Good for on the go dads like me!
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I came from the console side of things. When i saw that my rog ally was basically performing in the level of a ps5, i decided to grab a gaming laptop. This laptop performs well beyond my expectations. I never go below high settings and games always run in the 60 fps section, which works for me. The huge screen makes it easy and comfy to play anywhere. Im a big fan of ASUS, and for the price, I believe I recieved one of the best laptops of 2024.

Definitely powerful, "laptop" may be a stretch
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The short version is this is an incredible machine. It's an 18" laptop with a 240hz display, and an RTX4080 graphics card, and you really do get everything you expect out of a beast of a machine with those kinds of specs. As you can imagine, this thing pumps out a lot of heat, which aside from the size, is the biggest reason I put "laptop" in quotes. I have a laptop pad for my 15" laptop I've been getting awkwardly by with while trying to find a good setup for an 18" laptop, but haven't managed to find exactly what I'm looking for yet due to 18" being a less standard size. If you're using this on a desk, you won't have any issues, but if you're using this on a couch like I often enjoy doing, you'll definitely need to invest in a cooling pad or lap pad of some kind. For quite a while now, Ark has been my benchmark game for testing new graphics cards as most setups struggle under Ultra maxed settings. My previous laptop boasted an RTX3070 and was able to handle Ark on High without any problems but ran into frame rate issues under Ultra settings. This RTX4080 card is the first time I've been able to run Ark on Ultra settings on a laptop without any frame drops at all. I was able to run around the world on max settings smoothly and without any issues. Seriously impressive! Aside from the non-standard size making it a bit difficult to find a good cooling pad, and a carrying backpack that won't break the bank, the only other minor drawback for me is the camera. The laptop includes an HD camera that works for video conferencing, or whatever you want to use it for, but doesn't also have an IR camera, and therefore doesn't support Windows Hello. Given they already added a bit of a notch at the top for a camera, and the overall premium nature of this device, this felt like a surprising exclusion. Honestly, coming from another laptop that supported Windows Hello, I'm just ever so slightly annoyed every time I open this up and have to type in my passcode to unlock it instead of it just automatically recognizing me and logging me in. There's a lot of factors to consider when choosing a gaming laptop, size, power, refresh rate. This is truly a beast in every aspect of the word. If you have your heart set on a very large laptop, and are looking for incredible refresh rate, ample memory and storage, and a very powerful graphics card, look no further than the ROG Strix 18" with an RTX4080 card. You won't be disappointed.

Performance Matters
|Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great computer with powerful performance. The computer doesn’t get anywhere as hot as my previous gaming laptop from MSI. I am not a fan of the RBG light bar at the bottom of the laptop though, it’s honestly annoying. Battery life is not where I’d like it to be. It last maybe an hour even playing the most basic low pixel games and set to minimum power output in Nvidia settings, but that’s to be expected with how powerful it is.

High end gaming laptop has it all
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. At this price, the laptop should be a beast, and it is. Unlike many other gaming laptops there really is nothing to add. 2.5GB LAN, 32GB DDR5 RAM, Nvidia 4080, I9-14900HX, 2 TB M.2, Thunderbolt, Wi-Fi 6E, HDMI, USC-C, and a large 18” screen. The main specs show this should be great and it is. Due to its size, it’s heavier than most laptops. The plastic case looks nice and has RGB lights on the bottom front. The case is solid and didn’t flex much. The Asus symbol does not light up. The rear of the sides, and entire back are vents for the cooling. The ports are on the sides to the middle and front of the case. If you do want to add anything to the laptop hardware wise, just unscrew the bottom, note the screws, they do come in different sizes, and you can add another M.2 or change memory etc. It’s easy to open and access slots if wanted. The only update I made to this machine was upgrading it form Windows 11 Home to Pro. Turning it on and at idle is pretty quiet. At gaming or stressing it the fan noise is noticeable. The keyboard never got so hot to the touch I couldn’t use it. An almost full size keyboard layout is nice. The keypad is a little scrunched, but at least it has one. Asus filled the space offered by the 18” screen, with a full keyboard layout, and a large touchpad. With plenty of room to rest your wrists. They also have dedicated keys for computer options as well as the F keys serving 2 functions. The keys are lit and can be assigned colors through the Asus Crate program. The LAN 2.5GB port got throughout of ~220MB/s and the Wi-Fi6E showed a 2404 connection rate and a throughput of ~190MB/s. Both were transferring a 8GB video file. Either way, if you can support the top speeds, you’ll be able to transfer files fast. The screen is large for a laptop 18”, 2560x1600 resolution. My screen had no issues and looked great. No bleeding and colors looked good. I was also able to connect to a 3440x 1440 100Hz monitor through USB-C and HDMI with no issues. Running the Future Mark Speedway benchmark, I got scores of 4550-4610 consistently whether using the laptop or external screens. Almost doubt of some other laptops I had with 4060 or 4070 GPUs, and 12 and 13th gen Intel processors, they scored in the 2200s with the same tests at the same or lower resolutions. Make sure to select always use the Nvidia GPU. Coming with a 2TB M.2 leaves a lot of room for games and other items after the OS. It was easy to add another 2TB M.2 and have space for any games or programs I wanted to use. The included drive was a Western Digital one. Gaming wise, it took on about everything I through at it fine. It won’t run with all of the features turned on like a desktop for the most advanced games, but for being mobile it’s get close enough to still look great. Pulling the plug while gaming only had a slight pause, but it kept going. Plugging in caused no issues. The Asus Crate program has gotten pretty good at making features you need for the laptop easily accessible. The BIOS is an Asus standard, and also easy to navigate. I would make sure to update all the drivers before installing more programs. There was no real bloatware unless you don’t want the Asus Crate system. Usually for laptops you may have to make some big compromises, but not with this one. You sacrifice weight and size to get something close to a desktop with many of the the abilities of the desktop such as more ports, a LAN etc. Whether on a desk or on the go, this laptop will let you game anywhere you want and have good looking graphics to play with. Also, you don’t have to add anything to the laptop to make it work it’s best, you already paid to have it included. This laptop is a beast, and it the cost reflects it. Unlike many other gaming laptops there really is nothing to add.

