This is not my first Asus Laptop, and not likely my last. For little money and the sleeper performance you might not expect in this price class and lets face it, basic almost boring plastic case. You need to look deeper at this PC. The only tradeoffs is minimal upgradability. There is only one slot (currently holding the OS and remaining 900GB of storage space) for M.2 SSD and only one slot to increase RAM (maxed ram looks to be 40GB [don't quote me] if you take out the 8 and put in single 32gb stick) since one of the 8GB memory modules is soldered (built in) to the motherboard. Just know, they put the latest SSD and RAM. So performance is top notch. Yet, with this low price to get an excellent OLED 120hz screen, i9 Intel processor, Nvidia RTX 3050 graphics card, loud and clear Harman Kardon Atmos speakers and housed in a lightweight frame with minimal flex plus backlit keyboard. Its a fairly robust gaming computer or office productivity PC almost all can afford. Just know that if this had RGB lights, extra expansion bays and a metal housing this would easily sell for $2xxx. Asus and Best Buy have offered you the best bang for buck PC and it even claims antimicrobial touch surface that's good for several years. Still, wash your hands though :D So, if you like the simple or basic exterior appearance. Want to play games or get work done easier and quicker. And battery life of 5-7 hours for this type of higher end machine with much of the eye candy on is for you (there are settings to extend battery if you choose.) Overall this laptop really does seem to have it all without breaking the bank. Plenty of modern thunderbolt ports an SD reader. Asus even thought to put a sliding shutter over the webcam, but you have to leave it open to use Windows Hello. Or just use the fingerprint scanner built in to the power button. Easily an excellent Best Buy!

Verdict: Wow… ASUS makes really nice devices! This laptop presents a really compelling option for a premium-feel capable laptop for graphic tasks, most gaming, high-res content viewing, and other every-day uses. Specs are great, and that OLED screen, oh my! First impressions. It’s a very slim laptop that feels and looks quite nice. Once open, the thin wide screen and wide keyboard (with dedicated number keypad!) are visually appealing. The lighted keys feel and type great. The trackpad is quite large actually, and works well, without getting in the way. The computer comes with a charging cable and manuals. Specs. This is not an inexpensive laptop, but I think that it provides quite a bit of value with some pretty awesome specs. The Intel 13th Gen Core i9 is at the top of the range and will give you plenty of processing power. The OLED screen with 120hz refresh rate offers mesmerizing picture… it’s my first laptop with an OLED screen, and it’s amazing! The NVIDIA RTX3050 is a respectable graphics card with 6GB of dedicated memory, allowing this laptop to support graphics-intensive applications and support most gaming with decent (med to high) settings. The HD webcam includes a privacy shutter (thank you!). The 1TB SSD hard drives enables fast start ups and zippy usage. The computer includes 16GB of DDR5 RAM, which is very good, but only upgradable to 24GB. And, the speakers are actually pretty good, with what appears to be three different channels, for surround sound effect. In all, this laptop packs excellent specs in a sleek and thin laptop. Performance. I am very impressed with this laptop. It is able to simultaneously multitask the software I run all day: Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel, and a dozen web browser tabs, opened all at once. It can also handle video editing I do for social media. It handles some of the games I play pretty well, but these are not too demanding in general. The computer can connect two 4k displays, which is exactly what I need at home to be most productive. Yet, when it’s time to travel, I can easily disconnect the laptop to take it on the road to have a great performing device for work and gameplay. Things I love. - Thin laptop but powerful specs - Thin OLED screen with beautiful user experience - Lighted keys that type very nicely - Dedicated number keypad! That’s rare in the laptop this size. - Large trackpad that does not get in the way - The webcam has a built-in cover for privacy - It has a fingerprint reader in the power button - 1GB solid-state drive provides smooth and fast performance - With 16GB of DDR5 ram and the RTX3050 (6GB dedicated), this laptop can handle graphics, gaming, and significant multitasking - Excellent speakers - Runs very quietly - It has an antibacterial coating! Maybe that’s kind of a gimmick, but I love it! Things I don’t love. - The RAM is only upgradable to 24GB - The laptop finish keeps oil fingerprints and palmprints visible Overall, this is a fantastic laptop that will fill most people’s professional and personal needs. It combines excellent specs in a very nicely designed package. This one is a winner! I highly recommend it.

