I was hesitant to buy this because of the price, but I'm the type of person who if I'm buying technology I'm going to spend good money on a product that's top of the line. Which is why I had a hard time choosing the one that looked exactly the same, yet costed $199 (tax not included). I then decided to take my chances of choosing the one which was $149 after reading up on both products. The signal is impressively strong considering the signal is going through walls and electrical appliances such as the kitchen stove, fridge, and restroom. The set up is extremely fast if you skip out on putting security etc. Security setting is also fast, takes about 5 min. The product looks nicely built and definitely not cheap, which I expected after paying $149 for a router. Probably what I enjoy most about this product is the dual band. No more lag, and disconnects when streaming videos or playing video games when another family member gets on the Wi-Fi. I always connect everyone else to the 5g signal, separate from me on the 2.4 signal. As much as i would love being connected to the 5g, unfortunately my ps3 is not capable of connecting to it. Overall I enjoy this product.

I've been through all the other brands and this router, for my needs, is the best for the money.
Speeds and coverage are great on both the 2.4 and 5 gHz bands. Just be sure to update the firmware as soon as you get it up and running.
The multiple guest accounts, VPN, FTP access and remote apps are great. Hook up a hard drive, download the AiCloud app and you have your own private cloud.
This is my second ASUS wireless router and it didn't disappoint.

Other reviews get into the technical details of this router so I won't repeat them here. The router set up very easily. Up and running in 15 minutes. Didn't upgrade firmware or adjust any settings. I went totally "the router for dummies" route. Going on three months now with no issues and I've not had to reset it. Excellent reception throughout our smaller home of 1300sf. Runs full throttle at 80Mbs, the max supplied by my provider.

I have purchased over 20 of these for various clients and only one has had any problem, which was resolved by exchanging it at the store. It gives great signal strength, has good parental controls, provides VPN server capability, and has an easy to read summary page. While it's not the cheapest router (though also not the most expensive,) it's well worth the money as you won't have to be buying another router in six months.

A more expensive router, but worth the cost

After struggling through up and down performance with several more basic and inexpensive routers, I researched routers with higher performance. This router came up repeatedly in my research. I have not been disappointed. My speeds had previously been inconsistent at best. I enjoy streaming Netflix and Amazon Prime on my Wi-Fi enabled Blu-ray player. After too many instances of programs needing to "catch up" and buffer multiple times during shows and movies, I had had enough. This router has replaced those frustrations with nothing but satisfaction. The speeds have been good and consistent. My range has improved as well. Although in my situation, the range was not needed, in a larger home, the extra range would be welcomed. Finally, set up was a breeze. The only negative was the cost relative to the other alternatives. At $150, this router is in the upper range of router cost for personal use routers. Having said that, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this router to anyone in need of a new router.

I live in a 1,900 square foot home and this unit covers more than half of my home the only strange thing is the closer you are to the router the worse the signal but still provides WiFi. Its a little expensive but overall a good unit. I've had it in my home now for a few months & haven't had any issues no restarting or signal failure.

I have owned Linksys (Cisco) routers for years but after having some trouble connecting my home security camera DVR system I tried this ASUS router and it blew me away. It found the camera system immediately and set up the configuration automatically! Signal strength is great anywhere in the house. The interface is easy to follow if you want to view its settings. Will be using ASUS from now on.

This router is awesome. I've had this router now for a couple of months. It's extremely simple to set up and password protect, and I especially like the disk management feature which allows me to keep a USB drive plugged into it for extra network storage. I have several devices connected to it wirelessly at all times and the signal is rock solid. I would recommend this product.

Its a 4.5 rounded up to 5 because it took just a little longer to set up the initially but after I set it up the internet was blazing fast for each and every item I had in the household. I could also get some WiFi signal while was mowing the front and back yard. great for 2 and 3 story house and small yards. I put the router in the basement and it works in the shower 2 stories up. So far best router that I had and it was definitely a way better upgrade than the cable company's router that come with their internet modem. Will recommend to anybody looking for a faster connect.
P.S i though it would take like 15-30 min tops to install but probably took like an just a little less than 1 hour, but it is definitely worth it and it hasn't cut out on me yet..... that's about it and had it for about a couple of months now.

Had a d-link for a few years and worked great, until recently. It was restarting every hour and was having a hard time staying connected to my smart tv. So bought this one and havent had a problem since. It's awesome!!! I dont have any disconnecting problems what so ever. And it was very easy to setup which was nice. I would highly recommend this router to anyone.

This router was easy to setup and comes with tons of great features. I have a two-story home and my main CPU is in the bottom corner of the house, where my wifi is also located. I needed to reach the back corners of the 2nd story and this router does that with ease. It has powerful range and a great signal. Recommend this wifi router for anyone. It is a little pricey compared to the cheaper routers, but well worth it in my opinion.

I was needed to replace my current router. It was constantly cutting off the wifi signal throughout the house. When I purchased this router, it was like night and day. The speeds I started acheiving were 3x faster than the previous router(Motorola) and it doesn't drop connections no matter where I am in my house. Solid purchase for the price.

This product provides excellent coverage throughout my two-level home. Signal strength is stronger in some rooms than with my old router (DIR-655.) I've read some reviews stating that this router runs hot, but mine is no warmer than the DIR-655 it replaced; warm to the touch, but not hot by any means. I used the provided stand to install this on a desktop in vertical orientation. I am not currently using the USB ports as my printers are all networked and I use HD drives in docks on each machine.
I never felt that the DIR-655 was slow. Seemed fast enough for me, so I didn't bother with measurements. This router may be faster; just don't know and don't care. My main desire was to have better signal strength throughout the house, and this item is providing that. The blue LEDs are nice; the match everything else in my office that has LEDs, but the DIR-655 also had blue lights, and I have a switch right next to it with green lights.
Buy it. I like it. Glad I bought it.

It was really easy to setup. I found it had a dual mode (Router or AP), it was used as a AP to place wifi on the other side of the house. It was also used to maintain a guess account that only gave access to the internet and not the network. So I don't have to give out the main password.and also gives access to a network harddrive if needed.

I got this as an upgrade to an older router that did not seem to be working well. When I installed this new router, it did not connect very well and I had slow speeds. My first call to tech support helped. My second call made a world of difference - the tech support person had me make many changes in the setup. After that, it has worked excellently ever since, with good connections and comparatively high speeds.
