Customers are enthusiastic about the picture quality, refresh rate, and price of the TUF 23.8” FHD 165Hz monitor. Many appreciate the vibrant colors and the inclusion of built-in speakers, while some users noted issues with ghosting and the lack of a fully adjustable stand. ASUS has been one of my top brands for computer components (for self-built systems), pre-built computers, and monitors for at least the past 15 years. I've been using two ASUS VE247H monitors (as a part of my 3-monitor) setup for the past 9 years. While those are still great monitors, with 2ms response times, and great contrast ratio (at least near the top when I first got them), I've been getting back into gaming more, and am now looking to start replacing my monitors with specs/capabilities better suited for gaming. My first step in this process was to try out the ASUS - TUF 23.8” FHD 165Hz Gaming Monitor (model VG247QR1A). After getting it out and set up (which is quick and easy with one step to get the stand put together (for trying it out)), my initial impression was positive. The minimal left/top/right bezel (which seems to be the norm for monitors and TVs nowadays) and just under .75" on the bottom has it looking nice. For inputs, it has one DisplayPort and two HDMI (which is nice to have two HDMI instead of one of those being DVI that used to be the norm, even with my newest 27" monitor I got 4 years ago). Also, while I won't be using it since I have a USB-connected headset, it does have a 3.5mm earphone jack in the back near the video inputs. I tried the monitor on my main gaming system that has an Nvidia GeForce 2070 RTX, as well as a new system that my boys use that has an Nvidia GeForce 3060 RTX. While this monitor has AMD FreeSync Premium instead of G-SYNC, I was still able to enable G-SYNC in the Nvidia Control Panel for it, but only when using the DisplayPort connection (not HDMI). Also, the max refresh rate with HDMI is 144Hz, while getting the full 165Hz with DisplayPort. The game play was great, no matter which system! For about 99.8% of the time, it maintained the full 165Hz, but only dipped down to maybe 158Hz on a few occasions. For my space fighter modes in the game I play the most, everything stays so smooth (even with all the detail settings maxed out). Colors are great, blacks are great, pretty much everything related to the display is great. It also works great in non-gaming when I'm working during the day. The main issue I have with the monitor is related to the buttons. A combination of the location of the buttons - being on the back (just behind the bottom right corner when looking at the screen) - along with design where there is not a single button to initiate changing between input, is not ideal for my mounted, 3-monitor [24"][27"][24"], multi-system setup (work laptop during weekdays and home computer in the evenings/weekends). To change the input, you have to use the control joystick to display the main menu, then go to the input menu, then eventually select the input (which is not exactly horrible, but not a quick as what I have been used to). The only easy thing about it is that it does at least select my home computer input automatically when I shut down my work laptop. My older Asus VE247H monitors (which I am still using one as one of the 3), as well as my middle 27" other-brand monitor, have the buttons on the bottom and had a separate button for selecting the input, which was all easier. For the location issue, while the power button is easy enough to reach from just under the bottom edge, the rest of the buttons go up from there. I currently have it mounted as the far right monitor, so I can still get to the buttons and control stick from the side. But I probably would not get another one of this model to replace my far left 24" one for the lesser ease of accessibility to the buttons (for changing the input). Another slight issue I had was the design of the curve on the back in relation to the VESA mounts. The back starts curving towards the front of the monitor as it progresses from just below the bottom set of mounts. My previous VE247H was at least symmetrical for the mounts in relation from Top-Bottom and Left-Right, even with the left to right curving across the complete back of the monitor. When switching out the monitors on the mounting arm, I ended up having to go look through my mount boxes, hoping one that still had leftover spacers so I could get it attached to the mount arm without needing to tilt the mount (and lose the ability to keep the mounts screws flush as I tightened). The only other thing I noticed (which isn't really too big of an issue) is that it still takes about 7-8 seconds when turning the monitor on to when it finally displays (similar to my older VE247H). I was hoping it would be a little faster by now. In comparison, my 27" from a well-known company is completely on and ready in just over 2 seconds. For the FHD range of 24" gaming monitors, with the available 165Hz refresh rate, AMD FreeSync Premium, and 1ms response time, I think this does stand out at a decent price point. Just be sure to take in consideration your setup (system and physical) to make sure this monitor will meet all your needs.

Upon unboxing this product, I was welcomed by a display with fingerprints all over it, a missing manual, and scotch tape. This isn't the first Asus monitor i've had issues with either, my last one developed multiple dead pixels after the warranty expired. I'd like to think that was just a one off thing that surely wouldn't happen again... but man did this second monitor prove me wrong. Returned this product and will never be buying another monitor from this brand again.

