Its portability and good battery life are also appreciated, along with its above-average processor speed and appealing design. However, some customers have concerns about heat generation, limited RAM, and fan noise, while a few find the initial price somewhat high.

Absolutely not worth the money. Check actual reviews. It's slower and more expensive than competitors and this thing runs hotter than any Laptop I have ever had . 95 Celsius along the back of the laptop and the keyboard was over 100F. This is garage! I do not recommend this laptop at all. I will be returning it today. If you want OLED, then add an OLED monitor. My msi GL73-9SDK, that I replaced this with booted faster, loaded games faster, ran smooth, played YouTube quicker, and ran cooler.

Unusable performance. I purchased this laptop with the hopes of it being a great on battery life and raw performance in a slim chassis. Unfortunately despite several attempts to update, factory reset, and power cycle the laptop I had multiple issues with it. When booting the laptop, any apps that opened on startup would cause the laptop to freeze and slow down for several minutes. This issue would also appear randomly after startup regardless of performance profile selection or if the laptop was plugged in. Not that the level of performance would have been acceptable either way. On start up the facial scanner would work only about 70 percent of the time, and when it did there was a significant amount of time it would take to start. The battery life when playing video in a web browser would only be about ~3-4 hours. Also, despite the relatively high price tag on this laptop, it only had 16GBs of soldered memory which can never be upgraded. Hopefully I just had a bad version of an otherwise great laptop, but buyer beware.

