Man, this router is phenomenal. My primary complaint is that it does not have more multi-gigabit ethernet ports. At $700 it really should have all 10gigabit ports, not just two. Otherwise, It’s wifi 7 AND has 6GHz (what you gain with WiFi 6E) & 6GHz is a game changer, it’s phenomenally fast! This router is one of the few left that I can say that it “just works.” Most of them nowadays are constantly having problems. 99% of the time this router is up and running at blazing fast speeds and can truly support up to 10 GIGABIT INTERNET! If you have an internet provider like Wire3 that offers that speed, this is the router to buy! If you need more coverage and/or want a mesh setup with this router, simply buy a second one! It’s that easy!! Seriously! Mine AUTOMATICALLY CONNECTED WITH AI MESH BEFORE I COULD EVEN GET THE APP OPEN! This not only surprised me, but impressed me to no end. NOTE: With a router of this level, I HIGHLY recommend that if you add more routers/mesh points to this router that you use an ethernet cable to the “satellites” (the additional routers) and I highly recommend using the 10gigabit ports even if you don’t have fast internet because having more speed inside your network/house WILL help significantly with Latency (Latency is the amount of time it takes things to load/initially show up, the amount of time it takes to connect to the server). It also helps if you have a NAS or utilize the built in file server! If you are downloading or uploading to your NAS/file server you WILL use more than 1gig, having a 10 gig capacity is crucial. MOVING ON, I absolutely LOVE the multi-WAN option. This allows you to connect more than one internet connection! You can choose to have it operate in two modes, the default is WAN port 1 is the default internet connection and WAN port 2 is the backup internet connection. Should your primary/fast internet connection go down, it will automatically switch to WAN 2. NOTE: HEADS UP, if you have AT&T Internet, this function does NOT work IF your internet line is CUT or loses signal but your AT&T Box STAYS ON, I figured out that this is because AT&T redirects your internet traffic to a web page displaying why your internet isn’t working like “Fiber signal lost! Here’s how to troubleshoot.” Since it redirects ALL traffic to this page, every ping to CloudFlare for example technically resolves/works & gets a response. Thats all that the router checks for. It doesnt check if that ping ended at a local address like 192.168.1.254. If Asus could fix this that would be fantastic! The SECOND MODE of WAN operation is “Load Balancing” which allows you to use two internet connections at the same time. This is helpful if you can only get two slow internet connections, you can then theoretically double your speed. You DO have the option of setting how balanced it is in case you have one fast connection and one slower one. If you’re lucky enough to have two or more Fiber internet providers, You can also use this get even faster total internet speeds. WiFi 7 compliments this well. You can also connect a USB hotspot to one of the two USB ports (you can do two hotspots iirc) and it literally instantly picks it up and sends you a push notification saying the backup WAN connection is ready! That fast! You can also set it to load balancing if you happen to have a hotspot with unlimited high speed data. You can also aggregate LAN ports 1 & 2 if you have a NAS for example. There are so many other features about this router that I havent even touched on but these are my most important/primary points. All in all I think this router is pretty worth the $700 price tag. I just wish I could buy a pack of 3 at a reduced price or something since I have a large concrete house and $700 a pop is not cheap when you’re buying more than one.

If you get a GB or better on your ISPs fiber internet connection you will get the full bandwidth!! Been a dang blast really! Easy-peasy set-up, was rockin within a few minutes! Spendy, but speed does cost money, how fast ya wanna go? (Still cheaper than building a race car!!!)
Range? 5400 sqft like it says. No point for AIMesh unless you need WIFI 7 everywhere too. I know now 6Ghz is a very, very quiet band. No neighbors has such available either. I now get 950Mbits up and down on iPhone15 Pro Max. IPad Pro, Macbook, PC, and PS5. I can’t find a speed test for Apple Watch Ultra2. YT in 4k more often than not. And mom’s tv works better now. She’s happy despite not knowing the tech. :-D (HEH! Got an emoji in there too!)

