From a hardware perspective, this product looked really promising to replace a full-size laptop for note-taking in lectures, while doubling as an entertainment device in my spare time. Windows 8 was necessary for me for networking and compatibility purposes, but I'm still unsure if this tablet is worth keeping. I have used it for much of today and twice already the screen has locked up and become unresponsive to touch. I had to manually restart the device. After updating and booting each time, WiFi was inexplicably not functioning. Only after a second reboot did the tablet return to proper functionality. I love working on it, it pairs well with universal wireless bluetooth keyboards and runs smoothly when it does run. But the freezing issues may be a dealbreaker for me. Perhaps I jumped the gun too early on this new device and stability updates may still need to be released. I was hoping the OEMs had figured out most of their Windows 8 troubles by now.

Initially I thought this would be a great tablet, since I had tried Win RT on the Surface and the app support just wasn't there yet. I liked that you could install desktop apps on this little tablet. I thought I was willing to compromise with the Atom Processor, in order to get full Win 8. I was wrong, it's just not quick enough. Browsing is quick, but things like updating take forever. The camera quality is pretty good, but the shutter speed is a little slow. I also felt that for a 500 dollar tablet, the build quality could have been better. The edges were pretty sharp, and while you won't cut yourself, they're definitely uncomfortable. The display had a dead pixel, which was apparent on anything but a black screen. I wish I had seen it on display before purchasing it. I've used iPads, Android tabs, and now Win 8 and RT. For my money, you can't beat the Androids and everything they offer. But maybe the 2nd generation of Win 8 tablets will offer a little more. I wanted to like it, but I returned it today.

I had great hopes fo this tablet, as I'm generally a fan of Asus products, but I was unimpressed with the VivoTab Smart. Take my review with a grain of salt, because I had a very specific task in mind for this unit, which involved a photo booth app built on the adobe air framework. There may be a problem with the video card drivers, in windows 8 or possibly the (built in) webcam drivers, but just starting the program would lock up the tablet so bad that I had to restart the machine. I couldn't test any further because the usb port is only for charging, meaning I could not hook up an external web cam. I did not keep the unit. Thank you best buy for a no restocking fee return policy.

I owned this tablet for about 24 hours. It shows in the spec.'s that it has a 2.0 micro USB-port. But all the port can be used for is charging. You can not connect another USB device to it? How can they advertise it as having a 2.0 USB when all you can do is just charge from the port. the tablet is nice and light abd has an excellent screen. And of course having the full version of Windows 8 was great oo. (not RT) The main use that I bought the tablet for was connecting to USB device, but of course no luck there.

What little use I got out of it was great. Touch screen stopped working and I lost a bunch of pictures and videos when I had to return it. Ended up going with the surface pro as they had no replacement in stock.
