If you're looking for a PC to game on, look elsewhere. If you're looking for something moderately quick at basic tasks like browsing the web and watching some YouTube or Netflix, this could be a pretty good for you. I've been building computers for probably close to 30 years now, but I'll occasionally work with a prebuilt either out of curiosity or it's someone else's. Overall, I'm not disappointed in this machine as far as parts and build quality goes. It's fairly bare bones in it's feature set but it's not meant to be a hugely expensive gaming rig so I can understand that. The biggest limiter I can see is the 8GB of RAM but that's a fairly easy upgrade if you're finding it to be an issue (and a pretty inexpensive one). But for what this is made to do, I think it's spec'd well enough. You'll be able to browse the web and watch some YouTube or Netflix just fine. Doing school work or office type work should be great as well. And if you really want to game a little bit, you always have cloud gaming options. The integrated Intel graphics should be able to support some older games at lower settings as well. Setup was pretty simple. Same as usual for Windows 11. Enter some information and it'll do the rest. ASUS jumps in and prompts for some registration information but it's skippable if you'd rather not. The machine is pretty clean of bloat-ware. ASUS includes their basic MyASUS app that does things like tweaking some performance things as well as transferring information from another ASUS machine. Pretty basic stuff. There's also a business manager app included that does things like customize a logo for the machine and turn on some security related encryption things. If you're buying a bunch of these for the office, it'll probably come in handy. There's a bunch of ASUS processes running but they all appear to be fairly light weight. You can probably safely disable most of them too. That's about it for bloatware. Everything else is included with Windows 11 and most of it is still uninstallable pretty easily. I did notice an issue with the HDMI output which may stump some people who only have an HDMI monitor. I couldn't get it to output via HDMI at all. Luckily, my monitor also supports DisplayPort so I just used that but if you don't have that luxury, you may need an adapter to get a display at all. Performance works good for a lower spec'd machine. I didn't notice much in the way of sluggishness doing things like web browsing, video/movie watching and office/school work stuff. I even tried out a game on xcloud and it worked as well as I'd expect xcloud to work. The CPU in this machine is very capable of video decoding so it didn't have many troubles. Build quality seems fine. There's no window on this machine so there's no need for the parts inside to be pretty. It's just the basic green stuff. There's not much going on inside so it's fairly clean looking. One weird choice I found was the small strip of plastic protection over a really small line of glossy plastic that was tucked under the one faceplate in front. I had to take the whole front panel off to get that piece of plastic out without tearing it. It's a really small thing and one of those plastics that could probably have stayed on there for years without some people noticing, but I just found it odd that it was pretty much impossible to remove without tearing it or removing the front panel entirely. I would have loved to see a couple of USB-C inputs on here in this day and age. There's plenty of USB for most things. 2 USB 2.x's and 2 USB 3.x's on the back and then the same up front. Just would have been nice to have some USB-C in the mix. There's even old-school PS2 inputs for a keyboard and mouse if you happen to have one of those dinosaurs lying around somewhere. I assume that's for compatibility with business stuff since this is more focused on business usage. Just doesn't feel super new. Aside from the low amount of RAM, the questionable plastic cover placement, and my inability to get an image over HDMI even after fiddling with the BIOS, this machine is alright. None of those are dealbreakers for me and everything else works great. If those things sound like dealbreakers for you, you might want to keep browsing otherwise you could do worse than this machine.