Purchased this to replace my Asus AXE11000 and its four ET8 mesh nodes. I use 6GHz client equipment in my home that is MLO compatible and Asus updates eventually destroyed client 6GHz signals from the ET8 mesh nodes.
The GT-BE98 Pro gives me much more powerful signals across all bands and allows me to use less mesh nodes. Since I wanted to take full advantage of MLO i purchased a second GT-BE98 Pro and had already purchased a BE96U that i have been using with the AXE11000 as mesh nodes to my first GT-BE98 Pro. The AXE11000 client connections at 6GHz were just a bit weak so I decided to get this to replace it as a long term solution. I will just use the AXE11000 in the 40' x 50' garage I have behind my home. There is even a possibility Asus will eventually make the BE96U fully MLO compatible with the two MLO GT-BE98 Pro units. The BE96U is MLO compatible now but only with another BE96U as a main or node - just as are the two GT-BE98 Pro routers. It too is a strong unit only with 19000 mbps throughput and one less 6GHz band.

Ordered this router to replace an older router with 8 antennas and different company. Consumer Report had good review, so I bought this router back in early June.
Setup was relatively easy and was able to set it up without connecting to modem and old router, so the switchover was as short as possible.
It has a great iPhone app as well. One can watch the internet traffic through the router in real time in totality and each channel. Rather interesting to discover what the traffic is.
The bad part is that the 2.4 GHz band is rather slow.
The 5 GHz band speed tests above what I pay for, 600megabits down.
The 2.4 band can only do 130megabits but the specs show over 1 gigabits max. I certainly understand that the max is not reachable but the should be capable of at least 450 megabits download easily.
Contacted support and so far with over 15 different exchanges and trials switching off certain setting, nothing improved the speed. Excuses are plenty though.
While Asus support sends emails, it seems they don't respond to email responses back but rather wants it in the "feedback" tab under Administration in the router's setup page.
I also suspect the issue caused by the inability to turn off the 802.11b/g protocol and being able to use the 802.11N protocol only in the 2.4 band.
So, overall, disappointing

I love this thing. I bought it to replace my CAX80's failing Wifi Radio and it did so perfectly. Not only did it replace that, it also replaced my Raspberry Pi and PiVPN along with it. Built in adblock/dns selection, and VPN tunnels (all standards both in and out) has made this _THE_ router to beat.
Now, there have definitely been issues. New ASUS products typically have growing pains and this device is no exception. That being said, they're fairly quick with the firmware updates to fix said issues.
Right now the most notable issue is with the smart-connect configuration and the 5G bands not working quite right.

Snappy and great value when you buy at 380. On sale at 440 + 15% off with Best Buy's running networking recycle discount. Can be flashed with Merlin Firmware for running amtm and Diversion (ad-blocker).
I do wish the 6 GHz band had a larger range, but general bandwidth speeds are greater than the model above this one (with 1 less band).

As the title implies, this router has a large footprint. Not a problem for me because of where I placed it in the living room. I bought it primarily for its mesh capability and future proofing. It replaced a NightHawk AX router with an ASUS RT86U AX router attached as a bridge and an RT82U AX router attached as an extender (repeater). This is in a 2 story 2,000 sq ft townhouse with about 25 devices routinely connected -- home entertainment systems, desktops, laptops, XBOX, and Alexa devices. The connections were OK but at the opposite end of the house from the router, the master bedroom, the connections were a little weak at times.
It so happens that the 2 referenced ASUS routers have AI mesh capability along with this router. I set this router up with 3 separate networks -- 2.4, 5, and 6 and the 2 older ASUS routers as AI Mesh nodes. Now I have solid connections everywhere! The devices downstairs connect to the router, and the 2 nodes upstairs have the devices connected that they are supposed to have and in the correct network (smart plugs on 2.4 and desktops on 5 for example).
The only reason I down graded this one star was a slight difficulty in setting up the 2 upstairs mesh nodes. I had to reset each one a couple of times and reconnect as nodes. The unsuccessful attempts were due to the nodes connecting weakly on 2.4 ghz then disconnecting. The successful connections started out that way but switched to 5 qhz which was what I wanted in the first place! Once connected, as stated above, the devices that should connect to 2.4 did and the devices that should connect to 5 did. My phone can and does connect to 6 ghz and a speed test was ridiculously fast.
Overall I am pleased with this and except for those little node setup hiccups was extremely easy and the mesh network has been operating in a very stable manner. At present, I recommend this router -- even with its "pricey" price. Since I can't update reviews on BB, if something changes or degrades, I will post it as a comment to the review.

