fairly powerful ultrabook that should be able to run most programs with ease, thanks to its fast processing speed and long-lasting battery. The screen is just amazing, with radiant colors and sharp visuals, while the backlit keyboard makes sure one can work with ease even in low-light conditions. Moreover, the solid keyboard design eliminates flex, giving it a premium feel.
Drawbacks are few and far in between: the screen's glossy finish is a bit distracting in a well-lit environment; the lid is loose when shut, which is a slight demerit for build quality. The trackpad uses a diving board mechanism, not everyone may like. The laptop itself is a fingerprint magnet, and Bluetooth can get buggy at times.
Pros:
Fast performance
Great battery life
No keyboard flex
Backlit keyboard
OLED screen
Cons:
Fingerprint magnet
Lid feels loose when closed
Trackpad has diving board mechanism
Glossy screen
Buggy Bluetooth connectivity

This laptop is, for all intents and purposes, an excellent device with few drawbacks.
It's an 8-core Intel Core Ultra 5 226V.
That means: 4 efficiency (E) cores and 4 Performance (P) cores.
Ultra means that it has an NPU or Neural Processing Unit for "AI" tasks (Microsoft Copilot and similar.)
This CPU in this chassis remains very very cool both internally (i.e. the degrees C shown in various tools) and externally (i.e. it feels cool even after several hours of use.) The fans remain almost unbelievably quiet even after several hours of use as well.
Performance-wise, this is not a powerhouse. It can easily chew through any reasonable task that the average user can throw at it. Thanks to QuickSync, it can easily handle basic video editing and the CPU will handle reasonable photo editing. (If you're a professional in either one of those... or even a university student, look more upmarket with 32GB+ of RAM and more P cores.)
For normal tasks (browsing, music, media consumption, it's perfectly capable of doing all of that.
The screen is great. It is only "1200P", which means it's a 1080P-class display with slightly more vertical space. 16:10 (this ratio) is ideal for me. Others may prefer 3:2 for even more vertical real estate.
Is 1200P enough for a 14" display at reasonable viewing distances? I think so. It's *slightly* fuzzier than the "2.8K" OLED in my Asus Q409ZA-EVO, but It's not much of a step down. I'll take OLED 1080P-ish over LCD-LED... um, anything.. any day. It is only 60Hz, though. Which is a noticeable drop from the 90Hz on the aforementioned display.
RAM is important with a laptop. The basic install of Windows 11 will use darn close to 6.5GB of RAM just idling. Add in the memory shared with the graphics chip and you have less than enough RAM to run a basic Chrome session on an 8GB machine. Fortunately, this has 16GB which is more than reasonable,
Storage is very personal. I keep my info on a NAS and 512GB is plenty. You can always upgrade to a 4TB+ NVME SSD or you can slide in a MicroSD card up to 2TB.
The outstanding feature for me is the wireless performance. This thing can pull around 1500Mbps from my NAS. That means it's a full 50% faster than gigabit Enternet... over a wireless connection. It does max out for uploads around 7-800MBps, so there is a bit of a ways to go on that.
It's very stable, very reliable, and supports MLO (multi-link operation), meaning that on routers that support it (I use a TP-LInk Archer BE11000 PRO), you can connect a single device to the 6GHz, 5GHz, *and* 2.4GHz bands simultaneously and it will receive content on all of those bands at once... for downloads. Uploads still seem to be limited to the fastest band (6GHz, in this case).
Okay, some negatives: this is the only laptop out of 4 that I routinely interface with that will interpret my 2-finger scrolling as zooming (randomly and frequently). I wound up disabling pinch-to-zoom which................. I mean It's not ideal but I guess I can live with it.
Finally, make sure you go into "dynamic lighting" in Windows settings to set the keyboard backlight to *anything* other than the "Dollar store toy blue LED" setting that it ships with.
Depending on a few things, you should consider tweaking some wireless settings for best performance.
Enable "Throughput Booster" in the Intel BE201 settings to more than double your max upload speed (may cause upload slowness for other devices on the network.) and set MIMO Power Save Mode to "No SMPS" unless you really need to eek out every bit of battery.
I guess, a handful of settings you need to consider means this thing is darn good overall. 4.5/5? 4.75/5? Somewhere in that area.

I use this laptop for school and watching media, and it's good for those two purposes. The battery lasts an entire work day so I don't have to worry about charging it. The screen is nice for watching shows and movies. Even though I don't run any heavy tasks, the 16GB of RAM is nice to have since I do have many Internet tabs open at once. The two downsides of this laptop are that the body collects smudges easily and the backlit keyboard isn't the best. Other than that, no real major complaints about this laptop. I think it's a great choice if you want something solid that can handle media consumption and completing schoolwork.

