Nice design, appearance and functionality

We have an existing mesh router system from another manufacturer, but were intrigued to try the Lyra Voice since it works with other router brands. Add in the Bluetooth stereo speakers and built-in Amazon Alexa and one gets some great features in a aesthetically pleasing design.
Set-up was fairly straight forward with the Lyra Voice guiding one through the initial steps and then proceeding with adding the Asus Router app on my iPhone to complete the process. Once I had completed entering my existing router password the Lyra Voice seemed to connect easily. I then proceeded to link to my Amazon account through the Asus Router app with no issues.
It appears though that by using the Lyra Voice with another brand mesh router that we are missing out on a couple features such as parental controls and the AiProtection Pro security suite powered by Trend Micro.
The appearance of the Lyra Voice is quite pleasing compared to many other routers. It is long in shape like many Bluetooth speakers with a fabric, black/gray exterior. I really do like the appearance of this smart voice router compared to the typical router with multiple antennas visible. There are four buttons on top for volume, muting the mic and triggering Alexa. The middle LED strip shows various colors for differing functions such as booting up, setup, and linking to Amazon.
The Asus Router app has other functionality for listing devices, setting parental controls, easy wi-fi sharing, network traffic, Smart Home services and other various utility tools.
The stereo speakers are more than adequate for most listening needs in a Bluetooth speaker of this size. We had no problems utilizing Spotify and controlling music play via voice commands to Alexa.
The Lyra Voice has three wireless bands (2.4ghz, 5ghz-1 and 5ghz-2) and supports up to a maximum speed of 867Mbps with 7 high performance antennas.
For those wanting to extend current routers, create a whole-home mesh wi-fi router or add in the functionality of a Bluetooth speaker the Lyra Voice is a well designed product that meets all of these needs.

This is a very cool product that has an abundance of features all wrapped up into what appears to be a bluetooth speaker! First of all, this has and Amazon Alexa device built right in. If you walk into the room and simply say "Alexa" the device lights up and responds. This speaker also functions as a range extender. Speed from this device were very fast and consistent. It also has two ethernet plugs on the back, one to use if you want to use the device as a router, and the other to use if you want to connect a device to the speaker while using it as a range extender. I connected a game system to it and played online without any issue. The audio quality played from the speaker is pretty good, but not the best bluetooth audio performance I have ever heard. My only aggravation with this device is that the light on the front will occasionally flash yellow. Not exactly sure what that means, as the instructions did not give a breakdown for the meaning of a flashing yellow light. It can be aggravating in a dark room at night when your trying to sleep. It only does this occasionally so it may have something to do with the internet connection. There is also and app you can download from the app store that allows you to fine tune the settings of this device. All in all, it is a nice looking speaker that functions for several devices all in one. I really enjoy using it and you will too!

All-in-one Router/Alexa/Spotify Solution!

First off, I think this is probably one of the more attractive routers out there - being that it is also a smart speaker, it has a better design than a typical router since it will most likely be out in the open.
I would almost classify it more as a smart speaker with a router built-in than the other way around since it is actually attractive enough to have in your living area.
However, as a router, it works well. Easy setup using the Asus Router app and was up and running within about 5 minutes. Coverage was good even without external antennas and it covered my 1300 square foot townhome without any weak signals.
As a speaker it was decent - I would put it slightly below the quality/volume/bass response of something like a UE Boom. Don't expect something thumpy but it does have good sound quality that you can listen to for hours.
As an Alexa it worked flawlessly being able to perform all the typical Amazon Alexa functions that you would expect.
Great product!!

The Review
——————
Its a bluetooth speaker, its a mesh router, it’s an Alexa device! Its like the all in one thing & I think it does most of the “all in one” functionalities really well.
LOOKS-
It looks like a bluetooth speaker and not like a router. Its got a blue light in the center which turns on when you say Alexa. The router/speaker has volume buttons on the front and also a mute button. The power button is behind and it also has 1 ethernet port.
SETUP -
Its a very straight forward setup, download the Asus APP on App Store (Apple & Playstore) and you should just follow the onscreen instructions to Setup the router. It will also ask you to connect to an amazon account so that you can use it with Alexa.
The router can be setup as:
1. A standalone router
2. As a Ai-Mesh Router to work with other Ai-Mesh routers
3. As a repeater router
The app also has advanced mode for other functions such as parental control , AiProtection etc
USAGE -
I setup the router as a standalone and as a Ai-Mesh Router. I already have a RT-68U router that I own and its better than most routers in its range in the market, its a few years old but it still performs like a champ. I got this one to go hand in hand as a Ai-Mesh router.
In the initial setup, I set this router as a standalone because I wanted to compare the performance vs my RT-68U (AC-1900) and I have to say that previously wherever I used to get weak signals, I got much better signal with this router. I have a 100/100 connection and I was about to get around that speed with this router which made me think that I really did not need a need for this router to be connected in a Mesh mode. But since I got it anyways, It would serve as a bluetooth/Alexa device and as a router.
The router also has a ethernet port so that you can connect your desktop, So I could listen to music and be connected to the internet wired or wirelessly.
I also setup the router as a Ai-Mesh and I could see an improvement in the speed. Although I think this thing could cover my 3000sqft house adequately.

