Fresh Ideas to an Old Concept

I bought the Asus ROG Raikiri Pro gaming controller from Best Buy and I have mixed feelings about it. On one hand, it has some great features that make it stand out from other controllers. On the other hand, it has some flaws that make it uncomfortable to use for long sessions.
The good:
- The controller has a built-in OLED display that shows various information such as battery level, profile, mic status, and custom animations or text. You can change the display settings and content using the Armoury Crate app on your PC. I like how I can see the controller status at a glance and personalize it with my own message or graphic.
- The controller supports tri-mode connectivity: wired USB-C, wireless 2.4 GHz RF, and Bluetooth. You can easily switch between different modes using the buttons above the OLED display. The Bluetooth mode has low latency and adaptive frequency hopping technology to avoid interference with other devices. The controller is also compatible with the latest Xbox console via wired USB-C.
- The controller has an ESS DAC built-in that delivers high-quality sound through the 3.5 mm headphone jack. The sound is clear and immersive, and you can hear every detail in your games. There is also a mute button for the mic next to the headphone jack.
- The controller has extensive customization options via the Armoury Crate app. You can remap buttons, adjust trigger and joystick sensitivity, change vibration strength, and tweak joystick response curves. The controller lets you create different profiles for different games and switch between them on the fly.
The bad:
- The controller is too small for my hands. I'm not a tall guy but this controller just felt cramped. I had trouble reaching some of the buttons and triggers comfortably. I prefer larger controllers that fit better in my hands.
- The four rear buttons are mushy and hard to press. They don't give enough tactile feedback and sometimes I don't know if I pressed them or not. I also found it awkward to use only my middle finger to press all four buttons because of the small size of the controller. On other controllers with four rear buttons, I can use both my middle and index fingers to press two buttons each.
Overall, I think the Asus ROG Raikiri Pro gaming controller has some potential but it needs some improvements in design and ergonomics. It's not a bad controller, but it's not a great one ergonomically. I'm keeping it because I'm a bit of an Asus fan boy, but I hope they release a larger second edition.

I'm giving this controller five stars because of the customization options, aesthetics (I can put my gamertag on the display screen, in ROG font, what else could you want?), and overall feel. The battery life is decent but I prefer to play wired, and the extra long usb cable is a plus! The only feature I feel this is missing is the lock on usb port. If you can snag one on a sale it's a great option for an upgrade beyond your standard xbox controller. But even at full price, I feel all of the customization options, back buttons and profiles make it worth it.
Take note though, because some of the options require the use of Asus' Armoury Crate Software. I use it to configure my Asus accessories and control my pc rgb.

Works great. The buttons on the rear of the controller are in a slightly awkward position compared to an xbox elite controller but it is way lighter and has more customization options via armory crate compared to the elite controller. In order to change settings in PC you have to use a usb cable to plug it in.

There were a lot of reviews online stating that this controller felt worse then the basic xbox controller so i was skeptical about purchasing it becuase of the price, but oh boy was i wrong. If you like customizing literally everything about your remote, an OLED display that shows everything from animations to battery life, the best feeling buttons on a controller, and esthetics to please us gamers who love RGB.... then i would 100% recommend this product. Also....its ROG, so how can you go wrong!

Doesn't Meet $180 Expectations

While the features may look enticing, some of them are just outright gimmicky. The oled screen would have great if it had utility such as displaying live system info or being able to screen capture a mini map in a game. Heck, even touch screen and app launchability would have made it a very enticing product worth considering for the price, however the implementation here is just half-baked. In my testing, the rear inputs were placed well but I found it difficult to grip the controller without accidentally actuating them. The triggers can be set to 2 variations of travel by sliding a physical switch on the rear of the controller. I found the triggers to be loose feeling and felt the skin of my index finger getting pinched between the trigger and rear housing several times. The bumpers and directional pad are soft and less clicky than your standard X box series controller. The face buttons felt perfect in my opinion and had some nice travel and tactility. I did dislike the decision on ASUS end to print the button letters rather than the 3d bubble lettering weve come to enjoy on standard Xbox controllers. The controller grips are made of gritty hard plastic that you could double as a nail file. The controller feels less premium than what you would expect from a product that costs $180 bucks. The best feature has to be the ability to use an included 2.4ghz dongle that is housed on the rear of the controller itself tucked nicely beneath a magnetic door. This cuts the input latency down quite a bit compared to bluetooth, which is also offered here. While using Armoury Crate, I couldn't figure out why the software was not detecting my controller. Turns out, it needed to be connected via the included (very-long) braided usb type c cable in order to start configuring my profiles, which could be saved to the controller's internal memory to use in wireless mode. For those of you hoping that the contoller back buttons could be mapped to keyboard commands media controls and macros, it cant be done as of yet through their Armoury Crate software but im sure they could always make that an option in future updates. This would be extremely useful for use with the Rog Ally while docked when it releases. All in all, can I recommend this controller? Sure. For $180 dollars? Not really. I'd wait for a sale because all you're really being taxed on is fancy rgb lights and a mostly useless oled screen for which the wow factor will fade rather quickly. I'm giving this 3 stars because it does have features you will not find on any other controller, it's just not priced right for what you're getting.

