Highly Recommend! Best Laptop I've Ever Used!

Highly Recommend! As a full-time freelance brand identity designer and graphic designer growing a boutique studio, I depend on speed, accurate colors, and the power to run multiple Adobe programs at one time. This laptop exceeded my expectations! It's definitely cut a couple hours off of my work time daily and made my workflows so much more enjoyable! The display makes me want to update my second screen to a ProArt now!
I was a little concerned of battery life from other reviews but I can say that having my second screen going, multiple Adobe programs running, multiple browser tabs open, and streaming music in the background, the battery has lasted around 4 hours at a time. Last night I was helping my husband with his business just using one browser tab and nothing else plugged in, 3 hours in and I was still at over 50% battery. I know other laptops offer a much longer life so that's the only reason I did 4 stars on that particular area but it's been perfect for my needs. I don't usually work remotely from somewhere I won't have electric access for more than 4-5 hours at a time. So, I've been very happy with this purchase! I keep forgetting about the dial but when I do remember it, it definitely helps speed up my workflow and I enjoy it very much! I didn't think I would use the Stylus or touchscreen much because I've never had those options but I use them constantly throughout the day, especially paired with the dial, man it just makes the process in some systems just zoom through it! Highly recommend this product, I'll be sticking with this Asus line in the future for sure!

Impressive Hardware, Frustrating User Experience

The ProArt Studiobook 16 leaves a strong first impression, with a gorgeous screen, solid build quality, a good build-in keyboard with pleasant backlighting, and the best trackpad I've ever used on a Windows laptop. CPU performance with the Intel i9-13980HX was similarly impressive, nearly halving the amount of time it would take to run unit tests for my current software project compared to my old laptop (a 2020 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G14 with Ryzen 9 4900HS). Graphical performance was similarly impressive for a 4070 laptop. At face value, this was the perfect machine for my workflow.
However, I noticed that interacting with the device was somewhat unresponsive. Scrolling through web pages in Edge wasn't as smooth as I'd expect. Unexpected cursor input delay would often occur in Blender. Dragging around certain windows (notably Edge) would present a consistent and notable hitch before becoming smooth. Such stutters seem common among ASUS devices with touch screens, and aren't an exclusive problem of this device, as I determined by trying demo versions of various ASUS devices at multiple stores. The stutter when dragging around an Edge window does not appear on non-ASUS devices I tried, and this seems indicative of a broader feeling of unresponsiveness when using the device. This device should not feel worse to use than my 3 year old ROG Zephyrus G14 that cost half as much money, yet it does.
Beyond this issue, I also experienced a few more significant problems. There was a chance that the device would freeze when booting up while connected to an external display (via Displayport, I didn't try HDMI). Some applications that were set to start upon boot (notably Discord and Edge) would sometimes have significant keyboard input lag, whether using an external keyboard or the built-in keyboard.
Because of the unresponsiveness of this device, I ended up returning it and purchasing a similarly priced Lenovo laptop elsewhere (a Lenovo Legion Pro 7i with RTX 4080). Despite the Lenovo having a slightly weaker CPU (an intel i9-13900HX), CPU performance was nearly identical between the two devices, which prompts me to question the point of the 13980HX in the Studiobook. More importantly, the Lenovo is extremely responsive compared to the Studiobook.
I would not recommend purchasing this device without looking at alternatives. Yes, there are things that only this device offers, namely a gorgeous screen and near-perfect trackpad paired with impressive performance. But the frustrations I experienced after a few weeks of using the device cancel out those benefits.

Pros:
1. Nice material
2. Good performance (once swap SSD)
3. Double SSD m.2 slot
4. Nice key press feeling
5. Excellent trackpad
6. Comes with bag and stylus pen
Cons:
1. No G-Sync (as mentioned in Q&A)
2. Screen has some light blue lines (probably due to touchscreen) out of a box. I compared to other products laptops, and this ProArt has the worst screen lines.
3. Touchscreen is not needed at all, or should be optional. It ruins the image quality. I wouldn't mind to pay the same money for non touch version.
4. Glitching and poor performance on the SSD that's inside by default. This requires additional SSD investment.
5. Keyboard is very close to the screen.
6. Battery doesn't last longer than 1 hour (charged at 80% to protect the lifespan).
Overall: Could be much better. Unfortunately not many laptops support 2 m.2 ssd slots (8Tb total). I am currently keeping it and going to decide if I should permanently keep until return date approaches. A lot of disappointment.

