passed under the bridge since I wrote the "No Fluke - Dead on Arrival" review. Best Buy was gracious in allowing me to exchange the DOA PC I received when I returned the unit to the store. Thankfully, there was one in stock and upon request, the associates opened the replacement PC in-store to check that it was bootable. The unit ran the initial boot cycle without any hitches. I took the unit home and set it up. It has been running flawlessly since 3/30/16. The specs are very good for the price and for what my kids use this PC for, the Intel Core i5; 8 gigs DDR 4 memory; 1 terabyte hard drive; 2 USB 3.1 ports; 2 USB 3.0 ports; very good sound card; among others, are well worth the price of asking. The unit is very quiet, and boots up fairly quickly even without a Solid State Drive, which I intend adding in due course. So far, so good. ASUS should still get to the bottom of what is causing some of the units to malfunction out of the box. This working unit deserves a full 5 stars!

    Amazing PC!

This a really good PC! So far, I've updated it with a GTX 970, a SSD, more RAM and a new PSU. It's running better than ever. I'm really happy with the purchase of this PC. I've been using it for gaming, 3d design and VR development. I've tested it with an Oculus Rift and it runs flawlessly. Even without the updates, the PC already had a good performance.

    Great PC for basic functions

I bought this PC to perform some basic computer functions such as internet browsing, Microsoft Office, emailing and entry level photo edits. The PC is great for all of the above functions with no delays in processing any of my requests. I can also run a virus scan and still use the PC with only a slight delay in response time from other applications. Overall I'm very pleased with this purchace.

    GREAT FOR OFFICE WORK

I been having a blast with this computer, the updates are really easy to do and the ASUS interface program is really easy to control. Also I forgot to read the manual but now a days nobody really read does but this computer even has WiFi integrated it kinda feels like a laptop. The only thing that bothers me is that the audio notice keeps pop-ping out saying I plug a audio device when there is nothing plug other than that this was a great purchase.

Good computer at a good price

I purchased this computer as a replacement for my aging Dell Dimension 8400. While this unit is not an ultimate gaming rig, or a server, it does perform all the tasks that I need it to do. Its CPU is fast enough to play games, it has enough memory to render video streams without excessive buffering, and has HDMI output so I can connect it to my HD TV. The built in WiFi and bluetooth work well, with no lagging that I have noticed. The Hard drive is a 1TB unit, so I have no worries about storage space. The one concern I have about this unit is lack of expansion slots. It has 1 PCI-e16 slot and one PCI-e1 slot and thats it, no regular PCI slots at all, but so far I haven't needed to add any peripherals. All in all, I give it a thumbs up!

    Nice box for the money

I needed to replace my 7 year old desktop computer. This ASUS was displayed on an encap, and at under $500 was just what I was looking for - latest generation i5 processor, 8GB of RAM and a 1 TB hard drive. Windows 10 has presented no problems and is much better than the Windows 8/8.1 I have on a laptop. Computer came with both Ethernet and WiFi capability, blue tooth and more. Someday I may use those features :) I just signed up to renew the Office 365 trial for the year. Only problem was the computer came with McAfee trial, but apparently wasn't turned on at startup. The Microsoft Defender firewall was also off and I got hacked 2 weeks after initial boot up. Much of Windows 10 was turned off - I found this out because my HP printer was suddenly "off line". I called HP for support and then paid them to "fix" the stuff turned off and get rid of whatever trojan/worm/virus was installed, and they also installed 360 Total virus software (this was free). Had planned to install AVG free virus software after the McAfee trial was over, but again, it never started. Overall I'm very satisfied with this ASUS computer. It's fast and quiet.

    So far so good!

Old HP was chokingly slow. Call my computer guru for suggestions for a new one and all he would recommend was at least an i5 processor and not an H.P. The video is much clearer and brighter than the H.P. and audio sounds much crisper with more definition. The computer is loaded with tracking spyware of over 250 types so it is imperative to have it cleaned right away. There is a warranty seal on the case which voids warranty if you want to add memory or upgrade so make sure you you are happy as is. Only problem so far is computer would lock up in sleep mode with default settings. Cleared up when I changed settings. So far I am happy and found it a good value at $549.00.

    Good mid-level PC

    |
    Posted .

A nice PC, pleasure to use, that doesn't come with any garbage bloatware. (Depending on your feelings about McAfee). USB ports front and back, quite usable keyboard & mouse. I did replace the somewhat slow HD with a SSD and now it really smokes. The built in Intel 530 video can handle all regular tasks, but is quite the barely mid-tier video card, so you won't be running the newest games full bore on it but older stuff does just fine.

    Great entry level gaming computer

Right out of the box it loaded up quick but had to wait at least 45 minutes for all the updates before I can actually use it. Its fast and smooth and very quiet. It doesn't come loaded with any programs not even to watch dvd movies had to load my own copy of cyberlink. I have 2 issues, one is that sticker on the back if you open the case to uprade it will void the warranty. The other is it only comes with one pci-16 slot for a video card and that's it besides one more slot for memory. No room for upgrading.

    A good One

This is a very good product in terms of Bluetooth, Wireless, and HDMI completeness. It's also very user friendly. However, I dislike it when it comes to online movie playing. Whenever I pause the movie for awhile, it will never continue playing when I click the Play button again. It even does not have a sound. I have to shut down the CPU and turn it on again, then everything will be back to normal. I don't know if this is because of a setting or something, I just feel annoyed with the playback error.

This machine has a lot of power for the price. As a gamer, I was concerned that an i5 would not have enough to do what I wanted it to do, but no worries here!

    New Computer

This computer is great for the price. Motherboard, Processor, and Ram that already comes with it is pretty nice. I got this computer as a upgrade from my old tower, threw in a Nvidia Geforce GTX 970 and this outperforms all the other computers that i have ever had. I game, and I DO NOT lag at all while playing. Great computer for a great price. If your a gamer, you should definitely check this computer out.

    Good basic computer

This computer is good for our very basic needs - internet, word, excel. The first one we purchased had to be returned as there was a problem with Windows 10, but Best Buy exchanged it and everything has been fine since then. We had a very old computer, so we are thrilled with the speed of this one.

The CD tray is more professional and better than the flimsy trays of other famous computers. The CD usage is not going away for me since I play music while I am working on the computer. The setting up papers were not user friendly - seemed half-done and not clear. The functions of Window 10 are better yet sometimes a frustrating learning curve. One should buy a larger monitor with this computer as well. Overall, a good computer and easy to use.

    We're happy with this choice

My main criteria for selecting this computer was memory size and processor. Plus, I've been happy with Asus in the past. I was also looking for a full size chasis. I wasn't planning to change anything from what comes out of the box, but in the past I've had to swap out components in smaller boxes and wished for the extra space, so no more tiny boxes for me wihtout a good reason. On the whole, this computer does what you'd expect from it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy the same unit again. My only complaint, and this is very minor, is that the button on the front is if anything too accessible. If I had toddlers in the house (or others attracted to big beautiful buttons), I'd be concerned they'd want to play with it.
