Customers consistently note the excellent performance and build quality of the ASUS TUF Gaming laptop, along with positive feedback on the keyboard and its suitability for gaming, especially at its price point. However, some users point to shortcomings in battery life and fan noise during operation. A few also mention that the storage capacity could be improved.

This laptop is excellent. I am very happy with this build and the price was right (open box). I like playing games like Skyrim and Final Fantasy and it runs so smoothly at the highest settings.
I look forward to playing more demanding games with it and most likely will have to add more ram and memory but for now it's just what I need.
Oh yeah, and it looks pretty cool and I like how the keys feel while typing.

I've had the laptop for upwards of 3 weeks now. It's been great, it's really fast. I don't see any downsides to it besides the fan noise. Fans get really loud during game, doesn't bother me though since I have good headphones that block out sound. If you don't have headphones then it might be a problem. The rgb is a really nice touch, screen is decent. It looks good to me.

Great Machine For Work & Gaming (and Linux)

TL/DR: For work, play, and grad school, this does what I need it to. It's perfectly usable as-is, and it gets even better with a few inexpensive upgrades if you're a tinkerer.
So my state office was very late to shifting to WFH (Oct 2020). My only PCs at home were Linux, and our government VPN/RDT software only plays well with Windows and MacOS. My newest computer is a mid-2015 MacBook Air running Linux Mint only (no Mac OS installed). I initially bought an HP Envy x360 for work, but it missed so many features I need to have (backlit keyboard was primary, which I didn't think I'd miss but did, and the ability to run two external monitors was another factor). The HP also had no ability to limit the charge level of the batteries to 60 or 80% for users who leave the laptop plugged in 24/7 and that was the deal breaker for me. I returned the HP and got this ASUS. I went in without gaming as my primary focus, though I do use it for gaming as well. So here goes...
After testing this laptop as-is for a week, I added a single 16GB RAM module to bring it up to 24GB total (despite conflicting answers from ASUS support in the Q&A section, mine had a single 8GB module installed from the factory). I also added a large SSD to the 2.5" slot to store my media and Steam library to keep the boot disk clean and light. I use the HDMI-out to run one 24" monitor, and I also use the USB-C out port to run an Anker USB-C hub which feeds a second 24" monitor. Remoting into my work desktop is not terribly demanding (even with two monitors), but the ASUS handles it well. It's a CHONKER, I'm not going to lie. (Again, I'm comparing this to a MacBook Air, so not exactly Apples to Apples....no pun intended.) This is not a laptop you'll want to fling around in a backpack all day. But that isn't really what this laptop is built for to begin with. The PC is perfectly functional as-is, but I would at least recommend the memory upgrade if you're savvy enough to carry it out. Even basic MS Office tasks became much faster with the upgrade to 24GB of RAM. The NVIDIA GPU makes intensive productivity tasks like complex pivot tables a piece of cake. (And yes, it WILL run Cyberpunk at moderately high settings with 24GB of RAM.)
The best part about this computer is that nothing is epoxied or soldered in. You can upgrade/repair/replace the battery, memory, SSDs, and everything is easily accessible. To me, this is more than worth the trade-off in weight and size. I was sick of planned obsolesce and non-upgradable hardware. (That is why my MacBook Air runs Linux now...since Apple decided that perfectly functional hardware would no longer be supported with security updates.)
There is also conflicting information in both the Q&A sections and reviews under the product listing about whether or not there's a second M2 slot. My guess is there is multiple versions floating around under the same SKU, but my particular laptop has a spot where a second M2 drive would go, and the PCB is printed to indicate this, and there's a mounting screw for the far-end of the M2....but there is no actual port to plug the M2 into. So...my particular ASUS has one M2 slot and one 2.5 slot with no provision for the second M2 slot that ASUS claims is in here. That is fine, I cloned the factory M2 onto a large WD SN750 and have both Windows 10 and Linux Mint dual-booting off that. I only use Windows for work and Steam games that won't play on Proton, and I use Linux for everything else. All of the hardware played fine with Linux Mint, Ubuntu, and MX Linux in my testing (you may have to fiddle with drivers...Linux users are likely used to this...but nothing unusual is required and all of it runs well in the end).
For the list price, to get discrete NVIDIA graphics and 10th-gen i5, backlit keyboard (with relatively decent RGB effects if that's your jam), upgradability/reparability, and solid ASUS firmware managers make this a heck of a deal. At the Black Friday (and later clearance) price, it's a no-brainer. In the end, I use this as a dedicated desktop station with 2x external monitors and mechanical keyboard plugged in 24/7 so the backlit keyboard became a non-issue, but it's still nice to have. That MyASUS lets me limit the battery to 60% charge when used in this way is a lifesaver, but even if I do kill the Li-Ion battery pack, I can always replace it.