    Excellent Pocket Friendly Gaming/Office Monitor

SUMMARY, PROs and CONs ------------ A great full HD gaming monitor with a tons of features, great blacks and vivid colors with 165 Hrz refresh ratio for a no lag gaming experience. Its Freesync enabled and makes games very fluid without any lag. It has included speakers, has 2 HDMI + 1 Display port and also has a jack for headphones. You will not feel any lack of port. Great monitor for gaming and work from home. Only bummer is lack of webcam for zoom calls but this was meant for gaming. Great value. Pros ------ 1. ~24 inch gaming monitor with minimal bezel. 2. Freesync technology for no lag. 3. Includes HDMI and DisplayPort cable 4. Good value. 5. Excellent Black and vivid colors 6. Excellent viewing angles. Cons ------ 1. Wish it had a webcam SETUP & BUILD -------------------- Excellent build quality and nicely placed logs really make this monitor look very high end. The setups is easy, connect the PC OR XBOX OR PS4,5 using the HDMI cable or the Display cable and you are good to go. Nothing to configure and I would not resize the window as it comes pre-set, don’t change it. All the buttons are on the backside which is a good thing because once set, you will not have the need to change it. Few of the buttons namely - power, adjusting brightness, color, Game visual button - for different settings depending on games, Game plus button for activating cross hair etc. USAGE --------- Really loved playing Forza, Call of Duty and some of these games have dark images and even without the shadow boost, I could see things clearly. The gaming experience was basically blurry and stutter free and very happy to let you know that the 165Hz refresh rate and freesync really comes handy here. The Ultra blue light tech really helps when you are playing through some of the bright games and protects the eye. Multiple ports really helps switch between gaming devices an PC. Overall for the features, this monitor is a great value and happy to recommend.

For whatever reason, the color on this monitor is extremely yellow and I can't get it to change no matter how much calibration I do. Disappointed, but I guess not surprised, for the value I got it for. The speakers are also extremely low quality, but you get what you pay for. I just expected better for $130. The attached image is showing my usual gaming monitor on the left, and this ASUS monitor on the right.

This ASUS TUF monitor is awesome for the price. The 165Hz refresh rate makes games look super smooth, and the 1ms response time is great for fast action. I use it for both gaming and work, and the picture quality is sharp and colorful. Setup was easy, and it comes with both HDMI and DisplayPort cables. The stand only tilts, but it works fine on my desk. It even has built-in speakers, which are okay in a pinch. Overall, really happy with this monitor—especially for the price. Highly recommend for gamers or anyone upgrading from a basic screen.

I was excited about the prospect of the TUF gaming monitor. Asus has come a long way with their excellent laptops, and now they have a TUF gaming monitor. It has features such as 165hz refresh rate and a 1ms response time. The design is your typical modern monitor. As it stands, it is eclipsed by my 27 and 32 inch monitor. It's like the baby brother of the bunch. The bezels are fairly thin, so that's a nice feature. It has 2 HDMI ports a display port, and a headphone jack. It comes with a display port to display port cable and a HDMI to HDMI cable. I wish it came with a USB-C to display port so that I can plug it in to my dock, alas, it does not. There are no RGB lights on this monitor, it's pretty bare bones. You have four physical buttons on the back, and one of them is actually a joystick style controller to make selecting the options easier. The options are your typical affair of game style options, color temperature, brightness, contrast, freesync, and others. Out of the box the colors are pretty muted. I played a few rounds of my favorite military FPS, and handled the quick movements quite well. The one feature that surprised me is that there are speakers on the monitor. They actually sound pretty decent. Monitor speakers are pretty awful in most cases, but these weren't too bad. I still prefer to use my wireless headphones, but I guess the speakers are a good third or fourth option if the speakers on your laptop also go out. All in all, it's a fairly basic monitor. No thrills, no frills, but it functions like a gaming monitor should. The price is a good selling point.

The TUF Gaming VG247QR1A monitor offers HDR, high contrast & brightness with a wide gamut color coverage. Fast-paced gaming is blur/screen tearing free with an 165Hz refresh rate & IPS screen has a 1ms response time, it has ELMB SYNC with VRR & AMD Free Sync Premium technologies. This monitor is decently built for a budget display, and it does not feel cheap like some of its competitors in its segment with performance that rivals some higher-end LCD’s. Negatives: Limited tilt positions on stand. No USB-C port. Monitor has an aggressive gaming design with an easy to clean & maintain matte chassis, display is bezel-free. The size & weight makes it ideal to take to a LAN party and more portable in general. The Asus VG247QR1A has a user-friendly control layout with a OSD joystick for easy access along with some hotkeys features that you normally see in higher-end monitors. You will have a good gaming experience on this monitor with good color & contrast, all game I tried look vibrant, sharp with no motion blur during intense action. Overall, a great monitor If you are in the market for a monitor that's 1080p, IPS, 1ms, 2 types of Sync & 165hz.