SUMMARY: The ASUS - ROG Zephyrus G16 OLED 240Hz Laptop should come with a warning, testing at the store can be dangerous for your credit card. You will buy one. I don’t say that lightly, it’s just how excited I am by this laptop. It’s a complete redesign over previous years; it’s lighter, sturdier, quieter, and with fewer aesthetic and ergonomic compromises than you typically see on gaming laptops. Make no mistake, it’s a gaming computer but with broad appeal (multimedia). The closest I have come to having my cake and eat it too. I liked my 2020 ASUS G14, love the 2024 ASUS G16. PROs (sorry for the length but there are a lot): - Built for speed, fast CPU, fast GPU, fast RAM, fast SSD, fast WIFI. Reasonable cooling. Specs below. - All that in a thin (0.65 inches) light (4.1 lbs) stylish (burnished gray aluminum) package that is study, very portable and won’t embarrass you. - A 2.3 GHz Intel Core Ultra 9 Processor (24MB Cache, up to 5.1 GHz, 16 cores, 22 Threads) with Intel AI NPU. - Enough good things cannot be said about the screen. I haven’t seen a better laptop one. - Amazing Dolby Atmos sound with a 4-speaker woofer enhanced system with two tweeters. Impressive. - High Resolution 16 inch OLED screen, 2560x1600. Not 4k, but very crisp and clean. - Extreme Contrast OLED (yes going to keep repeating that) 1,000,000 :1. You won’t believe the blacks. - G-SYNC Support with an insanely fast 0.2ms response time. - 16:10 aspect ratio, great for games, good for movies. - Dolby Vision HDR, Pantone validated, 100% DCI-P3. - 240 Hz Screen refresh rate. Unbelievable smooth graphics. - NVIDIA® GeForce RTX™ 4070 Laptop GPU, 8GB GDDR6 on board. - Quality build, sturdy aluminum casing with a solid keyboard and wide trackpad. The screen is thin but doesn’t wiggle too much. No flex in the keyboard. - 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe M.2 SSD. You can upgrade at your leisure to an additional second SSD, though it’s a tight fit with not much room for a heat sink. - Fast LPDDR5X ram at 6400 megahertz. Fast is the good news, size… well… (see CONs) - Wi-Fi 6E with USB 5.3 - All the ports and more, audio jack, 2.1 HDMI, 1 thunderbolt 4 port, 1 usb C 3.2, 2 USB A, a display port, and UHS-II card reader. - A decent 1080p FHD webcam compatible with Windows Hello. - 3 microphone array with noise cancellation. CONs: - Soldered on ram (16 GB). Not upgradable A MATTER OF TASTE: - Windows 11 Home edition. Fairly standard for new laptops but you might want to upgrade. - You can have any color light for your backlit keyboard as long as it’s black (sorry old henry ford joke). No, you can have ANY color, you pick, but it’s for the whole keyboard, not individual keys. - Slash lighting, doesn’t have as much functionality as it might have, does look good, though you might want to turn it off to go in stealth mode. - Be careful to not block the heat exhaust ports on the bottom/back. You will want this on a flat solid surface. - This is almost a ‘pro’, but some might be dreaming for the ultra-quiet gaming machine. Keep dreaming. I find the fan noise to be acceptable, you will notice it, but you won’t think an aircraft is landing (yes I am looking at you Alienware). There is in fact an ultra-quiet mode but it slows down the computer by thermal throttling but that’s not what we buy gaming computers for. - Not a fingerprint magnet, but some will show up. - Not a touch screen. - Max brightness of 500 cd/m2. I find that plenty bright but others may disagree. They claim full HDR but is it? - Reasonable battery life, you won’t find better on a gaming machine, but obviously less than you might want. I would get 5 hours depending on how hard I pushed it. - Lacks an ethernet jack. - Lacks a brightness sensor. - Lacks a number keypad REVIEW: To put this review in perspective I am a casual gamer. I work as a scientist to pay the bills and support my gaming habit. Having said that I apologize for what looks like a list of specs under the Pro’s list, it’s just they are that good and worth noting. I am not going to repeat them again, so if want to know for example, about what ports it has, see above. And that’s the thing, I really have no major complaints about this machine (other than the soldered on 16 gb ram) so I will just highlight what makes it different from previous versions. THE BUILD: ROG Zephyrus G16 is a premium build. The new all-aluminum chassis is both light and stiff. No flexing keyboard or bouncy screen here. The keyboard is easy to type on (like this review) and the trackpad a delight to use. The ports are well-placed for maximum flexibility. There are people that will be disappointed by the lack of a vapor chamber for cooling, going instead with traditional heat pipes and three fans, but it did the job. It could be noisy, and had a distinct tone different than others, but I quickly got used to it. The excellent speakers helped while playing games. THE SCREEN, THE SCREEN, THE SCREEN: I think the beautiful high-resolution OLED is the reason most people will buy this once they see it. It’s just that impressive, games really take on a new look and the shadows reveal detail. Did I mention fast, 240 HZ. Motion is super smooth. And yes, other applications look good and sharp too (multi media). At 2560x1600 it has enough resolution and fidelity to be useful for photo and video editing as well as word processing, email, web browsing just like a real computer. MEMORY, WHAT MEMORY?: You may disagree, but I think given all the other areas this machine excels, only 16 GB RAM was an ‘interesting’ place to save money especially when one cannot upgrade in the future (soldered on). At least it’s fast (LPDDR5x). I can’t say it slowed my games down, but I was careful to make sure everything else was closed before playing. PERFORMANCE: Geekbench was more than respectable, 2367 single core and 13082 multi-core, but graphics was where it really shines with an OpenCL score of 112541. So yes it can game. With this beautiful screen you want to drink in all the details you can, so I would typically run games at ultra settings and still get frame rates greater than 60 fps (COD, 68 fps), in some cases much higher even (Witcher 3, 97 fps) EVERYTHING ELSE A COMPUTER IS FOR: ‘Gaming’ is in the name, and its DNA, but the redesign of the ROG Zephyrus G16 represents a viable shift in target audience to be more inclusive. Dare I say it competes well with the Apple Pro 16 for doing work? Yes. The ports cover all the modern requirements for external displays and storage, including a thunderbolt port. They even included a web cam. WHO IS THIS FOR? It’s for anyone that needs a laptop that is easy to carry around, wants a premium build, a world class screen, looks good in any setting, can handle any task, but doesn’t compromise on gaming entertainment.