Major Display Issue Just After Warranty Expired

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

The laptop worked fine for the first year, but exactly 15 days after the warranty expired, the display developed a severe issue. The screen is now covered with black dots almost everywhere, rendering the laptop virtually unusable. I've attached pictures to show the extent of the damage. What's most frustrating is the response from both ASUS and Best Buy. When I reached out to ASUS, they refused to cover this issue under warranty, even though it occurred a few days after the warranty period. Best Buy similarly declined to help, leaving me with an expensive paperweight. This experience raises serious questions about the build quality of ASUS laptops and the company's commitment to customer satisfaction. A high-end "Creator" laptop should last significantly longer than just over a year. The timing of this failure, so close to the warranty expiration, feels particularly egregious. To potential buyers: I strongly advise caution when considering ASUS products, especially their Creator line. The risk of a major hardware failure just outside the warranty period, combined with the lack of support from both the manufacturer and retailer, makes this a purchase I deeply regret. ASUS and Best Buy need to reconsider their policies for issues that occur so close to warranty expiration. A 15-day difference shouldn't be the deciding factor in leaving a customer with a non-functional $1000+ laptop. In conclusion, I cannot recommend this laptop or ASUS products in general based on this experience. The combination of poor build quality and subpar customer service has ensured I won't be an ASUS customer again.

I’m a lawyer who edits videos/audio for work and making videos for my kids. I don’t consider myself a professional in that arena - being a lawyer is my first job - but I’m definitely an enthusiast. This computer handles Adobe virtually flawlessly (at least for what I use it for) and I absolutely love the monitor. Similar to my experience with TVs, once you go to OLED, it’s hard to go back. GENERAL EXPERIENCE AS A LAPTOP I’ll skip the setup process, as it’s standard for a Windows laptop - logging in with your Microsoft account, downloading your apps like Office 365, Adobe, etc. If you have an ASUS account and another ASUS laptop - I do - it was nice to restore the settings from that laptop with this one. But all in all, the setup experience is like any typical laptop for better or for worse. Putting aside the editing/gaming performance for a moment, this is a terrific all around laptop. Even for non-creators, non-gamers, this is a laptop worthy of consideration. Its speed, ports, and screen, are all terrific and make for a compelling laptop. Just day-to-day navigation from turning it on and off, to saving files and surfing the web is incredibly fast and fluid. And then there’s the screen. OLED screens provide for some of the best range of color and contrast and this screen doesn’t disappoint. Then throw in 120 hz refresh rate for incredibly smooth and vivid motion and you have yourself a terrific screen. I’d go so far as to say, if you primarily consumed content on your laptop, this screen alone is worth consideration. DESIGN AND BUILD QUALITY In some respects, this laptop has a boring or at least, basic, design. That’s not a bad thing, it just means that there’s nothing visually about the design that makes it stand out from the competition. But some people may not want, or need, the colorful lights that come with some gaming laptops. But I kind of like the understated design. In terms of build quality, it’s top notch. It feels like a quality, premium, laptop for what that’s worth. It doesn’t feel too heavy, but at the same time, feels substantial. There’s virtually no flex in it and every part of it just fits together well. FEATURES Arguably, it’s never been a better time to buy a computer, especially a laptop. You can get a wide number of laptops with high end GPUs, fast SSDs, and screens with high refresh rates. So why should this one be towards the top of your list in considering a new laptop? Obviously the answer is somewhat objective, but some of the benefits as I see it are (obviously) the screen, but beyond that you get a full keyboard with 9 key number pad (which is important to me), a wide range of ports including 2 USB A ports, 2 USB C ports, which support USB 3.1, an HDMI port, an ethernet port, and a full sized SD card slot. The latter is extremely important for many creators who need to offload their photos and videos directly from their camera to their computer. It comes with an antibacterial coating where you rest your wrists. Frankly, this is something that