Good Gaming Laptop

Fantastic design and build quality
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Recently sold my gaming rig as I wanted something I could bring with me on the go. I’m too cheap to have a gaming rig and laptop so I decided to make the switch. After comparing my options, I went with this as it had great specs and the price was comparable to other options out there. Received the laptop and couldn’t be happier already! The performance alone is pretty amazing. The screen is awesome and the high refresh rate makes a difference. Do not hesitate to buy the 2020 M15 - you won’t be disappointed.

Great gaming PC but a little hot.
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I really like this computer. It plays every game at high or ultra settings. My only concern is the fan noise and how hot it gets. I bought a laptop cooler and now it stays very cool and mostly quiet. I recommend this.

Mean lean gaming machine!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My new laptop is running great! It will run Forza Horizon 4 on full Ultra setting on the laptop screen and if I use Dynamic settings, it will run it at full 4k at Ultra settings V-sinc'd at 60hz on a TV. Will run Trainz 2019 9n high settings, Assetto Corsa (with Sol 2.0 and CSP), and COD at high settings, and any other game that I've tried. I added another 1TB drive right when I bought it and it's got plenty of fast storage now. I bough a cheap chill mat to be able to sit it in my lap or on a couch when it's hooked to the TV so the fan ports are not blocked. Really enjoying this laptop.

Solid school & gaming laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this for my son and unfortunately, we had to go through some pain in returning it for a different one (same model) because there was a dead pixel at the very center of the screen. The 2nd one was better and it's the fastest laptop I've ever seen. It runs Civ VI very well and the screen is fantastic. It can get very hot & loud at times, so I'd recommend a cooling pad, but solid laptop for a student (who wants to game) overall.

Fantastic value for money
||Posted . Owned for 4 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. An absolute beast of a machine and at a fantastic price too (was on sale at $1300 at the time). The fan does get pretty loud when playing games but I wear headphones anyway so it doesn't bother me. Thunderbolt 3 port is a nice touch though I've not found a use for it, it's a nice added bonus. It's been able to handle an extremely modded Skyrim will ease, never stuttering despite throwing everything at the highest settings. Blender and Unity both run fast too. May have lost its place to the RTX3000 series laptops, but if you see this at a decent price point I would seriously still consider it as it still runs a RTX2070 which is no slouch.

good but hot.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Returned my first of this laptop after first day of purchase because I received two blue screen errors while updating windows and drivers/asus tools. All of these were updates from either within windows update or asus software and not something I downloaded from a third party. After the second time of the blue screen error (which took a significant longer time to process and reboot automatically), the fans stopped working and laptop was reaching hot temperatures. Immediately returned and got another one of these laptops. The funny thing is the guy in front of me at the customer service line was returning the same laptop (he thought it got too hot). So far no issues like the first, but this one turned on by itself when I plugged in the power cable for its first charge. The included documentation tells you to charge for 3 hours before first boot, but so much for that. I'm not really happy with the experience from the getgo with this laptop. I thought ASUS was a higher(est) quality brand, but this model is terrible, or ASUS software is terrible, or ASUS is not the best brand anymore, or ASUS doesn't care about their mid-range models because they are making enough money from idiots who buy their touch screen laptop yoga models with dual screens. I know we don't live in a perfect world, but for a gamer laptop or not bottom tier ("premium laptop"), I would expect that the opening-a-new-laptop-experience to be better. On another issue, this thing does run hot. It is better to run on turbo mode because silent and performance modes reach hotter temperatures even though the cpu clock speed is lower. I guess that's how effective the cooling/fan is, but it is at the cost of more fan noise and wearing down the cpu for "turbo" clock speeds when I am not even using it for a high demanding process such as browsing the internet. They should allow for a separate fan speed control that only changes the fan speed, in addition to their pre-set profiles. They have a "custom" option, but when you change to higher fan speeds, the asus software confirms if you are sure you want to increase the clock speed as well. This might be the best thing they can do, or the safest, but doesn't make sense in practice. Also just to inform on how hot this thing gets, the normal area (above the keyboard and below the display) are very hot, like borderline you might get first degree burns and definitely a child or an uninformed person will get frightened from the heat. But beyond that, even the F keys are somewhat hot, and the row of keys above that ( volume, rog button) are hotter. Being that this area is the "normal" area to be hot, I don't want to bash on it, but the middle of the keyboard is significantly hot as well. When the fans are running full force, the left and right edges of the keyboard don't feel hot because the fan suctions gives it a cooler feel, but that suction doesn't reach the middle of the keyboard, therefore it is uncomfortably warm, when you are gaming or running heavy loads. I guess I bought this out of loyalty or respect for what I now consider a bias towards asus. I really don't want to buy a different brand because this was a good price point for $1250 at black friday prices, but i'm thinking of going MSI raider with the 2070 super (also on their black friday sale) especially if this maxQ gets so hot. I thought these maxQ gpus would run not so hot, but at high 80s for both CPU and GPU and Spikes to the 90s for CPU, I might as well get a laptop that has a bigger chassis with better specs and same temperatures. TLDR I feel like this is a good laptop, but the temps are going to wear it down quick while giving you no peace of mind either through their terrible software.

