Customers consistently note the excellent screen quality and strong performance of the Vivobook Pro 15, frequently praising its ample RAM and storage. While many appreciate its ease of use and lightweight design, some users mention that the fan can be noisy and the device may become warm during intensive use. A few also point out the lower refresh rate of the screen and the somewhat cramped number pad.

Couldn’t be happier! Great speed, fantastic performance, and it looks amazing. The Intel Ultra 9 has great performance capability, especially with the Ai features this processor uses. The 24gb of ram handle everything I need to run all at the same time with little to no issues. The graphics that are on board are great too, in addition to the OLED display, this is the perfect duo for great graphics and visual display.

This ASUS laptop is amazing! Super fast, lightweight, and the screen looks great. Battery lasts all day, and it stays nice and quiet even when I’m running a bunch of programs. Perfect for work, streaming, and everyday use. My *only* complaint is the charger died after four months and Best Buy struggled to order me the correct one.

Ultra 7 155h vs Ultra 7 185h models both winners

I already owned the Ultra 7 155h version of this laptop and I posted a 5 star review for it here on Best Buy. It is my absolute favorite daily "jack of all trades" laptop in that it does everything well enough to cover all my needs. Unfortunately my wife borrowed it for a few days and it is now her favorite laptop for Teams, Office, World of Warcraft, email and browsing. I was lucky enough to pick up the upgraded version of the same model and it is again my favorite daily use laptop just with a bit more power, storage and memory so we now both use identical laptops for day to day use.
I personally use it for dev work, World of Warcraft, along with a pretty beefy Steam games collection. It also works great for my raspberry pi and robotics projects.
The RTX 3050 with the 1080p 60hz OLED display is just enough to handle any game as long as you temper your settings expectations. This is not a gaming laptop but instead a laptop that can also game. I've had no problems playing games on it at all with medium type settings or lower. My daily games are Fallout 76 and World of Warcraft and they are just fine. Being an OLED display, it is very pleasing visually. The MyAsus control app has mechanisms in place to combat OLED burn in along with common sense usage.
Just like with the Ultra 7 155h model, I must commend Asus on their fan noise and control options. Having compared both of these models against several other laptops I own, these have some of the best noise levels I've ever experienced while gaming and under load. Everyone has their deal breaker criteria for laptops, and for myself it is outlandish and/or frequent fan noise even when doing minimal tasks. Asus handles this excellently.
The keyboard is spaced well and backlit with a mini numeric pad included. I do happen to use a numeric pad for some work so the numeric pad is a welcome edition. It isn't the best keyboard I've used on a laptop, but it is far from the worse. Once I adapted to it, I was good to go.
I really like the aesthetics of these laptops. No nonsense or out of place over the top RGB. They are sleek and nice.
The MyAsus app (Asus version of Armory Crate for professional laptops) is extensive and handles everything you need including updates and custom settings. I also like their update function that keeps all drivers current along with the newest BIOS which when updating will install upon reboot and is automated. You can actually set the Vivobooks to extract more performance with Performance and Full modes in the MyAsus app. These do require AC power though to use. I found both add a touch more performance GPU wise but CPU performance was the same regardless of the mode set. I generally found it wasn't worth it for the added heat and fan noise. Standard mode worked the best in all situations.
So how does the Ultra 9 185h version compare to my previous Ultra 7 155h version?
The Ultra 9 185h version of the Asus Vivobook is visually identical to the Ultra 7 155h model except for a sticker on the palm rest that says "Ultra 9" vs "Ultra 7" on the 155h model. The Intel Ultra 9 CPU is identical to the Intel Ultra 7 CPU except it is clocked a bit higher. You also get a 2TB SSD vs a 1TB SSD and 24GB of memory vs 16GB. They both use the same 200w Asus compact adapter.
Comparing them head to head, you end up with a CPU that is slightly faster with the Ultra 7 155h scoring ~17650 for multi and ~1724 for single in Cinebench R23 while the Ultra 9 185h clocks in at ~19072 for multi and ~1872 for single. It isn't an earth shattering difference but it is there if you want the absolute best performance. Either model will handle the bulk of tasks with ease.
Since the GPU's are identical GTX 3060 6Gb configs, you end up with basically the same TimeSpy scores of ~5700-5800 with the GPU scoring right around ~5310. If you enable performance mode, you can push the overall score to ~6100 and the GPU score increasing to ~5630 but the fans do get louder and the performance gains are minimal The Ultra 9 nets a CPU score of ~11700 versus the Ultra 7's 11131 in Timespy CPU.
Both memory and SSD benchmarks are about the same but the 2x SSD storage and 50% more memory is nice to have especially with my games collection. I was also able to offload all my project files and entire Steam collection along with World of Warcraft to the 2TB SSD which I could not do with the 1TB model.
My original complaints which were few still stand here. Having all the I/O and connectors on the right side can be troublesome if you use your mouse on the right side which is the majority of users. While I'm a lefty, I do use my mouse right handed. The keyboard could use just a touch more travel. It isn't a deal breaker, but would be nice.
In the end, this is a great all around task contender of a laptop. If you're looking for the best version of this particular RTX 3050 model CPU wise along with more storage and memory, it is well worth the price bump of ~$200 over the Ultra 7 155h version. My original review of 5 stars is again 5 stars. I just feel like Asus is firing on all cylinders here delivering the perfect balance of compromise to allow you to do anything with this laptop within reason in a compact enough form factor that is aesthetically pleasing, ergonomically compelling and above average quiet fan noise when under load.

