It’s nice to have a laptop with the speed and storage for photo editing

Laptop keeps crashing with BSoD or just completely freezes if I run it in any mode except Ultimate Performance mode. Seems like an issue with the Integrated GPU. I have spent the whole week trying everything to fix this issue and have come to the conclusion it is a hardware problem with the Integrated GPU on the Processor.
I would try to exchange the laptop for a different one without issues but the laptop is not even in stock, so I don't have that option. Talked to Best Buy support and the only option is to get a refund, exchange for a different in stock laptop, or wait and hope this laptop is in stock again for an exchange.
I really wanted to like this laptop and I could just run it in Ultimate Performance mode as a work around but I should not have to do that for a laptop this expensive.

It's a great notebook, best form factor for light gaming and beautiful screen. Don't get fooled, the hinges are terrible. Touching or lifting up the notebook results in squeaks and it sounds like it's falling apart. This thing is a flagship notebook for over three grand and the build quality is garbage. Congrats Asus on such a bad job
Thank you for sharing your experience with the ASUS GU605CW gaming laptop. We’re pleased to hear you appreciate the notebook’s form factor and display, but we’re truly sorry to learn about the concerns with the hinge quality. I've been using the ROG Zephyrus G16 for about two weeks now, primarily for gaming. In that time, I’ve been able to test its performance on a range of titles, and while it generally performs well, there have been some issues worth mentioning.
The higher-range specs provide solid performance for most tasks, especially gaming. Frame rates are high, and the games I've tested have run smoothly for the most part. However, there have been some stuttering and freezing issues with applications, where they temporarily freeze for a few seconds. This is an unfortunate but occasional issue, and I’m hopeful it will be addressed in future driver updates.
In terms of design, the Zephyrus G16 does a great job balancing style and functionality. The build quality is solid, and it manages to stay sleek and relatively lightweight and thin compared to other gaming laptops. It doesn't feel bulky, which makes it more portable and less cumbersome for travel or use in different environments.
The OLED display is a major highlight of the G16. The color accuracy is impressive, and the 240Hz refresh rate makes for a very responsive experience overall. The screen is vibrant and sharp, making it a great setup for pretty much any task.
When it comes to the keyboard and trackpad, they are functional but not exceptional. The keyboard feels standard for a gaming laptop, providing adequate travel and responsiveness. The trackpad, while serviceable, doesn’t offer anything particularly noteworthy compared to others in its class.
Temperatures have been decent, but during extended gaming sessions, the temperature does rise noticeably. The fans remain relatively quiet under lighter loads but become quite loud when switched to higher performance modes. While not a dealbreaker, it’s something to consider if you plan on using the laptop for long periods in performance-heavy applications.
Battery life is another area that could use improvement. I’ve found that under light to moderate use, it lasts around 3 hours from a full charge, which is to be expected with specifications of this caliber. Heavy use, such as gaming, further drains the battery in a short time, as is common among almost all gaming laptops.
One notable concern is that the 50-series GPUs are still undergoing frequent driver updates, so there are occasional software-related issues. The out-of-the-box experience was typical for a Windows laptop, with no major hurdles or surprises during setup.
In terms of value, the ROG Zephyrus G16 is on the pricier side, but its performance is hard to match. For anyone who needs the power of a gaming laptop but also wants the capability to use studio applications on the go, this device offers something unique. If you're willing to invest in the high-end specs, it’s definitely worth considering, especially for those needing portable, high-performance computing.

