Customers appreciate the ROG Zephyrus G14's impressive performance, long battery life, and its compact, lightweight design, making it highly portable. Many also praise the build quality and powerful GPU. However, some users express concerns regarding the device's tendency to overheat, the keyboard backlight, and the noticeable fan noise. The lack of a webcam is another frequently cited drawback.

Great Laptop with just a few issues

Really great laptop, but there are a few things that drive me crazy.
No webcam.
Bottom of laptop is plastic and not metal like the rest of the chassis. Display is only average and doesn't feel like a 120Hz panel.
Keyboard back light is the worst on any laptop every made.
The USB type A ports are on the right and in the way if you use an external mouse.
The Good things...
Fast Processor which is great for my audio work with all the VSTs in a live band setting for streaming.
GPU is really decent for the size of the laptop.
The laptop is really portable not some huge brick.
Battery life for normal office tasks is amazing.
Not really anything else in the price range that I can run Reaper and Adobe products on that is this fast. The M1 Macbook has way too much latency for live audio applications and the GPU is trash, plus less ram and SSD space for projects.
The newer G15 is better all around and the M16 that is coming out is awesome, but both are significantly more expensive.

Great small machine

ROG is typically marketed as a gaming line, and this machine certainly is capable of that. However, it's also good as a high powered portable laptop in general even if you don't use the discrete graphics.
For its size, this laptop has incredible power, good battery life when on power saving mode, and is very compact and light. It rivals some Ultrabooks in the latter category, but packs in a lot of features most don't have (very high power CPU, 120 Hz refresh screen, etc).
Out of box, it performs very well and has good components including a 1 TB SSD (Intel 660p). Though it's a Max-Q version, the RTX 2060 performs very well due mainly to the fact that the machine actually has decent thermals for a gaming laptop.
Cons: no webcam, the backlighting on the keyboard is not great, and the speakers are just okay.
If you can deal without the webcam, which is probably the biggest downside I can see with this machine, it's a great pick. For the cost you're getting a really powerful device with really no compromises in build quality or components.

This machine is an absolute beast! I havent tried gaming on it, really dont have the time. However, Im sure it will handle nearly every title well... Personally I'll always take a desktop over a laptop for gaming though.
Use case - I run a small buiness, and im planning a vacation. I have nearly 150 tabs open in chrome.. I have NO resorce issues. I might consider upgrading the RAM in the future as i typcially exhasut RAM resources quickly.
CONs - Honestly non-It barely gets hot, Ive had not BSOD's or system hangups, its beem a dream to use
Pro's - Its just a best, Smooth, responsive, lightweight, crisp images, decent sound (but could be better... but i could use a speaker or headsets if i needed easily) Good keyboard, thin, runs cool, rarely ramps up the fans, CPU is amaizing!!!!!!! Just wow!!!
For the price I highly reccomend.. I dont think you can beat it. Especially if it dips into the sub 1200 range, grap it up as fast as possible.

As someone who reads reviews for information but never writes one, i decided to share my personal, straight forward opinion on this laptop.
Quite simply, you are getting a powerful gaming laptop and a mobile work station all in one. You can read the hardware list for yourself, but i have found it excels at everything i need it to do. The screen looks great, it plays any game i have tried wonderfully with ease and it is fast and snappy with ample battery life.
The same cons have been discussed in every review i have read and for the most part they are true but definitely not a deal breaker in any capacity. Is the keyboard lighting bad? Yes, the color and back lighting were a bad choice, no doubt about it. But it types great. The key travel is one of the most comfortable laptops i have ever typed on. Are there some weird setting and updates that need to be sorted out when you first get it? Yes, but this is a brand new product that is getting plenty of support and i personally didn't find any of the little tweaks needed to be that big a deal. There is no camera, but honestly i never use one as i have a decent smart phone. The fans run even when idle but are very quiet unless gaming, in which case they can rev up quite high. But what gamer isn't using a head set and what did you expect when you have this much power in this slim a device?
Nothing in this world is perfect. If you want to game competitively, buy a powerful gaming desktop. If you want perfect battery life and efficiency for work and don't mind the price tag, buy a MacBook. If you want a portable, powerful laptop for the right price, i strongly urge you to consider this one. You more than likely wont regret it.

As a mechanical and computer science student, I can recommend this laptop so far.
+Battery crazy long +Love the screen +Keyboard is great, backlight not at all, it has to be dark to be functional +Performance is good +Style is not gamer like! I love it, it seems professional and I would not be ashamed of it at ALL. +Speakers...Oh my goooood +It is quite and cool under normal use (Zoom calls, movies, research)
-It is loud when you push it, of course, it's normal -It does get hot, 87-95 F when using demanding CPU and GPU tasks, then it cools down after a little while, it is expected, it is super thin and light. However, you can style type and use it with no problem. -Backlight, it is not the end of the world tho -Fingerprint reader only recognize perfectly my thumb for some reason
Overall, I still recommend it all the way (So far). I will update if I change my mind but so far, I am satisfied.