Desktop Equivalent Speed & Ports

The Asus Vivobook Pro 15 (Q543M) is an excellent “Jack of All Trades” laptop – in a good way. It’s a “desktop equivalent” laptop perfect for dabblers who want portable speed & power for hobby video or photo editing + general business apps. But it is not purpose built for multi-media editing.
Based on my use after a few days it’s a solid 4-stars. Only it’s 1080p, 60Hz screen holds it down. It’s plenty bright, sharp, and colorful, but HD isn’t enough for serious photo editing, and video editing needs not only higher resolution but a faster refresh rate. Of course, if you want to connect an external monitor, this laptop has the internal chops as a daily driver for high megapixel photo and 4K video editing.
As a “desktop equivalent,” it has the power to do almost anything, in reason, you ask of it. But because it does pack a punch, when on battery performance drops back to that of a typical “general business” laptop. – good performance still, just not its max Superman strength.
So, a happy owner here is one who plans on usually keep it plugged in but wants portability for going room to room or home to office. This isn’t an “outdoor café” laptop. To illustrate, I ran Geekbench 6 several times, on and off battery. The results were similar each time; plugged in, single-core scores in the mid 2000s and on-battery, single core score in the mid 1000s.
Below I’ll go over the details of this model, with commentary, having used this Vivobook Pro 15 now for several days.
In my mind all true “desktop equivalent” laptop share three assets:
1. A top line CPU
2. A faster than average dedicated GPU
3. A full set of i/o ports.
INTERNAL GUTS AND I/O PORTS
This Vivobook has all of these elements plus both its RAM and SSD are easily upgradable making it maximum “future proof.” Out of the box though, it’s well stocked so the need to upgrade is in the distance. It has an ample 24 GB RAM, 8GB onboard plus a removable 16GB DDR5 SODIMM. There’s also a roomy, and respectably quick, M.2 2TB (WD SN740) SSD. Even the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth card looks upgradable, though I can’t confirm, yet. I will certainly try when Wi-Fi 7 becomes more ubiquitous. Until then the installed Wi-Fi 6E is what one would expect here.
This model has a top tier Intel Core Ultra i9 185H processor so even the most CPU intensive apps are a joy to use – laptop plugged in, of course. The discrete Nvidia 3040 GPU is not the latest and greatest, but no slouch either, quite capable with apps like Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom, and even 3D gaming is enjoyable as a casual player.
Asus didn’t pull any punches with the ports here either. This Vivobook has at least one of every kind in use today – not something you find on most laptops anymore. Since using it, not once have I had to hunt for an adapter. Imagine traveling dongle-free.
Left side –
- USB-A (5Gbps)
- SD reader (inserted card is not flush with case).
Right side –
- 1 USB-C (10Gbps)
- 1 USB-C Thunderbolt4/USB4 (40Gpbs)
- (both USB-C ports support power delivery and displayport).
- USB-A (5 Gbps)
- Full size HDMI 2.1
- Gigabit ethernet (jaw style)
- Headphone/mic jack
- Barrel DC-in for the power supply.
One quibble here though, I do wish one of the two Power-Delivery capable USB-C ports was on the left side so charging and power was available on either side. It’s a pet peeve of mine that manufacturers tend to put all the ports on one side. It’s lazy design. I say this because there are a few that even the sides out, so it’s not technically impossible.
CASE BUILD QUALITY AND SCREEN
The Vivobook’s case is “OK” feeling, somewhere between “premium” and “budget-y,” which is exactly what this laptop is – upper mid-level. The lid is aluminum with the rest of the case high-end plastic. It’s quite slim considering its full array of ports. It has a comfortable heft and good in-hand feel, obviously not as nice as an all-metal case, but, realistically, that’s one tier up.
The main fan vents are on the left side. I have not heard the fans kick on much – mostly a barely audible whisper to light white noise. The exception being at the start of applying updates when it went full bore for a couple minutes. At full speed the noise is unbearable, but, in my use so far that’s a rare event. Using only my touch, this laptop seems to maintain reasonable temperatures. Parts of the bottom get a comfortable warm but never hot.
The Harmon/Kardon speakers are located at the bottom along with some additional venting and significantly sized feet. Even though these vents are passive blocking I don’t think blocking them with my lap over a long period is wise. The speaker system is Dolby Atmos certified and has an above average sound and loudness for a laptop when placed on a hard surface.
