Customers praise the ZenFone Max Plus M1 for its budget-friendly price, impressive camera quality, and long battery life. The phone's dual SIM capability and expandable storage are also well-received. However, some users have concerns about the phone's fragile screen, occasional performance issues, and slippery design.

Low price, ASUS Android is tough to configure

If you're buying this phone at this price, you're looking for compromise. And that's what you get.
The camera is poor, borderline unusable. There are lots of artifact and ghost images. Basically if anything moves when you take the shot, the photo is unusable. Now go outside and try to find a few seconds when *nothing* is moving.
So it's not a camera.
ASUS modify Android to gain battery life and durability, but the options they provide are poorly organized and often conflicting with each other. It can be a total pain to actually use any of the battery-extending options without disabling your phone. For example, multiple conflicting/competing options to spare precious battery lead to effectively disabling your phone ... phone calls don't come through (certainly not what anyone wants), text messages don't come through (not what anyone wants), App updates can't download even on a Wi-Fi network (definitely not what anyone wants).
There are some good ideas from ASUS for extending battery life/durability, but they are so poorly executed, with no clear hierarchy of options and impact, that the only way to actually have a somewhat functional phone with real-time messaging and communications Apps is to disable all battery-saving options.
So .. unfortunately with this phone, you get what you pay for. And you don't get a camera. And you don't get a battery-saving phone. You may get a battery-saving device of unknown usefulness, but it's certainly not a reliable phone/communications device.
You may get lucky and stumble upon a configuration of all of their jumbled and conflicting options that actually saves some battery. It took me about 1 month. Good luck with that. But if you text or WhatsApp or Slack me ... don't expect a speedy reply -- I won't even see your message until the moment has passed.

Yeah, I wanted the Samsung Galaxy 9 but $700+ was not in my budget. I found the Asus ZenFone Max Plus M1 4G onsale and liked the specs just as much. Same version of Android, good camera, good sound from speakers. It does what I need it to do and looks good doing it. Plus plus. And just under $200. another win.

Phone performs pretty well, slight delay on touchscreen, phone tends to get hot. The biggest downside was the screen shattered the first time it was dropped. Be sure to get a good phone case and you should be fine.

I purchased this phone for my daughter. I also have an Asus zenphone 4max which I love. We set up the phone and for the next 7 days it would not do notifications. At times she would get them all at one time then none at all. The camera was blurry and the quality was horrid. I tried resetting the phone a few times and nothing working.
I finally had to exchange the phone for a new one. The new phone had he same issue with notifications. After resetting the phone twice it has worked since then. The camera on this phone has been clear.

Alright, I feel badly because I gave an earlier review with only 3 stars. The phone did not deserve that. I kept getting ads whenever I unlocked the phone. Blamed it on the phone, but the problem was an app that I installed. Got rid of the app, problem went away. Worst part is, I really like the app. Anyway, the phone is easy to use, once I found a few built in apps that are really necessary, but were a bit hidden. Had to get used to doing things a little different from the last phone (like screen capture and editing photos), but that's to be expected when you change brands. This phone has double the internal memory of my old phone (32GB vs 16GB), so that helps. Overall it's a good phone.

We did a lot of research and hands-on testing before we bought this phone. It has significantly better specs (processor, RAM, storage, camera) than other phones in its price range (Sony, Motorola, LG, Nokia, Samsung). Reviews are generally good, and the build quality and appearance of the phone are excellent. Caution: This phone is VERY SLIPPERY! Buy a grippy case for it before you even take it out of the house.

This phone is priced right for the features that it has. Camera was adequate. I like the fact that it has 2 SIM slots which is great for travelling outside the US. In addition it has a separate slot for a micro SD card.

Coming from an iphone takes a little bit of getting used to, but once you do that....I have NO complaints! I will say the screen is a tad sensitive, but that's all.
Definitely purchase the sd card to save your photos to.
And make sure to get a case to protect it. I purchased mine from Amazon. Also may want to get a longer cord to plug up.
Phone is fast, takes great pics, (not distance photos however) , great quality on videos.
Definitely a great purchase

I had a Huawei Honor 5x that I loved but had only 16gb of memory so needed an upgrade. Best Buy stopped carrying Huawei phones so went with the Asus - ZenFone Max Plus M1 and couldn't be happier! The screen is big bright and clear. The battery life is EXCELLENT! I have had it for over a month and I can't think of a single complaint! It has never crashed and gets great reception. What more could I ask for?
