The Azus Zenbook 14X is a laptop that effortlessly combines style and substance. It's a sleek and stylish 14.5-inch OLED touch laptop that not only impresses with its design but also delivers on the performance front. Powered by the Intel EVO platform and boasting an i7-13700H processor, 16 GB of memory, and a 512 GB SSD, the Zenbook 14X offers an exceptional computing experience. Design and Build Quality (5/5): The Zenbook 14X immediately grabs your attention with its elegant, slim design and compact form factor. The display, with its razor-thin bezels, is stunning, providing vibrant colors and deep blacks. The laptop feels incredibly premium. Its backlit keyboard is comfortable for typing, and the overall design is both aesthetically pleasing and functional. Display (5/5): The 2.8K OLED touchscreen is the star of the show. The colors are vivid and punchy, making it a delight for content consumption and creative work. The touch functionality is responsive and adds another layer of versatility to this laptop. Performance (5/5): With an Intel EVO platform and an i7-13700H processor, the Zenbook 14X is no slouch when it comes to performance. It handles multitasking with ease, and even demanding applications run smoothly. The 16 GB of RAM ensures that you can switch between apps effortlessly, and the 512 GB SSD provides speedy load times and ample storage for your files. Battery Life (4/5): The battery life is good, but not exceptional. You can expect around 8-10 hours of usage on a single charge with moderate use. While this is sufficient for a day's work, it's not the best in its class. However, given the powerful hardware and the vibrant OLED display, it's a reasonable trade-off. Portability (4/5): Weighing in at just under 3 pounds, the Zenbook 14X is a lightweight and portable laptop that you can easily carry around. The slim profile makes it an ideal companion for travelers and professionals on the go. Audio (4/5): The Harman Kardon-tuned audio system delivers clear and crisp sound. While it's good for a laptop of this size, it may not replace a dedicated external speaker for those who prioritize audio quality. In conclusion, the Azus Zenbook 14X is a superb laptop that stands out for its exquisite design, remarkable display, and strong performance. It's a versatile device suitable for both work and play, although it comes with a somewhat higher price tag. If you're in the market for a premium laptop that oozes style and offers a fantastic computing experience, the Azus Zenbook 14X is a strong contender worth considering.

As a preface, my typical computer is selected for gaming performance over anything else, and this Zenbook has been a refreshing breath of fresh air. I typically deal with bulky, hot, heavy computers because that's what needed to cram a high performing graphics card and sufficient fan cooling into laptop form, and that's fine. This Zenbook is an ideal computer as a casual personal computer, or for school or business, and it is absolutely magical to work on and use. Pros: OLED display is gorgeous. 2880x1800 resolution OLED display with a 120hz refresh rate means everything you do is both crisp and smooth. Sound: Harman/kardon speakers bring a truly unique experience to this laptop. I've never had a laptop that puts out enough bass to vibrate before, and combined with the OLED display makes this laptop a uniquely enjoyable device to sit in bed or on the couch with and watch a movie or tv show. Battery: It's been a while since I've used a Windows computer not designed specifically for gaming, but the battery life on this for general use has been remarkable. Windows Hello Camera: I'm used to unlocking many of my devices quickly by fingerprint or by facial recognition, but not all laptops have a built-in camera capable of supporting Windows Hello, so I find it noteworthy when it is supported, as it is by the Zenbook. The camera quality is sufficient for video calling / conferencing, but beyond supporting Windows Hello, isn't anything extremely impressive. Touch Screen: The screen is very responsive to touch, and although I haven't figured out a use case for it, the screen lays completely flat, so there's likely an opportunity to be able to use a stylus for sketching or notes if desired. Since the screen doesn't swivel like some others do though, that doesn't seem like an extremely practical use case, but it's responsive to touch in any case. Cons: Keyboard: The keyboard feels just a tiny bit small during use when transitioning from a full-sized keyboard or even another laptop. It's not significant enough to cause mistakes, and I'm sure I'll eventually grow into it and not even notice the difference, but that subtle difference is there. Ports: The Zenbook has 1 USB-A, 2 USB-C, 1 HDMI-out, and a headphone jack. The ports are generally sufficient, and while USB-C is the new standard, I prefer to have at least 2 USB-A ports in a laptop while the industry is still in the process of converting things to USB-C. (My external keyboard actually requires 2 USB-A ports for mouse passthrough). It's nothing a USB-A to USB-C dongle can't fix, or a USB-C hub, which I have lying around, but only a single USB-A port is still a minor con in my book for now. Overall, I'm very impressed with the performance and quality of this laptop. I'd definitely recommend it to any student, or the average person looking for a lightweight computer.

