I 1st bought the $1600 4060 version. Fan was loud and has seemed to be rubbing against something. This model is more than double in price but the fans are much quiter. For being a small laptop still performs very well. Screen is amazing. I have a 3090 build that im debating on selling to make this my main computer. Id say its more on par with a desktop 3080 but thats still more than enough. Seems like compared to other asus models they took QC serious on this 1. Specs r off from what best buy states. . It has 32gb ddr5 ram and the nebula MiniLED screen.

This is a fantastic little machine. So portable and so powerful. After getting rid of bloatware and installing GHelper, it runs so quietly and efficiently. It doesn’t look like an obvious gamer machine, a plus for me since I bring this to meetings for work. It is indeed pricey, but with its specs, you’re future-proofed for at least a couple of years before needing to upgrade—a must if you hate e-waste. And the mini-LED screen is so beautiful and sharp, reducing eye strain significantly.

Insane power, sleek form factor, beautiful display: what's not to love? I especially appreciate the 4090 mobile GPU. It's still one of the fastest 14" laptops after all these years! Very pleased with this purchase.

I was really excited about this one with the 4090 and great battery life. Unfortunately 3 weeks in I started getting strange scrambled video signals after waking my device from sleep. All of my drivers have been updated, and the first time this happened I figured it was just a glitch. I have never seen this happen with a different system I owned with a 40 series gpu. The second time this happened made me nervous about the video card. This is truly an awesome laptop and super performance and graphics with the 4090, but I was really disappointed about this issue happening. I'm sure this is just a bad unit and not a normal G14 4090, but it gave me pause in replacing it.

Got a good open box deal for what is a flawless device that appeared to have never been used. The performance is unbelievable for a 14" platform and you definitely are paying for it. The Timespy results were excellent and the new LED screen is worth going for the 4090. Bloated by default as is typical, recommend reinstalling Windows clean and dumping Armory Crate for Ghelper. Very satisfied customer.

This Little Beast

So I will start off by saying i was shopping around for a new laptop for Work & Play. I knew about this G14 (2023) model for a bit now and researched it for a long while. I waited and waited and compared it to the new 2024 model and it was a no brainer on which model seems best for me and future proofing.
The 2023 model i purchased was with the Mini LED 4090 graphics card with 32 gigs or ram & 1 TB SSD.
The clean & sleek look of this laptop is awesome as I didn't want the gamer look going into the office and meetings.
I've only had this machine for about 3 weeks now and as of now it is a little beast of a laptop.
For Work: performs really well as i am in the Forensic Engineering field and need RAM and GPU power to scale modeling presentations. The portability is fantastic as it is light weight and well built. The screen (Mini LED) is as close as you can get to OLED levels without the worry of burn in on long work hours sitting in front of the computer.
For Play: This beast is capable of handling anything you throw at it. The specs will say its an underpowered GPU due to the limit of 125 watts and that may very well be true but don't let that fool you this things can handle everything on ultra settings. I play mostly FPS games (CoD & Destiny) with no issues at all and the FPS numbers (1% lows) don't dip much at all and stays constant at 165 frames per second (screen limit is also 165). The vibrant colors in game play is top notch. Can you game on 14 inches???? simple answer is yes but again some may want more screen real estate 16, or 18 inches but then you lose portability. Easy solution is just connect via HDMI 2.1 to a 240+ MHz screen and go beyond the laptop screen limit.
Some Knocks but not Cons: There are plenty of ports and more than you may ever need but wish they would be on the back of the computer and not so far up on each side. The cords can get annoying by getting in your way. The 32Gig of ram is great but would be better if none of the slots were soldered. For this model i have 1 ram stick of 16 gigs that can be upgraded, however the other 16 gig slot is soldered. Some is better than none. The 2024 you have no options but to deal with what you get so the 2023 model give a little more flexibility which ill take any day. The keyboard is great and compact & the track pad is glass, so its super responsive and precise, however the only knock to the keyboard is the lighting could be better. its not a deal breaker but again could be better.
The True Cons: It does get hot and the battery drains quickly. You can mitigate these issues by using Armory Crate or G-Helper to solve some of the issues but it wont magically provide you a crazy amount of extra battery life. You will have to carry the power brick with you if you want to game or work with intensive programs that require the GPU power. As for the HEAT.....This is a small chassis 14 inches so expect it to get hot. The fans do kick up and can be a bother to some but again its a 14 inch chassis so you should expect that. The vapor chamber does a good job of expelling the heat but it can only do so much when this thing has a 4090 in it.
Last Thoughts: I have only had this computer for 3 weeks so my star rating can change as i continue to spend more time with it. I hope i got a good lottery on the parts but only time will tell. I may tell you later that this computer isn't worth it but i doubt based on my current time thus far that i will have to resort to it. 5 stars so far........hopefully that doesn't change.

