Customers consistently note the ROG Zephyrus G16's overall performance and impeccable screen quality as major strengths. Its portability and good battery life are also appreciated, along with its above-average processor speed and appealing design. However, some customers have concerns about heat generation, limited RAM, and fan noise, while a few find the initial price somewhat high.

The 2024 ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 is another great entry in the Zephyrus line. Build and performance are what one expects from the line and it only has one glaring Achilles heel. Pros: - Outstanding WOLED screen. Bright, outstanding contrast, and super fast 240hz refresh rate. Resolution is a great balance for all tasks and 16:10 aspect ratio is rare for laptops these days. - RTX 4070 while a mobile part still brings some solid performance to the table. Testing in Cyberpunk 2077 with DLSS, Frame Generation, and Path Tracing enabled hit ~60fps at the displays native 2560 x 1600 resolution. - The Core Ultra 9 185H is fast for gaming and day-to-day use. I did a quick Geekbench 6 compare against my M3 Max based MacBook Pro and unsurprisingly it is considerably slower (almost 35%). That said, gaming on a Mac is still a long way away from being truly usable so if that is important (which if you are looking at this machine it probably is) it is really only notable for comparison sake. At no point did I think the machine was slow. - The SSD is fast, but not necessarily world-class. The Western Digital SN560 is a pretty standard PCI-E 4.0 drive with average performance. I'm guessing battery life was the driver for the choice. - The WiFi 6E is fast. I have it connected to my WiFi 7 router and I am seeing speeds in excess of 1.4gbps. - Keyboard and trackpad are great. Great key feel and well lit. Trackpad is top-notch and responsive. - Overall build is solid and feels high-end. Even includes some lighting on the lid to give it a little extra character. The lighting is adjustable and can even be turned off if you are trying to maximize batter life. - Has IR camera for facial recognition using Windows Hello. Works great and had zero problems logging in. - Light on bloatware which is always nice. I didn't feel a compelling need to wipe the machine and start fresh. Cons: - It gets loud. Even a minor amount of stress on the processor and it goes into full blow dryer mode. - It gets HOT. This is a direct relationship to the loud. Coupled with the vents on the bottom of the chassis I don't recommend placing the machine on your lap for anything more than surfing the web. - Battery life isn't setting any records. On average I am seeing less than 5 hours with very casual, light loads. Gaming... forget about it. You might get an hour to and hour and a half depending on the game. While the machine isn't cheap, you do get a solid, gaming laptop for the money. You could certainly do worse and ASUS has done a great job yet again. Put this one on your short list if you are looking for a lightweight gaming notebook that won't make you feel embarrassed in a business meeting.

