Regrettable
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Just not worth it, a 1080p 23.8 inch monitor is just a horrible value. Even with the deal I got it at (~130) it was just a bad purchase.

Feature filled monitor for gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus Tuf Gaming VG247Q1A is a great 23” piece of kit. This monitor is no basic setup. It sports a 165Hz refresh rate, VA panel, Freesync 2 Premium, ELMB, and a great selection of modern ports (1 Displayport and 2xHDMI 1.4). Top it all off with 2x2w speakers, this monitor is ready to roll. It’s lightweight and takes a standard PC power cable (meaning no wall warts). Overall this monitor's features to price are a great balance. First of all, the Tuf Gaming VG1A comes with a basic tilt stand, but does support standard 100mm VESA mounts. It's weighted enough to be stable, but it’s pretty basic. The casing of the monitor is plastic - of a matte variety with some flare. The bezels are quite small, with only a slightly larger ‘chin’ at the bottom of the monitor. On the right side you’ll find the buttons - 4 - plus a joystick button where the primary functions and menus are accessible. The bottom most button is the power button, and others are used for quick navigation to features like Asus’s GamePlus mode. These buttons can be customized to different features, like quick brightness or speaker volume. Port wise, there is a Displayport 1.2, and 2 HDMI 1.4 ports - more than enough to run the 165Hz 1080p resolution this monitor supports. A Kensington lock exists on the back left side. Additionally there is a 3.5mm headphone jack for either hooking up a headset or speakers. Speaking of speakers, at this price point it’s odd to see speakers included - especially in a monitor that is already jam packed with features. The speakers are definitely nothing to write home about, but they are there and work in a pinch. Sometimes it’s handy to have something to provide basic sound support while your headset is charging. There are no USB or other ports on the monitor. Again, hard to complain at this price point, but a USB hub with charging capabilities would have made this a hard monitor to pass up. The panel itself is a decent VA panel. VA panels offer deeper contrast and better uniformity than many of the cheaper IPS panels out there. They tend to be slower, and perhaps don’t have the same color as IPS. That said, it’s hard to tell the difference, and the sample of this monitor seems to do well. There is plenty of motion blur, but the ELMB helps tremendously. Of course that disables Freesync, which truly is of more use for FPS and other high refresh rate esports titles. Speaking of Freesync, Nvidia G-Sync worked perfectly and hit the range of 48-165Hz variable. The panel’s intrinsic qualities are pretty good black and gray uniformity. There is no backlight bleed. The panel’s backlight is DC driven, so flicker free. The VA panel tends to smear a bit more than IPS and especially TN, and the built in overdrive does compensate a bit. There is ghosting, but it’s not especially noticeable. No dead pixels and overall it’s a great looking display. The brightness is limited, but sufficient for gaming and office use. Asus’s GamePlus offers some interesting features. The crosshair is probably the least useful, but I do like the FPS counter when running freesync. It even offers a graph that can show framerate stability. The timer is useful when you want to give yourself a timer to keep a session limited. I like that you can move the timer and framerate counters around using the joystick. The display alignment I suppose could be helpful in a multi-monitor setup, but I’m not sure. There are a whole other host of features, like the blue light filter, ASCR, and VividPixel - which you may or may not like to use. Frankly these are nice extras, and still applicable for some consoles, but I’d rather let my OS worry about my blue light filter, and VividPixel can overdo it sometimes with sharpness (best leave on default). Overall for the price, the VG1A series is a nice monitor. It seems like it would be great for a portable lan party setup or gaming meetup. The built in speakers, multiple HDMI ports, and variable refresh rate make this a great portable or permanent option. The VA panel helps control costs so that Asus can deliver some great features like Freesync 2 Premium, ELMB, and even a passable set of built-in speakers. I think this is a great monitor for the price and the 165Hz really allows FPS games to shine.

