Compact and budget laptop for daily tasks

From my use of this laptop, I can say that this laptop is meant to be used for basic purposes such as school work, checking emails, surfing the web, or any personal simple use, and NOT for heavy tasks. It is also a good laptop for students and budget-minded users. The specs are kind of disappointing when I first looked at it but my ultimate use of this laptop is for school work and portability. Nevertheless, the specs turned out to be satisfactory and sufficient. The startup and browsing and navigating programs are smooth and lag-free. The keyboard keys are spaced well and it is comfortable to type on and the touchpad is responsive. The laptop is also very thin and incredibly light, making it easy to carry around and the battery seems to last forever even with my office work and having multiple windows open. I use it almost every day for virtual meetings at my workplace and so far I have no issues connecting to Wi-Fi or any other system issues. I wish it has a higher screen resolution as I can see some glare and the colors are not vivid. In addition to a backlit keyboard. Besides the screen brightness is adequate and the speakers are not that great. Preinstalled (8Gb RAM) can be upgraded but for my simple use I don't feel I need to do that but it is a plus. Finally, the Intel Core i3 (11th gen) and 8GB of RAM, 128 GB SSD, and no other I/O ports but does the purpose and I'm pleased with its lightweight/ portable and smooth navigation.

love the product itself, butttt... i bought this laptop as an "open box" product in EXCELLENT condition. according to Best Buy, excellent condition means "like new" condition. upon arrival, i noticed the sticker on the box said this laptop was in "SATISFACTORY" condition, which means...residue and minor scratches. (photo is attached) this was not the item i paid for so i immediately called the CS number and they absolutely agreed with me and advised that i take the product back to the nearest store and have it replaced with the correct laptop....one in excellent condition. the CS rep told me he would email the manager of the store i was going to and explain what was going on. how to resolve the problem and date i would be there. to make a long story short, the manager of the store refused to exchange the product. he said he wanted to but the system wouldnt let him...yeah rite. he said that the prices that i paid were too low and that the system was shutting him out.... like thats my fault! i didnt want a refund, i just wanted to exchange the product for the one i paid for. one in excellent condition. since i bought the product on sale there was no way i could find a replacement with the same specs for the same price. so in the end, i just kept the product. making sure the manager understood my dissatisfaction. if someone from Corporate happens to read this, id appreciate a contact.

I usually do important work on my desktop pc, but sometimes I can't, and sometimes I don't want to, sit at my desk all the time, there are times when working in the living room or elsewhere in the house seems de-stressing, a laptop was the obvious solution. This Asus Vivobook 14" laptop has what I need to run my day to day projects, it has a compact but sufficient size, it can be transported very easily as it doesn't weigh much and has a minimalist but elegant design. In the box comes the laptop and charger, user guide and warranty documentation. The laptop weigh just a little over 3 pounds, has Windows 11 operating system, with an Intel Core i3 processor of 11th generation that works smoothly, for office, school, multimedia playback, programming, etc.. I do not consider this entry level laptop suitable for gaming or video editing as the integrated graphics are not designed for such tasks, plus the 8gb of ram and 128gb of ssd will not be enough for it. The battery lasts several hours but it depends on the chosen configuration. In my case, for the use I give it, I keep it connected to the charger choosing the configuration that gives priority to the performance of the laptop instead of giving priority to energy saving, but it will depend on the needs of each person. It has a 14" HD 1366 x 768 screen which is not a touch screen but it reproduces colors very well and has a good brightness, despite not having lights the keyboard works very well and the keys respond efficiently, I type constantly and it is a comfortable keyboard. The device has preset Windows 11 s that somehow provides more security but limits in matters of third-party applications, you can switch to the regular version of Windows 11 which allows the installation of programs and applications, which in this case is basically the same, third-party, of course this makes the computer a little more vulnerable but with a good antivirus I consider that wouldn't be a problem, but it always depends on the use we give it and what programs we download. In summary, this Asus-Vivobook 14" laptop has a relatively affordable price considering it is an entry level laptop, weighs 3.53 pounds, is compact but with a good performance, a very comfortable keyboard and touchpad, Windows 11 Home installed, 8gb of ram, 128 SSD, an Intel i3 processor 11th generation and a bright 14" HD screen, enough for daily tasks and entertainment, easy to carry and with a very nice design, I can recommend it.