Beast of a machine
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far so yood! I bought this computer for photo editing, snd it id a BEAST. My old computer was crashing for multiple reasons, and I waited about 2 years to try and find the right machine for me. I think this should hold me stable for quite a while since it seems to be expandable! The lights are a super cool touch that although are superflous, but also very fun. The screen is interesting though. Its not your typical size and is actually quite square. The computer is massive, so expect to need to buy a new laptop case if you do not already have a beast of a laptop. Its not going to fit in most. The batter life is not as long as I expected while working in lightroom, but given what its doing ill take the 1.5ish hours of time without a chord.

Great laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Visuals are great. Runs everything super smooth and fast at ultra settings. Massive screen with huge storage space. Battery dies a lil fast so definitely need a charger nearby while gaming. With regular tasks it will last maybe 3-5 hours depending on how much its charged but thats just the trade off for how much power it can produce. Overall great laptop

Next-Level Gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.ASUS hits it out of the park again with this ROG Strix Gaming Laptop. At the heart of this computer is a 14th Gen Intel i9 processor, an NVIDIA RTX 4080, 32GB of RAM, and a 2TB NVMe. These components bring enough power to handle the most demanding games. Design and Build This ROG Strix looks and feels amazing. The 18-inch screen is immersive, and with a 240 Hz refresh rate, gaming is buttery smooth for competitive games. There is also RGB lighting around the aluminum enclosure that is subtle and customizable. I like that it pulses red when the computer goes to sleep or while the lid is closed and charging. Gaming Performance -Red Dead Redemption 2: RDR2 is a visually stunning game that is full of detail and pushes computers to their limits. Using the Balanced preset with most settings set to Ultra and High, benchmarking resulted in an average FPS of 91 -Cyberpunk 2077: Cyberpunk is known for its Ray Tracing visuals and attention to detail. I wanted to see what exactly I could expect from this laptop, so I performed 3 benchmarks with different presets, and I was very pleased with the results: Ultra: 115 FPS Ray Tracing Ultra: 103 FPS Ray Tracing Overdrive: 71 FPS -3D Mark: Finally, I ran a Time Spy Test for the ROG Strix to see how it compares to other laptops and desktops. The results were a Graphics score of 18,189 and CPU score of 16,116. The craziest part was that these results matched and beat my friend's desktop PC with a 13th Gen Intel and RTX 3080. The ROG Strix showcases what a modern gaming laptop should be. It sets a high standard for gaming performance in a high-quality package. I'm very pleased with the Strix and feel confident that it will handle future games without issue.

Amazing performance and sound from my ASUS!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I haven't had a chance to try gaming on it yet, but the visuals and screen brightness are absolutely fantastic! The sound from the onboard speakers is significantly better, providing a surround sound experience that really outshines the Acer, which tends to sound a bit tinny with minimal bass. The brightness is impressive as well—much brighter than my Acer. My son and I both own an Acer Helios Predator 18 with an i9 14th gen and (me 4080) (he 4090) graphics card as well. His laptop’s fans kick in during 3D scanning and processing, but they aren’t too loud. In contrast, my ASUS stays relatively quiet. Overall, it's a powerful and excellent laptop for the price. I highly recommend it!"