Impressive Gaming Monitor at a Reasonable Price

The ASUS TUF Gaming VG247Q1A 23.8" Monitor is an impressive performer for the price. I use this monitor with a custom built gaming desktop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card, Enabled G-SYNC, AMD Ryzen 7 3700X 8-Core CPU at 4.26Ghz, Windows 10 Home, 16GB DDR4 memory, and a 1TB SS Drive. My connection to the monitor is via the DisplayPort. The unboxing and setup went smoothly. The ports are clearly marked and easy to access. The base is a nice size for supporting the monitor but not too big on the desktop. The stand and display have a durable build quality. The monitor can be tilted forward and back. This monitor is a true performer for gaming. My primary games are Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 and No Mans Sky. I use high quality graphics settings in these and there was no ghosting, motion blur, or choppy frames. I am very impressed with how well the monitor handles Flight Simulator. When flying low over complex terrain or buildings, there was no lag in the refresh. Right out of the box, the color accuracy was excellent. The built-in speakers are okay if you don't have any other options. The joystick control for the monitor menu and settings is a nice touch. There are way too many settings and options to bring up here; however, I really appreciate the ability to switch between seven different visual gaming modes. I use Racing mode for Flight Simulator and FPS mode for No Mans Sky. I also like the Shadow Boost settings for enhancing the graphics in dark areas of the screen. This is great for Flight Simulator instrument panels and seeing deep space details in No Mans Sky. Novabench Test Scores GPU Score: 1134 Direct3D11: 194 FPS OpenCL: 6658 GFLOPS 44% better than Mid-level Gaming PC EIZO Monitor Test Test Pattern: Clean, crisp, and uniform. No defective pixels Uniformity: Barely perceptible banding. Color Distances: RGB value difference of 3 could still perceive color differences. Overall: For a reasonably priced 1920x1080 monitor, at 23.8", with a 165Hz refresh rate, it is a strong contender with the crazy fast response time and remarkable color accuracy. Features • Non-glare, LED, 23.8 inch, 1920 x 1080 (Full HD) • 1ms MPRT response time • FreeSync (AMD) and Adaptive-Sync (NVIDIA) support • Extreme Low Motion Blur technology • Shadow Boost settings for highlighting images in darkened areas • One DisplayPort 1.2, 2 HDMI 1.4 ports, and an Earphone jack. • 178 degree viewing angles • Aspect Ratio : 16:9 • Contrast Ratio: 3000:1 • 16.7M colors • Low Blue Light settings

The Asus Tuf 23.8” Gaming Monitor delivers modern gaming features yet won’t break the bank. At the price it is an exceptionally strong gaming monitor with the bells and whistles included. Out of the box is the monitor itself, stand, power cable, HDMI cable, and a DisplayPort cable. Stand assembly is very simple with only one hand screw. Stand adjustment is limited only to tilt. Solid feature set includes a 165Hz refresh rate, FreeSync Technology, 1ms response time, and a 1080p display. Monitor has 2 HDMI 1.4 ports, 1 DisplayPort 1.2, and a 3.5mm audio jack. WLED display has a high level of ghosting which is apparent when dragging windows. I recommend an overdrive level of 2 or 3 to combat this issue. This monitor does not support HDR. Monitor has a very thin bezel, and viewing angles are superb. Display also emits no noticeable backlight bleed, even in a dark room. Nice. Believe the monitor will support ASUS DisplayWidget Lite which is an excellent software tool for quickly managing the monitor and game play performance. Gaming performance is spot on, gorgeous graphics, minimum glare even in direct light source, with an excellent control panel. Like the addition of the joystick style control selector. The control buttons are larger than most making control selection easy, nice feature. Overall, the Asus Tuf 23.8” Gaming Monitor boasts a significant number of features for the price point.

Bought this during a sale and I feel like I robbed! This monitor quality is beyond my expectations, it has an incredible resolution for a led screen, the integrated audio might not be the best, but that headphone mini jack port makes it easy to enjoy of any kind of content as an an immersive experience. I love the gaming features like the different settings to choose from cinema mode to watch something or FPS mode for competitive gaming. I also like the option to have an aim in your screen, it feels like cheating when playing shooting games. Absolutely recommended, if I ever find this in sale I’ll get another one!!

Awesome definition and great frame rate for the price. I don’t particularly care for 240hz monitors because I personally can’t see much of a difference so 165 is enough and a bit more than the standard 144. Would recommend to anyone that is in a similar ball park and does not want to pay an excessive amount for 240hz.

Really good monitor. I bought this to use for my computer's main screen since it was a computer tower by itself. The refresh rate is what kept me using it. Another interesting part about it is that it actually has built-in speakers. While they aren't the best in terms of sound, it does the job and just having speakers is an added bonus for me.

I love it. My games look and feel so much better with the higher refresh rate. Colors are grate, and the size is perfect for the space I have it in. Con: doesn't do HDR, despite the listing. Windows does not see it as a monitor that supports it and that's with the drivers from Asus. But, I'm not complaining, given the price I got it for.

Best priced 165hz monitor I could find and that canceled out the cons for me. The asus controls/buttons suck really bad, they are poorly labeled and you have to turn the monitor around to use them. Luckily if you need to switch imputs you can just turn off everything but the input you want. If you switch inputs without powering down devices this is not really a good choice.