gets me excited (maybe I’m obtuse, but I was never concerned about bacteria on the surface of my computer). However, it does minimize hand/wrist prints and smudges which I certainly welcome. It comes with a physical webcam cover for ultimate privacy. I’ve known this has existed in other laptops, but I’ve never used it. Here, you’ll see an orange circle where your webcam resides, which lets you know it’s physically covered. The webcam has HDR and is 1080p. I wouldn’t say the video call quality was spectacular, but was certainly better than other laptops. It’s advertised as having AI noise canceling microphones. When I join meetings for work, I’m inevitably in a quiet room to begin with, so I didn’t have much chance to test it out on an actual call. But I recorded a video using the Windows camera app while sitting in a hotel 3 feet from an extremely loud air conditioning unit, and I was impressed; the background noise was virtually eliminated. That could be why no one complained about background noise on my call, they couldn’t hear it. This is only one small example, I didn’t test it outside or in an extremely loud environment, but the microphone’s ability to silence a loud A/C unit tells me the AI driven noise canceling microphones is more than a gimmick. It also supports Thunderbolt 4 for extremely fast transfer. I haven’t been able to test the exact claims, but I’ve moved multiple dozens of GBs worth of files onto USB 3.1 drives and have been impressed with the speed. When moving a lot of data it really is a gamechanger. I use Excel for work and having a number keypad makes a big difference when entering in data. I think numberpads are a must in 15 inch laptops, otherwise there’s wasted space. The speakers are harman/kardon. I know this because the label is imprinted on the surface of the laptop. Speaking in general terms, I found the speakers to be extremely loud. They sit underneath the laptop and when on a hard surface they really sound loud. The bass is lacking, like EVERY laptop, but overall I thought the sound was better than most. The screen. I admittedly was ignorant when it came to the range of colors (as I said, I’m only a creator in the amateur sense). But this laptop has 100% DCI-P3 which covers the RGB color spectrum. In short, it shows more color than your typical screen and really allows HDR content to pop with high contrasts. You just cannot deny the quality of the screen. The only drawback with it is that it is almost like a mirror. When the monitor is off, it’s a straight up mirror; and even when the image on the screen is mostly black, you will see a reflection of yourself in the screen. It is like a mirror, but definitely worth the tradeoff. PERFORMANCE As you might imagine with this laptop having an NVIDIA 3050 and i9 processor, it’s extremely fast and responsive. The NVIDIA drivers are “Studio” drivers (vs. game drivers) which emphasizes stability over having the latest and greatest in gaming performance. Honestly, I don’t know if most of us would be able to tell the difference, but I have used this as a gaming laptop playing games through Xbox Gamepass Ultimate and it’s been great. I played Atomic Heart on Max settings and it ran almost flawlessly. And it looked great on the OLED screen. I’ve been using Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop and Premiere as well. I’ve been extremely impressed with this laptop’s ability to handle these resource intensive programs. I’ve had them open concurrently and had no issues going from one to the other. Rendering videos in Premiere is really quick, maybe not as fast as what you’d get on a Macbook with their inhouse chips, but we’re talking plenty fast, especially for amateurs like myself who isn’t working with large datasets. All in all, I’ve been using this laptop for a myriad of purposes, emails, watching movies/sports, video editing, zoom conferences, gaming, and it handles everything with ease. It’s tough to really quantify the performance other than to say I’ve had absolutely no issues. I hope that trend continues. CONCLUSION If this laptop fits in your budget, or is close to it, it’s worth your consideration. For what you get, a well built, relatively light, powerful laptop with a banging 15 inch OLED screen, it’s a great buy. It really is a do it all laptop, geared towards creators with the HDR OLED screen, but useful to all. Watching content and gaming is a joy on this screen. The colors just pop. It’s difficult going back to other screens after using this laptop. Plus, you get powerful performance that can handle virtually every task you need. Truly, this is a great laptop that is my new daily driver (when I’m not forced to use my work desktop). It goes with me everywhere now.