This laptop opens futz-free (recommend disabling the lock screen after login). With Windows Hello and the 5MP IR camera you can One hand the lid open and get to work without further nag screens. Using a PIN for login is also an option. And if you prefer the camera not be “always ready” there is a built-in slide shield to physically block the lens.
As already mentioned, the 15.6” OLED display itself is the weakest part of the system, in my mind, but by no means a deal-killer for the intended user. It is a bright, gorgeous and color accurate display with 99% P3 color gamut, but it’s only HD, not 2K or better, something necessary when editing video, and really high-resolution photos too, and certainly when playing triple-A games.
With 600 nits, I’ve yet to find a place, inside or outside, where the screen looked dim. That said, it is extremely glossy and is prone to show reflections. It’s somewhat of a distraction but easily managed since the screen’s hinge can swing 180 degrees. Despite this flexibility, the screen is not touch sensitive or stand like a tent.
Also of note, the screen’s aspect ratio is 16:9 like TVs rather than the 16:10 aspect ratio laptop displays typically have. On the plus side, you can watch a 16:9 movie full screen, no letterbox. The minus, of course, is less screen real estate for office apps and web browsing.
The aforementioned 5MP HD front camera offers good video quality and offers the standard Windows 11 background blur, auto-framing, and eye contact options.
KEYBOARD, TRACKPAD, ASUS DIALPAD
Moving downwards, the keyboard with its slim number pad is a mixed blessing, but a gift nonetheless. It’s minor, but what I’m not a fan of here is how this configuration puts me off center with the screen when I’m in proper typing configuration. I did get acclimated to it though. You can turn the number pad off via the “num lock” key to prevent accidental typing.
To my fingers the keys feel “above average” with a moderate travel feel, not to shallow, not too deep. I would prefer a bit more feedback but it’s definitely not mushy. I’ve typed a few documents so far and what is most notable to me is how hollow the keys. This aligns with the whole case being in between premium and budget.
Naturally at this price point it’s backlit with three available brightness levels plus “off.” There is hardly any light leakage rising from the below the keys and what little there is gives the keys visual definition and modern look.
The mechanical trackpad is luxuriously large – 5.75” diagonal by my ruler, comfortable room for triple and quad finger gestures and moving the cursor the distance of the screen. It has a confident, tactile feel and audible click to it.
A “bonus” included with the trackpad is the embedded “Asus Dialpad” outline. It’s a virtual dial that you can configure to do specific tasks in Windows or other apps, quickly. For example, in PowerPoint or Adobe Lightroom, tap the center to select a function like scroll, and then use the dial to quickly roll through your slides or photo thumbnails.
I use a physical dial for video editing, and it’s a huge time saver. I can’t say the same here. Being virtual kills any convenience because you have to “find the dial (it’s hard to see on the trackpad), then do taps – hope those are correct, etc. It’s a very different experience with a tactile physical wheel. So, I would say this is an interesting differentiator but it’s also not a reason to buy this laptop over another.
BATTERY LIFE AND CHARGING
The max computing power of the Vivobook Pro 15 needs a beefy battery, and Asus has supplied one – 70Whrs. In my use so far, battery life is consistent with Asus’s claims. With brightness set at 60-70% I get about 10 hours of light CPU duty work (Office 365, web, etc.) and a few less with heavier loads on the CPU/GPU, such as Photoshop and Lightroom. These are slight extrapolations as I never let my battery go below 30%, so I’m assuming consistency here.
Supplied is a 200w barrel style brick charger plus a removable power cable. Unfortunately, the barrel cable end is non-removable, making packing it a bit awkward. Additionally, it weighs a hair over 1lb, which isn’t travel friendly either.
SUMMARY
I’d end as I started. This laptop is a great candidate for you IF
1. Intended use is not mainly to edit high resolution photos or videos ** using the laptop’s display. ** However, if you’ll be plugging in an external editing quality display instead, it’s a top option and plenty powerful for this task.
2. You intend to use it mostly at a desk, plugged in. This is the only way in my tests that it’s full speed can be harnessed. On battery power it’s no faster than an average business laptop.

