Ok, I've purchased two of these. One for my workplace that is a very big difficult building for not only wifi but also cellular service. There's something about the construction that makes it very difficult to receive these services here. The first one I bought was setup here. The range is the best I've ever had in many routers I've had to install here. Prior to this, the best ranged router I had was the Linksys WRT54GL. The Asus far exceeded the range there. In the beginning, we had to reset it a couple of times when it just kind of stopped. Now after 4-5 months of it, haven't had to reset it since.
I also installed one of these at a friends house over a month ago and he hasn't had to reset it once. He does have an issue in one room where the signal doesn't get in as good as others. It's definitely construction that is burdening the signal in there as other rooms much farther away have no issue.
The interface is new to me. It works and I can do the basic things but I think it's a little clunky compared to Linksys' that I'm more familiar with. The nice thing about this router though is being able to set up multiple networks off the same router whether they are 2.4 ghz or 5.0 ghz! It makes thing easier when you have guests using your network temporarily and keep your main network to yourself.
I highly recommend this router and especially for buildings that cause issues with such types of signals.

I opted to go with a dual band N router as opposed to the AC routers at this time because I still have a lot of older devices. I've read lots of reviews of AC routers that complain about the throughput of N or G, so I decided against an AC router.
I haven't turned the transmission power all of the way up (yet), but I do fin d myself loosing my connection in certain parts of my house. I'll trying turning it up all of the way to see if that fixes the problem. Otherwise, throughput is quite fast when closer to the base.
UI is very easy to use and the unit itself is sleek. I haven't noticed it being overly warm to the tough (as compared to my old DLink router);
but, that's probably due to the massive heat sink on it.

Bought this to replace an old outdated router. Easy to set up and worked right out of the box. I configured it and named each device that was connected so I know what/who it is in a list. I also set time limits so my teens aren't able to have internet access after 11pm!
Fast speeds and I haven't had to re-set or re-boot since I powered it up for the first time!
Love this router!

This is a great route if you have multiple bandwidth wants or needs and live in a bigger space. We always have signal now, no matter where we are in the house. It was relatively easy to set up as well.

This ASUS was easy to set up and performs great. But a few times a week it bumps one of my computers off line a couple of minutes after I get online. I just reconnect and it never has a problem after.

I've gotten NetGear/Belkin/Linksys wireless routers in the under $100 in the past and this Asus RT-N66R has at least TWICE the range of those. Those cheaper routers have all died within about 3 years of use and I've had to use wireless repeaters to get signal to other side of 3 story house. This Asus beats ALL my prev routers hands down. PLUS, the GUI admin interface is a like night & day compared to the others. Get it, you will love it.

I would consider myself a fairly advanced user, so with that, setup using this router was easy but could be overwhelming with all the features this router has. I did upgrade to the Merlin Build firmware. It isn't found on the ASUS website, but a quick Google search will bring it up. I do think it is quite a bit better than the stock firmware. When I upgraded, all my settings were still saved which was great. Merlin firmware is just like the ASUS firmware, looks the same, but with unlocked or hidden features not found in the stock firmware, and also it has less bugs and is open source and reviewed by others. I have a big home, and I had to only set the Power Output of the wireless antenna to 1mW and I'm able to cover the basement, base level and upstairs and my entire half acre with not a single problem. At the edge of my property, the signal strength on an iPhone was only 1 bar. When I left the power output to the stock level of 80mW, I could pick up my signal a whole block away! The Merlin FW enables 500mW, I just couldn't imagine how far that signal would reach, but for better security and happy neighbors, my ASUS router is happily transmitting at 1mW. With that, the heat this router produces is pretty bad. It typically runs around 50-55C! I'm considering getting a laptop cooler because I'm not happy with the heat this router produces at all; I want it to last and heat is a killer for electronics! I wish this router was made with a way to install a PC fan! Everything else about this router delivers. It streams Netflix to my Xbox 360 with full HD, My Xbox is also set to open on Xbox Live after opening all the required ports which was a breeze to configure, I'm able to access a network drive attached to the router and save important files and easily access them from anywhere on the intranet while using my iPhone and the VPN feature! I really do love this router, but my only complaint is the heat! For that, I'm giving it 4 stars because I don't expect it to last 5 years at this heat. This router would've been perfect with a way to install a fan!

I purchased this router to replace a Linksys that had been in service for many years. This Asus router solved a couple of issues I was having. First, with the old router the speed of my internet connection was being limited (max download was around 18-20mbps) and my service was supposed to be 50mbps. Once this router was installed this was solved and now download at +50mbps. Second, with the prior router I was using a wireless access point (wireless G connection) that required a range booster to be installed to provide coverage to entire house. I am now using the wireless N connection in the Asus router and the coverage is excellent in the entire house without any additional devices. The set up was quick and easy and has a good internal hardware firewall. The hardware firewall was also a feature that I would not purchase a router without! This router also has many options that can be customized easily for specific applications if needed, otherwise simply leave a default out of the box and it will be great for most applications. Have been running this router for over a month and have no issues with connection or performance. Very pleased with performance so far.