A portable powerhouse with outstanding screen

Highlights: - Solid build - Spectacular 2.5k 240Hz OLED screen - Solid performance (10k 3DMark, 5GB/s SSD sequential reads) - Keyboard has a good feel once you get used to the wide spacing. - Excellent physical port selection (HDMI, USB A/C, and a real headphone jack!) - All day battery life (unless gaming) - Charger is proprietary (for the big battery), but USB-C chargers also work fine. I’ve been using this ASUS ROG G16 laptop for about a week now and it has more than proven itself as an extremely powerful and versatile companion for a wide variety of workloads. Gaming performance is especially impressive, with the RTX4070 providing outstanding performance, even when running at high resolutions and settings in moder titles such as Battlefield V. Design and Display The G16 feels solid and well-constructed. Although the screen size and cooling requirements for a gaming laptop mean that it is larger than some other options, it remains perfectly portable and easy to use on a table or my lap. The overall design is attractive and the materials have a high quality feel. The display is the star of the show, a 16” 2560x1600 OLED marvel that provides truly outstanding clarity, contrast, and color reproduction. Putting the display into HDR mode provides even more striking visuals, and HDR is fully supported for both gaming and video streaming. Peak brightness has always been up to the job, even in brighter environments, and the stunning 240 Hz refresh rate provides silky smooth responses. Note that this is not a touch screen. The keyboard has a good feel and it’s easy to type quickly once you get used to the spacing, which is somewhat wider than usual due to the overall form factor. The RGB lighting patterns (complete with AURA support) are a nice touch. Performance Performance has been excellent. The mobile RTX 4070 GPU provides smooth frame rates, even at high resolutions and settings. Ray tracing support is provided and is useable depending on the game and detail settings. I tried it in Battlefield V and the game ran well, although some stuttering was evident at max settings. Horizon Zero Dawn was completely smooth and pegged the benchmark at 60 fps even when running at max native resolution and high settings. 3DMark returned a Time Spy score of > 10000 and ran the benchmarks at 60-70 fps at native resolution. Time Overall, this machine can provide a great gaming experience for modern games. I also tested slicing complex 3D models with Bambu Studio, and performance was excellent, exceeding that of my modern desktop. Disk speeds are also superb, topping 5GB/s for sequential reads and 3.4GB/s for sequential writes. Random reads and writes are also respectable at 482MB/s and 406MB/s respectively. Cooling Unless you’re gaming, the cooling fans are generally unobtrusive. Although fan noise does pick up during high workloads, especially games, it remains very reasonable given the 115 Watts of power potentially being dissipated just by the GPU. The good news is that it’s effective and maintains performance well over time. Battery One benefit of a gaming laptop is a large battery. ASUS claims 10 hours of battery life, and based on my usage I have no reason to doubt that most people could reliably get a full day of continuous use with a mixed workload of office/study apps and content consumption. Heavy gaming will obviously drain the battery much faster (I’d estimate about 2 hours of Horizon Zero Dawn), but this is still very impressive. Be aware that the large battery charges best with a high power proprietary charger, which ASUS includes in the box. However, you can still charge the laptop through a USB-C charger; it will just take longer. Ports Included are 2 USB-C and USB-A ports (one of each on each side – thank you ASUS!), a proper headphone jack (Yes!), full-sized HDMI, and even a slot for SD cards. Clearly ASUS understands their audience and the comprehensive port collection is genuinely appreciated. Summary I am very happy with this laptop. The combination of screen, battery, GPU/CPU, blazing disk speeds, and quality construction make it a fantastic travel companion that can handle almost anything you throw at it.

I spent a week with the laptop before sitting down to write this review so I will start with my setup. I use my laptops three different ways, as a docked workstation in both a single (Home – 27” 1440) and a two screen (Work) setting, and as a standalone laptop on the go. My current docks are both from Dell and I won’t get into the specifics other than to say the ASUS connects right up using a USB-C connection and stays charged without any issues. I won’t dig too deep into the specs themselves since they are already listed and tell you exactly what you are getting. The laptop itself it looks sharp. The ROG startup sequence is nice, and the OLED screen is beautiful. The keyboard is RGB backlit, and I enjoy just letting it cycle through all the colors. The lighting array on the lid is a nice touch, but not useful in any meaningful way and it doesn’t appear to be RGB. It has plenty of ports, but it is missing an ethernet port. If you need or want that you will need to purchase a USB adapter or run your ethernet through a dock. If you can live with just the Wi-Fi it has AX (Wi-Fi 6E) that will give you pretty good speeds. Windows 11 is, well, Windows 11. Setup was easy enough and the Armoury Crate App from ASUS is cool if you like to see exactly what the laptops hardware is doing. You can also use the app to quickly adjust settings for Windows, Silent, Performance, Turbo, and Manual. While at work I use the laptop with the normal Microsoft Office suite of products along with Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. I also use Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve, OBS studio, and RODE’s suite of software to create desktop training videos. DaVinci Resolve can be a resource hog when it comes to playback of video as you edit. My old laptop stuttered badly during playback and was pretty much unusable, but I’ve run into no issues here with the ASUS. No matter what I’ve thrown at it the ASUS has handled it like a champ, even though this model only has 16 GB of memory (I wish it had 32 GB). At home I still use the above listed apps, but of course I add in a little gaming. The main game for me is World of Warships and the GeForce RTX 4070 in this laptop can handle it wonderfully, even on high settings. The fan on the graphics card can get a little annoying once it gets going so you will likely either find yourself turning up the audio or wearing headphones. As a standalone laptop there are two things that really jump out. The first is the screen. The OLED is stunning, and the contrast is fantastic. The colors appear accurate, but I did not calibrate or test it as it looked beautiful out of the box. The other thing is the speakers. They sit on either side of the keyboard and face up and they pack more of a punch than one would think. While they don’t give you a true 5.1 surround sound presence, they do give you a very good sense of spatial sound. They don’t offer much bass, but there is enough there that it doesn’t sound overly tinny. The keyboard has nice tactile feedback as you type and the RGB lighting I mentioned earlier looks nice. The mousepad is nice and large and works well, but sometimes it will sense your palm as you type and will either move or click the pointer. It got a little annoying trying to type at times. Battery life is stated to be 10 hours and if you use it to surf the web or work on you will get a good bit of life out of it, but once you start gaming on the battery your use may vary depending on your settings. In summary it does everything I need it to and then some. I had no major issues with any hardware or software and I look forward to using this laptop for years to come. ASUS really did a good job here.

