Nonexistent Linux support, decent hardware
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It was abysmal setting up all of the drivers on Linux, absolutely excruciating. It's clear that Asus does not have any interest in being rated well by linux users. I've been using linux for 15 years, and have always had a working computer same day. This laptop took 4 days of painful effort to get it working "good enough" which would be unacceptable if it didn't have such a gorgeous display. The audio took a couple of more days to get working, which once I did get the audio working, it has a very refined sound and definitely beats any laptop speakers I've used previously. Literally if it had a less desirable display, this computer would have been immediately exchanged for something that was made by a company holding a higher opinion of their customers.

Light as a Zephyr
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop out of the box is sleek and lightweight. I was expecting a more bland white; however, the platinum white has a nice shine that seems in between a white and silver. The finish appears matte, and does not show my palm sweat from setting my hands to type, which is ideal. I am sure overtime there will be some discoloration of affect, but likely better than that of a black finish. There is a "slash" lighting effect on the back of the display, which is white light and will play various designs able to be controlled through the ASUS control panel. I will admit, I am an RGB lover and would have enjoyed the touch to be able to change color but I appreciate the sleek and clean look associated (and I'm sure it's less obnoxious for people looking). They keyboard at least gives me the RBG fix and that is what I'm looking at. Speaking of keyboard, the mouse pad is large - to put into perspective it is the width of an iPhone 13 length and the height is about 1 inch larger than the iPhone 13 width (could not find a ruler). More than ample space for use with gaming; however, every since OSRS ended I've used a mouse for gaming. The keyboard itself has taken me a little time to get used to, but my fingers have adapted well and the feedback for key clicks in adequate to know you've pressed the key and can move on. There are also 4 programable macro buttons on the top of the laptop, above the function keys which I greatly appreciate having the option for. The speakers are on either side of the keyboard, forward facing. Sound quality is slightly above standard I would say. The laptop has a decent amount of ports, 2 USB-C, 2 USB-A, HDMI port, SD port and a headphone jack if your headphones are from the archaic ages. The charger is different, a connection type I have not previously used; however, the charging brick is small and I do not feel the connection will bend/weaken over time. The only complaint is the length of the charger is shorter than my previous gaming laptop, so I had to move spots on the couch. The size of this laptop is advertised as thin, but this is actually a thin device with the thickness being slightly larger than standard HDMI and USB plug. I find this remarkable for a gaming laptop and is definitely the thinnest/most light weight I have used thus far. The laptop has been able to play everything I have thrown at it with at least standard graphic settings or better keeping 60fps. I have tested BG3, FFXIV, GTA5 without any hitches, hardest part was adjusting the settings for FFXIV because the screen resolution is elite but after some fiddling all is good. The screen has a fantastic brightness to it, which is attribute to the OLED. This is the first OLED screen I have had for a laptop and it is stunning in a casual seated environment. Display is always hard to reiterate over words for me, but while playing games, colors are vibrant and shading fantastic. Blacks have multiple dimensions and even darker cutscenes are crisp. I almost watched that notoriously horrible GoT episode where most TVs failed, but I can't bring myself to relive the season. I bet it would be good though. I have also been using this display for work and the clarity is impressive. I have had the zoom 50% less, seeing much more than compared to at desktop at work but can easily seen the screen from a lap distance. The battery life seems better than a standard for a gaming laptop, lasting around 2-3 hours while gaming and otherwise around 6-7 hours so far when in use for normal tasks. I do not expect much more from such a laptop and the charger lives nearby, I enjoy knowing that I can use the laptop on the go for normal every day tasks without it running out of power quickly. The other aspect which has impressed me the most is the fan/heating of the laptop. Normally I will start up a game and immediately you hear the laptop fan ramp up and the device will run hot. This laptop does a smooth job cooling (with a laptop cooling pad under) to where I actually played for about 30-minutes and did not notice an extreme fan noise one day. I have not experienced where the keyboard has gotten terribly hot otherwise. The fan will run loudly when necessary but is not terribly drowning as my wife hasn't complained yet. WiFi has worked well so far, without any dropping gaming sessions associated. The laptop is lacking an ethernet port, which I do think is worth the thinner design. Otherwise, being a newer Microsoft device there is a Copilot button for AI which the AMD Ryzen AI 9 has one of these newer "Neural Processing Units" that facilitates quick responsiveness. I have had the opportunity to use a Copilot integrated device and although not as nifty with the overlaid utility, still fast processing of requests and I love making images. Overall, I am more impressed that I thought I would be. Recently my desktop computer has given up on me and I was planning to use this more as an improvised device to display on my monitor. Instead, this has become my everyday gaming/chilling device for the couch and my previously used gaming computer has become the fixed device by the monitor. ASUS ROG has done it again with the Zephyrus G16 living up to the name.

