Works well so far. Setting up your own VPN is doable via the OEM firmware, but descriptions of the various options are lacking. Also, although I had turned off all of the LEDs, one of them turned back on after a firmware update.

It worked ok for about a week, then the 5ghz network stop working and the 2.4ghz was spotty. All of my devices are wifi6 802.11ax capable I tried several times to factory reset the device (and reboot the network) and it still won't work. Ive been setting up home networks for 20+ years and know what I'm doing. Plugged in the 6 year old Linksys and the network works like a charm. Several customers have had this issue from what users are saying on Reddit. Buyer Beware.

Horrible product for 40+ devices

I tried 2 of these thinking the first was defective. These have the ability to create an IOT network. My entire home would drop, wired, wireless, and external connections when I could see them after finally getting connected. I thought it was a device on my network causing it so I slowly disconnected devices until the issue went away. After disconnecting one of them, my network came back up. I thought that was the issue and left that device off. Move to this week, added another device to the IOT network and the entire router crashed again. Contacted ASUS tech support. Repeated troubleshooting steps I had already taken, and my case was elevated. 2 week now and nothing and a network that doesn’t work. The router can’t handle more than 45 devices on separate vlan networks

Typically, this router will allow 250 devices connected simultaneously. However, most ISP will only allow 10 devices connected at the same time before it will start throttling down the bandwidth. Disappointing

I was surprised by the extent to which I have come to dislike this router strongly. Aspects of Hits performance are great, but the signal consistency, ease of setup, and software performance leave much to be desired. I would return this router if I still could, but I am barely outside of Best Buy's 14-day return period.
This router makes LAN gaming between two computers quite difficult. Auto detection used to easily happen with my previous router setup, but everything needs to be entered manually now in order for our devices to connect. On those rare instances, when our computers can actually see each other within a game, the router invariably terminates the connection within a few minutes.
I made the mistake of toggling on the non-AI based parental controls for my phone at one point, and it has permanently applied those settings to my phone, regardless of what I do on the router to change them. I have not yet attempted the complete reset of the router, but it's insane that it applies strict parental controls to devices that have those options toggled off.
I really hate this thing,

Worked great the first 3 weeks I had it. Now all devices on the network will randomly lose connection to the internet. Have already tried replacing the modem, so issue is with the router. Best Buy wont accept a return or exchange passed 14 days. Asus says to reach out to Best Buy for support.

I thought this ASUS router v would be awesome, and as long as you sick to the bars minimum features it offers, it's fine. However, if you want to use Quality of Service, Parental Controls, Traffic Monitoring, etc, ASUS presents you with a popup letting you know that enabling those features grants then access to all of your Internet data going through your router. To be clear, other routers have those features enabled ON the routers not the cloud so they don't need to wholesale copy your data, but ASUS apparently does. Small business owner with trade secrets, or doing your taxes and banking at home, ior anything else? All it takes is one date beach at ASUS and all that data is out there for everyone.... nevermind whatever ASUS wants to do with it (sell it to advertisers?). You're better off buying a router with these features that work locally.

This has been the absolute HARDEST router that I've ever had to connect!! Right now, I can get online... but... my Internet speeds are garbage! I am considering reinstalling my old Netgear router! Maybe it's TOO "tech'ed out" for my taste, or maybe I just don't know what I am doing, but... how much more difficult could it be from all of my previous routers??? HELP!!

I have used Asus product routers for quite some time now. And this seems to be one of the worst that I have experience. The routers and the app on your phone is very very unstable. At best I would say that it's probably very buggy. Before this I had the AC 88u which was a very good router for me. I wanted to upgrade but this is not the one

2.4ghz channel crashes immediately. Go ahead and contact support. Theyll tell you to update it , reatart it , or... do a hard reset. Alllll a waste of time . Bring this back to the store or throw it away. It wouldn't even work out of the box. I was on the phone with tech support for 30 minutes to get it to connect to my modem. Then. After all that. The 2.4ghz channel wont work longer than a couple days. Its loses speed slowly, then completely dies. Fukkkkkking garbage.

Router died after 4 months of ownership. The WAN port will come online briefly and then immediately get disabled with no way to vring it back online. Firmware updates and rebooting the router did not fix the issue
