Customers are saying

Customers regard the ROG Strix 18" QHD 240Hz Gaming Laptop as a high-performance machine, particularly praising its powerful processing capabilities, stunning visuals, and smooth refresh rate. The large screen size is also a major plus for many, though some users note the significant weight and relatively short battery life as drawbacks. Positive feedback frequently highlights the impressive frame rates achieved in various games. However, the substantial size and weight may be a consideration for those who frequently transport their laptop.

ASUS hits it out of the park again with this ROG Strix Gaming Laptop. At the heart of this computer is a 14th Gen Intel i9 processor, an NVIDIA RTX 4080, 32GB of RAM, and a 2TB NVMe. These components bring enough power to handle the most demanding games. Design and Build This ROG Strix looks and feels amazing. The 18-inch screen is immersive, and with a 240 Hz refresh rate, gaming is buttery smooth for competitive games. There is also RGB lighting around the aluminum enclosure that is subtle and customizable. I like that it pulses red when the computer goes to sleep or while the lid is closed and charging. Gaming Performance -Red Dead Redemption 2: RDR2 is a visually stunning game that is full of detail and pushes computers to their limits. Using the Balanced preset with most settings set to Ultra and High, benchmarking resulted in an average FPS of 91 -Cyberpunk 2077: Cyberpunk is known for its Ray Tracing visuals and attention to detail. I wanted to see what exactly I could expect from this laptop, so I performed 3 benchmarks with different presets, and I was very pleased with the results: Ultra: 115 FPS Ray Tracing Ultra: 103 FPS Ray Tracing Overdrive: 71 FPS -3D Mark: Finally, I ran a Time Spy Test for the ROG Strix to see how it compares to other laptops and desktops. The results were a Graphics score of 18,189 and CPU score of 16,116. The craziest part was that these results matched and beat my friend's desktop PC with a 13th Gen Intel and RTX 3080. The ROG Strix showcases what a modern gaming laptop should be. It sets a high standard for gaming performance in a high-quality package. I'm very pleased with the Strix and feel confident that it will handle future games without issue.

Bought this laptop open box for over 2 grand with tax. I went for store pickup the person handing it off said I can add warranty after pickup but it will have to be from the app. I said that's fine. I was going to just activate manufacturer warranty. Here comes the twist. I go home to register product for manufacturing warranty and I was told it was already registered. So basically whoever registered it already left me without a warranty. Reached out to best buy, Agent Samrat picked up the online chat and told me I'm covered. I asked him, how does that work when the person who registered the laptop has completely different credentials such as email and address? He referred me to some links and to call best buy instead when he realized he doesn't know what he's doing. Talk about passing the buck. The link led nowhere special. I ended up just deciding to deal with the best buy incompetence by throwing more money at the $2000+ problem and adding to add geek squad protection for 3 years for a whopping $459 or whatever they wanted and they denied that, saying I need to come in store to take a look at the laptop first. I literally picked this up barely 24 hours ago. Yesterday. And after this major screw up, they keep screwing up by not even letting me add warranty and giving them more money unless I jump through this extra hoop. So this means the Agent who told me "you can just add warranty from the app" doesn't know what he's talking about. I used to work for best buy many years ago. This level of incompetence is not tolerated well, it all falls back on the sales manager and live chat managers not training these people correctly. Train your people. Quit relying on those online modules to train them in store they aren't that effective. I honestly am just going to stick to Amazon in the future. They don't bother me nearly as much as Best Buy has with their incompetence.

Amazing gaming laptop that can do everything you need in a computer! It's main purpose is high quality gaming but you can multitask and do everything you need for work, business or casually. The i9 processor and 32gb memory work together to do everything efficiently and quickly. High end gaming with the gforce graphics card makes games look and feel amazing with the qhd display, refresh rate is seamless and smooth on the games i played. Always go with a SSD hard drive as it makes a world of difference in load times and generally everything else. The screen and computer are huge but lightweight compared to other 18 inch gaming laptops. Doesn't feel like you are lifting weights when traveling with it. Being able to bring high end gaming with you anywhere without logging around an xbox is a huge plus, as you can play most of the game pass games with no issue. Space is no problem with the 2tb hard drive. Audio is also great and clear when gaming. Fans are pretty quiet once things start working together. High price but you will get that once you start putting together the components needed. The best gaming laptop I've ever owned, highly recommend!

Bought this laptop about a year ago. After a few months, it started blue screening (clock_watchdog_timeout). Took it to BB twice. The first time, they just forced some updates to be installed. The second time, even though they said they would send it back to Asus, they just re-installed the OS. It still kept blue screening, and it was clearly the CPU. I refused to sign that I was satisfied with the repair, and NOW I AM BARRED FROM USING GEEK SQUAD. No problem, will never buy from BB again. Sent it to Asus myself, Asus discovered that it needed new thermal paste/pad, runs fine now.

