    Great tablet

This is my first tablet. I wanted something affordable, yet of high quality. I read lots of reviews on different models. I weighed the options of cellular plans versus cheaper wifi capability only. This one fit the bill on reviews and the tips on what gigs and ram (still confused on those, but I know they are very important) in this unit made it stand out. I wanted to be sure I could add an SD card for memory, which this does have. I also found out from my son that because we have a certain Verizon plan I can use a "tether" wifi feature that lets me use our cell phone data plan for my wifi on the tablet and I can have internet wherever I go without us adding the tablet to our cell service contract (he explained that most plans don't have this ability, but we do). Awesome! So, even though it isn't a phone, I have internet access, so that's awesome for the price of my little tablet! ASUS seems to be one of the top brands for tablets as well. I have used it to play games and e-mail so far, some internet stuff and a movie and u-tube. All played well and the sound was pretty okay with me being close to the tablet. Haven't tested from a further distance as of yet. Tried the camera in my apartment and that was a disaster, all grainy and just didn't work at all. However, was out in a daylight restaurant with friends and it took great pictures. A little washed out on the edge where the light came in the window, but otherwise crisp and sharp colors. The screen is awesome, colors on the screen are sharp, clear and vibrant. Love that! The games run very smoothly, but I don't play anything fancy. Suits my needs so far and I wanted it in order to learn a new operating system (yeah, android tablet is a new experience for me). My phone is android, but it just isn't the same and I don't do that much with the phone, it's too small. So, for a 64 year old lady wanting a new toy and a new technology to learn, I am very happy. The only thing I would want different is more sideways compatibility of the free standard programs like open office, ect. Android apps seem to be just packed full of ads of all kinds which are very annoying and you have to pay to get ad-free versions. I also am not that sure about how side-ways your documents would work between a windows product and the android platform. Guess that's one of the tech things I will learn with time.

First things first, I don't use phones or tablets for gaming. I haven't tried nor do I care to know if its ability to handle games. Moving on, Nexus 7 was my first tablet and I loved it. I purchased it just before the 2013 model was released and it lasted me a couple of years before becoming outdated for simple tasks like web browsing. It was capable of browsing but lacked the speed it once hand and sometimes it was faster to go to my computer and fire it up if I was in a rush. However, I continued to use it as an e-reader until the time of purchasing this tablet (total of 5 years of loyal service). Asus impressed me with the cheap but quality of the Nexus 7, and there are countless reviews online agreeing with me, and I was encouraged to try another low budget Asus again. So far it had not disappointed me. It looks sexy, speeds through the internet, provides a some useful preinstalled apps for productivity, and the battery lasts a surprisingly long time (sorry that I don't have quantitative information for this statement. I know I can in one sitting do light web browsing, downloading, and heavy reading for at least fours hours and be around 70% battery life with screen brightness is at two-thirds. I couldn't say that about my Nexus 7.) I have only two significant complaints. First, the low memory storage. I purchased a 32 gb memory card with this and that is surving me fine with the exception of my Google Books. Far as I am aware, all apps are saved on the device and those books are considered an app. I prefer to keep my reading material save to my tablet so that I can access them anywhere. Unfortunately, my 6 gb of books take too much of the free 10 gb of the 16 gb storage. However, I am able to make use of the external storage by saving all of lectures and PowerPoint from school. Second, this tablet lacks accessory options. That is not surprising considering the balance of power in the tablet market but I am slightly disappointed in my options for an ultra slim protective case. I don't abuse my electronics and I only desire low profile accessories but all that is available are bulky ones. I use this for school and I am not disappointed! I have yet to use the tablet as a writing pad. Once I purchase a stylist I will reconsider returning to this review and giving an additional comment. I am sure there are more productive tablets out there but for $120 I have absolutely no complaints. I personally see spending $300-500 on a tablet a waste of money.