I would give the ASUS BE96U a 4.5 out of 5. The router works great and has very good bandwidth. Basic setup is easy and streamlined and can be completed on your phone or using a wireless connection from a computer. The app is amazing and gives you a lot of QOL features and functions that were not available with my old router.Setting up some of the advanced features, however, will sometimes modify the basic features when you don’t want them to change. For example, I set up a guest network after my basic network was done and it changed my WIFI passwords on my basic network. I highly recommend if you are using any of the advanced features (guest network, private vpn, etc), make sure you have a wired connection to the router. 6GHz channel is very short distance (10-15’) not because of the router but because of the frequency.

This replaced a 2 year old ASUS ROG Rapture WiFi 6 GT-AX11000 router. That router worked ok but never would show the 1GB download speed that I had. This router out of the gate was over 1gb/s; it auto-downloaded the new firmware and setup was easy. Whatever issues they had previously (from other reviews), are gone. This is a MONSTER router and works flawlessly. Don't hesitate to get.

I like the router, I do. But I think I changed up too fast. Replaced a RT-AX86U pro with this. Wouldnt have if I dodnt work for best buy.I have a 1gig optic connection. This router is sooo not a rock when connecting to an ONT. I crimge everytime the router reboots for fear Ill have to factory reset it again to talk to the ont. That being said the download speed never matches with what even the speestest on the QOS speedtest in the asus gui. Which is good. The router is getting a 1060 Mbps speed and never going above 700 for any 1 client. No matter what wired, wifi, any device gets 500-700 on a 1 gig connection. Most of the time 40-600.Same held true with rhe AX86U. Even put asuswrt merlin on it to help improve download. Zilch. Rhe upside, the upload speeds increased a good ammount from the previous router. So if your upload speeds are your concern get it. But if ya have a retevily new routerI wouldnt seperate from your money. The ont issue set aside. I feel the router isnt taking advantage of even a 1gig xonnection. Wired orot.

This is an amazing wifi router. It reaches our entire house when others couldn't.
That being said, it wasn't exactly plug and play and took a lot of combing through settings to figure out why it wasn't connecting. After it was set though, we haven't had any issues with it. It is a massive piece of machinery though, so it looks like a dead spider or upside down crab on our table. It's hilarious, but it works!

Overall, the quality of the product is good. However, I did have to send my first one back because one of the antennas was broken. That said, the packaging was great, and the product itself is much larger than I was expecting.
There are a few downsides, though. Every time I make changes to the settings, the router needs to reboot, which can be a bit frustrating. I’ve also had issues with my TVs showing "no internet" despite being connected, even after making sure VPNs are off. The Wi-Fi connection can feel slow at times, as if the network is congested. I find myself rebooting the router more than I think is necessary.
I do love that I'm able to configure my VPN directly into the router. However, speeds seem to suffer when the VPN is enabled, though I’m not entirely sure if that’s due to the router or the VPN provider. When I enable the VPN via my mobile phone’s app, the speeds seem much faster than when connected through the router.
Additionally, the interface used to configure the settings could be more user-friendly. It feels overwhelming and looks outdated, which makes adjustments a bit of a hassle. While the router generally works well, these issues can be a bit annoying.

overall it was fairly easy to setup, if you have some experience with routers. The two wifi 6 channels work really well, the third wifi 7 channel seems to drop at times, but not sure if it is the devices I am using. (Samsung galaxy phone). Covers the whole house, including basement and upstairs with the router on the first floor.

AI Mesh stability issues

Primary router works fine and the features are great, but adding a second for AI Mesh did not. Setup seemed easy from the UI at first, and did eventually work, but the AI Mesh node showed Disconnected after about a day. Attempts to reconnect were unsuccessful over a couple days, so finally reset the node and added it again, only to have the same failure for the node to stay connected to the mesh. Did this several times. Also, when it was connected the Devices would mostly remain connected to the primary router downstairs instead of switching to the mesh node within the same room upstairs. Returned second router to store, primary still works okay. Fine as a single router (5 stars) but do not recommend for mesh. (2 stars)

I was a little reluctant to purchase this router because of price and wifi 7 not being finalized. I'm more than happy i purchased it though. Its brain dead easy to set up and works extremely well. My old wifi i would only get 200-300 mb/s on my Google Pixel 7pro but with the new asus router it jumped to 1.2 gb/s. My network has anywhere from 15-25 wifi devices running at a time without a single issue. The app gives so much control over what the router can and cannot do. Very much worth the price.