Asus Vivobook 14 inch laptop (X1400EA-I38128) came well packaged. Upon opening the battery was not charged so it would not turn on. This is an entry level laptop with an Intel i3 (11th gen), 8GB memory and a 128GB SSD (about 40GB used and 78GB free). You may want to add a secondary hard drive. I have not done this yet so cannot comment. The screen is 1366x768 pixels. It is NOT touchscreen! It weighs in at 3.53 lbs. which is pretty light. Although this is an entry level laptop, it boots up quickly. All applications I tried worked fine. The video processor is fine for watching videos. The keypad is nice and responsive. I also like the power button on the keypad instead of then side of the laptop. There is no separate numeric keypad. The keyboard is not backlit. The touchpad works well also. I tested the battery life by running a video and the battery lasted over 5 hours. This is pretty good and basic usage would last much longer. I tried a video call and the microphone and camera worked well. Overall I rate this laptop 4 out of 5 stars. I am docking a star for the lack of touchscreen (website says it is touchscreen) and the small hard drive. Most laptops come with a 512GB hard drive. For what you get, I think the price is a little high as well. But I do recommend this laptop for most tasks you would do for home or office. It is nice and light and the battery lasts a long time.

ASUS - Vivobook 14" Laptop is a particularly good budget laptop for general use. The 14” screen is clear and bright and easy to see with little eye fatigue. It comes with a 128 Gig SSD drive and 8 Gigabytes of RAM. The keyboard is a full size and has good reaction to your fingers when typing, but the plastic keys feel a bit cheap to the touch. The outer case over the screen feels solid, but the base around the keyboard and the bottom case feels very toy like and flimsy plastic. The i3 processor is up to most casual users’ tasks and kept up with my internet and MS office use. Miled gaming is ok but heavy gaming would stress the on-board graphics chip. The i3 processor is an 11th generation, not the latest 13th generation version, most likely for cost considerations. This does not impact the performance of this entry level laptop. The windows 11 S is the delivered operating system to help with performance and security from unverified applications. However, to run full versions of some applications you need at least Windows 11 Home version, which you can upgrade to, for free. Once you upgrade to the Home version you can never go back to the Windows 11 S version. Using the Vivobook on the internet, it moves quickly and smoothly with extraordinarily little to no lag time at all. One nice thing to see is there wasn’t very much bloatware loaded on the laptop that could easily take up precious hard drive space. Overall, this is a very capable laptop with some inexpensive components, that could easily be a great laptop with just some better materials in the casing. But for $429 on Best Buy you cannot go wrong for an entry level laptop.

