Replaced a Netgear Nighthawk R7400(3-5 years old) with this unit, as I was loosing signal Apple TV, iPad and Bose Portable Smart Speaker. From lack of Netgear routers being on "top" lists and seeing ASUS show up I made the switch. Also Best Buy floor people said to stay away from Netgear(3 different people), but a Geek Squad guy said Netgear was still OK.
Very disappointed so far. Speedtest is telling me signal unstable and I am 15" feet from router. Signal strength is a total downgrade. Areas in the front of the house and backyard where I would get 3 WiFi bars and have phone conversations I am know getting 2 WiFi bars and conversations are dropping and reconnecting during conversation(iPhone 12 Pro). All my products are on the latest operating systems. Connection with the Apple TV and Bose are better, but connection to Apple TV(4K 2nd Generation) does not connect right away, but once it does it basically stable. Purchased 3/15/2025. Waiting to hear back from ASUS support as support ticket was generated 3/16/2025, they said basically 2 days but nothing in the inbox when I got home tonight

Speeds are good when it is working but constant drop outs and need to cycle power at least once a week. Range is good and meets three eero 6 mesh i replaced. Wish i would have gotten the next model up.

The speeds and range on router are very mediocre. More importantly, it runs so hot. When I first picked it up, I thought it was overheating and it probably was, since my wifi speeds dropped. Stay away from this router at all costs.

5ghz signal cuts out randomly

Legitimate trash, possibly the worst router I've ever used. Currently switched back to my last netgear router which only works at about 75% speed of the Asus one.
On setup it broke all my Samba shares and my Phillips Hue system requiring me to reconfigure each. The 5ghz signal cuts out randomly and the 2.5ghz is painfully slow. After googling it, it seems this has been a problem for years with Asus' firmware. Flashing third party software (Merlin) fixes the issues on supported routers, but this one isn't supported.
Avoid.

avoid placing the router near metal objects, electronic devices or direct sunlight, position the router on a flat, hard surface and halfway between the floor and ceiling. Additionally, dense building materials, such as gypsum, concrete walls and planks can affect Wi-Fi signal penetration. Check if your internet service is stable or working properly, ensure your PC or device WIFI driver is up to date, try to disable Smart Connect and set the channel bandwidth to 5GHz band. Additionally, we recommend updating the Mesh router firmware if it is running with an older version. Unfortunately, my highly dependable TP Link A10 router died today, and with a router being an urgent need I decided to run to Best Buy to purchase a new one. I thought I was making a good move by purchasing this Wifi 7 router, but I was very wrong. I spent nearly 6 hours today trying to troubleshoot why my PC would not connect to it. Most of my other devices did, but not my PC. I got it to connect a few times only to have it drop connections. At one point it even dropped connections across all my devices and had to be rebooted. All of this within 1 day… This thing was WAY too much of a hassle. Avoid it and go with a dependable router brand instead.

My wifi 6 asus router I had before was more stable this thing drops connection every fre minutes. I tried factory reseting after updating and setting up sgain but didnt make a difference I will be returning this not worth the hassle.