We do understand your dissatisfaction with the quality of your recent customer service experience from your seller and the inconvenience this may have caused if the blue-screen error persisted. The error message," clock_watchdog_timeout" is due to driver corruption. To resolve this issue, try to run a factory reset and install Windows, drivers, BIOS and application update. WIthin 24 hours of opening and trying to set up laptop the graphics card failed. Geek Squad employee was great to help wipe the laptop since you can not really read the screen at all. Also, advised it was a hardware issue. Returned item for a refund. Thought this was going to be a great laptop.

At this price, the laptop should be a beast, and it is. Unlike many other gaming laptops there really is nothing to add. 2.5GB LAN, 32GB DDR5 RAM, Nvidia 4080, I9-14900HX, 2 TB M.2, Thunderbolt, Wi-Fi 6E, HDMI, USC-C, and a large 18” screen. The main specs show this should be great and it is. Due to its size, it’s heavier than most laptops. The plastic case looks nice and has RGB lights on the bottom front. The case is solid and didn’t flex much. The Asus symbol does not light up. The rear of the sides, and entire back are vents for the cooling. The ports are on the sides to the middle and front of the case. If you do want to add anything to the laptop hardware wise, just unscrew the bottom, note the screws, they do come in different sizes, and you can add another M.2 or change memory etc. It’s easy to open and access slots if wanted. The only update I made to this machine was upgrading it form Windows 11 Home to Pro. Turning it on and at idle is pretty quiet. At gaming or stressing it the fan noise is noticeable. The keyboard never got so hot to the touch I couldn’t use it. An almost full size keyboard layout is nice. The keypad is a little scrunched, but at least it has one. Asus filled the space offered by the 18” screen, with a full keyboard layout, and a large touchpad. With plenty of room to rest your wrists. They also have dedicated keys for computer options as well as the F keys serving 2 functions. The keys are lit and can be assigned colors through the Asus Crate program. The LAN 2.5GB port got throughout of ~220MB/s and the Wi-Fi6E showed a 2404 connection rate and a throughput of ~190MB/s. Both were transferring a 8GB video file. Either way, if you can support the top speeds, you’ll be able to transfer files fast. The screen is large for a laptop 18”, 2560x1600 resolution. My screen had no issues and looked great. No bleeding and colors looked good. I was also able to connect to a 3440x 1440 100Hz monitor through USB-C and HDMI with no issues. Running the Future Mark Speedway benchmark, I got scores of 4550-4610 consistently whether using the laptop or external screens. Almost doubt of some other laptops I had with 4060 or 4070 GPUs, and 12 and 13th gen Intel processors, they scored in the 2200s with the same tests at the same or lower resolutions. Make sure to select always use the Nvidia GPU. Coming with a 2TB M.2 leaves a lot of room for games and other items after the OS. It was easy to add another 2TB M.2 and have space for any games or programs I wanted to use. The included drive was a Western Digital one. Gaming wise, it took on about everything I through at it fine. It won’t run with all of the features turned on like a desktop for the most advanced games, but for being mobile it’s get close enough to still look great. Pulling the plug while gaming only had a slight pause, but it kept going. Plugging in caused no issues. The Asus Crate program has gotten pretty good at making features you need for the laptop easily accessible. The BIOS is an Asus standard, and also easy to navigate. I would make sure to update all the drivers before installing more programs. There was no real bloatware unless you don’t want the Asus Crate system. Usually for laptops you may have to make some big compromises, but not with this one. You sacrifice weight and size to get something close to a desktop with many of the the abilities of the desktop such as more ports, a LAN etc. Whether on a desk or on the go, this laptop will let you game anywhere you want and have good looking graphics to play with. Also, you don’t have to add anything to the laptop to make it work it’s best, you already paid to have it included. This laptop is a beast, and it the cost reflects it. Unlike many other gaming laptops there really is nothing to add.

Tough break. A very powerful laptop no doubt but just after a few days of setting up. I found a dead pixel on the display. I might wait for a few days before returning it, if it doesn't go away. I can probably let it go but it is located close in the middle and I is noticeable over a light background. Not to say it is $2.6k laptop. I assume it is a dead pixel because I cannot see it over a background. From what I understand, stuck pixels can still be seen on black since they are stuck on that color.