Working with IT, I've tried out dozens of laptops and this is one of my favorites. It's a great balance of size and performance. PROS: +OLED screen is outstanding, High resolution and 120 hz +High quality aluminum construction +Lightweight and very comfortable to use +Combo of fast i7, M.2 SSD, and 16 GB DDR5 make performance fast and smooth. +Dark gray finish looks great, shows fingerprints less than solid black +Speakers are loud, clear, and have great bass +Keyboard has good key travel and response, comfortable to type on, backlight is bright +Touchpad is very smooth and responsive +Battery life is quite good +Excellent value, outclasses competition in nearly every way. +Fast USB-C charging CONS: -OLED touchscreens have a visible touch matrix, which is especially noticeable on white backgrounds at close viewing. Fortunately at this size and high resolution, the grain effect is not as apparent as other OLEDs. -RAM is not upgradeable Overall, this laptop offers a lot for the money. After using big gaming laptops with dedicated graphics and poor battery life, this is a refreshing experience. This laptop is perfect for web browsing, audio and video streaming, and overall productivity.

Fastest thin and light with OLED display around!

Wow. This is probably the best consumer windows laptop available at this price point. The design sort of reminds me of a surface laptop 5. It is not as nice in terms of build quality as there is a little flex here and there. But overall it is very well made. The screen is just about perfect. The Oled display with 120hz refresh and 550 nits of brightness is extremely eye friendly. Colors look amazing and there is no backlight bleed associated with traditional IPS LCD screens. The bezels are extremely thin and yet they have managed to put in an ir camera. Apple and a lot of OEM's could learn from this design. No notch or thick bezels. This screen is touch enabled and has gorilla glass! The guts of this laptop are where you are getting a ton of value along with the screen. The 13th gen intel i7 13700h is basically a gaming cpu with 14 cores and 20 threads. I am kind of dumbfounded how they managed to put this kind of processor in this laptop. It is just a hair slower than Apple's M2 in single core and is much faster in multi core. It is faster in single core than the M1 Pro and about the same in multi core to give perspective. You get 16gb ddr5 ram and a PCI 4 512gb ssd. So file transfers and general speed are not going to ever be an issue. Of course 24 or 32gb ram would have really paired nicely but at this price I have zero complaints. In other words this is a lightning fast thin and light laptop. The keyboard has a very nice feel and the backlight has three settings. The trackpad is large and I am not sure what it is made of, whether it is glass or plastic but it has a PVD coating so it should last a long time. It has surprisingly good stereo speakers along the right and left front bottom side. I prefer speakers on the laptop deck but these have a decent amount of volume and bass. Spatial audio is pretty impressive as well with Dolby Atmos. I don't yet have an idea of battery life but it has a decent size battery at 70whr but the processor can be a bit power hungry and warm so if you are pushing the laptop on battery don't expect a miracle. During normal use it should last close to the stated 9 hours. There is no flex on the laptop lid and it opens with one hand. Although not a 2 in 1 the screen will lay all the way down and seems firm. The inkwell grey is like a light matt black and seems to resist fingerprints more than traditional black aluminum laptops so far. All in all if you want a well built mil spec laptop that will perform very well for the next few years and want the best screen you can get for the money this Zenbook is pretty much the best you will find. As an added bonus there is NO pre-installed anti-virus software!!! Thank you Asus!! I mean this is as close to a surface software experience as you can get without buying a surface. My initial impressions are exceeded. We will see how things go over time but I highly recommend this laptop-specially while it is on sale. If you are on the fence I recommend you get it before the sale is over but even at full price I think it is a tremendous value. Asus hit it out of the park with this laptop. I really hate when OEM's force you to have extra's that are just not needed and charge you more like a entry level nvidia graphics that isn't much better than the integrated XE. You get everything you could want in a super fast thin and light and noting you don't need. I like the gorilla glass touch screen. I like the OLED 120hz display, I like the extra fast Intel processor, I like the larger batter, PCI 4 ssd, and decent speakers. The only thing I would have liked to see is an sd card reader but again for what you get and the price it is a non issue.