Laptop Specifications: ASUS ROG Zephyrus G16 (2024) CPU: Intel Core Ultra 9 GPU: RTX 4070 RAM: 16GB LPDDR5X Screen: 16”, 2560x1600, 240Hz Storage: 512GB SSD Build quality The build quality is excellent with premium materials and feel. There is very little deck flex when pushing hard on the keyboard area. The hinge is top notch, feels robust, and stays at the angle I place it. There are no compromises on build quality. Keyboard The keyboard is excellent to type on. Key presses register at any location on the key (middle, side, corners). The keys are spaced well and do not feel cramped. The keyboard layout is good with a proper sized space bar and dedicated arrow keys. A dedicated number pad is not included but that contributes to the good spacing of the keys. Adding one would cramp the keyboard layout. The keys are backlit with a consistent amount of light across all keys. The backlight color is changeable and various lighting effects are available (including off or just a static color). Gaming with the keyboard is great with no issues. Never had a missed keystroke and since the keyboard is not cramped I also never hit the wrong key. Add in your favorite gaming mouse and you have an excellent gaming setup. Trackpad The trackpad is large and responsive. This is one of the best trackpads I’ve used on a laptop. Finger tracking is spot on. No issues with cursor drift while clicking down on the trackpad. The trackpad also supports tapping and is multi touch capable. Screen The 16 inch OLED screen is fantastic with excellent off axis viewing angles. It is 2560x1600 resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate. The screen is well suited for gaming but is also perfect for day to day tasks. The bezels around the screen are thin. The built in webcam is integrated into the top center bezel. Gaming on this screen is great and the high refresh rate keeps things smooth and responsive. Really enjoying the deep blacks and vibrant colors. Performance and Gaming This model includes the Intel Core Ultra 9 185H with 16 total cores (6 performance, 8 efficient and 2 low power). The dedicated GPU is the RTX 4070 with 8GB of VRAM. Gaming performance is as expected with this combination: very good. I tried various game types (FPS, platformers, etc) and everything ran smoothly with no graphical glitches and no frame skipping/pausing. Doom Eternal at native resolution, no DLSS, and Nightmare settings was yielding 160fps to 200fps depending on the game area. Ori and the Will of Wisps at native resolution and highest quality hitting 200fps. And Ori really shows off the screen's eye popping colors. CyberPunk 2077 at native resolution, no DLSS, no RT, and High settings hitting between 40 and 60FPS. Enabling DLSS and adjusting graphical settings hitting over 100fps. The laptop does get warm after long gaming sessions and the fans will kick in to help keep things cool. The fans can get a bit loud but I wear headphones so it is a non-issue for me. Connectivity On the left is the power plug, full size HDMI 2.1 port, Thunderbolt 4 Type-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A, and an audio jack. On the right is USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type A, and an SD Card Reader. Support for Bluetooth and WiFi 6E is built in. WiFi has been seamless with good range and no dropped connections. Overall Easily one of the best Gaming laptops I’ve used which of course makes it a great laptop for any task.