Great Laptop, But Misleading Warranty Promise

I recently purchased an open-box Asus VivoBook S14 OLED from Best Buy listed as “Excellent – Certified” condition. The laptop itself works perfectly—no cosmetic damage, and the performance is fantastic. It was labeled as a shelf display unit, but honestly, it looks and runs like new.
However, my main issue lies with the warranty promise. Best Buy advertises a 1-year manufacturer warranty for open-box laptops in excellent condition, which heavily influenced my buying decision. But once I registered the laptop with ASUS, it showed out of warranty. After some digging, I learned it only came with a 90-day warranty—and that too only after I called ASUS customer service to get it updated.
Best Buy’s warranty policy for open-box units is either unclear or misleading, and that’s disappointing. I expected better transparency, especially from a major retailer. If you’re considering an open-box device from Best Buy, double-check the warranty coverage before buying. The laptop itself is great, but the warranty experience was frustrating and felt like a broken promise.

Great battery life, good keyboard, bright screen, and fan is quiet and doesn’t turn on doing everyday browsing. The one negative is it’s a fingerprint magnet. I’m not sure how that one got passed the design team.

Well-built, great battery life, nice OLED display, excellent keyboard and good touchpad. However, a few issues led me to return this laptop: 1) the left speaker rattled at anything above about 20% volume; 2) Bluetooth devices would pair with the laptop, but would never reconnect; even after removing them they wouldn't show up again to re-pair; 3) the black finish is a total smudge magnet. I ended up getting the Zenbook with the one-gen older Core Ultra Series 1, for $50 more, it doesn't have any of these issues.

Loving the ASUS Vivobook S 14 so far! The OLED screen is super sharp and colorful—makes everything look amazing. It’s fast, lightweight, and handles multitasking like a champ thanks to the Intel Core Ultra 5 and 16GB of RAM. The 512GB SSD gives me plenty of space, and it boots up in seconds. Also really liking the Copilot+ features—they make getting stuff done a lot easier. Solid laptop all around!

I am a longtime Mac user, but I needed an inexpensive Windows laptop for some software that doesn't run on a Mac (even with Wine). I've been very impressed with this Asus laptop, especially for the price. The battery life is exceptional, the screen is excellent, the keyboard is very good and the overall build quality is solid. Note that there are several versions of the laptop – my review applies to the version with an Intel Lunar Lake processor.
Some of the included Asus software could use some refinement, but those are minor quibbles overall.

Lightweight but powerful laptop. Grant it, I am not a gamer, so I cannot speak to that. However, for doing the day to day emailing, working spreadsheets and word docs, it works great! The sound quality is really nice and the screen is great for watching videos! I'm very pleased so far!

Works great for every day use. The battery life is outstanding more than 5 hours of constant use and still at 52%. Internet surfing with 8+ tabs open on Chrome and typing in Word and it never complained or lagged or even got warm. I ran Geekbench Single Core = 2506 Multi-Core 9738 not great numbers but it gets the job done. I found it runs Blinder without a problem but I only work with models. The screen is bright and has good color accuracy. The chassis is a magnesium alloy which is very nice sturdy by comparison to some of the older Acers I have had. I like the keyboard but I got this for my wife she has smaller hands and it fits for her better than me. The large trackpad is very nice and doesn't seem to cause a problem if you brush it while typing. This thing has plenty of ports for any needed extras. It did have some issues with the hibernate and sleep modes when we first got it but Asus put out 2 BIOS updates in the last few months that seems to have fixed the issues for the most part, however if the battery gets to low while in hibernate or sleep mode the light will show it is still on but it will not wake till plugged in, once its plugged in it comes right up no problem. Just remember to do the updates it can fix problems if it is not a physical hardware problem.

Startup is blazing fast. Screen is glossy OLED with a nice pop of color. The track pad is very responsive and nice but the keyboard keys could use a little more spacing and are very dark which can be hard to see at night. The laptop is super light and portable easy to carry around. Battery excellent.

It is a really nice laptop. The screen is excellent and the battery life is too. I have big hands and the keyboard is the easiest laptop keyboard I have ever typed on. I got it on sale for $450 and it was quite a bargain compared to what is normally available at that price range.

I've always preferred ASUS over HP; was recently reminded of why when I tried HP for my last laptop and recently ditched it for this one. Quality build with metal casing, the buttons feel great and I appreciate the illuminated buttons. It just feels solid, quick (obviously; it's new for now) and I couldn't be happier for a mid-field laptop at a great place (picked it up on sale!). Glad to be back with ASUS!