This is a new class of tri band wireless routers.
It has Bluetooth speakers and Alexa built in.
The device is 20 inches long so plan accordingly with respect to where you want to place it.
You can expand it with up to three Wi-Fi mesh routers from ASUS.
For a single family ranch style home up to 2500 sf, condo or apartment, the device alone should suffice.
I have an ASUS router that has served me well. And know several other people who like their ASUS routers.
ASUS wants to be an innovative leader in wireless routers that’s for sure.
Don’t think you can go wrong with this one.

A strong router with bonus features

I have used a number of Asus products over the years. Every one of them has been a top quality reliable product. I expect nothing less from this Asus Lyra Voice router.
For my needs, I was more interested in using this in repeater mode. I already have a strong router on my main floor but wanted to use this in my bedroom. This is a fair distance (approximately 45 feet) from my router.
Setting up – The instructions that come with the Lyra Voice router are straight forward and easy to follow. Just in case anyone does not understand the SSID reference, this is the name you use on your wireless network. If you are using this as your main router access point, you may need a 4 or 8 port switch as well. There is only one LAN port on this router. Most routers have 4. Of course, this only matters if you are connecting devices via Ethernet cable. You must download the router app. The router showed up for me as ASUS_50_AMAPS. You select the option for setting up a new network. Repeater mode in my case, and pick a location. It was very simple to follow. The app has a lot of features.
Alexa - I then set up the Alexa and connected to my Amazon account. Using Alexa I connected it to my Fire TV and now I can control the TV with my voice. Very cool! Now we want to get some lights that are controlled by Alexa also. Picking the right phrases for Alexa - that is a work in process.
Speaker – the sound is OK but not amazing. It does convert the DTS signal which is a bonus. Each speaker is open on the end to allow for more bass. But I do not think anyone is buying this for the speaker. So I consider it a bonus.
Conclusion – Asus has another winner. It is a router, Alexa device and speaker all in one very nice package. If you are looking for a router, why not get an Alexa device and decent speaker as a bonus. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

This device comes well packaged and is heavy for the size. This is not an issue and shows the quality of the product. You can use it as a stand alone router, meshed with other ASUS routers or as an extender with any router. I set it up as an extender with an existing mesh system by another brand. Connection was simple and I have had no issues over several days. The Alexa functionality really makes this router stand apart. I can use it to speak commands to control my home security system and thermostat. It picks up voice commands really well and the speakers sound excellent playing music. It looks more like a stylish portable speaker than a wireless router.

Stabilize Wifi + ALEXA w/Lyra Voice Tri-Band Mesh

My initial intention was to install just the ASUS – LYRA VOICE AC2200 Tri-Band Mesh Wi-Fi Router to replace a dated router as an upgrade to stabilize wi-fi coverage in my home.
Since pressed for time, though ALEXA is a unique feature of the LYRA VOICE Router, I intended to activate the capability at a later time.
Starting with the installation of the LYRA VOICE, if you don’t want to follow an online manual, be certain to schedule your calls to ASUS TECH SUPPORT during their available hours.
Since they are not 24/7, avoid frustration and be sure to time your calls accordingly. Also, be sure to pay particular attention to their shorter weekend hours.
Thankfully, with my hectic schedule, set up was made simple with a phone call to TECH SUPPORT, especially since the Quick Start instructions have some points of ambiguity that I feared would lead me to dead ends and late hours, trying to back track bad moves.
ASUS TECH SUPPORT was so competent and personable in walking me through installation of passwords for the TRI BAND set up for 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz that I decided to allow the TECH to optimize my call.
I was encouraged to download the AMAZON ALEXA APP to immediately explore what I had intended to save for later.
All of my wi-fi capable devices --- my flat screens, home security, tablets, etc --- in the house quickly appeared at the ALEXA APP control center on my Android phone, a Galaxy S7.
Voila, I now have the hub of my SMART HOME installed.
The ALEXA APP networked my devices allowing me to request news media, forecasts, traffic updates and summon music then control volume, forward and replay for BOSE level audio; establish To Do Lists; search, purchase and track AMAZON orders, among other options that afford lots more room to grow.
I want but yet don’t have the smart doorbell, smart lights or smart thermostat; but, now I have a user friendly platform on my phone to work through the additions.
My non-ASUS RANGE EXTENDER (i.e. not proprietary to ASUS) easily integrated with the ASUS LYRA VOICE ROUTER; but, the higher logic would have been to start with the ASUS branded
‘Ai MESH Nodes’ to extend i.e. repeat the wi-fi signal throughout the house then also have access to the ALEXA VOICE enabled Nodes at every remote location in the home.
For now, the ALEXA LYRA VOICE Router is in a location where I spend most of my time.
Bottom-line, if you have large square footage, map out the location of your ALEXA enabled nodes then purchase accordingly.
Overall, the LYRA VOICE is a sophisticated but reasonably priced point of entry to a Smart Home network, especially because it’s compatible with most range extension platforms; but, as in my case, even without informed foresight, I have a system that provides uninterrupted wi-fi coverage indoors, soon to be expanded to outdoors.
Occurs to me that AMAZON ALEXA enabled nodes deepen our stream of consciousness lifestyle from thought to spoken word to action taken by ALEXA...until time to reboot. LoL!
BTW, TREND MICRO, a brand I have trusted on my personal and business cpu's promises encrypted security against malware as well as parental controls.

