Great budget computer
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop is a powerful laptop. For the money you get the following: -Powerful CPU, Ryzen 7 5800HS, 8-core, 16 treads. -Radeon Graphics (The CPUiD software only shows it as Radeon Graphics, no model number) The vram shown in CPUiD is 512mb. I believe the GPU uses the system ram as vram. -The total ram is 12GB DDR4. I believe that 8 GB of this ram is soldered on the motherboard and 4 GB of this memory is on a dimm slot. Is my understanding that the ram can be expanded up to 16 GB but for an office laptop 12 GB is more than enough in my opinion. -512 GB SSD NVMe PCI express 3.0. -The display is a 16” LCD, 60Hz, not OLED. Not sure if the LCD is an IPS panel or not. The recommended resolution of the LCD is 1920 x 1200. -It comes with 2-USB-A 3.2 ports, 1-USB-A 2.0, 1 HDMI port 1.4 (support up to one external monitor at 4k 60Hz), 1-USB-C 3.2 (Does not support mini display port over USB-C, in other words does not support a USB-C display adapter to connect an external monitor). One power adapter and one Headphone/mic jack. -One 720P camera with privacy window (The video quality is not great but is ok). -Wifi 6 - 802.11 AX, and Bluetooth. -It comes with a semi-full-size keyboard with number keys. The keyboard is not backlit. The laptop does not have an ethernet port or DVD/CD drive. Regarding weight, is a lightweight laptop, however, is not as light as others I have seen. The laptop is furnished with windows 11 Home edition in S mode. Which means that you can only install applications/programs that are in the Microsoft Store app. To install programs from other sources you need to turn off S mode from windows. Is a process that is easy to do and is totally free. This laptop was intended for home/office use with casual gaming. Programs like Office, web browsing etc. run smoothly and fast. I installed AutoCAD and runs great, no issues not sure how AutoCAD in 3D mode works since I only use it in 2D mode all the time to create construction drawings. For AutoCAD a 16” screen in my opinion is not big enough for my eyes if you are going to use it for a program like that I suggest connecting the laptop to a bigger monitor. The 4K videos on YouTube are for the most part playable but they don’t run as smoothly as playing it in 1080P mode. The laptop have an sticker by the keyboard that says “Alexa, Built-in” however I couldn’t find any application or a way to use Alexa with the laptop. May be ASUS may clarify on how to use it. I usually do casual gaming, but the games I play are retro games not the latest and greatest. Games like Unreal Tournament Classic, Quake 3 etc. play very smoothly. I installed Fortnite and is playable at medium settings. More than medium quality in Fortnite, it’s not recommended. I would say games released by the year 2014 maybe 2015 shall play flawlessly in this laptop at high settings. Later games you may have to sacrifice quality for performance. Battery life always depends on usage but the battery lasts about 4 hours if you use the computer for light tasks. Things that I wish this laptop should have: -Display port over USB-C. -1080P webcam -An ethernet port. But for a budget computer those things may increase the price more. Do I recommend this laptop?? It depends, if you are a student or a person that is going to use it mostly for office programs, internet browsing, Teams Meetings, ZOOM meetings, etc. and you don’t have enough money I would say YES…go ahead and buy it…and if the laptop is on sale, it’s a no brainer. If you want this laptop to play the greatest and latest games at high quality, I will say NO! There are better options for you but would cost a lot more.

Trackpad is non-functional
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The track pad turned itself off 5 days after I got it. After trying to figure out how to fix this by googling painfully using the keypad and my phone, I tried all the the F6 notes and downloading updated drivers etc. I hit F6 sooo many times and all it said was 'trackpad disabled'. I took it to Bestbuy. The guy hit f6 and it came back on. I was astonished and asked how he did it, cause I had done the same thing multiple times, to no avail. But, I swallowed my pride and assumed I didn't know how to push buttons correctly and took it home. Less than 3 days later, the trackpad disabled itself again. I tried F6 again and again and again, and it won't come back on. I tried the Bestbuy online help, which was no help at all. I'm desperately trying to function at a new job, and have to organize ordering a new computer through work before I can return this piece of crap to Bestbuy. I've purchased a cheap external mouse so that I can use it until the new computer arrives. I've had it about 3 weeks total. It has made my life so much more difficult while trying to get up to speed at the new job.
