As a frequent traveler and someone who would rather game at night than hit up the hotel lounge and trade business cards, the latest ASUS TUF F15 Gaming Laptop immediately caught my attention. With its powerful Intel Core i7 and RTX 4070 for graphics, I had my eyes on a laptop ready to tackle both work and play with ease. TL/DR: I was right. (But read my review anyway) Unboxing Experience: The unboxing of the TUF made me feel like I was unveiling a high-tech gadget from a Bond movie. The laptop is securely nestled within a custom-cut that sits atop the pockets for the charger. ASUS always does well here, but it definitely has a different feel than the ROG line of ASUS that I’m more familiar with. The solid utility construction of the box complements the ruggedness of the laptop. Design and Build: The TUF F15 is surprisingly more lightweight and slim than it looks in pictures. While it will never be mistaken for an ultrabook, weighing 4.85 lbs and measuring 0.89 inches thick, the way the base tapers creates the illusion that it’s thinner than it really is. The build quality is solid despite an all-plastic exterior. While ASUS claims that the TUF line is designed to military specs for drops, vibrations, and humidity, I’m not sure that I’d purchase for this reason only. If I’m a contractor on a job site or someone lugging this around in extreme conditions I would look for something else. I think of this ruggedness more designed for the gamer who’s on the go a lot and throws their laptop in a backpack to game on the go. Processor: The Intel Core i7-13620H processor in this TUF F15 has so far handled both gaming and multitasking efficiently. I generally put processors to its paces with complex database files and spreadsheets with macros and it performed extremely well, nearly on par to my desktop that cost considerably more. Over the weekend I put the TUF F15 through the paces with lots of gaming across sports, FPS, and racing games. Performance wise I had zero issues. My only complaints had to do with fan management. Graphics: The NVIDIA RTX 4070 GPU certainly delivered beautiful visuals. When Playing NFS I was really impressed with how detailed the background rendered. It’s been a minute since I broke that game out, but swear I saw more detail especially around the shading of the vehicles than I’ve noticed previously. Display: The 144Hz screen on the ASUS TUF F15 was amazing on fast-paced games like Battlefield and NFS. For the most part I noticed smooth motion with minimal screen tearing. The matte finish on the screen performed well even with modest light like in my office or even next to a window on a plane, but when attempting to play outside the detail was certainly lost. I might have preferred more nits for the TUF display. Connectivity: I was particularly impressed with the array of ports, including a Thunderbolt 4 port. This was handy for connecting my external hard drive for some light video editing of 4k footage. However, I encountered some issues when trying to connect my LG Ultrafine 5K monitor. Initially, it looks like it wanted to connect, but the connection was unstable, which was disappointing as I hoped to use this setup for professional tasks on my higher resolution monitor at home in addition to gaming on the go. Cooling and Noise: As a gaming geared system, heat management definitely takes priority over fan noise, and that was certainly the case here. There were multiple times during gameplay that the fans kicked into high gear. To its credit, the gameplay never stuttered, but I can’t say the noise wasn’t distracting. Conclusion: The ASUS TUF F15 is a strong contender in the portable gaming laptop market. It combines solid performance, great visuals, and good build quality in a semi-lightweight and stylish package. While it excels in gaming, professionals might find the gaming style and colorful keyboard to be less professional. Despite this, for anyone looking for a dependable and portable gaming laptop, the TUF F15 should definitely be considered.

This Laptop is incredible when it doesn't crash. When we first received the laptop it had a bad installation of Windows 11 so I had assumed it would be a simple reinstall to get the machine up and running. I was very wrong, IU have had the laptop for 3 months and I have been unable to go a single day without the machine crashing to BSOD. ASUS support has been no help in this matter, when I called for support the agent would read me the FAQ articles they posted online and when it was "Escalated" I was sent an email 2 days later with a link to a youtube video... Very disappointed in this laptop, and ASUS as they have previously made excellent products.

      Dear DBWADE,

      Thank you for your comment.

We do understand your dissatisfaction with the quality of the product and your recent customer service experience and the inconvenience this may have caused. All ASUS products undergo intensive quality control testing and inspections, and are built to last. The BSOD is most likely related to a corrupted OS. If local factory reset didn't resolve the issue, try to perform a Cloud Recovery. For helpful tips on how to successfully run a Cloud Recovery, visit our Product Support page at:  https://www.asus.com/support/faq/1047855/ . If the problem persists, we recommend to send the product in for service to determine if this is a hardware issue so this may be resolved immediately. An RMA number is required to send it in for service. For RMA details, please go to: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/818/.