This is my 4th ASUS laptop. My ASUS GL703 died due to a off-brand replacement battery so I saw this laptop was on-sale for $620 off regular price. $1379.99 is a deal. Got it at the Maple Grove store where a young man showed me the gaming ASUS laptops. Very helpful, I've never paid less then $2000 for ASUS laptop and this is much faster, more storage, then my GL703. The setup took about 2 hours and it automatically restored my files and most of my apps. Not a gamer, into photography and investing. The screen is amazing. Best yet that I've owned. I started with the original IBM PC with dual floppies that cost $3000. This laptop is probably faster then the first mainframe I worked on. Crazy. I've had good luck with ASUS over the years and recommend the brand.

Well made gaming laptop. Appears to be sturdy and relatively light weight for size and performance. Performance is great. The only problem was with the Function key, which needs pressing every time you want to change volume, brightness, keyboard lighting, etc. It's really surprising how such an essential usability feature is missing. I had to return both G16 and G14 due to this issue.

Gorgeous design and screen, great for content creation, plays games well, affordable than most, and it's lighter than my underpowered 14" ultrabook. Only con is that it does run hot... but unlike previous gens the heat is centered on the upper part of the keyboard so i can still play games with the wasd keys.

That will fix your temperature issues. BATTERY LIFE I get about 7.5 hours watching video which in my opinion is pretty good for a gaming laptop.

This laptop from the box, feels very premium. No unnecessary graphics or paperwork. It feels like a premium workstation and a gaming laptop all in one. The box was very sleek and it was easy to remove the laptop as well and it looked very safe inside the box. It's a 16in laptop but it's thinner and sleeker than my other 16in laptop. The feel of the laptop is very solid. It feels smooth and doesn't seem too much of a fingerprint magnet based on my tests. The screen is OLED with 240hz refresh rate, the color is amazing and very beautiful. It's not touch screen even though it looks like it could be. It does have some reflection and glare however. The layout of the keyboard, touch pad, and the speakers look very premium but it does seem reminiscent of a certain fruit device or even Razer. That's not a bad thing. The indicator lights are the back which kind of makes it hard to see but the LED lights on the lid itself are very nice to look at but it's much less than its predecessor. This unit comes with only 8GB of VRAM and that does seem very lackluster in today's games. But you'll be able to play any competitive games with ease using this laptop. It's also pretty upgradeable so you don't have to worry if you think the SSD is too tiny or if the ram is too little. AAA games run great on this too but as always, I wouldn't super push it to the limit but it does look fantastic with this screen. Productivity is amazing and you can edit your videos, photos or whatever else with this. Coding will be handled with ease as well. It doesn't look too much like a gaming laptop either so you don't have to be embarrassed taking this out.

I was pleased to receive the ASUS G-16Series Gaming Laptop for evaluation and review. It is a ROG ZEPHYRUS 16" Republic of Games computer made by ASUS. The laptop arrived well packaged and in perfectly new condition. Everything about the packaging and the laptop itself speaks of quality and care in the production and shipping of this machine. The ASUS G-16 Gaming Laptop is a well-built computer with a hardshell metal casing. It includes many high-end components including: Intel Core Ultra 9 motherboard NVIDIA GEFORCE RTS Studio Nvidia G Sync 1 TB SSD A nicely lit colorful keyboard Great lighting on the outer cover when closed and shutting down 16" OLED, 240 HZ 185H-32GB DDRS A large trackpad Awespme video with adjustable lighting Stereo speakers facing upward on either side of the keyboard Once unboxed, the laptop took very little time to set up and contained very little bloatware. The laptop found my desktop machine and mirrored it in very little time, loading its data, bookmarks, etc. into the ASUS unit. An operating system update was required and I found a lot of new options not provided in my desktop. The laptop runs Windows 11 and is wicked fast on start up and when using programs. I love the quality of the ASUS build and the thoughtful choice of comonents and software it provided. This laptop has become my go to travelong companion!

Great gaming laptop. Have been using it to play FC25, COD, Ghost of Tsushima and some other high end games. Runs smooth after GPU driver update

    Mousepad too big!

This laptop is almost perfect. It gets hot while gaming but expected. I always have a laptop cooler underneath when I am gaming. Asus power adapters are expensive and hard to find an economical replacement. My biggest gripe is the mousepad, it's too big and too close to the keyboard. The cursor is always moving around, "accidentally". Also, after minimal use, the bottom left corner of the mouse slightly says suppressed.