A Beautiful, Svelte, Laptop For A Young Designer

Upon getting the opportunity to review the Zenbook 14, I wasn't quite sure where it would fit into the realm of laptops, given its specs, price, and form factor. After having used it for several days in a variety of tasks, it would seem that ASUS has built a VERY nice laptop aimed right for a young designer or art student. I came away quite impressed with several features of the Zenbook 14 and very few issues. Likes: Beautiful Screen: Easily one of the prettiest screens I've seen on a laptop of any kind. The 2.8K OLED is vibrant and bright where you want it to be and pitch black where you want that too. Form Factor: The 16:10 ratio is nice for film viewing and editing, and the overall package is light and sleek. Very easy to cart around in a bag or even in your hand. Software: I've had several ASUS gaming rigs and their Armoury Crate is by far my favorite control software for gaming. It would seem that ASUS has ported that idea over into an art-centric version called ProArt, and it is quite cool in and of itself. It gives you quick and easy access to change hardware settings, do color calibrations, and to manage files. This is probably one of the Zenbook's best features and it doesn't seem to get a lot of hype like it should. Quiet: I crunch some video and did a bit of graphics editing using the Adobe Suite and the Zenbook stayed as quiet as a mouse and as cool as a cucumber. Ok, it was more like a cucumber that had been left out on the counter, but still. Capable: The Intel i7 in this thing made short work of the tasks that I threw at it. I'm sure I could have bogged it down with a ton of windows open in Chrome and a video render going in the back while trying to run Crysis, but in real-world applications, the Zenbook purred along without a hitch. Battery: I did a full charge prior to starting her up and after quite a few hours of use, the Zenbook is showing 73%. I'd say this thing is easily good for a full days work or school, without having to take around the bulky power brick. Ports: For such a small and sleek laptop, ASUS didn't really skimp on the ports. 1 x USB-A, 2 x USB-C (one to be used for charging of course), HDMI, and a headphone jack. The only thing she is really missing, especially for an 'art' computer is an SD Card reader. I need to dig into the specs and see if the headphone jack can do high impedance headphones. If yes, that would be killer. Speakers: Despite not having discreet speaker grilles on the keyboard deck, the Zenbook 14 puts out a nice soundscape that can get surprisingly loud without distortion. It did get a bit 'sibilant' at the highest volume, but otherwise the just released story preview for 'Starfield' sounded epic! Neutral: Keyboard: Nice and comfortable layout. I put it in the neutral category since I neither love it, nor dislike it. It is a pleasure to type on but the keys are a bit 'thick' to be perfect for me. Still, I haven't had a single 'fat-finger' issue where I couldn't touch type without my usual errors. Touchpad: Again, nice and responsive. Also, I dig the integrated calculator that lights up (I left the sticker on it so you could see what it looks like even without being activated), but I found a few times that I accidentally activated it with a touch in the upper right corner and then I got funky tracking until I realized that I had done so. I'm probably going to see if there is a way to disable the function because although it is cool (and allows for a compact keyboard), I don't see myself using it all that often. Lack of Tablet Feature: I thought of putting this in the 'Don't Like' category but I've found that if you aren't almost always using a laptop in its tablet mode, it often times is more of a detriment than a benefit. While having a touch screen, which in this case I don't agree with since that will just muck up your 'canvas', I think that this is geared more towards keyboard and mouse manipulation of your art not via stylus/pen. Camera: I didn't try out the camera for anything other than just seeing how awful it made me look, but it actually didn't make me look any worse than I already do. That is a feat in and of itself. My home office looked bright and sharp, and I looked just as rumpled as ever. I'm only placing it here in neutral because I didn't really give it a chance to shine/fail with an actual video call. Don't Like: Power Brick: If you are going to make a sleek and beautiful laptop, it should have an equally sleek and while maybe not beautiful, but at least nice looking, power brick. ASUS gives you a two part brick with the main brick and USB-C power cord on one hand and then the AC cord on the other. I would much rather see a brick with integrated plug. That way if you are working a bit of a ways away from the outlet you don't have a nice power block ready for someone to kick. The External Case: I know this is such a minor point but I feel obligated to share it because this is such a pretty laptop; it is a fingerprint magnet. This laptop is designed for designers and something like greasy finger and palm prints is going to be a turn off. While maybe not the cheapest option out there for a young art/design student or professional, you DO get what you pay for with the Zenbook 14. You get and eminently portable, sleek, and beautiful laptop that delivers top notch performance through a gorgeous screen! The Zenbook 14 is a darn fine laptop.