A Great Buy for the Price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.TLDR; The VG247QR1A hits all the right spots for the everyday gamer: 1080p, 165Hz 1ms MPRT and AMD FreeSync from an IPS display. With this as the starting foundation, the monitor offers ASUS Extreme Low Motion Blur Sync (ELMB), ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio (ASCR) and Shadow Boost. The VG247QR1A has a single DisplayPort (v1.2) and two HDMI ports (v1.4). The monitor is easily assembled without tools, with only a thumb screw that attaches the base to the neck of the stand. The monitor only allows for top/bottom tilt adjustments, so you won’t be able to adjust horizontal tilt, raise, lower, swivel the monitor or switch to landscape. No worries, it allows for VESA mounting, but you’ll have to buy a mount separately if you don’t already have one. WIth it assembled, it does stay planted, but will shake with the slightest movement of the table. Hardware controls are fixed on the right side behind the monitor for easy reach, and the joystick + 3-button controls are very easy to use. FreeSync Premium comes standard on this monitor and provides at least 120Hz minimum at 1080p, low framerate compensation. It is a step up from standard FreeSync with only FreeSync Premium Plus being at the top tier. Although this model is not identified as a G-SYNC panel, I was able to enable G-SYNC in the Nvidia Control settings with no issues when AMD FreeSync Premium is enabled on the monitor. Asus’ ELMB is a backlight strobing technology that effectively removes tearing by turning off the backlight between refreshes. The trade-off is the panel has to reduce the brightness to achieve its goal. With ELMB enabled, FreeSync Premium must be off as ELMB offers fixed frame rates (and during my testing, I was able to lock 165Hz). It has two settings, Standard and Turbo. To combat the brightness, I had to turn up Shadow Boost, but it only really brightened up darker areas. Speaking of the backlight, I did not notice any backlight bleed, which is really surprising and a huge plus for me, especially for viewing darker scenes in-game or from streaming video content. Obviously choosing between FreeSync and ELMB depends on what you’re playing. Simple RPG-like games or games that thrive on color accuracy and details would do well choosing FreeSync Premium. ELMB with Shadow Boost turned up would give a competitive edge to FPS gamers. It’s not pretty, but it works well in my opinion. There are various preset visual modes (called GameVisual modes) that tailor the settings to a specific genre of gaming. For instance, there is an FPS mode, RTS/RPG mode and even a Racing mode. Each becomes a baseline which can be tweaked further to your liking. For everyday use, sRGB mode is available. There is even an overlay (called GamePlus) that allows you to place a crosshair in the center of the screen, among other things like a timer and FPS counter. I don’t really use these things, but it’s there if you need it. The only con I can think of (and maybe this applies to most gaming monitors) is during productivity use with white text against a dark background, the text will dim significantly while scrolling. I typically set my GMail up in this manner and it becomes almost impossible to read while scrolling. Once the scrolling stops, then the text appears again. Since we are viewing this as a gaming monitor, it may not be a big deal to lots of folks. But if you intended to make it an all purpose monitor, just keep this in mind. Ultimately, I did not take a star off for this. But overall, I enjoy using this monitor for everyday gaming; it’s compact size allows me to place it almost anywhere alongside my ITX case and it’s super portable. I will probably end up buying a different stand to allow for full adjustability of the monitor.