This is probably the most powerful a 14inch laptop can get that doesn’t cost an arm and leg and isn’t prone to battery problems like Razer. You lose Animatrix or whatever it’s called on the back but get a beautiful Mini LED screen on the front. Power is great (16000+ timespy with potential to go higher with bios and cooling tweaks). It can handle pretty much everything you can throw at it. Cooling is very good on GPU and mid on CPU so turn off cpu boost to keep temps in check at Turbo setting. Fans can get loud, but some tweaks like no boosting and undervolting can keep it in line. On Silent it’s silent. On performance it’s a low hum with 15000+ timespy. I’m sure a repaste would bring temps down better. Ports leave something to be desired but it’s an ultraportable so it’s expected. All in all a great 14inch laptop when it’s on sale, a very good laptop at full price.

Let me start my saying I was debating between this 2023 4090 model with the matte mini led screen and the 2024 4070 model with the OLED screen and eventually decided on this one due to it being much more powerful. I was very excited to purchase this laptop and really wanted it to work out as this was the only 14 inch 4090 model out there of any brand but due to Asus ROG's QC, I had this model fail on me twice! After I got it, I ran updates using the MyAsus app, updating drivers and the BIOS and ran some games and they ran great. However, it died after three days of light use. I watched some videos on youtube and then closed the lid. When I came back a few hours later I saw it was off, and I pressed the power button and saw it was going into a boot loop and wouldn't even load the BIOS or even display the ROG logo. The keyboard would light up but the screen was just black and the laptop kept restarting after very 5 seconds. I did a hard reset a bunch of times holding the power button for up to two minutes at times but the problem persisted. I even opened it up and disconnected the battery and the removed the RAM and tried a hard reset a few times again but no luck. I eventually just had to return it to best buy and ordered a replacement of this same model thinking maybe I just had some bad luck. After my second 2023 G14 comes in, I again ran updates using the MyAsus software, updating various drivers and the BIOS again. The next day, again I watched some youtube videos, then closed the lid, came back an hour or two later only to find it unresponsive again! It was doing the same boot loop. Eventually it stopped doing the boot loop but wouldn't show anything on the screen and there was no way to load into the BIOS let alone windows. This one died less than 24 hours after it was delievered! What is this ASUS?! This is a very expensive laptop and I expect much better QC than this!
It saddens me to return this (twice) because there was a lot to like about this model. It ran AAA games at the highest settings with really great frame rates. The mini led screen was gorgeous and from my eyes it was every bit as good as the 2024 OLED screen with vibrant colors. I was worried about the screen being matte but the colors looked so good that you couldn't even tell it was matte and you still had the benefits of a matte screen like minimal reflections. It ran pretty warm but the GPU and CPU stayed within reasonable temperatures. It's not as light or slim as the 2024 model but it was still light enough to be considered slim and very portable and the battery life seemed great when doing light tasks. I noticed there were some issues with Armoury Crate with both models and the laptop's ability to sleep. With Armoury Crate installed, both models had trouble going to sleep. If closed it's lid it would still stay on. When you manually try to put it to sleep, it would wake up again right away. I found uninstalling Armoury Crate solved this issue in both of the 2023 G14's I had. Another issue was with the latest AMD drivers. Basically the latest version of AMD Adrenaline (v24 at the time of writing this review) would cause a lot of blooming on the screen when running on the iGPU. Installing v23 is what solved that issue and this really was more of an AMD issue.
This laptop had great reviews online for the most part but I think there are some serious QC issues with the ones that Best Buy has in their warehouse. A $3000+ laptop should not be dieing like this. When I returned the second one, a Geek Squad member looked at it and told me his boss bought the same model recently only to return it in a week because of the same issue that I had. Best Buy needs to send these units back to ASUS until ASUS can actually figure out what is going on here. I had a few suspicions, with there being an electrical issue or maybe it was the latest BIOS update that was bricking these models.
I'm giving this model a 1 star but if I could, I'd give it a 0 because again, a $3000+ laptop should not be dieing! If you guys are seriously considering this model ( and I don't blame you if you are because there is a lot to like if they didn't brick) just know that you are really rolling the dice here. Even though I wanted to, I just couldn't roll the dice a third time with this model. Instead I decided to roll the dice with their newer 2024 4070 OLED model and so far it's been working great without any issues. I'll have a review of that model too after another month or two.
ASUS if you guys are reading this, instead of copy and pasting the same response you're giving to all other unhappy reviewers of this model, just fix your laptops so this doesn't keep happening. This is the model that I wanted badly but had to settle for something less powerful.

