Zephyrus G16 is a beautiful mess

Owned for 3 months when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This product is supposed to be one of the best laptops you can currently buy but in my experience its a beautifully wrapped glitchy, underperforming, and faulty machine. I bought my Zephyrus G16 AMD 4070 2TB model just back in November 2024 (currently February 2025) and it has not worked to the level of a used $300 laptop since the day i opened it. Being my first experience owning a windows machine i thought, perhaps settings needed to be changed, maybe reinstall Windows 11, check the bios, update drivers, etc. but problems never stopped coming on a daily basis with this machine. After a month of on and off annoying issues like glitchy screen on startup, not being able to close applications, dead pixel looking white lines that will appear on and off on my task bar, networking issues, the list goes on - i knew I should not have to be going through all of this effort just to get the laptop to work properly. I paid $2200 for this laptop and its taken me more time to look into the problems it has on a daily basis than the amount of time Ive actually been able to use it. This includes having to send it back to the manufacturer to “fix” it when it was completely unusable due to a networking issue and by networking issue i mean completely being unable to connect to any internet which was not fixable without anything less than full Windows 11 reboot amongst other measures taken by the manufacturer. This happens after less than two months of owning it! It was gone for 2 weeks, i only owned it for about 7 weeks. How I wasn't just immediately refunded/store credited is beyond me. I’d expect more of both ASUS and Best Buy. Its clear that the longevity of this machine is more than just at risk, its a certainty that it is not what it should be and sure as shoot is not what i paid for. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this product.

ASUS is an ISO certified company, as a result, all products go into a strict quality manufacturing standard. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections that ensure each one is trouble-free, this is a random problem. To resolve these issues, ensure Windows, drivers, BIOS, applications and games are up to date. If this was performed to no avail, please try to do a factory reset, Windows is possibly corrupted. Still has hiccups.

Plug it into OEM Charger (240W) no whine. I have tried ASUS 100W USB, a NAN 140W IQ Charger, a 240W rated USBC powercable, and still the whine.

It hardly gets hot. It has very good quality. However, its battery is terrible. It consumes between 20% and 25% per hour. With battery optimization, low brightness at 60 HZ. AND ONLY FOR BROWSING AND YOUTUBE VIDEOS. I return this device

Overheating, runs too hot

Not to mention the battery life is awful, I know gaming laptops run hot but the temps (90c+) for the games I'm playing (Roblox, Minecraft, etc) are ridiculous and it isn't even overclocked. I was severely disappointed and I returned the system a day later, I cannot recommend this laptop to anyone, 1 star.

Needs drivers

Good to Bad

But, the screen is cracked and now.. my 2k+ is gone, since the 1 year warranty that came with I t is not usable for bestbuy purchased laptop as asus customer support told me. Geeksquad told me it will cost me $80 to uust send it in and get a diagnosis. I wish Bestbuy would look at this review and help me to at least send it in for free diagnosis.

Disappointing

It looks amazing and it performs amazing… well, *performed*. After a week of use, there are already freezing and graphics display issues. Multiple BSODs and hours of troubleshooting. Needless to say, although my initial impression was amazement, it’s turned into a frustrating disappointment.

TKOs everywhere ASUS knocking it out again
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.This laptop is as beautiful looking as one could call a laptop, the color is slick and the LED's that change on the top lid when on are pretty cool as are the presets for the leds on the keyboard are good too. After initial setup of windows. The unit seems to boot up in about 7 seconds. For fun I restored/reinstalled Windows to see how long it would take from start to finish of reconditioning and took me about 35 minutes to completely wipe out with the 'restore/reinstall windows'. So essentially it is a pretty speedy little laptop. The unit is pretty quiet, I don't hear any loud whines or noises coming from the fans/gpu etc, however when the temps are high and the fans kick up to max speeds, you will hear the air flow and fans, there is just no way around that; but for the most part the unit is exceptionally quiet even during a gaming session... The unit itself has a 16" OLED monitor, and has the smaller TKL (tenkeyless) type keyboard, it boasts a pretty powerful 4070 gpu as well as a much newer AMD HX cpu, so it definitely has the power to run some top end games! pros: gpu:Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 cpu:AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 ram:LPDDR5X 32GB hard drive space type: 2 TB screen: beautiful 16" OLED screen with a 240Hz refresh cons:personal gripes lacks a network port; (which could be solved by adding a docking station with one in it utilizing usb-c) I played an older game of the sims 4 for about 2 1/2 hours; at which time my legs were literally burning from the bottom of this thing being so hot. I tried to turn down the performance under the power settings and choose much lower settings in both power and gpu through the amd tool... hoping to compensate the heat for performance, but even with these settings changed, and the fact that the bottom of the laptop is literally a giant vent nothing seemed to make it any cooler. *I also put the laptop on a stand and prompt at an angle to try and dissipate the heat better. But honestly I really could never get it to a point to where I could foreseeably put this on my lap again, it just runs super hot; but in the same sentence to come to the units defense, it is a gaming laptop, utilizing the newest cpu and gpu, you would expect it to run a little warmer than not. Also, I should point out from the hardware monitor software I installed, while monitoring; the heat never went over the rated thresholds of the hardware. It is unfortunate that the units case gets hot, but it's good to know the unit can keep the gpu/cpu to the levels needed internally. So, if you are comfortable having this on a stand/desk/table etc and not your lap I would highly recommend using it that way... Outside of it being a warmer machine than most, for me there really is nothing to complain about with this laptop. It's sleek, super fast and can play anything you throw at it easily and the OLED screen is just absolutely gorgeous. I would definitely recommend this ASUS to anyone I know looking for a gaming laptop.

Great Until it Breaks

Now the sale price for the holidays is over, and I can't afford to buy this model now. Do yourself a favor and check your event logs if you buy this unit. If you see anything about a "WHEA" error or PCIE buss issues, you're done. Overall a disappointing experience, especially after my g14 2022 died 3 months out of warranty.

The "WHEA" error or PCIE buss issues can either be a software or hardware related. To resolve a software issue, check if Windows, the chipset driver and BIOS are up to date. Super Disappointed

Terrible Connectivity