We do value our customers and take negative customer service experience very seriously. This is not the quality of service expected from ASUS. We do support and stand behind our products, and we continuously strive to improve our approach and processes in order to achieve customer service excellence. If you need further assistance with the warranty service for the product, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help. This is my review of the ASUS TUF Gaming Laptop Unboxing: Excellent packaging with an outer box with 5 different sheets of bubble wrap, and then the laptop and accessories themselves were in an inner box. Needless to say, the computer arrived in pristine condition. Inside the box, you have 2 sections; one with the laptop itself, the other with the power brick, some stickers, and a QuickStart guide and other slips of documentation. The power brick is large, heavy, and confidence inspiring. The laptop is also on the heavier side, and I’m glad it is! They didn’t skimp on the case or any other components here, and it shows. I love the keyboard layout with the separate numeric keypad, large keys, and silent touch with great key travel/feedback. TUF isn't just the model name, but a true representation of the build quality. First power on: Pretty standard experience here, getting Windows 11 updated, registering the product, connecting to Wi-Fi, etc. It took about half an hour total to get everything connected, registered, and updated to where I could actually start using the computer. Getting down to business: On the top row of buttons, which include speaker and microphone controls, the 4th button launches “Armoury Crate”, which has the best GUI for system control I have ever experienced. It displays in detail what each “Mode” does for Cooling, Noise Reduction, Energy Saving, GPU Performance, and CPU Performance. This GUI also offers complete backlit LED lights with multiple different functions to choose from. These functions are very user friendly and can be used to change the backlit keys to any color or rotate through a rainbow of colors. One of my favorite settings is “breathe”, where you choose a color and the keyboard fades in and out in that color. One thing you’ll want to immediately do as a gamer is set the refresh rate from the default 60hz to 144hz, which can be found under Display Settings/Advanced Display. This will greatly enhance game play especially, but even mundane tasks like resizing or moving a window around the screen is noticeably more fluid; 60hz feels downright choppy in comparison. Be sure to update the video drivers after getting your account set up with NVIDIA to further enhance the graphic experience. Constructive criticism: Of course, no computer is perfect, and this computer did indeed give me a couple things to grumble about: I could have done without Spotify and LinkedIn apps coming pre-installed; to me, less is more when it comes to preinstalled software. The video quality from the camera was only average, giving me 720p @ 30fps, although the microphone quality was first rate. When playing Rocket League, it would not record at HD quality while in game, but game play was absolutely amazing when not recording, substantially better than my prior gaming laptop this replaces. My prior gaming laptop had a fingerprint reader which this computer lacks, but I can live without that. Final verdict: This is an absolute BEAST of a laptop, especially for the price. The NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 is definitely the highlight, creating advantages while gaming due to the amazing graphic performance. The laptop remains cool on my lap thanks to the dual fans, which run nearly silently. The terabyte hard drive (926gb usable) offers plenty of storage. The backlit keyboard with the myriad of keyboard lighting options is both fun and practical. In short, I love it, and would enthusiastically recommend it to anyone, especially the performance hungry gamer.

My last gaming laptop weighed nearly ten pounds and left unplugged would run for 2-3 hours depending on settings. It plays the heck out of just about any game I throw at it but at the cost of back breaking weight for gaming the length of a tutorial. When I got a chance to try the Asus TUF F15 (FX507VI, if that helps) the first thing I noticed was how it looked like any other laptop. The outside is plain black with the TUF logo but no lights or wild embellishments, it weighs as much as the productivity laptop I usually take to school or work. Upon opening the computer suddenly the "gaming" identity is visible as the keyboard is an ever changing RGB light show. The full HD screen is 15.6 inches and capable of 144hz refresh, the hard drive is a standard 1tb SSD, 16gb of RAM, speakers on the bottom, 2.4ghz i7 processor, an HDMI port, a USB-A port, two USB-C (one of which is thunderbolt), and RTX 4070 laptop GPU…so this is almost opposite the Chromebook you might slip in your backpack for work. Charging cable is a 240w brick that connects with a round plug as opposed to USB-C like other recent laptops I’ve seen. With any laptop I start by looking up recent PC games to see “can I run it” and with Tuf F15 there are more you CAN run than CAN’T run. Cyberpunk 2077 and Alan Wake 2 both show they’ll run minimum settings but the recommended settings claim the CPU isn’t up to par (although I suspect there are ways to overclock and make it work if you want to). All the other big titles you’d want are ready to go out of the box: Red Dead Redemption 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, GTA V, Hogwarts Legacy. It just seems like if you want to play games on the go this laptop is going to feast on whatever your favorite game is. Battery was a bit of an issue though. I took the laptop out of the box and per instructions I charged it for at least three hours (I think it was closer to five) then I powered it on and used it til it died. The default settings let the laptop run for just over three hours. I charged it up overnight back to 100% and tried again with brightness lowered to about half which got me an extra hour and change. This isn’t going to run your games on high settings very well if you’re away from an outlet so keep that in mind if longevity matters to you. The other big feature of this laptop is the military grade drop protection. At the price these laptops run I did NOT start tossing it off the roof of my house or even purposely dropping it to see if it breaks. Just know that the company made a claim, register your product to activate your warranty, and try not to ever need drop protection but know that it’s supposedly there just in case! It does everything else with such gusto I don’t really have cause to doubt the drop toughness but its just not worth pushing your luck to prove a point, ya know? If you need a gaming laptop I would recommend this over other gaming laptops which are “out of this world” as the pricing seems similar enough but the weight difference and ability to play more games out of the box make this more attractive to me.

Bought for Black Friday, blue screened due to defective SSD within 3 weeks. Got a replacement, blue screened due to defective SSD within four weeks of light use. Thanks to Best Buy for honoring the return(s) but this is a busted build. The specs to price felt a bit too good to be true, and here we are. Not sure if the Samsung SSDs are defective or the build has them too close to heat, but either way, hope you saved your packaging or are willing to buy a replacement SSD for science.