The ASUS Expertcenter D500 desktop is a perfect business desktop for you home office or actual office. My wife runs her own consulting firm and one of desktops recently bit the dust so she was on need for a replacenr tower. Since I have experience with ASUS via my ASUS ROG products I was quick to recommend this professional looking tower. Specs wise this machine is no slouch when it comes to performance. It has the 13th gen Intel i5 13400 processor which has 6 cores. It has 8 gb of high bandwidth RAM which can be easily upgraded in order to have things run smoother. The computer has a 512gb SSD drive which is more than adequate since my wife is mainly saving to the cloud. You can connect your monitor via HDMI, DisplayPort or VGA. The 6 USB ports are more that adequate for any peripherals you may have. The computer has the ability to connect to the internet via a wireless AC router as well as via a gigabit LAN connection. In my wife's use everything is hardwired but is great to have the ability to connect to a hotspot in case of an internet outage. The computer also includes bluetooth 5.0 connectivity. It is great that Windows 11 home is included however we had to upgrade to Windows 11 pro for my wife's office usage. Overall for basic office usage that includes daily Microsoft Teams meetings or Zoom calls this desktop should be more than adequate. As I did you may want to upgrade the ram to at least 16 gb but all in all this is a solid desktop. I would recommend this desktop for home or office use without hesitation

A Very Nice Computer Package From ASUS

An ASUS D500TEC-i5512 PC was received yesterday at no charge for testing and evaluation, the subject of this review. I have never used or owned an ASUS computer before and was quite interested in having a chance to use and evaluate one. After unboxing the unit, assembling it and connecting a computer monitor I owned previously, I turned on the ASUS computer and was pleased to find no third party bloatware was installed. However, the Microsoft operating system required updating and that took a bit of time to complete. I also wanted to duplicate settings from another desktop computer and that also took some time. I now have the D550TEC up and running and it is wicked fast on start up! Having no bloatware and limited personal data, documents, photos, software programs, etc. allows the ASUS computer to run at optimal speeds. The ASUS D500TEC comes with a 2 year warranty along with a ASUS corded keyboard and mouse. A monitor is not included in the package. The computer has many more ports than expected including 2 HDMI, 4 USB, headphone and microphone jacks, a video monitor jack, USB ports for the keyboard and mouse, is equipped with a 500GB drive and is powered by Intel's Core I5 CPU. This is a well designed and nicely built computer that is excellent at its price point.

A mixed bag of performace and limitations

The ASUS D500TEC-I5512 Desktop PC presents a compelling mix of performance and design but falls short in some crucial aspects that may leave potential buyers with mixed feelings. Performance-wise, the D500TEC-I5512 impresses with its Intel® Core™ i5-13400 Processor 2.5GHz (20M Cache, up to 4.6GHz, 10 cores). It provides a smooth and responsive computing experience and the system handles everyday tasks with ease. However, the desktop's limitations become apparent when it comes to connectivity options. The presence of only one HDMI port may be a significant drawback for users who require multiple display setups or have peripherals that rely on HDMI connections. Additionally, the absence of USB-C ports is a notable disappointment in an age where USB-C has become a standard for fast data transfer and versatile connectivity. The front ports include 2 USB 2.0 type A and 2 USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type A. The rear ports include 1 HDMI 1.4, VGA, another 2 USB 2.0 and 2 USB 3.2. One of the most concerning drawbacks is the inability to upgrade this PC. With technology evolving rapidly, the inability to upgrade components like the processor, graphics card, or storage may limit the longevity of the system. Users who plan to future-proof their desktop setup may find this aspect particularly frustrating. Although, this seems to be a great computer if you are just going to use it for office and/school work. In conclusion, the ASUS D500TEC-I5512 Desktop PC is a competent performer for everyday tasks but falls short in terms of connectivity and upgradability. The single HDMI port and the absence of USB-C ports may be deal-breakers for some users, and the lack of upgrade options raises concerns about the system's long-term viability. If your computing needs align with its current specifications, the D500TEC-I5512 may be a suitable choice. However, for those looking for a more versatile and future-proof desktop, other options on the market may be worth considering.