Locked Away from Perfection - HX, but no 'X'

Alright, let's start with the good:
- Excellent chassis rigidity; barely any flex on the keyboard deck, display/lid has zero play and can't be torqued, and feels excellent being held in one hand.
- Gorgeous display. Seriously, its OLED, 0.3ms response time, 120Hz, and ~475 nits with nearly perfect DCI-P3 coverage. I have a hard time going back even to Mini-LED after seeing this thing with HDR on.
- Performance is very respectable, as is noise levels even with max fans enabled via ProArt software. Cinebench had CPU pulling 155W or so and maxed out around 81c on the package, VERY impressive result for a chassis of its size and no vapor chamber. GPU, after OC, was pulling 120-130W in Time Spy and scored around 13K GFX.
- HAPTIC TRACKPAD! Felt right at home considering I also daily a MBP 16 M2 Pro. No wobble or creakiness to worry about.
- Keyboard switches/travel felt great, albeit the layout was a bit funky.
- Rear IO for power, ethernet, and HDMI, exactly the things I'd want in the back and out of the way if I were to use them.
The bad, and the dealbreaker for me out of principle:
The 13980HX, which is supposed to be UNLOCKED, is locked down with a dynamic overclock undervolt protection.
Undervolting can raise score from 30-31K in R23 to 35-36K pretty easily, aka leaving about 20% CPU performance on the table, and some battery life/thermal savings. Yet, ASUS locked it down even against brute-force enabling it via RU.EFI or other backdoor methods.
I returned my unit because I simply do NOT believe in selling a product with an unlocked processor, then having the manufacturer take that feature away purposefully. If I am paying for an unlocked CPU, I want an unlocked CPU, that's it.
Heck, even a BIOS-level undervolt with a restriction (like the G16/G18 was initially) would've been 'acceptable', but nope. Completely neutered an otherwise perfect machine.
Sorry ASUS, you were so close to a winner for many of us, but for me, locking away extra free performance just because you wanted to is enough for me to look elsewhere.

The ProArt Studiobook 16 is well-built and very sturdy. The build quality overall is fantastic. The CPU and GPU are fast and great for both creative work and gaming.
The display has amazing color and is very bright. The only thing I don't like is the grain from the touch digitizer. It's not too big of a deal, but it does take getting used to. Especially when you edit a picture with very bright highlights and look at the screen from very close.
All in all, it's a fantastic laptop. And the addition of the stylus and backpack is also amazing.

It was great for the 10 days I had it. Then Asus pushed an update that bricked it. Thank goodness I bought it at Best Buy. They would have replaced it, but it no longer was available. So they offered to send it off to Asus for repair or refund. I chose the refund but was sad about it. The OLED screen and the performance of the machine was beautiful. Now deciding what to instead…

I read a lot of bad reviews. I don't understand why. sometimes I feel like we're talking about another laptop. it satisfies the needs of my work and more. I never play games just 3D designer i have MacBook Pro 2021 and windows gamer laptop i7 10th with rtx 2070super . The proart studiobook is a worth upgrade . I read that the latest update can result a bricked machine; and did it ,I even did all the update since my purchase everything is fine ! I changed in house the one single channel 32 gb to dual channel 64gb for my work needs and again everything is fine . Battery life 3 stars but I didn’t expect more I though it gonna be worst , but for all the species and components it’s good and for full time 3D works gpu needs charger I guess :) .

Honestly, I know everyone was complaining about the bios, but this computer is the best thing on the market. It’s not perfect but it’s as close to perfect as you can find, it weighs a little and is pretty large but I’m also 6’4 and a pretty strong person so all that is pretty ignorable for me. The only thing would recommend to ASUS at this point is to soften the edges around the laptop, though they are rounded out, they still feel a bit sharp and can be annoying when not using this on a table. However, I’ve had this for about 2-3 months right now and I do not regret picking this over a MacBook or any other computer in the market.

Fantastic build quality and extreme performance.
The laptop ships with an unpopulated sodimm slot so you can upgrade to 64GB.
There is also a spare m.2 slot.
You need to spudger tool to open the laptop’s base. See YouTube for instructions.

Had the laptop for almost a month and the most recent bios update bricked it. So it has to be sent back to the factory resulting in loosing everything on there along with having to find another means to do homework. If it would have happened earlier I would have returned it and went with something different

I am a product photographer and a graphic designer professionally. I also illustrate and design 3D characters for fun. I needed a laptop that has the power of a desktop and the color accuracy of a high end monitor like the Pro Art monitors. After spending many hours trying to find the best laptop for my needs I made a final decision to purchase the ASUS - ProArt Studiobook 16" OLED Touch Laptop - Intel 13 Gen Core i9 with 32GM RAM - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 - 1TB SSD - Mineral Black. I upgraded the ram to 64GM and added another 1TB SSD.
I am so glad I made the decision to buy this laptop. There are not any cons about this machine. It is a powerhouse and the colors are absolutely stunning. Thank you Asus

Got this to edit wedding pictures in CR2 format. It’s got the horsepower for the edits. Fans are a bit loud, and the NVME is a bit small. Also, the ram is only single channel. Display has a chain link overlay as a result of the touch screen.