Initial impressions of this gaming laptop were not good, let me explain why.
When I first set up the G16 I was really excited. This pc has some very impressive specs on paper, and I couldn’t wait to see how it performed. I have used another competitor laptop that has a 4080 card in it, and I was getting around 230FPS using “Extreme” settings, “DLSS Up scaler” and “DLSS AI Frame Generation” in COD Black Ops 6. So, when I saw the new 5080 card was being put in a laptop, I was like this is going to be crazy.
Fast forward to the day I opened the laptop and installed all of my games and applications. This took a few hours, which also added to the build up of excitement as I anticipated an amazing experience. Well, upon starting the game I was only getting about 120FPS on “Extreme” settings, “DLSS Up scaler”, and “DLSS AI Frame Generation”. I said to myself, how can this be? How can a laptop with a 4080 card perform 2x better than a current generation, updated series graphics card? I was stumped and COMPLETELY let down. I checked all of the settings and reinstalled the graphics driver, made sure windows was 100% up to date, and kept changing settings in the game to see if I could get any more performance out of this laptop.
After days of testing and research I found out what was going on. You see this laptop is very light and thin and so to maintain performance and the form factor of this specific computer, ASUS has LIMITED the “TGP” which is the Total Graphic Power. Basically the 5080 card in this laptop is handicapped to about half of the performance it is capable of. Once I found this out, I was really upset. I mean I completely understand now why it was necessary to do this, as allowing the GPU to use more power would also mean the laptop would need a bigger cooling system, and a bigger chassis to handle the increased performance which would all lead to a much heavier laptop.
If you’re still reading this I need to explain why if I was to do it all again, I would not spend the amount of money ASUS is asking for this laptop. You see I believe they have used the 5080 card to give a false sense of performance. Typically, when you’re using an “80 series card” you know your pretty much guaranteed to have really good FPS and amazing performance. But with this laptop I have been lucky to get 140 FPS and that’s using all the Up scalers and Frame Generation tools within the game. Without those I get around 70-80 FPS. Really not great at all.
I have also had high latency issues with the GPU during a few games that basically caused frame rates to drop, and stuttering/hitching to occur and that is not something you expect to happen with a computer of this spec level and price level. I hope that because this is a new series GPU NVIDIA will come out with performance updates via driver releases in the coming future. As of now I am just not impressed. I would expect the level of performance out of this laptop to be on a 5060 series card. That’s the truth.
I do want to review the hardware of this laptop as I do believe this was done correctly.
The build quality of the laptop seems very good. The laptop seems to be built with aluminum, and the design is very nice. The lid has a “Slash” LED light that can be customized with a bunch of presets that ASUS provides. I usually keep it off when on battery and on steady when plugged in. I do like the way it looks.
The keyboard if probably one of the best I have used so far and I applaud ASUS for using such a high quality keyboard. The travel and feel are very nice and it has a backlight that the color can also be changed via the “Armory Crate” application.
The trackpad is very large and responsive. I have had no issues with tracking or button presses, however there is a little bit of play with the trackpad when you rest your finger on it before you make a button press. This isn’t a deal breaker, but I expect better for the price. They should have made the trackpad haptic, and this would have solved the problem.
The speakers and sound are also very good. I’ve listened to hours of music on them, and they always sound clear, loud and concise. They have decent bass and clear mids and highs. No issues at all with the speakers, especially with a laptop of this size.
The 16” OLED 240hz display is beautiful. This is my first laptop with an OLED and everything that is displayed on this screen is just bright, clear, crisp and just so nice to look at. The super-fast refresh rate is of course for the gaming side of this laptop and it does not disappoint. Gaming on this screen is exactly what you would expect, brilliant and super enjoyable.
Battery life on this laptop really depends on how you’re going to use it. Most of the time I am plugged in so it doesn’t really matter that much to me, but for those who would want to use this as a normal laptop when they are not gaming on it, you would want to ensure that you switch the performance mode to “Silent” and make sure your screen refresh rate is set to 60hz and NOT 240hz, and also that the current GPU is the Integrated Graphics Card. If you do that you should be able to get about 6-7 hours with light use. It can work for you if you mess around with the settings to suit your needs.
All in all there are so many things I could list that were done right, but it is a gaming laptop and I am just not impressed.

The ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 is an incredible gaming laptop that combines top-tier performance with a sleek and portable design. It’s one of the lightest and slimmest in its class and the 16-inch OLED display boasts a 2.5k resolution with a 240 Hz refresh rate. It consistently delivers vibrant colors and smooth visuals which is great for gaming, graphics, photography, and cinematography.
My biggest concern is the Intel Core Ultra 9 processor, which has a bit of a reputation of excessive heating. I mean it’s a desktop class CPU with 16 cores, but I am worried about the poor heat management. ASUS designed a revolutionary heating dissipation system, but I really thing the Intel i9 out-paces it.
Aside from the CPU concerns, this sleek laptop sports a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5080 Laptop GPU, complemented by 32 GB of RAM and a 2 TB SSD. This bad boy can handle demanding games like Monster Hunter Wilds on ULTRA without any stuttering. Other games like Expedition 33 and Oblivion Remaster are also running flawlessly, which is expected from a “desktop class” laptop.
The battery life is impressive for a gaming laptop, getting about 4.5-5 hours on the highest settings during gaming, but I think the best option is to always be plugged in for long gaming sessions.
Overall, the ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 offers an excellent blend of performance, portability, and design, making it ideal for gamers and creative users.

I've owned dozens of laptops over the last 15 years. This one is the best yet. It's high-end in every regard. The two stand out things for those who are impatient or don't want to read the details - First - I could run every game I tried at full resolution and UItra graphics settings and still get liquid-smooth framerates. Second - the sound is the best I've heard from a laptop.
The Intel Core i9 Ultra CPU, Nvidia 16GB RTX 5080, 32GB of RAM, and fast Gen4 nVme 2TB SSD combine to eliminate just about every possible performance bottleneck. The display is gorgeous, sharp and bright with a 240Hz refresh rate - just stunning. The trackpad is big and works great. The keyboard is maybe a little smaller than some others in order to allow for large top-mounted speakers but that did not bother me at all. The keyboard backlighting is the best I've seen, with only a tiny bit of light bleed around the keys, keeping things very legible.
There are 4 USB ports. 2 USB C and 2 10Gb/s USB-A. Plus HDMI and an SD card reader. The laptop body and lid are metal and very well finished. Definitely gives a super-premium feel. There is a customizable lighting "slash" that goes across the outside of the lid. Changing it's appearance is easy and it can be programmed to show various system status things. For me, I turned it off for now because the light reflecting off the window behind my desk made the slash distracting.
Besides using this laptop for gaming, I also use it to run AutoCAD and this machine tears through that effortlessly. Overall this is a great laptop and while not inexpensive the extreme level of performance it offers will keep it useable for many years.

Same laptop as last year but equipped with a higher graphics card. Still the same beautiful oled screen with gorgeous color gambit. The 2tb ssd gives more than enough space to store my games along with 32gb of ram for gaming optimizations and a RYX 5080 gpu. This laptop really can do it all and is a beast when it comes to gaming. The 1 gripe I still have is how hot it gets when gaming. Luckily I have a cooling pad that has 9 fans and I can adjust the speed to dissipate the heat and keep the laptop cool! I would recommend a cooling pad for any gaming laptop but due to how much heat this laptop gives off you’ll definitely want to invest in one. I tested a couple of games at Ultra settings to which I didn’t have any problems at all. They all ran smoothly in my experience. Black Ops 6 had no tearing or stuttering whatsoever as the same with Diablo 4. Diablo 4 actually ran cooler than Black Ops 6 though but again that’s what the cooling pad is for. The build of the laptop is still pretty sturdy with the aluminum chassis. The speakers still sound amazing and the track pad and keyboard still feel pretty good. Ausus always seems to stay in line and have new features here and there with their laptops every year but you can always count on them to make great products. The price may be a little high for some consumers but it’s justified by the fact that it’s a quality product that you can rely on and can do everything you want it to. I would definitely recommend this laptop to any hardcore gamers that are always on the go traveling around the world for your job or even just for leisure activities. Great job Asus! You never fail to amaze me!