I work on computers all day at a desk with two extra-large monitors on a desktop. I might switch to using this powerhouse for work! I use my laptop in the living room for 'catching' up on things and doing personal stuff. I have really enjoyed my ASUS laptops in the past, but this one is truly a delight. The first thing I noticed was how little this laptop weighed and how thin the screen was. The laptop powered up and getting updates installed took only a few minutes. Then I put the laptop through its paces. there are tons of great items!
First, staying connected. Of course it's got wifi and bluetooth, but it also has an actual HDMI socket! Perfect for when I want to connect to a large computer screen or to my big television and I don't have to scramble for the USB to HDMI converter. I have a slot for SC cards, USB-A and USB-C and even hardwired internet. I really like having all of these connection points.
Now let's talk about the heart of the machine. Intel Core 9 with 24 GB of Memory allows you to do some serious gaming, creating and data crunching. With a 2 TB SSD hard drive, no worries about running out of room to save things. I crunch a lot of databases and have not been able to lock this computer up, nor slow it down.
Now, the creature comforts. The screen is absolutely fabulous. The colors are vibrant and not muddy or pixilated in any way. The sound is Dolby.. yeah, really nice. The keyboard is the big winner with a narrow number keypad on the right. I do a lot of bookkeeping and data so having a number pad on a mid-size laptop is marvelous, and once again, includes a function I need without my having to attach external devices! I do wish that the num lock and caps lock keys had little lights to show they were on, but that's a minor item.
Now what's really different to me is the ASUS Dial. I will tell you that it is not intuitive to turn it on or use it. Watched a few videos and read official ASUS guidance. Let me shorten the curve for you. To turn it on, slide your finger from the northeast corner where is says "on/off" down towards the southwest corner. The Light comes on! then you can use the dial to get quickly to whatever you want to put on there, from brightness to volume, zoom level, cycling through browser tabs, etc. For some reason, this was hard for me to master. I really think it would be wise to include a 'quick start' sheet for the ASUS Dial. This is my only less that delighted part of the computer. I am sure I will come to love the ASUS Dial, but was surprised I had to find help outside of ASUS just to turn the dial on.
Overall, this gem should work well for most people.