So This Might Be The Best Laptop I've Ever Used

The Asus Zephyrus G14. Just - wow. Getting 3080+ desktop-level performance from a 14" laptop without it sounding like a jet engine is actually mind-blowing. The value on this is much better than the Razer Blade 14, let's just get that out of the way. Now onto the details.
DESIGN: It's got a beautiful white finish with a NICE spacious keyboard that has good travel. Glass trackpad is wonderful and responsive. Speakers are amazing for a 14" laptop as well. Not super loud but good sound. Webcam is good, ports are good (left USB-C port ties to integrated graphics, right USB-C port ties to dGPU, and HDMI 2.1 ties to dGPU unless you're in Eco mode). It is COMPACT! Putting this next to my Legion Pro 7i or even Zephyrus M16, it looks like a miniature model, but it's a full-blown gaming machine!! Lifting with one hand is so easy. It's thin, light, and easily fits in a bag without weighing down your back. After comparing with other 4090 machines, I find myself subconsciously reaching for this one every time because of the sheer portability and ease of use. It's just so convenient!
DISPLAY: Boy the display is awesome. I think Best Buy has the listing wrong at the time of writing, but this is the 600+ nit Mini-LED Display. It's super bright, it's got amazing contrast, excellent color gamut, the dimming algorithm is better than the 2023 Flow or 2023 Zephyrus M16 (despite the G14 having less dimming zones), and it's got the advantage over other mini-LED laptops from other brands in having a single-zone dimming switch, which is excellent for creators. Search "Before You Buy a Mini-LED Laptop" on YouTube to see what I mean. This display is just buttery smooth, vibrant, and bright - I love it.
PERFORMANCE: This little 125-watt 4090 is no joke. You absolutely can put a 4090 in a 14" laptop and watch it fly. So yeah think like 3080-desktop levels of performance in a tiny package. It can be stretched to near 3090-desktop levels with some overclocking or a vbios swap/thermal repaste for the more tech-savvy out there. It will handle any AAA game you throw at it and then some. The Ryzen 7940HS is no slouch either, nearly matching the i9-13900H in most benchmarks and because it's Ryzen, it's more efficient and not as power-hungry, so in games your CPU can be chilling just fine around 20-30 watts while the GPU gets the priority it needs. This is why this G14 is seen nearly matching or even passing the 4090 Zephyrus M16 in some games even though that one has a 150-watt GPU. It's just that Intel CPU on that one needs more wattage to achieve the same level of performance, which holds back the GPU a bit. So yeah, this thing is an absolute monster. People will try to hate that it's a "gimped" chip in this chassis, but I'd have to disagree. You're getting mind-boggling performance out of a laptop that is almost half the size of these other 4090 laptops out there. And it even passes some of them in its Balanced mode and Silent mode, where fans are cut back a bit but it still somehow achieves insane performance (the only laptop I've found that beats it in Balanced/Silent is the Razer Blade 16).
FAN NOISE: A great part of this machine is that the 4090 actually doesn't run too hot and the fans aren't super loud either. Even in Turbo mode, this laptop is hitting around 50 dB which is about the same as the much thicker Legion Pro 7i. In Silent mode it's whisper quiet while still offering great performance. For browsing and simple tasks the fans will literally just be off while the magnesium chassis keeps things cooler than others like the Blade, so you can comfortably use this on your lap. You can easily run silent mode in games while scoring way above the Razer Blade 14 4070 in its max performance mode! You can also disable CPU boost for a more stable experience in Silent mode. I've also recommended people stay on BIOS 306 since that one seems to have the best-performing silent mode. Search the G14 subreddit for more info there.
BATTERY: This is where the G14 really shines is having much better battery life than its 4090 counterparts out there. As far as I know, this is the only 4090 laptop that can also easily grant you 8+ hours of battery. That's about what I got in a typical YouTube playback test.
MISC: There is a great Armoury Crate alternative called G-Helper that can also help you get the most out of this machine. It features additional customization and hotkey options for Fn Lock, your dimming switch, disabling CPU boost (recommended in Silent mode), and much more.
So yeah, this might be my favorite laptop of 2023. While the 4090 is still stupid expensive, this one comes in cheaper than the competition while having a great selection of other features like the mini-LED panel, great keyboard, glass trackpad, great battery life, class-leading performance for 14" devices, great fan tuning, and its just insanely compact while not being "too" small to game on. As much as I want to like that bit of extra performance from 175-watt GPU laptops, I just can't help but reach for the G14 every time.