The Asus ROG Zephyrus G16, model# GU605CW, is an all-around great laptop that is a more than capable gaming laptop with only a few minor issues, at least in my opinion. In the latest iteration of the G16 Asus has made some great improvements and with the newest hardware from NVIDIA and Intel this is the best of the best ROG Zephyrus G16.
The large 16" screen size with a 2.5K 240Hz OLED makes this a beautiful laptop to look and play on. With crisp colors and great frame rates and a GPU that can actually drive those frame rates, the G16 looks amazing.
Customizable keypad and "slash" lighting allows you to customize the physical looks of the laptop allowing you to show off your style. I prefer a laptop that doesn't scream "gaming laptop" and with some customization of the lighting the G16 fits the bill. The style and relatively subdued looks of this laptop make it look great.
There is a decent amount of peripheral connections, but I do wish there were more USB ports. With HDMI, headphone and mic, SD card, 2x USB A, and 2x USB C ports there are multiple connection options and most people won't even need to add dongles or hubs to get the connectivity that they need. My only real complaint is I wish there were a few more USB A ports, but that is just a personal preference for me and not the reason why I took one star off my rating.
The reason for taking a star off is the keypad and trackpad, both are pretty subpar for this level of laptop and I feel like they make the experience less than enjoyable. If you use an external mouse and keyboard than none of these issues will affect you, but if you often use the laptop keyboard and trackpad the G16 is extremely disappointing. The trackpad is entirely too large and ends up under your palm while typing or gaming, it has decent palm rejection, but it is not a good experience constantly having your wrists on the trackpad seam. The keyboard is not objectively bad, but it also does not feel great for this level of laptop I would expect much better, it just feels a bit mushy to me and is not a great experience. These are fairly minor complaints and I think in most laptops I would ignore them or expect them, but for such a premium laptop I really do expect better at this level.
Regardless of my issues with the keyboard and trackpad, this is still a great laptop and I would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a premium gaming laptop.

The Asus ROG Zephyrus 16 is a beautifully thin and capable laptop. This is a gaming machine stuffed into a portable, everyday use chassis that is easy to take with you and if you turn off the light strip on the back, it is easy to conceal the fact that it is a gaming monster. The Zephyrus that I have boasts an unbelievably good 16 inch screen with a 240 Hz refresh rate that makes just about anything you do on it look silky smooth. The graphics card is an RTX 5080 that just about handles anything the casual gamer could throw at it. It’s not going to give the frame rates that a 5090 card would on ultra levels, but I have been running everything on high and ultra high and haven’t noticed any stuttering or low frame rates in any of the first person shooters that I tend to play. One thing to mention though is that the Asus ROG Zephyrus uses a lower wattage on the 5080 than some of its competitors. This does affect performance some, but not much. The benefit seems to be longer battery life and less heat. Less heat translates into less fan noise. Which brings me to another point. I have seen people complaining about fan noise, but I have not experienced any excessive noise in the time I have used this laptop. I run this machine in performance mode all the time while plugged in and it automatically switched to silent mode on battery, but noise has not been an issue for me. It is much quieter than my Asus ROG Strix 18 from 2024. Maybe one reason I don’t notice the fans is the excellent sound quality and volume the Asus is able to reproduce. The speakers on this laptop are just fabulous with a rich, full sound from a small package. I find myself using it to stream music while I am working on other things around the house and have not been disappointed. Asus chose to use the Intel 285H CPU in this laptop. It tends to rule in single core processing, but does lag behind AMD when multi-core processing is tested. In real life, I don’t know that it makes much of a difference. This processor has run well in games and with Adobe products rendering videos and messing around with photos, just to see if I could make it stutter. I think this was the right choice for this laptop. It runs great, is fairly efficient and seems to not get to hot. The highest temperature I have seen is 60 degrees Celsius which is fine. I have not had issues with the top of the laptop getting extremely hot, however, it does get very warm when it is pushed hard for extended periods. Even though it is very warm, it is not so hot I can’t play. I will be using this laptop as a daily driver. Microsoft office, adobe and games. This laptop has the looks and the ability to do everything that I want it to do and I would certainly choose this computer again if I was in the market.