Great laptop!!
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing is super fast. Boots up very quickly, screen is super high definition and handles any game I throw at it. I’m super happy with this purchase and for a great price. Similar laptops are way more expensive. Highly recommend and would buy again.

A great laptop with some annoying quirks
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When the laptop works well, it’s fantastic. It has a lot of annoying quirks for something in this price range. Obviously performance and power isn’t its issue, it runs games at ultra in 1600p resolution and very good FPS. Seems more like software problems where sometimes it’ll just freeze up randomly, or a video game will crash with no error message. I can live with the quirks but they do annoy me quite a bit as it’s an expensive product. Screen size is beautiful, brightness and display quality is excellent.

Huge, fast laptop with everything you need
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I’ve had some time to use this laptop, and it has performed very well. The build quality seems solid, and the audio quality during gaming is surprisingly crisp and loud. During initial setup, there was some sluggishness with the system.after fully updating everything, it still took a few days of use for the system to actually “settle in” and perform as intended. Since then, I have had zero issues. Gaming performance is solid. The specs are fantastic for the price I paid. I purchased it on sale, and I’m glad I did. If you’re looking for a huge screen and to play the latest games, this is the one for you. I installed a 2TB SSD to store my games, and I do not install any to the OS SSD. Also, battery life when mobile is great on silent mode, it lasts for 3-4 hours. Buy it. You won’t be disappointed.

Great PC minus the Asus software
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty good overall, great overall speed and specs. I have noticed that on more resource heavy games there can be significant slow-downs with the gpu. I think this may be related to the included Asus Armory Crate software that supposedly boosts performance but I have found a lot of folks complain that it ends up bogging down your system. Definitely worth the purchase though.

Build Quality Concerns
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Against my better judgment, I purchased the only on-hand and readily available unit in DFW. I inspected onsite and was assured the unit being labeled in "excellent" condition meant that the machine was like "new" and never touched. I was ill informed, and the machine was registered by the previous owner and reimaged by the store. All appeared fine during setup, but after hours of transferring and organizing old files, the machine began to repeatedly crash and restart, making it impossible to work with. I returned the machine and explained what was wrong with it, but I suspect the item will end up being sold again as an open box item to someone else because customer service only concern was if I had the receipt - not the issue with the laptop. I've had an Asus laptop for primary use without issues for the past 4 to 5 years. The reliability of my current system is without question fantastic, but the experience with this 2600 dollar Stix unit makes me wonder if they've started slacking on QA at Asus. I thought about replacing the openbox with a new one but noticed too many message board complaints about the same issue. Opted for top end Legion 9i from manufacturer instead.

||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wasnt sure what to expect buying this laptop. I haven't had a gaming PC in over 15yrs. First its big. I travel a lot for work and I wish I knew how heavy it was going to be. With that said, this computer is awesome. Runs all of the newest triple A games with ease. The screen is very nice and I also like the keyboard. Overall I would by this computer again but probably a 16" next time to reduce weight.

Incredible Upgrade
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent laptop so far. Huge upgrade from the over eight years old gaming ROG I had before, and the screen is bigger than I anticipated, but so far everything I run on it, even intensive stuff like latest games on ultra, runs super smooth on it and looks fantastic. The lighting on the laptop itself is fully customizable and stands out in a pleasant way. I've run into a few problems with Windows 11, but that's simply difficulties with the OS and some of the bloaty background processes it runs on default, which is an easy enough fix. The battery life and how hot the laptop can run leaves a lot to be desired, but either of those things aren't really big obstacles due to the way I usually have my setup running. I ultimately wasn't even going to replace my old laptop with another ROG even though I've never had problems with ROG. But in the end I got one anyway, but I must admit, this Strix is every bit worth the amount it cost.

Gaming Beast, Workload Monster.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Most of my workload is on Photoshop or Illustrator. I also work with AI and was looking for at least an RTX 4080. My desktop setup is an i9 11900k with the 3090 vision. The mobo is also a vision motherboard. All the pieces are from Giga. The laptop outperforms my current desktop. So now I am also looking to upgrade the PC, I also game in my free time. Mostly COD and Starfield or the DRL. I am getting more frames on the laptop compared to the desktop. My monitor for the desktop is an Alienware 27" 240hz ips panel. I know 50 series is around the corner, but I found this at under $1800 in excellent condition so I jumped. If you are waiting to go to the 40 or 50 series, its probably worth it. I think that ddr5 is just much faster than ddr4 for workloads. Gaming probably around 20% better than ddr4. Workloads is up 40% for me. Battery life is decent when doing work (4-5 hours). Everyone knows its plugged in for gaming. I would say that this was very worth the price. I also like that this is an 18", coming from 16, I didnt think it would make a big difference, but it does.