Great but too expensive gaming laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great gaming machine, however, I think it's too expensive for what it can provide to you. I would say you should go with something cheaper and with the same internal specs. If you want the premium feel that this laptop provides then it won't be too bad going with this one. Especially if you have the extra cash to burn.

Get a different model
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have had quite a few issues out of this laptop. The wifi after it sleeps often won't connect to wifi when it wakes back up (I have the orbi 970 $1500 3 node network). If I go into device manager and disable and re-enable the wifi adapter it connects (or reboot) Chrome on this computer has a scrolling page issue. It only happens on this laptop. The page looks all broke up and scrolls while part of the page stays put. Sometimes even with cpu use low the mouse and responsiveness will just lock up and move super slow and like the computer is at 100% cpu. For a computer that costs this much I expect less major problems like this. I was very excited and waited about two months for this model to come out but I've been very disappointed.

So far seems like an excellent buy
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. So far I’m very happy with this laptop. Super thin and light for something that handles gaming very well. Playing Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 smoothly and the display is amazing. So far only concern is how hot this runs while gaming. Fans can be a bit noisy but was to be expected. During typical use it runs cool and very quiet.

good but just misses being great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.the good: display - To me, this is the stand out feature on this laptop. Absolutely beautiful OLED screen with a super fast refresh rate (240Hz) and good resolution (2560 x 1600). Just...wow. design - This is a "good" but also a "bad" in my opinion. We just haven't quite figured out how to take care of thermals in a machine this slim, but it is definitely thin and light for what it is and can do. The Nvidia 4070 GPU is somewhat limited by this laptop's ability to cool it. inputs (keyboard/track pad) - Both feel premium, and the glass trackpad is huge, very Macbook Pro-like. Key travel is not bad at all, with full RGB memory (RAM/storage) - This is good but again, also bad. 32GB of DDR5X RAM, which is a lot and pretty dang fast, but it's also soldered to the MB, meaning you can't upgrade it should you ever need to. Not that you really would at 32, but keep this in mind. ports - Nice selection, including full size hdmi 2.1, 2 USB C, 2 USB A, MicroSD card reader the "just ok": gaming performance - Everything else about this laptop is either 5 stars or pretty close to it, but the 4070 is really limiting in my testing. Not "bad", mind you, but certainly not befitting a machine over $2k in my opinion. Still, FPS will likely be fine for all but esports players, so the 240Hz screen is a bit overkill for this card. noisy fan - Again, to be expected in a laptop this thin, but the fan goes into berzerker mode, depending on the workload. A bit annoying if you're gaming w/o headphones, but probably not a huge deal otherwise. on board speakers - They're billed as "Audio Excellence with 6 speaker Atmos". Maybe a bit hyperbole? They don't sound bad by any means, but they are just tiny laptop speakers. There's only so much you can do with such a small space. the bad: temperature - Thermal dissapation is pretty rough, especially on the top of the keyboard chassis, just above the keys. Almost too hot to touch during a gaming session. Luckily everywhere else seems to be just "warm" and not "let's put the kettle on to boil some water for tea." battery life - A victim of the "thin and light" again, only so much you can do with this much space. The battery life is ok, expect maybe 5-6 hours, unless you're gaming, in which case you really should plug into power... overall: Overall it's a decent machine, even better than in some areas. The somewhat crippled 4070 and cooling unfortunately knock one star off for me. Still recommended if your priority is a decent thin and light gaming machine (and otherwise of course, it's still a beast for most activities). 4 stars.

Excellent Machine
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had it a couple weeks and love it. Had an old Thinkpad T430 so jumping from 14 to 16 wasn't a big issue. Plus was only 1/2 inch larger but 1/2 inch slimmer and 2/3lb lighter. I do wish it had a slide/cover for the camera.

Bad thermals
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bad thermals and felt “fragile” due to its minimal design and slim body. Gets to a point of where its extremely uncomfortable to rest your palms and use the keyboard because its burning hot.

Great laptop plagued with sleep issues in BIOS 310
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to start the review off by saying I LOVE this laptop. Everything performs flawlessly when it's on. However, there is a sleep issue that was introduced with BIOS version 310 where the laptop will not wake back up from sleep despite making sure all drivers are up to date. Reverting back to BIOS version 306 resolves the issue for me. ASUS Support has been no help. See my thread on the ROG Forum: https://rog-forum.asus.com/t5/gaming-notebooks/asus-rog-zephyrus-g16-ga605wi-bios-version-310-issues-with/m-p/1083212#M9905