Asus’ newest Zenbook 2.8K series laptop continues to bring great performance and a stunning display in a smaller package. With so many laptops being offered by different manufacturers, it comes down to price, brand, and specs. As for the brand, ASUS has proved once more that it continues to make laptops designed with its target audience in mind. I love the sleek metallic feel the laptop has and the gorgeous, vibrant 120Hz 2.8K (2880 x 1800 resolution) OLED touch screen. Having a VESA Display HDR 500 True Black certification and TUV 70% blue light reduction certification, you can immediately tell when you look at it that this is one heck of a display and the certifications back it up. The fact that Asus certified the display with 2 different certifications shows they definitely wanted to impress. While it is not completely edge to edge, the screen borders are pretty thin. I’ve seen laptops where all of the edges of the screen are thin except for the bottom-most one. This one keeps it on the thin side with the glossy “Asus Zenbook” lettering giving it a nice touch. Something to note about the display is that you are unable to fold the screen to a full 360 degrees, limiting it to only being able to fold flat (180 degrees). There are several features this Zenbook exhibits that separates it from the competition. Its thinness stands out in the i7 H processor series range of laptops. Due to the laptop’s portability at 15 inches and having a thin sleek look, a number pad was not able to be added to the keyboard. Asus has begun replacing this functionality by adding an innovative touch-sensitive number pad to their trackpads. By pressing and holding the top right corner of the trackpad for a second, the trackpad is illuminated with numbers and common arithmetic symbols. If you press and hold the triangle icon on the top left corner of the trackpad, you are able to adjust the brightness of the numbers on the touchpad as well. This feature is especially convenient when looking to use a calculator on the laptop. Another key feature is the two Thunderbolt 4 ports on the laptop. Compatible docks or docking stations can be connected to the laptop and expand the number of monitors and devices you can connect. Thunderbolt 4 ports facilitate the ability to broaden what you can do with a laptop by adding a docking station to which you can connect a larger number of devices. Additionally, either port can be used to quick charge the laptop, while the other can be for plugging in external hard drives, phone chargers, etc, while having the same functionality. Another key feature I would like to point out is the battery life and charging time of the laptop. It charges very quickly compared to my other laptops! In 40 minutes, it can charge about 60% of the battery when using the original charger included with the laptop. In my testing, while web browsing, listening to music, and answering emails, I was able to get a little over 8 hours of battery life. Performance wise, the Intel i7 processor keeps the laptop running smooth and opens up apps and programs fast. A couple of seconds after pressing the power button, the laptop boots up and is ready to use (after logging in to your user account). I’ve seen with previous ASUS laptops I’ve owned that the boot time is extremely quick. This is a key feature for when you’re trying to log onto your computer to make quick changes to a document, reply quickly to an email, or simply maximize the time you have available to work on a project. Even more so, the performance and clarity of the HD webcam (1080p, 2.1 MP) instantly recognizes my face and am able to login even quicker than my other laptops. Programs open almost at lightning speed, having the ability to have multiple programs open and not experience a lag in the system. With the most current windows updates, you’re able to have multiple desktops open in multiple configurations, and this computer does a great job of switching back and forth between windows while not slowing down in its speed. If I had the ability to change something on this laptop it would be to have an additional storage space. I would’ve liked to see the laptop have 1TB of storage. This is an easy fix as well as the M.2 SSD that can be swapped out for a higher capacity one. My biggest takeaways are the 2.8K OLED screen that will leave you amazed with its quality, the speed, and great battery life. Overall, I recommend this laptop for those looking for a more portable, slightly smaller and lighter laptop to carry around. This laptop is for the creative, the executive - whoever is looking for a powerful PC with a light feel and thin look.