Posted .Dear DISAPOINTEDguy,
I'm sorry to hear that you have had stability and heat issues with two of these laptops. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control, testing and inspections. What you've experienced was not intentional or representative of our brand. Based on your description, it appears that the unit is not thermal throttling. However, if the unit is constantly warm that indicates there may be a cooling issue. If you are concerned, I recommend contacting Best Buy directly to arrange a warranty repair of your unit. I will also forward your case to the Product team for review. If you have any general or technical questions, please email me at [email protected] and include case #N2011036572 for reference.
Thank you for choosing ASUS!
Best regards,

Overall a great product at a decent price.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Fast and easy to use for the first time makes this laptop a great choice. The specs you're getting for the price is reasonable as well. Gaming and doing everyday tasks with this is great, it can handle every game I installed (warzone, apex, witcher 3, alan wake, and AC origins). I would suggest undervolting and gaming in a low temperature ambient since this thing gets pretty hot if you push it. The hottest it got for me was 85C. Every app opens and runs fast and smooth so far with everyday use.

i knew it was too good to be true...
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.really like the performance of this laptop, however a couple of things that you should be aware of: 1-the temperature gets very hot, to the point that the fans get very loud and it sounds like the laptop is about to take off. 2- there is an issue with this laptop when it comes to the ram speed. both the specs listed here and at the ASUS website state that the ram speed is 3200mghz. this is not accurate, from stock it only reads at 2933mghz and there is no way to upgrade this inside of the BIOS. I contacted ASUS and was dissapointed about the lack of response, after spending 2 hors on the phone the person who i explained this issue to told me that they did not know how to fix that and they sent me a form to fill out to escalate this issue and still no response. so i am disappointed at ASUS customer service. definitely returning and i'm done with ASUS for good. after trying two laptops this one and the G14 and also having a defective display (dead pixels within a week of purchasing i don't feel comfortable about the quality or support from ASUS.

||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The display is silky smooth at 240hz, the fans do ramp up pretty quick in the performance setting but that's to be expected with an rtx2070 and a 6 core processor inside. Overall great product way better than my previous MSI laptop.