I recently bought this laptop for use at school for music production as well as pretty heavy gaming at home.
Pros
- Very good performance for price and size
- Lightweight and very easy to take around
- Very good build quality and keyboard is very well laid out
- Screen is contrasty and bright
- Speakers are loud with surprisingly good quality
- Battery lasts for a long time even when doing light gaming and can make it through any work day.
Cons
- Definitely tends to get pretty hot unless you do some unofficial fixes to stop boost clocking
- Also has some problems with coil whine but it's generally not an issue
Overall this laptop gets the job done extremely well and really trucks through any situation or task I put it through. A good buy even off sale and trumps the competition.

Before I start this review I would like to point out that I'm not super tech savvy, but I do enjoy playing games which is what I use this computer for. I primarily play fps, and it runs silky smooth. The compact chassis is convenient on the go, which is sort of the point of getting a gaming laptop. The battery life is also solid. I do have a few minor qualms with this computer. First, it runs pretty hot, but this is not major given that I still get good performance and decent temps after underckocking my cpu and gpu. Second, the backlighting on the keyboard is very uneven. Third, and possibly the most annoying is that armoury crate (ASUS ROGs system manager) has a designated key on the keyboard, but it doesn't always work, so I have to search the program to open it. Overall still a really good laptop.

Thin and light, great battery life, incredible CPU performance, and the 2060 GPU will last a long time for 1080p gaming. The build quality is solid - you really get what you pay for with this machine. The audio is the best I have ever heard on a laptop. This is a very nice, highly mobile laptop with good thermals and more power than any of the alternatives even close to its price range. It's perfect for productivity and can play most games at medium to high (ultra) settings and 1080p. The Ryzen crushes any multi-core items you can throw at it.
A couple of tips;
1. Turn on Dolby. Seriously, just do this.
2. Update all the drivers.
3. Leave the boost alone.
Downsides;
1. Inconstant back-lighting on the keyboard. Mine was ok, but some have been horrible. Check before you do anything else.
2.It doesn't have a webcam.

powerful compact device with minor shortcomings

This device is great for the form factor and ridiculously powerful plays almost all games with no problem typing is a joy. The mouse pad on the device is great a little small but works like a charm. The few minor gripes would have to be the omission of a webcam which isn't really justified because there is enough room for one. However, I got a cheap usb webcam that is way better than any webcam that i've had on a laptop so that issue was solved the backlight on the keyboard was a bit weird and turning it on actually made it harder to see the keys but an update was recently pushed out to address that so far so good. The fan is always on but with a few tweaks it runs fairly quite given its form factor don't be alarmed if the fan starts going full speed when you plug it in to charge even if you aren't doing anything intensive a few tweaks to the power plan and boost mode helps quiet it down enough. Overall it is an awesome machine that can handle anything you can throw at it without being heavy and bulky. One point to note is that the screen response time isnt the greatest so if you are a hardcore gamer I would look into that before buying this device.

Fit and finish are top notch, even the packaging i was impressed with. It is a very powerful gaming computer and affordable compared to many others. There are a lot of features packed into a small package but i would agree with many others that it does run hot when gaming and the fans are running a bit loud but not terrible and hey if that is keeping it cool and working good then let them run!!! I also agree about the keyboard it is nearly impossible to see at night when in low lighting as when gaming. A colored back lit keyboard would have been better than just clear white. Again if these are my only complaints and the computer lasts then it was a great deal, but only time will tell.

The Asus Zephyrus G14 comes with an AMD Ryzen 9 4900HS which tops most of the laptop benchmark lists. The dedicated graphics card is an Nvidia RTX 2060 which is able to give good FPS at 1080p with all features ON. Battery life is excellent for a gaming laptop, you should be able to get 8 hours on standard tasks. The laptop is light and portable so you can take it anywhere. Build quality is good. The keyboard and trackpad are responsive and feel good. I like that the screen lifts the body of the laptop up to allow airflow and a better typing position. A few cons, first no webcam, and second the fans are loud. All in all the performance to dollar ratio is solid. I highly recommend this laptop to part-time gamers and programs.

This is an excellent laptop for work and play. I bought this for my son for his school work and so he could game and use his VR. The laptop is very solid and premium, but also very portable. 120hz screen is very good and has a matte finish. Viewing angles could be better but it looks good. Keyboard typing is excellent, backlight not so much - but not a big deal. Lots of modes for extending battery life when away from the charger. The laptop is a beast of performance, but the fans do get loud. Thankfully they are not high-pitched so it's not too annoying. The chassis does get hot while gaming. He is able to connect his VR quest without issues, play any game on high settings and it can also game in 4k with an external monitor.

