I purchased two of the ASUS RT-AX86S routers to replace a two node Apple router system that I was running. I was previously running an Airport TimeCapsule as a primary router cabled to an Airport Extreme as a remote node. Now I have these two RT-AX86S units cabled together via 1gig ethernet using the ASUS AiMesh system. Bit of a learning curve going from Apple to ASUS, I but now that I know my way around the ASUS web interface I really like it. You will have to do some research, but it is very flexible and you can configure the network almost any way that you want. I’m successfully running the Dual band Smart connect mode. I’m running a mix of old and new devices on both bands without issue. I like the vertical orientation of the unit, it should aid cooling of the internals. I have had overheat issues with other network gear that had a flat horizontal design. Data rates are great. I am on a 400Mbps Comcast plan and usually test at 450-480Mbps actual download speeds on my newer devices, so no problems there. I had some issues with a couple of fixed location devices (iMac and printer) occasionally connecting to the remote node, and running at slow speeds or losing connectivity. The solution was to simply bind them to the closest node. Problem solved. Binding is very easy to do using the web interface (haven’t tried the iOS app). I have had zero problems for two months now after binding these problem child devices. The routers and connections have been rock solid. The routers run cool and the speeds are great. Range seems to be as good or better than my old setup. I’m not running any of the built in specialty software modules yet, so I can’t speak to those. I did setup a couple of guest VLANs, those seem to work well also. My biggest complaint with ASUS is the difficulty in finding/understanding the documentation of some of the more advanced features (AiMesh vs Access Point vs Repeater mode for example). It is out there, but you will have to work to find and understand it. This is fairly typical of most router manufactures though I believe.

Upgraded our internet service and figured we might as well upgrade our router as well. Night and day difference from the Spectrum provided router! We stream movies, game, and use several Ring/Alexa devices on several devices seamlessly. Our son loves the WiFi6 speed for gaming. We've owned this particular router for about a year now and love it. Definitely recommend the AUSUS AX5700.

Such an amazing router! Best router I've ever purchased. Amazing speed and range. Every other router I've had, I only get 1 or 2 bars in my bedroom. This router, I get full bars! No cutting out with my internet either. Definitely recommend this router. Bought when on sale for $70 off.

If you 're having a problem about jitter, packet lost , ... This device will be the perfect one to reduce these problems 80 -90 %, the signal can penetrated concre or wood wall easily.Sometimes you can get some lagging issue during FPS or MOBA games but overal this is the balanced price/quality router.I'd rate 4.5/5

bought this to replace an old asus onhub that google decided wasn't worth keeping updated. sadly it couldn't even outperform a 7 year old device. pretty sold on asus products so figured why not give this a shot. updated the firmware first thing then started to configure it. left almost everything set to OFF except for the firewall which is on by default. set it to ax mode enabled and auto band switching. several of my devices seemed to bounce from 5 to 2.4 ghz and back and forth several times. nope, not a fan, disabled that. tried testing devices. both nest security cameras having trouble connecting and viewing video, not good. upstairs tv keeps buffering while streaming disney plus for the kids, not good. tv downstairs keeps buffering watching 4k youtube videos, not good. disable ax so router uses ac instead as I only have one ax device, my pixel 7, and even that was for some reason jumping over to the 2.4ghz even though the router is literally 10 feet away from me. all in all I only have maybe 12 devices that actively connect to the wifi and maybe 4 or 5 that actively use the connection at any one time. I shouldn't have to troubleshoot a brand new router out of the box . user interface leaves a lot to be desired. reminds me of old router interface from 20 years ago. bottom line, this thing is going back to best buy tomorrow. I have plugged back in my old asus onhub even though google disabled its controls through the home app it still is working for the time being. I have ordered the new nest pro wifi from amazon because of the next day delivery.

      Dear Eric,

We do understand your disappointment and the inconvenience this may have caused.

If you are experiencing unstable or poor wireless connection, after configuring the router, please try to do a power cycle on both ISP's modem and the router. Wait a couple of minutes then power on the ISP' modem first. Once all LED on the modem are ready, power on the router and check the LEDs. If everything looks, please try to connect and see if the signal improve. If still unstable, we recommend that you check with your ISP if the router is supported and setup correctly from their end.

If you need further assistance, please email me at [email protected] and I would be happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent at: http://bit.ly/AsusLiveChat.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

I'm using this to manage dual WAN connections and 2 XD6 mesh access points with wireless backhaul. It's also running the full AiProtection suite. CPU utilization is low but if I were running Gigabit+ internet, I would probably have gotten the RT-AX86U. Overall, I'm very happy with it.

I'll give the highest score to this router 10 out of 10. Works perfect, and the internet is available in any area of our townhouse at 900 sqft. It's also very accessible and easy to connect. I highly recommend this router.

Pros: Easy setup Fast speeds Good coverage Good app Cons: Price Need newer components to take advantage of the Wi-Fi 6 protocol I replaced a Nighthawk R7000 AC1900 router with this one. The Nighthawk just quit working less than 3 years from the date I bought it. It was not misused or mishandled in any way. At the time of purchase it cost the same as the Asus, so I didn't expect to die so quickly. The Asus has been working great. There's been two times or has dropped the Internet connection in the couple months I've had it. A quick reboot fixed the issues immediately both times. They both occurred in the beginning of it's use and I hadn't tweaked the settings completely. There haven't been any drops since downloading the latest firmware and applying my custom settings. The speed the router provides is insane. Of course your results will very based on the Internet subscription you have from your ISP, but the report will not be the bottleneck in any case. I get 500 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up on my Galaxy 22+ from the opposite side of the house on the same floor (2800 Sq ft divided equally been upstairs and downstairs). My PC, which has a WiFi 6e card and is downstairs gets identical speeds. The laptop that is connected with a cat 5 cable to the router gets over 750 Mbps down and 12 Mbps up. It handles many devices and connections flawlessly. We have 3 cell phones, 2 computers and a ton of light switches, WiFi plugs, Alexa and a couple other random devices. None of them have had any issues. While the cost may be high, tender if you take your old router in to Best Buy, they not only will recycle it for you, they will give you a 15% off coupon towards a replacement router. Kudos to BB for making the recycle program available.

I bought this because my old router died and didn't support the speeds I was getting now. I thought it was easy to set up. You can do it right from an App. Can maintain everything about the router right from an App on your phone which is nice. Gives you a lot of flexibility on how you want to set it up and how you want to use it. The range on this is alot better than my previous router, I can get a signal nextdoor if I needed to.