Over Priced and already have an issue

So I was excited to get this as I wanted something dedicated for my pc. So the first issue is definitely the price. I feel like they justify it due to the OLED screen, which honestly is a little underwhelming. The customization for it specifically seems a little underwhelming as well. Not many pre made options through crate and doing your own does not render well. Now to my main issues I have. The paddle placement is not the most comfortable. I thought with my bigger hands it would feel great but honestly it does not. The other issue is placement of the buttons next to the xbox button and their size. Too small and too close to other buttons. My controller is already dealing with a double clicking on the right d-pad after 3 days. Which now goes to the main issue I have. The quality of the buttons and sticks. They feel cheaper in comparison to the current Elite model Microsoft offers. The trigger switch feels like I am going to break it every time I switch from playing a fps to a racer. I have an issue with not being able to tighten the joysticks like I can on my Elite controller, which also goes in with a price issue for me. For the price I feel like I should be able to do much more on the controller, or at least be on par with the Elite. Final issue is the bluetooth for it seems very buggy and laggy. Using the dongle is way smoother. Honestly I am struggling on wanting to return it and just get my money back to get the non pro model instead, just get my money back period, or sending it out to have the double clicking warranted. I love ASUS, my entire pc build and monitors are ASUS products. But the controller feels like just an overpriced Power A option with a screen on it. I would not recommend the pro model at least.

I like it plain and simple. Controller feels nice to use, I dont accidentally click the buttons on the back and having the 3 different connection modes is nice. The OLED display is cool but just a bit gimmicky and the battery life is ok. on par with my normal xbox controllers.
My only complaints so far are that due to the shape of the buttons on the back its hard to find a controller stand, I dont like that in order to do anything with this controller you must connect it to armory crate. Oh and to use/connect this to your ROG Ally you must go to rog ally on asus web page and download the driver for this controller manually

So far its great the short trigger stops work you can also program the sensitivity of the triggers and button presses in the ASUS Armoury Crate. It is plug and play for Xbox/PC.
Battery Life of constant playing is 90+ hours but also can be 72 hours depending on your brightness for the rgb leds. The Oled panel is also programmable. The Controller is very grippy in the back so when your hands sweat the controller doesn't slide. There is 4 programmable buttons for MW I recommend programming m3 to A and m4 to B.

So let me first off say that i currently have a battle beaver, but also had a xbox elite 2, and a razer wolverine chroma 2. This controller has everything you need and want in one. It can either be used wireless or wired, you can remap your buttons on the app, upload the oled screen on the controller, and even set your analog sticks to a customizable deadzone/outer threshold to your comfortability for any game. Its freaking awesome! Say you want to beam enemies in your BR's or multiplayer games, well you can probably get it pretty close to not have any recoil or so. Let me get to a conclusion, if yiu are looking for a controller that's well worth thd price and customisation, THIS IS FOR YOU, you won't regret. P.S. might feel weird using it at first but you will get used to it.

This controller has an AWFUL layout for the back buttons. Even still, I was willing to try it out but there are two more big cons but I'll start with the pros
1. It does have customizable stick curves
2. Sticks are pretty good in terms of precision and resolution
3. The sound quality is pretty good if that's the kind of thing you're about
Now for the cons:
1. The back and start buttons are WAY down low. This means you can't reach them with your index finger, which is unworkable.
2. The 0 deadzones are not true 0 deadzones, which is just not optimal for the best esports performance.

Overall is very solid. Has a ton of customization in the armoury crate software. In my hands it feels smaller than the original xbox controller. The only thing I do not love about this controller is that I find the paddles at the bottom a bit short.
The original elite controller has extensions and is a bit better in that area for my hands.
Try to get a feel for the controller before you buy it.