The Asus ZenBook Q420 is a good modern thin laptop that can handle everyday tasks and more. The new Intel Evo i7 processor is powerful enough to do what you need to do. With 16 gigabytes of RAM, this laptop has no problem running 3D printing software such as Prusa Slicer and Lychee slicer, laser engraving software like Lightburn, music production software such as Studio One, and Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator. The screen is super bright and amazingly clear thanks to being an OLED screen. At first the computer suffered from a lag, but it was due to Windows 11 animation feature being on. Turn that off and the computer is snappy. It is too bad the laptop did not come with Windows 11 Pro, but instead you get Windows 11 Home. The built in video processing architecture Intel Iris XE appears to be good for everything except gaming. This laptop will not run Fortnite extremely well compared to a NVIDIA or Radeon graphics card, but this ZenBook is not a gaming rig, it’s a productivity laptop and it does its job well. The touchpad becomes a numpad with a touch of a button and is very cleverly designed and is pretty useful. The laptop has an IR camera built in so that you can utilize the Windows Hello face unlock feature which is extremely useful for unlocking your password manger such as Bitwarden or Lastpass. One complaint I had about previous ASUS computers was the usage of silver keypads which make seeing the keyboard next to impossible. Asus did away with that in this generation of ZenBook’s. So far battery life is great. The two things that prevents me from giving this laptop 5 stars is the placement of the USB-C ports. Both ports are on the right-hand side of the laptop meaning the charging cable is also on the right-hand side interfering with your right hand if you are using a mouse. Also having both USB-c charging ports on the right-hand side means you will have a wire sticking out on the right-hand side if your power plug is on the left side of the computer. I would of rather have a USB-C charging port on each side of the laptop allowing the user to pick which side to plug the charger into depending on the environment. Another thing is that with the price of this laptop, including a pen to take advantage of the touch screen would of made this the ultimate winner in mobile computing. This feels like a miss on Asus’s part and trying to find an ASUS Pen 2.0 is very difficult because its always out of stock and is an extra $100 purchase on top of the price of this laptop. All in all the ZenBook checks off a lot of boxes and will be a daily driver for me despite the 2 negative things about this laptop.

I was on the fence on this laptop because frankly, I didn't 100% need it. But I'm always watching for laptop sales and deals and I know how much I would normally pay for a 13th gen i7 in this form factor. I bought this on sale for $799, the price was too good to pass up. If there is a sacrifice made here, I don't see it. The design is gorgeous, sturdy, feels awesome in your hands. The build quality is as good or better than any laptop I've ever owned, the lines and tolerances are very exact. No flex, open with one finger and base doesn't move. The screen is just beautiful, and touch which is a requirement for me. So far battery life is great, maybe just because I'm moving from an old laptop with a tired battery to a new machine, but this lasts a long time. First day I set up everything and watched an episode of Mr. Robot on it, used it the whole next day (web browsing) and plugged it in for first time on day 3. The keys are deeper than on my old machine (Matebook Pro btw), feel is great, backlit which is another must have for me. The only con in my opinion is that it only has 16gb of ram and it can't be expanded, so at some point in future I'll run up against that, but 16gb is fine for the foreseeable future and for $800, I can afford to upgrade in 4-5 yrs if I want. Bottom line is I was floored by the level of quality, I did not expect it to feel so premium. I've only had for a short time but right now I could not be happier with my purchase. ps I didn't mention heat/fan, it is NOT an issue. I have returned laptops for being too hot. I rest this on my lap and it doesn't get more than warm, not uncomfortable, and the fan noise is negligible.