    Excellent tab

Well first let me say I'm coming from using a nexus 7 (2013) for 3 years until it bit the dust. It was my first tablet and it was amazing, unfortunately the mini USB Jack broke and the battery went flat. So off to look for a new tablet. Frst I tried a samsung galaxy tab 4 but found it to be sluggish compared to my old nexus 7, so back it went and I tried the updated tab A 7. But the Wi-Fi performance was horrible (Netflix stuttered and it wouldn't stream smoothly) and it was uncomfortable to hold and heavy for a small tablet. So enter the ZenPad 8, I didn't really want to spend a fortune since my old nexus was only 120 bucks. It had the best specs on paper for the price- 2 gig of ram, Mali 750, etc. The pad is well built and is pretty easy to manage for an 8 inch tab. It runs very snappy and smooth like my old nexus 7 and the Wi-Fi is loads better than the tab A 7 (Netflix and streaming are smooth as silk). Yes the screen could be higher resolution, but it still looks good and is plenty sharp with good colours and contrast. Asus bloatware isn't too horrible and can be removed, I actually enjoy the DTS headphone effects. In summery if you're looking for a nice performing 'budget' tab, you could do worse. I'm very pleased and the slightly bigger screen is easier on my eyes. Good stuff, in fact this review was written on the ZenPad 8 :)

Beautiful, high-contrast, 800x1280 screen. The dark blacks, vivid and deep colors, and high-contrast make it easy to read. An SDHC card is easily adoptable as internal memory by using ADB and a couple of simple commands -- No rooting necessary -- So having only 16GB of internal storage turns out not to be a big deal. I added a fast 64GB Samsung card and formatted as Internal without problems. Rooting is not necessary to do this. Thank ASUS, for making this feature available! ADB tools are easily found online and installed to your desktop or laptop. The instructions to do this can be Googled pretty easily, but if someone has trouble finding them, respond to this review and I will post a link or post Googling instructions. Current available Android update as of this review is Nougat. I use it a lot for routine tasks that I used to use my phone for. When I am on the road I often use my phone as just a hotspot and access everything through the Zenpad 8. Battery life is good but not great. It usually lasts me a day of intermittent use. Only complaint is that the 2MP cameras suck. My phone, a Moto G5+, takes better pictures. The cameras should be fine though for chatting and occasional documentation. I dropped a star for the cameras, but if I could I would really give this a 4.5 stars instead of 4, and just drop a half-star for the cameras. With better cameras I would give a 5-star rating. Well done, ASUS!

Only Flaw - Can Not Transfer Apps To SD Card

    Posted

Great overall, but can not transfer 'Apps' to SD card. This seems to be a trend with many manufacturers now. Interface is good and all of that standard stuff. No complaint about those. I have used Asus products for years off and on. This the only one I can actually 'complain' about. Planned obsolescence is what Apple does. Guess Android device makers want to test the waters and eventually follow suit. Do yourself a favor complain to Asus. Also in the interim try to find a no-name or lessor brand. Seems I often buy from Best Buy not out of the best deal, but out of desperation. I need this device for academic and possible business uses. I had a similiar issue with the boost Mobile LG Stylo 2. Could not transfer apps to SD card. Sad, it cost more than the older phone I wound up purchasing. LOL, yes Best Buy is not my cheapest option. Just wins the distance and time lottery. See what happens when you leave up critical features. Clients go to competitors. Who are selling a inferior-tech, but functional device. To all android hardware developers, Please do not follow the 'Planned obsolescence' of Apple. Just please stop. Again, unless you are a limited-use android consumer I do not recommend this device. However if you do not install many apps and want to use it for entertainment and occasional reading, then go for it.

Great little tablet for the money. I looked at several other brands in the price range & the Asus beat them all hands down. I'm normally a loyal Samsung owner but to get these specs in a Samsung would cost twice as much. The 2gb of ram was the main selling point for me. I tried a Samsung with 1gb & it was very sluggish. The screen is bright & colors are very good. All of my apps run fine even when running several at a time. The speaker could be a little better but I use headphones so it's not a big deal. Camera is great as long as you have plenty of light. The only complaint I do have is not being able to move apps to my SD card. I suppose that's a problem with the new android version & hopefully Asus will get an update to make it work. It was advertised Adobe Flash compatible but I can't seem to get that to work. Very satisfied after using it for 2 weeks.

Not much to say other than this tablet was worth every penny after returning my Amazon Fire HD 8 and investing only a few more bucks for the Zenpad. HUGE improvement, and this thing has 2GB memory so it hasn't let me down as far as handling basic tasks very fast. I don't do a lot of heavy gaming, but I've watched videos and haven't seen any issues with handling that. If you're a heavy gamer you might want to look at something more geared specifically for that, but for basic stuff this ASUS is a winner, and not expensive. One of the things I like is that ASUS obviously put some thought into this tablet, it is very intuitive as far as knowing what is needed for it to run smoothly. Things I was expecting to find as standard features in the Fire HD and couldn't find or fell sadly short, I found to be all there and well thought out in the ASUS. I don't know what your expectations are, but I expected a lot from a company that builds PCs, and I wasn't disappointed, I don't think you will be either.