    A heavy gaming powerhouse

I am so incredibly relived that the ROG Strix is truly capable. Literally the last two "gaming laptops" that I have owned were not powerful enough on day one. It is such a punch to the gut to boot up a brand new gaming laptop only to find that average games max out system performance running with reduced framerates. Thankfully this ROG was able to immediately win me over when I booted up Windows Flight Simulator and the system recognized that the simulator could run at max performance. My only critiques are rather minor: - The webcam does not have a cover. - There is no fingerprint sensor for ultra fast login - No touch screen - Screen is not OLED (black levels are not striking) - Battery performance is unimpressive - Finish picks up smudges and fingerprints - Ergonomics is an issue: The laptop sits rather high in order to increase airflow. This is quite noticeable as the edge of the laptop presses uncomfortably into your wrists as you type. - The laptop is big and heavy. 6.5 pounds doesn't sound like much, but if you move the laptop around frequently - you will absolutely notice that it is hard to simply pick up by grabbing a corner of the laptop. You literally need to use two hands which can make the system feel clunky and less convenient for an all purpose laptop. This laptop is an absolute beast that truly puts gaming first. I usually hate any software added by the manufacturer, but thanks to my ROG Ally - I have grown quite fond of the ROG Armory Crate. It helps to easily monitor settings and performance - and it also does a great job of consolidating your game library into one screen (listing all of your games from Xbox Game Pass, Steam, etc). I love this laptop, but if gaming is not your main focus - I probably wouldn't suggest the ROG Strix. The system is very capable, but it is large, heavy, and not comfortable for a great deal of typing. Its size of nearly 12 inches by 16 inches makes it too large for many bags. Take a look at my pictures to see just how large it looks compared to a standard backpack. But if you are a true gamer, prepare to fall in love!

This was my first ever gaming laptop, and without a shadow of a doubt this is an absolute god of a laptop. Here are some of the pro's/cons of it summed up Pros: - Out of the box can play virtually any modern game as of November 2024 (FPS games, RPG games, etc) at full settings smoothly. I play a lot of Overwatch and at 1600x 2560, it was at a full 240fps on ultra settings. Talk about a "WOW" factor - Everything runs super fast and smooth. In part due to 240 fps, but mostly due to the i9 14th gen processor and SSD storage. Everything runs and boots up within 2-4 seconds, from games to browsers you feel how effective it is - To my surprise, the keyboard is really nice on this. It isn't super clicky and annoying, it's quiet and almost a bit soft to the touch. It makes it very enjoyable if u find yourself typing essays, or Best Buy reviews. Also the build quality of the laptop itself is solid. This thing is made of some hard metal or aluminum, nothing feels weak at all. - The price is the best fit for the components I've ever seen. 4080 12gb vram, i9 14th gen processor, 2 tb storage, 1600x2560 240hz display at 18" FOR $2000 on sale is phenomenal. I got mine on sale and got it in the open box "excellent" condition, and it is literally just like new except cheaper for 2k rather than 2200, even still that's is very good pricing for something of this quality. Cons: - As expected of all gaming laptops, the battery is not going to be great. It's going to need to be plugged in at all times in order to function, but even knowing this I am a bit taken back at how poor the battery is. It only lasts 1 hour unplugged, even without playing games. it makes sense since its an absolute powerhouse of a laptop and will demand energy consumption, but still it's the biggest downside if you care about portability. You will need to stay near an outlet 24/7 with this in mind - The size. This in particular doesn't bother me personally, but I can imagine for some people it is an important factor. This laptop is not convenient to carry around. It is BIG. If you're looking for a small, thin, and powerful gaming laptop, look elsewhere. 6 pounds doesn't sound like a lot, but you'd be surprised and how bulky it is once you see it. - The fans/cooling. This (like the last point) doesn't bother me personally, but the fans are noisy. The entire back and bottom of this laptop is essentially one big air cooled machine, which is great so it doesn't overheat, but it will be noticeable. I wouldn't say it's very loud, but moderately loud to others around you, if you care for that sorta thing. Conclusion: If you are looking for a large and more stationary powerhouse of a gaming laptop well worth the price, look no further and buy this. I would try to get this on sale, or open boxed in "excellent condition" if possible, but you will have no problem playing any game you can dream of on ultra settings wrapped in an 18" 240 hz display. It will need to be plugged in at all times, and the fans will be a bit loud, but the playability and enjoyability FAR outweighs the negatives (in my opinion). If you're even on the fence about it, buy it. You will not be disappointed.

I bought the open box "Excellent condition". It is supposed to be like new in original condition in original packaging with accessories. It arrived in a plain box with hardly any packaging with a power supply without a power cable. Needless to say, it was damaged. I took it to the store and was told they could not replace it, only refund. Waste of time