The good:
I got this computer because I needed something that could game and also do work, and I got exactly that. This is an absolute powerhouse, and it is stunning that they were able to fit all of this hardware in a laptop. It can run intensive games with no problem.
A lot of reviews talk about the slow screen response time but I haven't seen it in my unit, and I can't even tell that there is a response time at all.
The keyboard quality is good, it feels nice.
The screen quality is very good.
The bad:
A random popping noise will sometimes (1-2 times a day) come out of nowhere, but this isn't a deal-breaker for me because my phone does the same thing and its easy to ignore.
The keyboard backlighting is bad, but not completely useless. You just have to turn it off in a light environment to it wastes battery for no real purpose.
I found a dead pixel on my unit, which isn't a deal-breaker for me because usually, it's not noticeable, but the Asus warranty only kicks in if there are 3 dead pixels or more which is kind of annoying
Some tweaks are required to make it optimal like disabling boost, and this is easy to do with tutorials online
The fans are noisy at idle, and there is a weird high-pitched whining noise that is noticeable in quiet environments, which gets annoying after a while.
Overall, this is an amazing powerhouse with a few quirks that you need to be willing and ready to deal with and adapt to. Also keep in mind that I have one of the march batch, and I hear that the backlighting is a lot better on the newer versions.

I’ve owned this laptop for about a year, and it has treated me extremely well. I bought it to use at school instead of their assigned chromebooks, and to do some gaming if i was away from my desktop, and it exceeded my expectations at both.
First, the build quality is amazing, it is very sturdy for its size, the chassis is made from rigid magnesium and aluminum, and has virtually no flex. The lid is made out of plastic, but it is high quality, and the screen does not have much bend to it. The hinge is very smooth, and the strength is basically perfect, it isn’t too hard or too easy to open.
The performance is out of this world for a laptop this small, i ran some benchmarks on multiple games and softwares, including cinebench R15, and the 4900hs is about equal with a desktop ryzen 5 3600, and the 2060 max-q performance is about the level of a desktop gtx 1660ti. (Do note that i have replaced the thermal paste with thermal grizzly liquid metal, and set a more aggressive fan curve when gaming).
The battery life is stellar. If the power profile is set to silent mode through armory crate, the 2060 is manually turned off in device manager, the keyboard backlight is turned off and the brightness at about half, you will get the advertised 10 hours of battery life. Otherwise, if it’s just set to normal power profile with the 2060 and keyboard backlight on, you will get about 5 maybe 6 hours of battery life. It charges very fast when using the included power brick, and can go from dead to full in an hour or two. I haven’t tried charging it via usb-c yet.
The screen has decent brightness, fairly accurate colors, though i haven’t tuned it in to my liking so it has more potential than what you get out of the box. It is 120hz so it looks buttery smooth, but it does have some imput lag that is noticeable when playing games, this can be mostly resolved by enabling Nvidia REFLEX in the Nvidia control panel though.
The keyboard feels very tactile, and the key stroke distance feels very nice to me, and has a bit of a more “bump” feel when pressing it than a “click”, this has been beneficial for me when working in a quiet classroom, but it may not suite everyones tastes. The backlight of the keyboard is average at best, it seems like it’s just a basic light array underneath the keys, and doesn’t light up the letters the best, but it does work very well in low light, and it’s faults are more noticeable in the light.
The port selection Asus chose is decent, but I wish the usb-a ports were placed on the left instead of the right, because when using a plug in mouse and headset the plugs get in the way of your hand.
Overall, this laptop is amazing, and the value for what you get is almost unbeatable. I would highly highly recommend this laptop if you need something that’s ultra portable and powerful. One of the best tech purchases I’ve made. If i could rate it out of 10, id give it a 9, only because of the keyboard backlight being meh, the screen being a bit small for my taste, and the usb port location, but the tradeoff for the performance and quality is definitely worth it. If you’ve been looking at buying a gaming laptop, I would highly recommend this or rather the newest model with a ryzen 5900hs and 3060 max-q, which I’ve found to be between 11%-20% faster than my previous gen model.

Highly recommended. Possibly the best mid-range gaming laptop available (until the models with RTX 3060 are released). I've been really happy with it. So much better in every way than my last gaming laptop (Alienware 13 r3).
Pro:
Fastest movie processor of its generation, even faster than the i9 in most tests.
Great GPU with the RTX 2060, plays cyberpunk at 60 fps no problem on pretty high settings.
RTX so you get ray tracing if you don't mind the performance hit.
Super light.
Amazing battery life.
Nice keyboard.
Finger print reader.
Not too small, not too big.
Incredible value even at full price.
Cons:
No webcam.
Wimpy compared to soon to be released model with RTX 3060 and new ryzen.