I have to give this thing 5 stars. Its got aesthetics, game performance, and the screen is excellent. The total package.
I recommend doing a fresh Windows install when you get it to get rid of the Asus bloatware. For this you'll want to follow a guide and remember to select English (World) for your language. Remember to grab the drivers, specifically the WiFi driver before you do this and load it onto your installation media. GHelper is also a key install (instead of Asus Armoury Crate).
I own a LGCX 48 inch 120Hz OLED TV that I use as a monitor, also own the LG 240Hz OLED monitor. This screen is a great IPS MiniLED HDR screen!
The sale price is probably the right price, would not buy it at MSRP.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus 14" is an absolute powerhouse in a compact form. With a Ryzen 9 processor and an NVIDIA RTX 4090, it delivers desktop-level performance for gaming and multitasking. The sleek design, brilliant Mini-LED display, and impressive battery life make it a standout. Remarkably quiet fans, even under load, and its portability make it a versatile choice. While it's on the pricey side, this laptop offers unparalleled value, making it my top pick for 2023. I got this as an open box for $600 off MSRP. Its a powerful machine for the form factor. Hitting 90fps on most AAA games on Ultra settings. The battery is a little lacking but that's to be expected and is manageable with adjusting the settings. The screen is amazing! I got my new laptop in 2 days after I placed my order instead of the weekly shipment. It arrived with a dusty touch and feel. I can only guess this item has been sitting on the shelf for some time. This laptop is an almost desktop like replacement. I cant handle a laptop being greater than 15 inchs-defeats the purpose. The keyboard looks like it was ripped off a 15inch laptop and pasted together with this 14 inch screen. Mini led brings the screen to life. Oled are not preferrable regardless of the faster response -thats for tv's- so I went went with this 2023 model instead of the 2024 model. Looking forward to a great trade in offer on 2025-2026 model as Iike to upgrade my laptop every 3-4 years. Slightly pricy -$2499.99 would be the perferred price at the time of this review.