All-In-One Surprise

I was skeptical that the Asus Lyra Voice could truly do all that is advertised (router, wi-fi mesh extender/repeater, blue-tooth speaker, AND Alexa personal assistant). It was truly a surprise that Asus pulled this off. Not only did they pull it off, but they pulled it off and managed to make the whole thing look good while doing it!
The Asus Lyra Voice comes packaged in a rather flimsy sleeve that covers the actual box. Once you take the sleeve off, the packaging is above average. Included are the router/speaker combo, power cord, ethernet cable, and a pretty basic owner's manual/instructions.
Out of the box, the build feels quite nice with most of the unit wrapped in a black/grey speaker mesh in a sort of heathered color pattern. I feel like this gives the speaker a nice distinct look rather than solid black. What isn't covered in the mesh is very nicely molded plastic with a high quality feel. Nothing about the unit feels cheap. Additionally, there aren't a bunch of flashing lights that make you feel like you could pilot a 747. There is a very nice vertical LED light that reacts like your typical Alexa lights do.
Setup can be done several ways. Via the Asus router app, Asus Lyra app, or the routers web interface. I used the Asus router app and was up in approximately 5 minutes using the Asus as my primary router plugged directly into my cable modem. Coverage was better than my current Xfinity provided modem/router combo (no shocker there). Since this unit can also serve as a extender/repeater, I also tested using my Xfinity router as the primary and the Asus Lyra as the repeater. The app guides you through the process, but it is more complicated than if you are just using this as your primary router. I didn't experience any issues connecting or staying connected and was able to stream UHD, surf the web, and still have full usability on my phone so I'd say it's definitely doing it's job.
The bluetooth speaker is definitely a nice addition, although it isn't the best sound that I've had in bluetooth speakers. Granted, those standalone speakers easily cost around $100 more than this combo unit. The sound it puts out is also just as good if not better than some of the $100-200 range speakers out on the market today. Is it a Beats, Bose, or high end Sony? No. But it's still getting my vote simply because it is built into a freaking router AND includes Alexa which can connect to your Amazon account and reorder cat food on command!
In all, I think this is a really neat product. Who ever thought about combining a router, wifi-extender, Alexa, and bluetooth speaker!? AND, whoever thought that it would be done well enough to to actually succeed? Not me. But Asus has done it.
Pros:
*Price (for essentially 4 distinct products)
*Ease of setup
*Built-in wifi protections that update automatically
*Build and design.
Cons:
*No real cons. It doesn't knock each aspect out of the park, but it does each one well enough to be extremely useful as a all-in-one combo product which means it gets the five star rating from me--especially at the price point of around $210.

I placed this in my home office, and it took a few minutes to do the initial power up, after which time it told me which app to install (out loud via voice). I followed those instructions, and it was a cinch to get up and running. I would love to note that when I connected this router to my SmartTV there were no picture freezes, whereas with my previous router there seemed to be constant hiccups. I was very pleased with that alone. Also, it appeared that the app automatically set up the phone i installed the app on to connect to the Wireless system, thereby saving me the effort of typing the password twice on the same device. I am a long term Asus product fan, and have heard past friends recommending their products dating back to the mid 1990s.

Setup was very easy since you can do it via voice commands. The coverage was adequate for my home, this device worked in my garage. The sound quality of the speaker could have been better. This speaker would sound better in a small room, it didn't sound too good in my garage. The basic alexa functionality worked, but I couldn't get the drop-in feature to work. I only gave this 3 stars because it does multiple things, but it only does them ok, not excellent.