I think this makes a great platform for customizing your PC and having the power you need for gaming or video editing. Just in the base set-up, the specs are very similar to laptops that I've had in the past with similarly spec'ed processors and 8GB of RAM. What you don't see in comparing such specs is the inherent difference between laptop and desktop components. While this has similar specs to my old laptop that cost about $1k more, this is a far more capable machine. My laptop would struggle with video editing to the point that the audio would end up being offset by several seconds once the final product rendered. Here, rendering is quick and there has never been an issue. I've also installed a couple of games (most notably, Magic Arena which is surprisingly/oddly demanding for a card game...). This tower is able to run it without issue. If you want a platform for upgrading, I believe this can go up to 64GB of RAM, so you can set it up to take whatever you want to throw at it. You want a media PC? You can add a Bluray drive. Want to power 6 monitors? You've got two plugs in the back, but toss in a video card and go nuts. :)

Out with the old, in with the new

The Asus ExpertCenter D500 computer tower is a viable option for business owners looking to upgrade their hardware and be able to keep up with software compatability demands. Great for book keeping, some P.O.S. software, store proprietary software, or general browsing. With a media drive, sd reader, and several usb ports, it makes it easy to install your older non digital download software and keep your business flowing. It does have space in the case to add a cd optical drive of you wanted. Out of the box, this is a very basic computer and is meant solely for business or commercial use. It has 8GB of DDR4 ram, but does run at 3200mhz. While it is not new DDR5 ram, it is at least running at older gamer spec rates, keeping cost down but providing enough to remain ahead of the curve in functionality. It does only have an integrated graphics card as well. Since it is for commercial use, it does not need a graphics card and the processor graphics are just fine. It uses integrated graphics powered by the Intel Core I5 13th generation processor. The I5 is actually a pretty decent spec'd chip, utilizing 10 cores, and boosting up to 4.7 ghz. It also has an SSD drive with a 512gb capacity so you can keep your saving and transfer speeds flowing. Everything else is pretty standard on the case. It has front IO which has 2 usb 3.2 ports, 2 usb 2.0 ports, a headphone and microphone jack, and a proprietary smart card reader, and also an sd card reader. The rear IO also has 2 usb 3.2 ports and 2 more usb 2.0 ports. It has an hdmi out for display, and has the old keyboard and mouse circular p/s 2 ports. The keyboard and mouse are also very basic and don't include a lot of features. The keys do press well and is comfortable to type with. Every computer is built with a purpose, and if you know what this is built for, it is a pretty good little computer for handling business needs. I do recommend again for business looking to upgrade their old outdated hardware on a budget price. I think adding a cd optical drive would have been a better choice though for a computer like this.

Works Good, Windows Pro is missing

So, first thing, what’s in the box, the computer, a mouse, a keyboard, and a power cord. You’ll need a monitor to complete the setup and if you’re like me a much better mouse and keyboard. Now, if you are buying this computer I probably don’t need to tell you this but I will anyway, don’t try to use a 4k gaming monitor with this and then play graphic intense games, no matter how much you scale down the graphics it will crash the game from what I found. A nice 1080 monitor which is more than good enough for general use and much more in the realm of what you will probably look at allows your kids to play some games on it. The right monitor with the right computer can fix a multitude of problems. I am trying to figure out a little bit who this computer is for, if you look for a basic but repairable and upgradable PC this is good device. It will work for all your daily needs and most apps until you start getting into advanced stuff. I ran 2D CAD, MathCAD, anaconda, mySQL, visual studio community and other productivity apps and it worked great, now when the time comes to upgrade you’ll have to be careful, a decent low power graphics card could turn this into a budget gaming computer maybe, but really you’ll need to spring for a new power supply if you want to upgrade it more than a little. The connectivity options are good, I love that it has a movable Wi-Fi antenna as that can be a bit of an issue for me with desktops and where I put them; it also has Bluetooth built in which is awesome. However, there is no USB C which seems a little in the past at this point. It seems to be more of a work computer and the description describes it as that, however, Windows Pro isn’t installed on it. So maybe a small business where you have no interest in the pro features like remote desktop and windows sandbox being my favorite differences. Overall, the computer works great and not too much bloat is installed on it, with its main strengths being that it is repairable and semi upgradable into the future.