Not that long ago, opting for a thin laptop meant accepting steep compromises in terms of performance. Recent breakthroughs in power efficiency and thermal management have been working to counter that over the last few generations - and ASUS's latest Q series laptops now prove that you can have it all. The Q540V is a powerful computing platform with almost everything a creative professional might want and still fit within a purse or backpack with ample room to spare. First let's talk about the standout feature of this laptop: the screen. The OLED 16:10 panel on this laptop sits between QHD and UHD resolution, but is much closer to the QHD (2K). And that still verges on overkill for a panel of this size, but in the best possible way. Images are impeccably sharp, and thanks to the OLED tech it delivers deep blacks and vibrant colors with equal aplomb. It's color calibrated and Pantone validated out of the box, a huge plus if you're anyone doing professional design work, and doesn't draw nearly as much power as a comparable LCD might. Comparing it against another high end LCD from ASUS and the screen on a Macbook Pro, both of which were also professionally calibrated, I found that the OLED panel here was the clear winner in both dim and brightly lit environments, with photos in particular having a lifelike quality that LCDs just can't match. Almost as impressive is the hardware driving the display. The 13th generation Core i9 chip excelled at both rendering and number crunching in my tests. And while the RTX3050 providing graphics isn't going to be at the top of any benchmark lists, it's more than enough to keep the full Adobe creative suite running smoothly. Heavy users may find themselves somewhat limited by having only 16gb of RAM available - though this can be upgraded to a degree (more of that later.) It's also capable of handling some moderate gaming - though it will likely struggle with some of the newest titles or anything making use of hardware raytracing. As is to be expected all this does lead to some compromises with portability though. Even optimizing for battery life, the most I'd expect to be able to get out of this would be four hours of use between charges. And while it's certainly not a heavy laptop, it's also quite far from being a featherweight. Moving on to overall build quality, I'd rate it as good but not quite perfect. There's definitely some flex to the casing and the metal surfaces are fingerprint magnets. But the screen appears to be very well protected, and the chassis is certainly stiff enough for me to feel safe carrying it around in a case. The keyboard is pleasantly tactile and includes a small numeric keypad which I'll admit does take some getting used to, but after a couple days of practice I found it to be a very nice addition. The power button has an integrated fingerprint reader, the webcam has an integrated privacy filter, and the harman/kardon speakers are as good as one can expect from something in this form factor. The microphone array, which seems to include one placed on the back of the screen unless I'm mistaken, is also quite capable and comes with AI noise cancellation (though the tech does still struggle with some of the domestic noises that come with remote work.) This brings me to the final area of discussion: upgradeability. I feel a little mixed here because, on the one hand, it's getting increasingly rare to find any slim laptops that will allow you to open up the case and swap out parts without the use of a heat gun. You don't have to deal with that here. The bottom panel is held on by a combination of torx head screws and clips. It isn't the easiest to get off - I still needed to employ some shims to get some of the clips to cleanly release without breaking - but it came off cleanly enough. Once you're inside the only parts that are immediately accessible is an m.2 slot for storage and the wifi adapter. If you want to increase RAM or swap out the included 1tb drive for something bigger or faster, you'll need to remove an additional metal support structure and weirdly arranged shroud to get access. And as is becoming increasingly common there's also only one upgradeable DIMM - with the remaining 8GBs of RAM being soldered to the motherboard, so for now at least you're capped at 24GB of RAM unless someone starts offering higher capacity DDR5 SODIMMs. Given how much memory design apps can consume I really do wish they'd just solder all 16 gigs of the included memory straight to the motherboard and leave the socket empty for future expansion - but for now I'll certainly take this over not being able to upgrade at all. All in all, I have no issues recommending this laptop to any travelling professionals, freelance graphic designers, or someone looking for a stealth gaming PC.