Good Value but limited Storage and Viewing Angle

Pros: - 8 GB of DDR4 3200mhz ram - Comfortable keyboard - Light and compact design including the power supply - 1366 x 768 resolution Cons: - 128 GB SSD storage - Limited display viewing angle - Top is easily scratched - No internal secondary storage capability This is an entry level Windows 11 laptop that can do everyday computing tasks like email, web browsing and most office functions. The SSD storage space and the overall display quality are the main pain points with this laptop. Overall it’s a reasonable solution for someone who wants an entry level laptop that is a good value. If you have specific apps or games you plan on using I recommend you check the required specifications to be sure this laptop can support it and the SSD has enough space. We use this as the family laptop on the kitchen counter and so far its handled everything from word and excel docs to streaming videos to low level video games and other than the limited viewing angle it has not disappointed. Display: The display is 1366 x 768 which is a good resolution for a screen this size. The display is plenty bright however to get reasonable contrast you have to work with the viewing angle of the display screen. With the display open at a normal level the images are washed out and pale in color. With the display angled back the contrast and image quality are quite good but it somewhat defeats the purpose of having a small laptop if you have to open the display screen so wide to get a good image. Storage and Processor: The laptop has a 128 GB NVMe solid state drive which is enough to support Windows and a couple of apps and personal files but not much beyond that. If you use cloud storage for everything this isn’t a problem. If you want more local storage there are two solutions, get an external USB drive and plug it in or upgrade the existing SSD. I opened the case and there is an open slot for a 3.5 inch SSD drive but Asus did not include the cabling or header so it is not usable. (see photo) To increase storage I bought a NVMe drive from Best Buy and used cloning software to copy the existing drive. Now I have plenty of storage on this laptop. Note that the NVMe SSD is a M.2 2280 Gen 3 drive. The laptop has an i3 processor which is very popular for entry level laptops. While the cpu only has 2 cores and 4 threads it does a decent job with every day task and its paired with 8 gb of DDR 3200 mhz ram. There is a second ram slot available but with this processor 8 gb is sufficient. Everything else: The laptop comes with MyAsus already loaded which is a nice program that helps keep everything up to date. Windows 11 Home S is factory installed but you can easily turn off the “S” feature in Windows 11 to get the full functionality of Windows 11 Home. If you do this you definitely want to watch your storage space. The computer has USB-A and USB-C ports but it lacks an ethernet port . It does support Bluetooth and Wireless AC for connecting to the internet. The laptop lid is made of a shiny material that is easily scratched and shows the wear and tear. The laptop is very thin and lightweight and the power supply is small for easy transport.

This Asus is no thrills laptop with Windows 11 Home S installed. Home S means the laptop is limited to only installing items from the Microsoft store and other restrictive measures. This can be useful for people that aren't careful by default on the internet, or just added protection for yourself. You can remove the S setting if wanted. To surf the web, do basic office work, and play some less hardware required games, this laptop and the S mode do fine. You cannot upgrade to Windows 11 Pro if wanted without removing S mode. Besides the Asus programs for monitoring your computer there was no other bloatware on the machine. The Asus programs don’t interfere much with your experience. The device is not a thin laptop, so it has some weight, but not heavy overall. By default, it only comes with a 128GB M.2 and no room to add another M.2. There is space for a standard SSD, but no connections were put in, so you can’t add one. Wireless is AC, not the fastest, but available is more places, and good enough for just web browser and basic needs. 8GB RAM is also enough for web surfing and office work. The i3 does fine for the workloads this is meant for. Hooking up a second monitor, and Bluetooth devices went without a hitch. Whether using ethernet through a dongle or the built in wireless, website came up fast, and office and PDF’s could be used with no issues or lag. The camera and microphone are good for meetings and other online virtual meetings. Sound was clear and the video was good. The screen is sharp and displays well. You get one USB-C, one HDMI, three USB-A, and one 3.5mm audio jack. In the manual is only lists using the included power adapter with barrel plug to charge the device. I could not get any USB-C charger to work from 45w to 90w. The included charger is only 45 watts. You are limited to only this one-barrel charger instead of USB-C charging devices. After seeing what could be done in S mode, I removed it and upgraded to Pro. The laptop worked well and installed all of the programs I wanted not in the Microsoft store. If you have people who somehow keep getting virus or other problems getting on their computers S mode might be a good idea for them. The Microsoft store has enough programs to take of anything you want. Edge is a decent browser and can get you around the internet fine. Overall the laptop does what it is designed to do at a good point price. A full laptop vs a chrome book always gives you more options. You are limited in the hardware but you can always save items online if space is an issue. It’s an all plastic build, but is solid and doesn’t get too hot under loud. Fan noise isn’t too loud. For the price it is a good deal, just make sure you realize the limitations of what you are getting.