First, only the NvME SSD is upgradable. The 16GB of RAM is not upgradable. I provided some insight on the benefits of upgrading your NvME SSD included with this laptop to a PCIe Gen 4 SSD below. PROS: This laptop features an incredible 120hz, glossy, OLED display at 1800p and it's a touch screen! Also, the webcam is 1080p! The exterior case is matt in finish but it's not cheap plastic; it's a step above what you would expect in a laptop at this price ($799 as of writing this review). The 13700H Intel Core 17 CPU is a premium processor, it's more of a desktop replacement. The NUM pad on the mouse pad is an improvement over the previous generation, the response and input lag has been improved. With battery saver on, the remaining battery life alternates between 5 hours and up to 13 hours. CONS: The intergrated graphics (Intel Iris Xe) is sufficient for oridinary and even business tasks. That's primarily how I use this computer (not a con, it's perfect for my needs). However, If you like to play games, you will have very limited games that can run at 60hz or greater. To clarify, you [can] play games on this laptop, but most AAA games require more graphics horsepower. Plus, If you edit video's in Adobe Premeire, I don't think this is a long-term option, especially with the limitations in RAM. I use Adobe Premeire on an extreme desktop computer and notice a big improvement when using 32GB vs 16GB of RAM. Adobe Premeire devours RAM. Other than these two points, I don't see other cons. And to clarify, if you intend to use this laptop for business, school, and other types of media creation, you will not be dissapointed— plus you can use this laptop for Adobe Premeire, but I'm sure you will desire more RAM to smooth out video editing in real-time. Regarding the SSD, I upgrade the SSD to a Samsung 980 Pro 1TB (NvME) and the performance improvement was 69%! Using Passsmark's Performance Test (Disk benchmark), the included ASUS SSD scored approximately 27,000 points, whereas the Samsung scored 45,500. While it's not mandatory, and if it's in your budget, I highly recommend you upgrade the NvME at Geek Squad. On the other hand, if you're handy, you can find the service manual online. You basically need to remove several screws on the bottom of the laptop, and then slide a thin card to pop-open the back cover. It literally pops up. I love how ASUS designed this laptop to be upgrade friendly. Again, if you're not a handy person, I recommend you have Geek Squad complete the upgrade. In closing, this is a fantastic laptop, with great value! You won't need to upgrade for aty least 3 to 5 years. Especially for $799!? Are you kidding me? And this is coming from a consumer that has been building computers for over 18 years.

best buy claims this has a fingerprint sensor, it does not. if you look at the Q&A section and search for fingerprint, an ASUS representative confirms this, but best buy still claims it has one. I contacted best buy support to let them know and 1 closed the chat on me and the other suggested I return it, so Im putting this review here in hopes others will not waste their time with a machine that doesnt have basic functionality.

I cannot recommend this laptop enough, especially when it goes on sale for less than $700. Even at 'list' price it is worth the money. Most Windows laptops have compromises, the Zenbook basically does not. The laptop itself is extremely solid with zero case flex. The metal case is attractive, classy looking, and seems to be pretty tough. It is a bit of a fingerprint magnet though. ASUS claims MilSPEC 810h and I don't doubt it. It has all the ports although USB-C only on the right side. It is slightly thicker than other ultrabooks but considering the solid form and still reasonable weight, I think ASUS did it perfectly. The rubber bumper on the bottom makes it very nice to carry as the fingers use it as a sort of mini-grab rail. It feels like it was carved out of a single block of iron. The screen is truly excellent and the 2.8K OLED is the perfect balance of clear resolution and battery life. 120hz refresh is buttery smooth and the high contrast of OLED beats LCD all day long. With nearly 100% of the P3 color gamut this is one of the best screens available. It also folds 180degrees flat and supports pen and touch (Microsoft Surface pens work on this screen if you have one lying around). The keyboard is one of the best I've ever used, snappy and perfect actuation with even backlighting and perfect spacing. The trackpad is one of the best for Windows, and the ability to turn it into a numpad is a fantastic idea more laptops should use. ASUS did the right thing making the Function key settings configurable, and the default of them being action vs. function number is the right one for most (and easily changeable for those who want the opposite). Webcam and speakers are better than expected. The speakers are among the best in a laptop this size, very close to a MacBook Pro 14. ASUS also includes a very welcome set of video conferencing features for both microphone and camera that frankly any laptop should have in 2023 but most don't. For work or remote learning, this is phenomenal. The 13th gen i7 is powerful and can easily handle most workloads with ease. The GPU is Intel XE though, so no AAA gaming or accelerated 4k video editing. If that is desired, ASUS makes a version with an NVIDIA graphics card. Under normal loads, the fan is completely silent and doesn't get that loud under high loads. This is an H-Series CPU, which is a stronger chip than most U-Series ultrabooks (with the slight tradeoff that the H-Series chips can use more power than the U-Series). The included charger is on the more powerful side. Battery life might be the one area that isn't best-in-class. Its decent, no doubt helped by the 70wh battery, but driving a 2.8k OLED at 120hz and using an H-Series chip means that all-day battery life is just out of reach. Dropping down to 60hz and a slightly lower screen brightness should help. Overall, this is a fabulous Windows ultrabook that is the perfect size and a delight to use. Its performance is strong for typical tasks and the screen is amazing. Battery life remains the only real area of any potential concern.