ASUS VG247QR1A changed my graphics standards
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I come from the Atari, Commodore 64 days, all the way through to the present. Pretty confident I've owned every single console you can think of, minus the Dreamcast, because well... no one could find them and they were way over-priced. I’m somewhat very easy to please when it comes to graphics, or so I say. I know what looks good, and what doesn’t, or so I say. I think it's just because I know how bad it can be, like back in the old 8 bit days. Now, I strictly game on a PC. This monitor has opened my eyes regarding what’s necessary to truly enjoy games the way they were meant to be enjoyed. I used to have a 60Hz monitor and I didn’t notice a problem with the graphics, nor was it stopping me from enjoying games. My son got into PC gaming and got a 165 Hz monitor. I watched him playing and did not notice the difference. We took his monitor next to my 60 Hz and my jaw dropped. My son showed me the UFO blur test online. That really showed the difference indisputably. I could see the ghosting on my 60Hz monitor and wondered how I ever tolerated my monitor for so long. Had to remedy my new found problem! This Asus VG247Q1A 165 Hz monitor is more than enough for me. I’ve recently purchased another brand monitor with a 240 Hz refresh rate. This sits next to my Asus, and honestly, I cannot tell the difference with the refresh rate between the two of them. The Asus colors are also more vibrant, even after changing the settings around on both monitors to match! I’m sorry but I can’t speak on the 1ms MPRT differences, but I’ve read that if you want a good gaming monitor that you want one with 1ms for your GtG & MPRT specs, or close to that. The Asus VG247Q1A has 1msMPRT, or Moving Picture Response Time. There are 2 things that really make this stand out to me. The first thing you have to factor in is the EMLB, or Extreme Low Motion Blur that this monitor has. EMLB cuts down the ghosting during gameplay significantly! The second factor for me that makes it awesome is the Shadow Boost. Everybody likes a good creepy scene, or dark area of a map, and the best part is that the shadow boost doesn’t ruin that, it just gives you more visibility, and sometimes help you notice things, or enemies, before you normally would. The speakers are decent, yes, but honestly who cares. I don’t personally buy monitors for speakers, it’s a nice feature, but 9.5 out of ten times, I have my headset on. I was always told by friends and my son to stick with GeForce graphics cards, but I suppose it’s nice that this monitor not only supports GeForce, but also AMD Radeon. That’s a good selling point. Also, I believe it offers full HD output @ on a PS5 and newer Xbox, but who can find a PS5, or Xbox X for sale that doesn’t require taking out a second mortgage. I guess that’s also a nice feature, if those consoles ever become readily available. All in all, this monitor has set the bar for me. I will not buy anything less from here on out. Great PC monitor I highly recommend!

Asus is the way to go!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.always been a fan of Asus Tuf gaming monitor, this monitor is great if you like to game on 1080p, and prefer higher FPS, and for the price it’s pretty solid, i have an office monitor from asus that’s it’s 60fps and paid for $200, what im saying is for what you’re paying for $230 for this monitor you are getting a great performing monitor. 165hz refresh rate, it’s also an IPS monitor so it looks beautiful. I recommend the racing mode setting for colors, that’s always seems the best one for my preference. the quality of the build is also great, it has that matted black look to it, come to Asus to legged stand, i do prefere the square version of a stand they have, but this also gives the user an opportunity to put things under the monitor, the V shape bottom just sometimes might not work on certain gaming setup, everything doesn’t feel cheap. Asus in my perspective has alway have a great monitor and like I said this one ain’t no difference from other high pixel version they have. if you have an xbox series s console, this monitor is such a great fit for the console, because you can also take advantage of the higher refresh rate that it offers, it comes with 2 HDMI a display port, so it’s perfect for console user and PC at the same time. i’ve had Asus monitor for sometime now, might sounds bias with all the praises but honestly reason I buy Asus monitor because they haven’t disappointed me with one so far. so if you want a great monitor that’s not too expensive I do recommend this one if you enjoy gaming on 1080p. this 23.8” monitor is also perfect monitor for kids. I believe it’s a great size to start with.

A great display for 1080p PC gaming
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is an excellent monitor for 1080p/HD gaming and supports high refresh rates. The display quality of this monitor, along with the IPS panel used in it make for a surprisingly great picture. Even just doing stuff in Windows looks clean on this monitor. The monitor has a matte type finish for the display, which help cut distractions from reflections. There are easy to use controls to adjust many settings available on this monitor directly on the right side in the back. I have tested this on a Nvidia GTX 1080FE using a DisplayPort 1.2 cable that was included and can set the display to 165Hz refresh rate. An HDMI connection seems to top out at 144Hz. My other general specs on this computer I have tested the monitor on are as follows: CPU: AMD Ryzen 3700X, 32GB DDR4 2400 RAM, 1TB M.2 boot drive, Asus TUF GAMING X570-PLUS (WI-FI) motherboard. I cannot say I am disappointed with any game I have played using this monitor yet. Absolutely smooth movement, no tearing and extremely fluid picture. I am not a typical online multiplayer type of person, so while I play plenty of FPS games most of them are offline. Then there are games like Fortnite, where I would have no problem hitting 165fps with HD settings. I also played Forza Horizon 5 with the game settings at around high and was able to hit about 120fps stable. If you need a nice-looking display, or need a high refresh rate, or both, you can't go wrong with this monitor. It's well worth it.

