After a disastrous seven months with the Strix, upgrading to the ASUS ROG Maximus Z890 Hero was like hitting the reset button. For builders looking for true stability and maximum performance from their high-end components, this board delivers where others fail. This is the definition of a premium motherboard.
I have been building custom rigs for personal use dor almost 20 years, and with the Z890-E Strix was the first time I ever had to spend so much time constantly tweaking just to achieve basic stability. The Hero instantly solved all of that.
DDR5 Stability is Flawless: This was my biggest pain point. The Hero handled my RAM perfectly.
Kit: Corsair Vengeance 48GB (2x24GB) 8000MT/s CL38.
Result: XMP I (8000MT/s) worked instantly, first try. No manual tuning, no constant memory training errors (alhamdulillah!). This alone justifies the upgrade.
The board seamlessly handles next-gen storage, including full-speed Gen5 M.2 drives, and multiple high-capacity Gen4 drives. All my drives are running fast and stable.
The massive VRMs and superior thermal design ensure consistent performance, handling my flagship CPU without breaking a sweat, even under heavy load.
Building and Experience
Premium Build Quality: The Hero feels substantial and expertly engineered, a massive step up in quality compared to the Strix line.
Easy Setup: The GPU Q-Release slot and M.2 Q-Latches make installation painless. More importantly, the BIOS is intuitive and stable.
Unlike my previous experience, I haven't spent hours troubleshooting after a simple BIOS flash.
Final Verdict:
If you are running high-speed DDR5 or pushing a complex, high-power system, the ROG Maximus Z890 Hero is absolutely worth the investment. It delivered the stability and performance the Strix line promised but couldn't deliver. Mashallah, this board finally allowed my system (V1) to run to its full potential.

This motherboard is an absolute powerhouse! The build quality is top-notch and setup was incredibly smooth right out of the box. BIOS is super intuitive with tons of customization options for overclocking, fan control, and RGB. The DDR5 and Wi-Fi 7 support make it future-proof, and it pairs perfectly with my Intel Ultra 9 processor for gaming and streaming. I’ve noticed rock-solid stability and faster boot times compared to my previous board. Definitely worth every penny ASUS nailed it with this one!

I might change my rating later, as I just got the thing up and running with Windows 11 Pro. Spent a few hours troubleshooting why the OS install was taking so long. Then after I exhausted what little I know about building PCs, I went into the BIOS to see what version it was. Then I went to the motherboard's website only to discover the BIOS version was quite old. So I flashed the BIOS, and wouldn't you know it? The OS install went smooth! I should have just flashed the BIOS right from the start. Lesson learned. As of right now, so far, so good...
On another note, the board is a bit pricey. Time will tell if it was worth it.

Got it on sale. Worth every penny. Easy install and up and running no issues. Lots of features and connectors. Very easy OC thru Bios. If using a new Gen 5 SSD be sure to use Disk management to set it up a simple disc thru a dock on separate PC or laptop. Other wise wont get recognized in Windows install. Running great updated Bios lots of new settings

I've been using Asus for over 30 years and the quality is fantastic. I returned this motherboard because it was open box and got a new one for almost the same price. I highly recommend Asus.

While the motherboard itself is extremely good looking al for an all black build, I got one that wasn’t working. Not only that but when I went into get a new one, Best Buy gave me a used one that I had to return again. The motherboard itself is great, just my experience with Best Buy wasn’t the best.

Repair Queue Transparency Needed – Misleading Stat

The main problem with Best Buy’s repair status system is that it’s misleading and frustrating. I was quoted 2–3 days for my PC repair, yet it’s been over 5 days and the portal has shown “IN REPAIR” the entire time.
When I called, I was told no one has even started working on it. That means my PC has just been sitting there, untouched, while the system falsely claims it’s “IN REPAIR.” This is completely wrong. “IN REPAIR” should only mean a technician is actively working on the device. If it’s simply waiting in line, the status should say “WAITING TO BE REPAIRED.” How can something be “IN REPAIR” for days if no one has looked at it? Best Buy needs to fix this system by adding a status that shows when a device is in the queue and only mark “IN REPAIR” once work has begun.
Customers deserve transparency, not misleading updates that make it look like progress is being made when nothing has happened. Show the actual queue and when service truly starts.
We do understand your dissatisfaction with the repair quality status and the inconvenience this may have caused. Normal turnaround time for the warranty repair is within 10 business days. Information coming from valuable customers, like you, will continuously help us improve our future product offerings. This product was defective. I wasted time troubleshooting all for nothing and geek squad has no idea how to help troubleshoot and kept repeating himself over and over again. I ended up calling the manufacturer for help and they have sent me an RMA. Estimated time is 10 days to be repaired after they receive the motherboard. I have a trip out of the county next week and this will be a setback as i need this computer up and running ASAP. Called bestbuy and they said i'm out of the return window after selling me a piece of garbage. Not a happy customer.