This laptop is amongst the most impressive I've ever seen - particularly in terms of what you get for the price, it's an amazing value. I was lucky enough to snag one when it was on sale for $799.99. For a bit of background, I work in IT and use/evaluate systems all the time for both business and personal use. At home I have an Apple MacBook Pro 14" M1, a Surface Pro 8 an XPS 13 and now the amazing ASUS ZenBook 14X OLED. Pros: - The ZenBooks strikes a great balance of size/weight/performance - The OLED touchscreen is fantastic, bright, high DPI/no visible pixels; very thin bezels; touch works great - The backlit keyboard is excellent. Keyboards are highly subjective and I can say with confidence I prefer the ZenBook keyboard over the MacBook Pro keyboard (which is very very good) - The precision touchpad works great too and the embedded number pad is a useful addition - The speakers are surprisingly good too. The MacBook Pro 14" M1 does sound better, but not significantly - I don't think anyone will be disappointed with the ZenBook - The onboard Intel Wi-Fi 6E works great - though 6E does have limited range, but that's no fault of the laptop so much as the technology itself - It's Intel EVO certified Cons: - Intel Xe graphics aren't suitable for gaming (though adding an external Thunderbolt GPU for home use would work fine) - Can get a bit warm under load, just need to ensure the vents aren't blocked - The dark finish does indeed attract fingerprints - true of all dark colors, so no surprises there. Nothing a quick wipe down can't fix - This one is a minor con, but worth mentioning: The full length rubber bumper on the back underside of the laptop can get a bit uncomfortable on bare skin/when you're wearing shorts. It's understandable this was done for adequate ventilation on a desktop/table. Rounded corners/edges would have helped here All in all, this is an amazing laptop. It's a great deal at $999.99 and even more so if you can find it on sale. You won't be disappointed!

Pros: Display: The 2.8K OLED touch display offers sharp visuals with vibrant colors and deep blacks, enhancing both productivity and media consumption. Performance: Equipped with an Intel i7-13700H processor and 16GB RAM, the laptop efficiently handles multitasking and demanding applications. Design and Build Quality: The premium aluminum chassis is sturdy and lightweight, making it ideal for professionals on the move. Keyboard and Touchpad: Features a spacious keyboard and a large, responsive touchpad, contributing to a comfortable user experience. Battery Life: The 70Wh battery provides respectable runtimes, suitable for a full day of work. Cons: Thermal Performance: The CPU can run hot under sustained loads, and the cooling system may become noisy in performance mode. RAM Configuration: The RAM is soldered and not user-upgradable, which could be a limitation for future-proofing. Speakers: While they get reasonably loud, the speakers lack bass and treble, making them better suited for speech-heavy content. OLED Considerations: OLED displays are susceptible to permanent burn-in, especially with static elements like Windows' taskbar; however, it's unlikely to be an issue for those viewing varied content. Overall Impression: The ASUS Zenbook 14X OLED combines a stunning display, robust performance, and premium build quality, making it a compelling choice for professionals seeking a portable and powerful laptop. However, potential buyers should be aware of thermal performance under heavy loads and the non-upgradable RAM.