The tablet that I wanted = Samsung Galaxy Pro= $875 range. The tablet I could afford?Either a Samsung Galaxy Tab A that was refurbished or the Asus ZenPad that was new. I went with Asus because it had more storage, great reviews, cheaper, new and more ram. The only downside to this tablet is I can't find any SD card slot? I was not aware that this tablet did not offer expandable storage. I will never use 16 gigs. It comes with plenty of Asus web storage as well as free Drive storage so not to concerned. Its got pretty quick response time. Not to much lag. The touch works seamlessly. I really have no complaints. Perfect size, really nice feel and quality build at under $125, you can not beat that! :-) P.S. Read thru reviews and judge for yourself!

I bought this tablet for the purpose of haven't a dedicated tablet for my drone (3dr Solo). I wanted to keep it cheap but I didn't want a total piece of garbage either and this tablet fits the bill nicely. Before you buy this, you have to understand that it is a $130 tablet, not a $400 tablet. If it were a $400 tablet I would be a little disappointed, but for $130, this things more than exceeds my expectations. The screen resolution is decent, a little washed out, but better than I expected. It has SD storage, which was important to me, has blue tooth, GPS, wi-fi, and accelerometer. This tablet has 2 gigs of ram which is .5 to 1 gig more than other tablets in this price range. It really isn't laggy and runs all of my apps. I'm not a gamer so I don't know how well it would handle demanding games (again this is a $130 tablet). Overall I'm impressed and recommend this tablet for the price.

You do the research and compare to others, this is a great value tablet. This does a lot more than most of the competition. Again, ASUS pays attention to what they put into their products. You pay a little more, but they usually blow away their competition in every category, this is no exception. I bought this after a frustrating month on the phone with Amazon for a Fire tablet I originally bought. It was like I died and went to Heaven. Amazon tablet does not even come remotely close to this ASUS tablet. This is a solid value hands down. Recommend.

Bought this for my son whose gone through many tablets always complaining they are laggy. He loves this tablet. Smooth using. Sharp colorful graphics and loads super fast. He can play all his games now that use tons of memory and run the tablet real hard with no sluggish behavior. Having 2gb of ram is the key here. And watching you tube and Netflix has never been better. Best tablet he's ever had at an afordable price. Super fast shipping. I ordered it on a Wednesday and it was here by Friday.

Cannot Run Apps Off Of the SD Card

Great tablet for the price. Love the look and feel of the tablet. The response time of the tablet is great. One disadvantage is that you cannot run apps from the SD card. You have about 12 GB of space when you first open the box. The SD card slot is essentially only for for storing music, books, photos etc. If you plan on playing a lot of games or using a lot of apps on this tablet, keep in mind you only have so much space. This is a major bummer. What is the sense of having that SD card slot, if you cannot expand your total storage capacity.

I returned a Kindle Fire HD 8 for the Asus ZenPad 8, glad I did! This tablet runs smoothly, good construction, closest to pure Android tablet I could find for this price. In case you are wondering, YES it will upgrade to Android 7.0 Nougat. Be careful though, there is a ZenPad 8 with only 1 GB of RAM, this tablet has 2 GB of RAM, the extra GB makes a big difference! Get 2GB of RAM! Very happy with this device :)

This is my first tablet and I have to say I'm very pleased with my purchase. Sleek design, good spec's, snappy response, and beautiful display. I wish the cameras were a bit better, but I'm being nit-picky there. There's quite a bit of bloatware on this tablet and 16gb starts to fill up quickly. So minus one star for the un-removable bloatware.

The price was good. I loaded up all my apps, went out and bought a big expensive 128GB microSD card to take advantage of the expandable storage, only to discover that you can't move any apps to the SD card, because the asus move to sd utility isn't supported in Marshmallow. So the external storage is a complete waste. Also, the screen is randomly turning off when I use it. Thinking very seriously about returning this tablet.

Very happy with the unit. Good value for the money. Only comes with 16GB but easily upgradeable. Contacted ASUS customer service and received excellent support. Surprised with the long battery life. Used unit for a week to make sure it was in working order and then reset it to factory settings and sent it to a college student overseas who has been raving about it. Asus was able to reregister it in her name.

I carefully researched numerous Android tablets including Samsung, Fire, and Nook. While not the cheapest, a few features made the Asus stand out from the crowd. The 2gb operating system memory makes it faster and better able to take future updates. The Gorilla glass screen will keep the tablet easier to see.