Very Good Gaming Monitor Fast with Vivid Color
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The ASUS - TUF 23.8” WLED FreeSync Gaming Monitor with HDR is a very good 1920x1080 monitor that is great for both gaming and general purpose use. It is a bright Freesync Premium compatible with a refresh rate up to 165Mz and a very quick response time of 1ms MPRT. It has features like extreme low motion blur shadow boost, and Plus Game to improve the overall gaming experience. It also has two speakers that I found were only suitable for general listening and not gaming or music. The back of the monitor has 2 hdmi ports, a display port, an audio out connection and monitor controls. One aspect of the monitor that I found very interesting and useful is that the monitor can be controlled from the back of the unit and from the Asus app. The controls on the back include a joystick and several buttons to control basically all aspects of the viewing and gaming experience. In actual use, I found the monitor to be very bright and colors to be vivid. Game response was very quick and smooth with no screen tearing. In general purpose us, I found the screen to be very clear with the ability to view several windows at a time in Windows 11. I would highly recommend this monitor to anyone looking for a high quality 1920x1080 monitor to use in gaming and general use.

Good add on for a better gaming experience
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Asus - TUF 23.8" monitor is the perfect add on for a gaming laptop to enhance gaming experience at a decent budgeted price. I use this monitor with a Dell G15 gaming laptop that has quite enough specs to push this monitor to the limits with the 165Hz 1ms display and response. The visuals are very clear and responsive with little to no lag once so ever. The colors spectrum is very pleasing and even inn dark setting games, the graphics pop with very little ghosting or smearing. I connected the monitor via the hdmi connection and utilize this monitor as a dual screen with my laptop and it proves twice as convenient when gaming or computing on different platforms. It has built in speakers which are just okay and can be used as an alternative to the laptop speakers or headphones if you are not in the mood. The control buttons are placed in back of the monitor on the right lower side out of view. The buttons do feel a tab on the cheap side but get the job done with several adjustment points and features to play with to fine tune your viewing experience. I found that once you start using the adjustments or presets, it is difficult to get that perfect setting if you are OCD so I just left it a default setting which are just fine for this monitor and its purpose. The viewing angles are nice but I do wish there was more of a height adjustment to free up more desk space under the monitor even though it does have a fairly small footprint. Overall, a good budget minded gaming monitor that adds a better quality gaming experience if you are need of a monitor for a gaming laptop or a dual monitor setup.

Powerful Monitor
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As an avid gamer a gaming monitor is a crucial part that many consumers forget about. The Asus Tif Gaming monitor packs a punch for those games that demand frames. This monitor comes in with 165hz allowing for maximum frames during the most intense moments when frames are critical. Unboxing this monitor was simple and straight forward. I had it hooked up in less than 2 minutes once out of the box. Once hooked up I put this monitor through various game trials and tests. The first game was COD and after intense multiplayer action I noticed zero screen tearing and buttery smooth game play. Next up was WOW and played through several levels and dived into the instances. When there was tons of magic and action occurring the monitor showed no signs of blurring. The colors were vibrant and popped when lots of various colors came onscreen. I didn’t notice any dead spots or odd bleed through from light source. Overall this monito is great for consumer in the market for something smaller but pumps out everything a gamer could want in a monitor.

Great Monitor, Perfect Size
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I got this monitor because i needed a compact monitor to fit on my small desk and I am blown away at the image quantity of this monitor. I use my computer for gaming and graphic design and this monitor is great for both. It has such a clear and vibrant picture that it really makes a difference. It has such a nice display that it feels bigger than some twenty-seven inch monitors. In fact, I like the ASUS TUF monitor so much that I will probably end up buying a second one for my setup. For gaming, the 165Hz 1ms refresh time really helps make the games graphics shine. The smooth picture looks so nice and is a totall must have in any gamers setup. I would highly recommend the ASUS TUF monitor to anyone looking to upgrade their setup, even if you are just in the market for a secondary monitor, you won't be disappointed with this one. It will fit into any setup and fulfill almost any need. I only wish I had gotten this one sooner. Again, I highly recommended this monitor to anyone looking for one.