Bought this because my previous (non-gaming) laptop was crapping out. I have been wanting to purchase a gaming pc and laptop for some time. Decided to get the laptop because it's versatile in where I can take it, which is what I needed, and was on sale right when I needed it really. Plans to build my pc now, instead of purchasing one.
This laptop is a great deal when on sale. Quality parts, and a reputable brand. Works really well on most of the games I play. I would recommend buying this when on sale. Then consider small upgrades (like a second ssd, and maybe a stick of ram). 256gb is not enough space honestly, so I would say that is the main downfall of this laptop, 8gb of ram will get you buy on most games.

Lots of quirks but still a good laptop

I really like this laptop, but there are a few quirks that I'd like to warn people about.
There is no Fn lock on the keyboard.
Using a 2.4GHz mouse receiver causes a terrible noise when you move the mouse. Luckily my mouse also works via Bluetooth & it doesn't make the nails-on-a-chalkboard sound when I use it that way. I highly recommend getting a bluetooth mouse to use with this laptop.
The laptop changes screen brightness whenever I plug it in or unplug it, and I cannot figure out why it's doing this. Some people on forums suggest to turn off a service, but that service doesn't exist and if I turn off a service that sounds similar, then I can't change the brightness manually.
The Advanced Lighting feature for the keyboard is not supported, despite the Asus account telling everyone in the Q&A here that it is supported. You can still change the colors, but it's very basic. The backlight times out super quick when you're on battery and there's no way to make it stay on all the time (maybe there is a registry entry somewhere I can change but I haven't looked yet).
Overall I'd say this laptop is good for the price. It's quiet when I'm playing games, which is nice. I haven't tried any resource heavy games yet, but I'm happy with how it plays less resource heavy ones. The keyboard is comfortable, and I like the trackpad. Usually I don't like trackpads, but this one is fine to use.

This laptop has great value for the money if you get it on a discounted price. The build quality is great and the specs are of good value at this price point. The 1650 Ti can handle any modern game on modest settings. The thermals aren’t the greatest as the fan can get loud at times but so far it hasn’t thermal throttled. The display also isn’t the best and you might need to tweak some things in the display settings. Overall it’s a good entry level gaming laptop for those who want something that can perform on a budget.

I use this for some gaming on Steam. I have had no issues with the graphics on the games I played. Everything is fast. The screen colors are good. The keyboard lights up with your color choice. The battery life is poor but I almost always use it plugged in so it doesn't concern me. Good value for the money.

Good laptop for the price, I got this to go back to school. I needed something capable of doing Zoom calls and handling basic programs, so far it fits the bill. I've even been able to play some computer games on it without any issues. Love that for the size I can still have a number keypad too!

Was okay while it lasted. Started making a weird noise out of nowhere after a year and then I was using it and the screen literally stopped working out of nowhere. Seems to be this manufactures main problem with these laptops . Sudden screen death.

Purchased during blackfriday at $200.00 off - great value. Seemed to load fortnite quickly, but needs more memory for the price. Can handle 120 fps easily. Descent game card. My son loves it. The only complaint is the battery drains quickly.

I have to say for a budget gaming laptop, this performs well. I do highly recommend upgrading the memory to 16gb, installation was very easy. Think next I'll add an additional SSD as 256gb really isn't enough for games these days.

My son loves this laptop, but two years in and the Wifi stopped working. We have to use an ethernet cable unless we want to ship it out for repairs and be without it for a few weeks. Seems like that is what we have to do.
