    ASUS Products going downhill quick...

I bought this because the Netgear router I had for about 6 years had a random weird issue with the 5Ghz band no longer broadcasting. I should have done more research. I ran to the store, asked a Best Buy employee what they thought about the Netgear vs. the ASUS router, and they recommended the ASUS router. Now I run a tech repair company, do networking for a living, and know a thing or two, but there were some new terms and "new tech" on this router I saw as an upgrade over the router I'd had previously, and the price point was...fair I'd say. I get it home, get it unboxed, setup was a piece of cake, and then out of nowhere half of my devices don't connect, because of some feature called "Smart Connect" and I guess Wifi 7 has a stronger WPA3 Encryption method that NVIDIA Shield streaming boxes can't connect to...whatever I fiddled around with it, separated the two bands, and brought the 2.4Ghz band down to Wifi 6 once more so devices would connect. After that, everything seemed to connect beautifully...for about 30 minutes. Then began the random disconnects of anything on the 2.4Ghz band(5Ghz devices still stayed connected). I disabled "SmartConnect" and changed the wifi channel to something less busy thinking...oh maybe interference. Two weeks later of tweaking, and I still have no stable 2.4Ghz connection. My doorbell chimes don't work from Ring because all my devices keep disconnecting, my lights in my smart home won't respond, because everything's disconnecting, and the Google Home devices I have keep disconnecting at random intervals too. I've done all the firmware upgrades, all the recommended fixes, and I think I can definitively say that this router is just trash. I'm sad too because you think you're getting a great value when you buy it with all the new tech, but it's been cheaply implemented, and rushed to market before it's stability could be proven. Trust the other one star reviews on here too, and just steer clear. I'm so angry I'm taking this back to Best Buy without the box, and getting myself a new Netgear router, even if it doesn't have all the bells and whistles. Motherboard issues, router problems, power supplies...what can ASUS do right lately?

Easily the worst router I’ve ever used. When it works it works great. But then randomly every couple/few weeks it decides it doesn’t like internet anymore. So it pretends like there is no internet from the modem. The only way I have found to fix it so far is to factory reset it and then reprogram again. I did also contact ASUS and wow the level of uselessness was quite astonishing. Tried to blame literally everything other than the router. I’ve loved ASUS routers but after my experience with this I would definitely recommend staying away from this one for sure and quite possibly the brand.

      Dear WhiteNinja29,

      Thank you for your comment.

We do understand your disappointment with this router and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are experiencing connection problems. To resolve this unstable connection, check if the router’s security settings matches with your ISP’s modem credentials, verify if the PC or device connecting to the router is working properly and within range to the router, the router is within 30 feet to the ISP's modem, if not wired with a network cable, and ISP's internet service or connection is working properly or stable. When the router cannot connect to internet services, check the LEDs or activity lights on your ISP's modem to determine where the root cause of the connection problem. Also, we recommend updating the router's firmware if it is running with an older version. Firmware is available for download at:  https://www.asus.com/supportonly/rt-be7200/helpdesk_bios/. Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help. Or, you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/.

Great Dual Band router. Even though it only has two bands, this router has superior components. With WiFi 7 it brings top notch features and having 8 LAN ports is the cherry on top. I use this router as an AI mesh node connecting to a GT-BE98 Pro.

I have very mixed feeling about this router. The 10g wan and spf along with the 2.5g switch have been amazing. I can also say that iOS wifi is great. Get 1.2g to an M4 ipad. Windows is a different story all together. I have tried for the better part of a week to get 4 Windows 11 devices to get proper speed through this router. 2 laptops and 2 desktops. They are a mix of Intel and Mediatek wifi cards. Tried multiple drivers and fresh install of Windows. I have been able to get 100mbs on my best attempts. I have tried a 2nd router with the same outcome. Not a single setting in the router or Windows has had an impact on the performance. I am not certain if this is a Windows, a router, or a something else issue. I have resorted to an old google router to provide wifi 5 to my Windows devices since this router checks all of my wired and non-windows device needs. Take a swing if Windows is not your primary device for wireless connectivity.

Avoid these flawed devices!! Tried 2 of these routers. Got the ISP to replace the internet modem due to it having major problems picking up an IP. Asus support blamed everything but the router, I eventually replaced it. Had one phone and 1 laptop connected, bought 2 new Asus repeaters to replace the ones that worked with the older ASUS router. Nothing ever worked correctly. It would usually a day or 2 until the repeaters wouldn't work with it. Lots of Zero MAC errors. Failed connections. All in the log. Faulty device. Search the internet for this model and you will see the same problems over and over again. Avoid.

I tried both types of networks it offered, the standard and IOT; Neither have stayed stable. The home devices I have, stayed connected with no issues with my previous NetGear Nighthawk router, but just one of the ports went out due to a bad storm, and I thought I'd upgrade. Now nothing stays connected to home network, constantly disconnecting, so much so its practically made everything unusable, smart home no longer.

Would love to say this upgrade was worth it, But so far it has been the exact opposite, its great for the rooms it can reach. Now for everywhere else it barely reach's it's horrible, constant lagging in games, and connection drops constantly. While we spent a few weeks trying to correct the problem unknown to us we only had two weeks to return so now we are stuck with this expensive garbage . Honestly I think the worst part is I went in to Best Buy and spoke to a Geek Squad member to discuss if this would work and was told 100% this would be enough for what I needed, compared to the multi unit system I had previously. Even though I stated a few times are you sure I shouldn't go with another Multi Unit system, note to self never trust a best buy employee.