A Little Bit of everything in a Laptop

I recently got my hands on the ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 OLED, and I have to say, it’s been an impressive Laptop. With an Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU, an NVIDIA RTX3050 GPU with 6GB of VRAM, 24GB of RAM, and a massive 2TB of Storage, this laptop packs quite a punch.
The Intel Core Ultra 9 proved to be a beast. This processor handled everything I threw at it with ease. Whether I was multitasking with multiple applications open, editing videos, or some light gaming, the laptop performed without a hitch. The multithreading capability is particularly impressive, allowing me to run several demanding programs simultaneously without any lag. The high clock speeds kept everything running smoothly, and I never noticed any significant slowdown, even during intensive tasks.
Having a dedicated GPU in the NVIDIA RTX3050 is a nice addition to this laptop, But wish they would have gone with a 40 series one since those are the new models. As someone who enjoys gaming and dabbles in graphic design and video editing, I found the GPU more than adequate. I played several modern games at low to medium settings while using DLSS, and the performance was consistently smooth. The DLSS technology helped maintain good frame rates without sacrificing visual quality. For creative applications, the GPU accelerated rendering tasks significantly, making my workflow more efficient.
The 15.6-inch OLED 60Hz display on the Vivobook Pro 15 is nothing short of spectacular. The 1080p resolution might seem modest in an era of 4K screens, but the quality of this OLED panel more than makes up for it. The colors are incredibly vibrant, and the contrast is phenomenal, offering deep blacks and bright whites. This made watching movies and editing photos a visually immersive experience. However, I did find the 60Hz refresh rate to be a bit of a letdown, especially when gaming. While it’s perfectly fine for most tasks, gamers who are used to higher refresh rates might find this limiting. Fast-paced games didn’t feel as smooth as they would on a 120Hz or 144Hz display, but for general use and content consumption, the screen is fantastic.
The design of the ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 is sleek and modern. It has a solid build quality, and the laptop feels durable and premium, that being said it is a fingerprint magnet. At approximately 14.1 x 9.26 x 0.7 inches and weighing around 4.19 pounds, it’s relatively portable for a 15-inch laptop. I found it easy to carry around, whether I was moving between rooms or commuting.
The keyboard is comfortable for typing, with good key travel, responsiveness, along with a num pad which I love for. The touchpad is large and accurate, making navigation a breeze with good palm detection. This touchpad has a little circle indent that allows you to utilize ASUS’s Dial and control software. This can be turned on by sliding from the top right corner. This is a cool feature that allows for some quick Macros depending on the app you are using, such as changing volume, brightness, or switching between apps. There’s also a decent selection of ports, including USB-A, USB-C, HDMI 2.1, Thunderbolt, RJ-45 jack and an SD card reader, which covered most of my connectivity needs.
With 24GB of RAM, multitasking is a breeze. I never had to worry about running out of memory, even with numerous tabs and applications open. Though they went with a weird configuration with 8GB solder to the MOB and only one Slot of 16GB RAM. The 2TB SSD is not only spacious but also incredibly fast. Boot times are minimal, and applications load almost instantly. There is also an additional M.2 slot for more storage if needed. This combination of ample memory and storage makes the laptop a powerhouse for both productivity and entertainment.
Pros:
Powerful CPU: The Intel Core Ultra 9 handles demanding tasks effortlessly.
Stunning Display: The OLED screen offers amazing color accuracy and contrast.
Ample Memory and Storage: 24GB of RAM and a 2TB SSD provide plenty of space and speed.
Portable Design: Sleek, lightweight, and easy to carry.
Cons:
Screen resolution: Only 1080p and not 1440p or 4K.
Refresh Rate: The 60Hz refresh rate may disappoint gamers seeking smoother gameplay.
Not Plugged in - RTX 3050 will become unavailable and switch over to the discreet Intel ARM
Overall, the ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 OLED has exceeded my expectations in many ways. Its performance, thanks to the Intel Core Ultra 9 and NVIDIA RTX3050, is top-notch for most tasks, and the OLED display is a visual treat. While the 1080p 60Hz refresh rate might not be ideal for hardcore gamers, it’s more than sufficient for general use and media consumption. The laptop’s design, build quality, and portability add to its appeal, making it a versatile and powerful machine. If you’re in the market for a high-performance laptop with an exceptional display, the Vivobook Pro 15 OLED is definitely worth considering.
