The computer works fine but the original ASUS charger cable was defective. The Geek squad guy gave me a used replacement one but not an ASUS original cable... disappointing.

This machine was working okay until less than a month after I purchased it I was using it then stpped to go cook dinner and it was on the BIOS could not fond any bootable devices. Several restart attempts yield the same result. I excited about this machine now its a huge disappointment.

So Frustrated! Blue Screen Memory Dump Every Day!

This computer started blue-screening about a year after purchase. Took it to Geek Squad 3 times and they couldn't fix it. We even sent it to the Geek Squad headquarters where they did an extensive/exhaustive repair and testing, but still blue screens many times per day. We gave Geek Squad all of the error codes, but that didn't help. It is a worthless paper-weight at this point.

Great budget VR laptop

I originally wanted a laptop for my living room to use for VR but also something to take with me for trips. Instead of building or buying a home theater pc or buy the new MSI series mini gaming pcs.
Upon looking around i only wanted to spend around 1,000k but i saw that many in that price point were equipped with the GTX 1050 or GTX 1050 TI. This laptop comes with the GTX 1060 which is more then enough to handle anything that comes your way as far as games.
My set up has the Display port going to my HDTV in my living room.
The oculus rift connects to the HDMI out and everything has worked without a hitch.
A few things that ive noticed that i wished was different or came with is.
-Battery life- 3-4 hours granted its for gaming so its not bad but hey i can wish.
-No SSD- many other laptops at this price point come with a 128GB SSD. But you get the better graphix card and SSDs are cheap now anyways.
-No 4k monitor- to be fair, no gaming laptop comes with 4k at this price point but its a bummer since a regular laptop at this price point comes with it.
Overall- Id say really good laptop for someone who wants a barebones VR laptop with none of the fancy bells and whistles.
Also, id been able to play all VR games so far with no lag so its been a success!
looks good to!

Good Product, easy to upgrade
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
pros:
1. very good CPU and GPU, enough amount of RAM
2. only having a 1TB mechanical hard drive might be a drawback, but it has an empty M.2 slot. I personally prefer an empty M.2 slot than a tiny 128GB ssd which will occupy the slot and can hardly store any game. just wait for ssd price drops and you can upgrade it easliy
3. remove 10 screws and you can remove the bottom panel easily. you will have access to 2.5inch slot ad M.2 slot. there is only ONE RAM slot. I think 8 out of 12 GB of ram is sorted on the motherboard.
4. screen is very good. it has very wide viewing angle(cuz it's an IPS panel)
5. it's very thin and light for a powerful gaming machine, just a bit larger and thicker than my old ASUS K501lx
cons:
1. I don't like its gaming look, especially the red ROG logo on the lid. for the same reason I excluded acer helios 300 from my list
2. fan noise is loud under load.
3, it has a G sync panel, which means it will be using its GTX1060 all the time, and it consumes a lot of power. a fully charged battery won't last more than 3.5 hours under normal use(web browsing stuff). so i have to carry power supply with it, and the power supply is kind of big
other:
it has a usb-c port, not sure if I can charge my laptop using a power bank through that port.

Great laptop for travel

I have only had the laptop for a couple weeks but love it so far. The only thing I didn't like was the boot time as it came with the 1TB mechanical Hard drive. I bought a Samsung 256 GB M.2 and cloned the Operating system onto it. Now boot time is around 20-30 sec. It is actually better then I expected now.
Extremely happy with this purchase.

Great Bang for your Buck

I'm truly impressed with this laptop.
I sold my Gaming Desktop with an i7-6700, GTX 980 (Not TI), and 8GB Ram. While wasn't the greatest, it played all of my games just fine at High-Ultra. However, Battlefield 1 wasn't the smoothest game on Ultra and had to be toned down.
After selling that a while back and recently my MacBook Pro, I wanted a gaming computer. Portability is important to me. However, laptop and gaming aren't always the best combinations.
Needless to say, I was blown away at how powerful this laptop was. I play Battlefield 1 on Ultra with a locked 60FPS and play around 70-90FPS without a locked FPS. I even play Overwatch on Epic settings reaching between 100-120FPS on average when the FPS is unlocked as well.
Mentioning locked FPS for those who aren't aware, this laptop includes G-SYNC which helps smooth out graphics. Games lock the game to 60FPS max to help keep the game running as smooth as possible!
I was scared to know that the GTX 1060 3GB in this laptop wasn't going to be enough and was itching for the 6GB. Though after reading a lot of reviews of the GPU, the 3GB was usually only running 2-5FPS less than the 6GB model in most modern games. IMO, 6GB is only necessary for those insane graphic games that not everyone plays. This GPU is completely capable of playing High-Ultra settings on all of the newer games.
The one downside is the laptop does get a bit hot. You don't feel it when you're gaming unless you put your hand in the space between the monitor and keyboard. It's nothing crazy hot either. But definitely warm to the touch. The fans also kick on and are a bit loud too. However with headphones and/or sound, you won't really notice it. It's a thin laptop gaming on Ultra settings, it's expected for all of this. From what I've read, and this goes for most gaming laptops, if you reinstall Windows without all of the bloat ware you will be able to push out a bit more power from the laptop.
All in all, $1,050 well spent on a sale.
I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone who's a casual gamer looking to play on Ultra settings at 1080p.

I bought this laptop after reading thousands of reviews online, walked into a best buy store, just to check out the size and the weight, and was told they have just one of these left in stock in the store at the time. It was also on a $100 something discount at the time.
My immediate response was, I'll take it.
And I'm very glad I did. This is the first laptop I've ever bought with my own money for myself, and I'm still terrified I'll jinx it. But its a beautiful machine.
Pros:
SO light! Compared to other laptops with the same specs.
Very fast, amazing start up time
I play don't starve together a lot, works great on this.
I use softwares like photoshop and illustrator and they work great, screen colours are very crisp too. I also use 3d softwares (sketchup and Rhino, and autocad) but haven't installed them in this machine yet.
I like that the keyboard brightness can be adjusted
Doesn't make noise, doesn't heat up too much.
Great design, and I care a LOT about design.
Cons:
Battery life isn't great, I think 3 hours with constant use, but i guess thats the price you pay for a heavy machine thats also lightweight.
Volume feels too low, dont know if its the same for all or a driver issue in mine.
Couldnt adjust screen brightness after a windows update, had to revert back. (would suggest not updating)
Cannot reverse the fn key function. My old hp envy has an option in the bios that allows me to reverse the fn key, so i dont have to hold it down every time i want to adjust volume/brightness. This point is the only reason I give it 4 stars and not 5.
But overall I'm very very happy with it! So glad I got it.

So far it has been a good machine. This is a day 1 review and I'll update it if I find shortcomings.
3dmark firestrike score is around 9200. Comparable to my 4670k + 1060 6gb desktop scores.
This is quite a nice machine. From the time you open the box you know they put a little more effort into everything. Even the box is nice.
So far I haven't played much but with the benchmark scores I get I can certainly play anything that comes out for a few years. It's thinner than I expected. The weight isn't bad at all. Everything is snappy. I was concerned about the hard drive being slow but it hasn't been nearly as bad as it could be. Everything is okay but I plan on adding a ssd for boot. Don't be afraid to purchase this given that the next generation of 20xx GeForce cards are expected soon. You won't get those until late 2018 and even then you probably won't get a mobile part until early 2019. This is a solid buy for a really good price. The speakers are not very loud but the sound quality is great. Overall it's a great laptop and I am very happy with my purchase.
