Very good tablet

The first one I purchased had an issue with the SIM card and I almost gave up on it. The replacement tablet worked perfect and I'm glad I gave this ASUS another chance. This is the Android version of an iPad mini. Considering the price, this LTE tablet is a much better value.

The Asus ZenpadZ8s is a very good tablet for the price. 2k screen, Snapdragon 652, 32gb expandable memory and a slot for a Verizon sim card for mobile internet. Not filled with bloatware either.

Tablet is a lightweight unit. Reaction time is above average. Memory is adequate to handle any number of apps without a problem. Being able to purchase without Verison a plus.

Asus should not be in the tablet business.

From the inability to finding hard cases and good accessories, the ASUS has proved to be a BIG letdown.
Quality of high endurance materials is a big Zero from Asus.
Without proper protection the edges can crack, the unit can bend in the middle, and the Sim/SD tray can go bad.
Asus has a bad repair process and sloppy system for customer interaction and support. (Asus computers back in the day were the top of the line)
Yes, I returned the unit three times for these issues. As a Verizon branded device I expected more. Will use the most I can, then send to Ebay for re-sale. (I've had Amazon Kindle 1st,3rd gen; Samsung Tab 4/A/E)

Why the Z8s is the best small Android tablet

I know, I know - ASUS is confusing with their Zenpad line. The release date for each Zenpad model is not obvious.
If you go to the ASUS website, there are 8 Zenpad models to compare, at the end of 2017. I just wanted a small 7" model, like the Nexus 7 that I was replacing. And for me - the iPad Mini is not an option (separate digital ecosystem). So here's what was important to me:
1. Getting the most current version of Android for security reasons. The Z8S has Android 7.0, Nougat. We already know that upgrades will be slow in coming, so Android 7.0 is the most current OS for the 2017 Zenpads.
2. The Zenpads skimp on internal storage to keep the price down, (the Z8s has only 16 GB), but it DOES include a Micro SD card slot for internal storage expansion! More on this below.
3. Fast processor, and good battery life. The Z8s was a "Verizon exclusive", so it had to have power and processing power to perform as a Verizon smartphone, too.
I think this was a 'turn-off' for many people, but here's the point:
It doesn't HAVE to be a 'phablet'.
Just notice that Snapdragon 652 quad-core processor, instead of the 2-yr contract discount! None of the other Zenpads have a 652 processor and 3 GB of memory. And because of that Qualcomm excellence, the Z8S also has great battery life, too - especially when it is not trying to maintain an LTE signal all day.
I wanted a small tablet that I could hold in one hand for:
1. Reading e-books and news
2. Watching videos
3. Listening to music
4. Doing email and web surfing
Yeah, I could do it on my Android phone too, but the 2048x1536 sharp display of the Zenpad Z8s is sooo much easier on the eyeballs. Screen real-estate does matter, and even a BIG phone can't compare.
So I can take this tablet with me anywhere, and not worry about cabling it, like the expensive laptop. And did I mention it still has a headphone jack, too? So I can easily listen without disturbing others.
One other detail, the charging port. The Z8S has the Type-C USB port, the same as the Nexus and Pixel phones. So no more slow Type-B charging.
I also recommend getting the "SanDisk Extreme Plus Micro SD Card" at BestBuy, along with the tablet. There were many dire warnings about using slow SD cards for internal storage when Marshmallow FINALLY supported Internal Storage usage. So make sure to get the current 'Extreme Plus' version. 64GB was on sale for only $40 at Best Buy - a real easy add-on.
So don't get spooked by that 'Verizon Exclusive' label. Verizon did stick a few apps on the tablet, but it's not as bloated as Samsung.
Bottom Line - This is the best of ASUS Android technology at a very affordable price. I recommend it for anyone who wants a small tablet.

Bought for the ability to use independent of wifi. Works quite well and saves the need for a separate hot spot. Will get lots of use on vacations.

Constantly closes, blacks out and freezes. Exchanged it when I first bought it and had the same exact issues. Would never buy an Asus item again. Can't upgrade due to policy and contract so I'm stuck with a product and a service that I can barely use.

Performance, look, feel, and quality all 5 stars. I've had die hard Apple users mistake this for an iPad Mini. I'm a heavy user who uses tones of apps and the performance doesn't make you want to throw it out of a window. To me the battery life is great. I charged it and when to work and never used it. I work 10 hour shifts and it only lost 1 percent on the battery. So the stand by time is great. I've been using it for 1 hour so far this morning reading, watching videos, and playing some games on Google's website and I've only lost 5 percent. Last it has a technology to cancel out motion blur when watching videos. I can't say if it is as good as the new iPad Pro's 120Hz refresh rate, but it looks better than devices without it. So far I have no come for this device. I got mine at Verizon for $250.

No longevity

I purchased the Asus 8.0 last year; 9 months in, the screen started randomly blacking out. Then just past a year of ownership, wouldn't hold a charge for longer than a few hours and battery wouldn't fully charge. Left it off for several days, got it to recharge, holding charge for almost a day and then less than 2 weeks later, suddenly went black again even though battery was not dead. Not a good quality product.

Make sure you get a case and screen protector when you buy it. After 2 days the screen cracked.