The ASUS ZenBook Q420VA came in a plain eco-friendly box along with a 90W USB-C power adapter. Upon taking it out of the box, I was immediately impressed with the premium build quality. Despite feeling somewhat light in my hands, the chassis felt very sturdy and solid. Aesthetically, I think it is a very beautiful laptop. My laptop came configured with the following components: Intel Core i7-13700H Integrated Intel Iris Xe Graphics 14.5 inch 2880 x 1800 120Hz touch screen OLED Display 16 GB DDR5 Micron memory 512 GB Micron 2400 MTFDKBA512QFM 176-layer QLC NAND PCIe 4.0 NVMe rated at 4200 MB/s read and 1800 MB/s write. Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 wireless adapter 2 USB-C / Thunderbolt 4 ports on the right 1 USA-A port on the left 1 HDMI port on the right. With a fairly high end Intel Core i7-13700H and 16 GB of memory, it should be able to handle all but the most demanding tasks. The Wi-Fi adapter supports the newest 6 GHz Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 standards. The Micron SSD is somewhat in the lower middle of the pack for a 4th gen PCIe NVMe SSD but I don’t think most people will notice any difference between this and a higher rated part in normal everyday usage. This is more of a portable travel laptop than a desktop replacement although it is definitely powerful enough to be a desktop replacement for work, home, and school usage The integrated graphics are okay for less demanding and older games such as Company of Heroes and DOTA so it should be good for some light gaming after work is done. Company of Heroes got around 110 fps running at high and ultra settings at 1920x1080 resolution and looked and played great. The included Thunderbolt 4 ports offer some interesting expansion possibilities. There are external GPU cases that connect to a Thunderbolt port that might allow this laptop to use a discrete GPU to play more demanding games. With this setup, you would have the best of all possible worlds. A thin, light, and portable laptop for travel and when you come home, it becomes a powerful gaming system when connected to a dock and external GPU. During my time with the ASUS ZenBook Q420VA, here are some of the things that stood out for me. This laptop has the best display of any laptop that I have ever used. It is super gorgeous. The contrast and vibrant colors from the display is absolutely stunning. And the Harman/Kardon sound system produces some of the best sound from a laptop that I have ever heard. While it can’t match a nice external speaker set, the sound is surprisingly more full, spacious, and rich compared to a lot of other laptops that I have used in the past. The display is also PANTONE Validated with 100% DCI-P3 color gamut so it should be great for content creators. Watching videos and media consumption is a very strong point on this laptop. And the text display is super sharp and easy to read which makes reading and writing code very pleasant and productive. Browsing the web and using Visual Studio have been very zippy and responsive for me. This is a great laptop for productivity work. Installing a full workload of Visual Studio Community 2022 took around 20 to 25 minutes for me. The keyboard has a nice feel to it but I noticed that it sometimes doesn’t register a keystroke (usually the space bar) when I try to type fast. This could be just a case of me needing to get used to the keyboard. The touchpad has been accurate and responsive and it has a neat feature of being able to double as a numeric keypad. The camera is also a full 1080p camera and produces a nice image so it should be very good for video conferencing. Thermals are very good. During my use, it has never felt hot and it is usually super quiet. I usually don’t hear anything from it. The only time I heard the fan was when I was playing Company of Heroes and even then it wasn’t very loud. Overall, I can strongly recommend the ASUS ZenBook Q420VA if you are looking for a ultra portable and powerful laptop. With its powerful Intel i7 13700H and 16 GB of memory, it should be able to handle most productivity tasks well. This laptop excels in media consumption. Its integrated graphics are decent enough to play less demanding games well and more demanding games at lower settings. It does have adequate expansion capabilities as your needs grow. You can easily swap out the internal SSD for a larger and faster one. Unfortunately, the memory is soldered so that isn’t upgradable. It should also be theoretically possible to use a discrete external GPU attached to the Thunderbolt 4 port in case you want to play more demanding games in the future but this is something I haven’t had any personal experience with. At its list price, I think the ASUS ZenBook Q420VA is one of the best deals out there.

I’ve been using the ASUS Zenbook 14X for a few weeks now, and I must say—this laptop is a powerhouse wrapped in an incredibly sleek design. The performance is nothing short of stellar. With the Intel Evo i7-13700H and 16GB of RAM, it breezes through demanding tasks like video editing, multitasking, and even coding on heavy IDEs like Visual Studio or IntelliJ. Everything feels snappy and responsive. But the star of the show has to be the screen. The 14.5” 2.8K OLED touch display is an absolute dream. Colors are vibrant, blacks are inky deep, and the sharpness is incredible. Watching movies or even just scrolling through web pages is an experience in itself. It’s a display you can stare at for hours and still be in awe every time. However, as much as I love it, I have to be honest about the battery life. When running coding IDEs, especially for extended sessions, the battery drains pretty quickly. I wouldn’t call it terrible—it lasts long enough for light tasks—but if you’re coding or working on something intense, you’ll want to keep the charger handy. All in all, though, this laptop has made my work feel more enjoyable and effortless. The performance and screen quality easily outweigh the slight inconvenience of battery life. If you need something that can handle your workload and look stunning while doing it, this is a great choice!