Very decent value portable gaming laptop
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got the M15 after frustration from owning the new Dell XPS 15 which came with a lot of issues and I was surprised with how good the M15 is. On basic productivity (Chrome + Office apps), the fans remain on but are very quiet on silent mode: around 33db as the loudest I measured vs. 38db on the XPS 9500. Temps are also quite decent and the keyboard feels cool to the touch on basic productivity. During gaming, Performance and Turbo mode easily gets very loud. Though you could game on Silent if you aren't playing very intensive games such as Overwatch and manage very good framerates. I measured around 41db playing Overwatch on Silent vs. 48db on the XPS with same settings (except capping 240 FPS on M15 vs. 60 FPS on XPS15). The keyboard does get a little warm after an hour but I wouldn't say it's uncomfortable; it also was cooler than the XPS. So all in all, noise and heat are quite good. The display is definitely very buttery smooth and brightness and color accuracy are decent enough. I really like the keyboard as the keys don't feel mushy and the trackpad was surprisingly better here than the XPS. RGB is okay and I don't mind the light creep, though if you do watch a movie at night, I'd recommend dimming the brightness and then only turning them on when you need them. The laptop isn't as "futuristic" vs. the XPS which looks like it was made in 2021 vs like 2018 for the M15 to be honest. Speakers were okay but it is a gaming laptop. If I had to nitpick, I'd say that the laptop feels a little big. Maybe it's cause I felt the XPS which has a smaller footprint, though the M15 doesn't feel thick. You should be able to easily carry it around as needed as it doesn't feel heavy whatsoever. The build quality is quite decent. I would say you could easily bring the laptop to class or even the office. And then you can just go home with it and game on it with RGB keyboard lights. Battery life was around 5.5 hours of light web browsing and some Office apps. The only thing I really dislike would be the LED status lights, especially on the power button. They're really unnecessary IMO and I wish Asus would enable you to turn them off, especially since the power button light is so bright. I also sort of dislike that the USB-C port is on the right, as if I'm charging it on the go, I'd rather not have it right next to my mouse.

This fantastic laptop is flying under the radar
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best cost to performance ratio gaming laptop out there in the is small form factor. The build quality great, the thermals are good, not great...but what do people really think that their going to get in this thin chassis, the 240hz/3ms screen is fantastic and a great typing experience with the RGB backlit keyboard. The other thing I like is the prism grey color...it's not a fingerprint magnet. For some reason this computer is flying under the radar...but trust an old timer that's had just about every type of gaming PC and laptop over the years...you cant go wrong with this one!

Price to performance perfected.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've been looking for a gaming laptop for a while and was a bit hesitant considering the new AMD and 30 series laptops are coming out now. I originally bought a Razer Blade 15 and was very disappointed with the thermals and battery life. I exchanged it for the Zephyrus M15 and am glad I did. After under-volting the CPU and GPU I get great thermals and even better performance. On battery, I get about 6-7 hours. Plugged in I get over 120 fps in most games. Great buy! I can only imagine how good the Ryzen version of this laptop would be.

Fans run loud the second games open.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've had 4 different Asus laptops ranging from the original G series in 2014 to the Strix and now I've tried the Zephyrus. I've had no issues in the past with any previous models of Asus's gaming laptops except this one. Don't get me wrong, it's fast the graphics are sweet but it's loud. I don't know what's up with the fan system but I opened up World of Warcraft with settings just at good and I capped the FPS to 90 (it was able to get up to 240 in some situations) and the fan instantly blew at max speed, I didn't even do anything yet I just stood there. I have a pretty powerful laptop cooling fan underneath it and nothing was blocking the fans so I don't know why the fan needs to be constantly blowing at max speed the second a game opens up. I wouldn't mind if it wasn't so loud, but if you're not playing music and you're on Discord trying to listen to people, you have to have your volume at max and push them up to 150%-200% to hear them over the sound of the fan, was too much hassle so i returned it. If the fans don't bother you, this laptops great for its price. But for me, the fans killed it.

Posted .Dear Mike,
I'm sorry to hear about your experience with this laptop's cooling system. This is certainly not the kind of experience that we want any of our customers to have. Please note that Armoury Crate supports multiple fan profiles. If the system is too loud under the default profile, you can adjust it to your liking. I understand that you have returned the unit due to fan noise, but I will forward your feedback to the Product team for review. Asus Laptop
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have recently bought this computer for my son for his birthday and I have to say, I’m impressed. The laptop has a large screen that allows him to view everything nicely. Also, the computer has a quick response time and the graphics are quite pleasing. One of the features that the computer has to offer is that it's able to switch to a “silent mode” if you don't wanna hear the loud fans. In conclusion, I would recommend this laptop to anyone and is great at the price it is listed at.