This laptop is great! The graphics are nice and the build quality is superb. I really like how the white cover lid looks. Keyboard feels nice. Although the keyboard backlight is garbage, I turn it off. You actually can see the keys better with the backlight off! Lol. No webcam but I don’t care about that. But I realize some people may care due to all the web meetings that are performed in 2020. Another con people may see from this computer is that the fans can get loud! But what do you expect when you need to cool off an Nvidia 2060. So it doesn’t matter to me that much.
Overall I think this Asus PC looks and performs great! I recommend as a great little gaming/streaming machine.

The good: Has unbelievable power with a small footprint. Imagine maxing out some triple A titles at 120hz in something that can fit in a small backpack or shoulder bag. The design of the lid is nice. Keyboard and trackpad have pretty good response, has two usb c and two usb A ports, SSD is M.2
The bad: The fans are loud when gaming and the keyboards white backlighting makes it harder to see the keys. Fingerprint sensor doesn’t work well. No webcam.

The Best Laptop I've Ever Bought

This is the first gaming laptop I ever bought, so my expectations were high going in. I've seen countless YouTube videos about this laptop, so I already had a pretty good idea of what to expect when I bought it. But actually using it is a wonderful experience. It's just so dang fast, the size is perfect for me, and the power it's rocking is just insane. Every game I've played on it ran like butter on this laptop, which blows my mind (Granted I don't play that many games on PC to begin with, but still). The keyboard is really good, although the backlight on the white model that I bought could be a bit brighter given how bright the keys themselves already are (And the lack of page up and page down bothered me more than I thought it did), and I like that the power button doubles as a fingerprint sensor (Plus it was better than I expected. Not the most accurate, but better than my last laptop. So that's a bonus). The lack of a webcam doesn't bother me at all cause I barely do video calls to begin with, and I just use my iPad for those anyway. The trackpad is great, about as good as it gets for a Windows laptop. Speakers are way better than I expected, which was a pleasant surprise! Battery life is okay though, which is typical for a gaming laptop, but I don't even get close to the claimed 10 hours of battery life. For me, I average around 4-7 hours between charges, and that's with light to moderate work. If I push it any harder, and the battery life just won't keep up. And the laptop does get a bit on the toasty side when under load, even with the fans at max. It's not uncomfortably hot, but it's noticeably warmer than most other laptops I've used. On the flipside, the hinge design that lifts the laptop slight is definitely effective for cooling, and not once have I encountered any thermal throttling on this machine, which is very impressive for a gaming laptop of this size. It might seem expensive, but the power to value of this thing is just nuts, and I have no issue whatsoever recommending this thing. I think people are going to love it if they do buy it. I sure do.

Perfect laptop for gaming and for work. AMD Ryzen 9 CPU is a barn burner, it's really fast. 16GB of RAM and 1TB SSD storage allows me to get lots of multitasking, productivity, and work done. Gaming performance with the RTX 2060 is awesome, I am able to run Overwatch with high enough FPS to take advantage of the 120hz refresh rate of the screen.
All in all, this is the perfect balance of size, portability, power, and battery life for a multi-tasking laptop that you can work and game on while on the go.

"No Compromises" Is a marketing term that gets thrown around way to much, but I think applies more here than most other cases with a single caveat. Overall it feels solidly built and packs a lot of performance into a small form-factor with the battery to back it up.
CPU: Best performance currently available from a mobile chip. Even bests many modern desktop chips.
GPU: It is a 2060 MaxQ. Cooling is good enough to keep it going. Not much else to be said
Cooling: Mobile chips always run hotter than their desktop counterparts so that is expected. The cooling is good and is effective at pulling heat off the chips. The fan is pretty much always running, but at idle it is pretty quiet and not a distraction. But when you use high performance mode, those fans really ramp up. But for my usage i would gladly take the trade off of some noise for sustained high performance.
The battery life is also superb. For basic web browsing and media playback it is not hard to exceed 10 hours. Just don't expect to game on battery for more than a couple hours max as with any laptop. With support for charging over USB-C, it travels well and can charge from a good phone charger or power bank.
With the SSD this machine is super quick to boot and feels snappy
I use mine a lot for powering VR on a valve index for Beat Saber and can't notice much difference from my desktop. For the price range especially, you would be hard pressed to find equivalent performance, battery, and connectivity in such a compact package. The only flaw to this machine is the keyboard back lighting. It is somewhat uneven and in a lighted environment, looks better with it off.
