I've only owned the Asus ZenWatch 3 going on 5 months. At about 4 and a half months the face got darker, then portions were ghosting, then completely dark. There's only sound now... and my alarms are now too difficult to turn off without the graphics! Also, the band just disintegrated at the attachment point to the body of the watch. And no, I'm not an extreme sports person. I've only exposed this watch to normal wear, no submersion in water for lengthy times or at depth. Great looking watch, but it might as well be a cookie, because this one just crumbled under little to no pressure!

The best Android Wear watch on the market

I've gone through a bunch of Android Wear watches over the last 3 years in hopes of finding the right one. I would either return a model or end up selling one for various reasons ranging from a lack of software updates, poor performance, or the use of outdated internal hardware.
Enter the Asus ZenWatch 3. It is the best Android Wear watch I have used and I plan on keeping it. This was supposed to be the first watch running Android Wear 2.0 but Google has delayed that until February so Asus continued with the ZenWatch 3 launch and it will be one of the first watches to receive the update. Asus has equipped the watch with a new Qualcomm chip, the Wear 2100, made specifically for smart watches. Performance has increased a bit over the last generation of processors while battery life has increased by quite a bit.
The ZenWatch 3 is buttery smooth. I have owned it for almost two months now and not once have I experienced stuttering or freezing. Battery life is enough to get me through the day. I leave the display on (it goes into a darker power saving mode) and the watch is usually down to about 32%-45% by the time I plug it in (about 17 hours). It would be at about 68% by the same time with the display turning off, I didn't see any reason to enable this feature unless you're trying to go 2 days without recharging this.
Notifications pop up almost at the same time on the watch as they do my phone, the vibration is strong enough that I always feel it, and the built-in speaker and microphone have surprisingly good quality for their size. There have been times when I've taken a call using my watch because my phone was in another room. I could hear everyone clearly and they could hear me without problems.
My main draw to this watch was the design. It actually looks like a watch instead of coming off like one of those square Casio calculator watches from the 80's. The display is round and it doesn't have the fat tire look like the Fossil, Michael Kors, and Moto 360 watches do. That is a huge plus that puts this watch above most others. The rose gold accents are nice and the brown stainless steel is durable. I'm not a big fan of the brown leather straps that it comes with but Asus is working on coming out with new colors.
The ZenWatch 3 recharges with a cable that magnetically attaches, this is not a QI wireless enabled watch. I'm OK with that though. The charger automatically snaps into place and it features Qualcomm's quick charge technology. The watch will reach 60% power (from 0%) in 15 minutes, it normally takes mine about half an hour before it is fully recharged (starting at 35%).
Asus has included a bunch of watch faces and they can be fully customized using their Android-only app. There are a bunch of different options from Google as well. You can also download new watch faces if you don't like any of the included ones.
There are two features missing from the ZenWatch 3 which are found in others: NFC and a heart rate monitor. I don't care about the heart rate monitor, I'm not going to wear my watch while exercising as the leather will get ruined rather quickly. The lack of NFC means that the ZenWatch 3 cannot be sued for Android Pay. It's something I wish they would have included but it's also something that I won't really miss.
The ZenWatch 3 may not be the most feature-packed smart watch on the market but it is the best looking Android Wear watch because it actually looks like a watch. The price for this is less than the extremely expensive watches from Huawei, the added feature of the Huawei Watch (the heart rate monitor) isn't worth the $350 price tag over the ZenWatch 3.
I highly recommend this watch for anyone on the market for an Android Wear smart watch that actually looks like a watch and won't break the bank.

The only thing I disliked was the limited battery life - daily charge, but it was FAST, like an hour or so and fully charged. Other than that, it was a really a good looking watch and the buttons made navigation super easy. Able to make/take calls, neat watch faces, and never had problems until my dog got at it.

First I'll be honest, I get a lot of compliments wearing this watch. But besides the compliments on how it looks, I have to say it has an awesome screen and the watch faces really pop. I miss having the heart sensor, but I'll live. The battery life is also good, but I don't use the always on feature. If your looking for an affordable and good looking smart watch, I'd highly recommend this one.

I wanted to have this watch since Asus made an announcement about 3rd generation coming out. Everything that company described is true. Very elegant, stylish, modern. Works as promised too. I did not encounter any problems so far. Watch is packed in a classy black box. Powered by Androidwear 2.0 .Comes with a quite a few watch faces.

I've had my zenwatch 3 for about 2 months and I am very happy with it. The design looked much better in person than the pictures online. I wasn't sure about the gold ring on the inside at first but it actually looks really good. I'm able to get a solid day's use out of the watch with no problem. I did find the battery life does vary based on which watch face you are using. I enjoy the step tracking and getting notifications on the watch. Occasionally answering a phone call on the watch when my phone is not handy has worked really well.
The main areas that could use improvement would be battery life, it's good but still could be better, (though the quick charger is nice), and the watch band is easy to scratch and damage the leather finish.

If you are looking for an Android Wear (AW) device that is not a fitness tracker and looks different I can't suggest any AW device more than the Asus ZenWatch 3.
It's running AW 1.x right now so if you are familiar to AW then don't expect anything too different than last year's models. However with AW 2.0 around the corner there should be some nice new features. Unfortunately there are a few things missing from the watch.
What's missing?
No NFC, which means no Android Pay from AW 2.0 and no auto-pairing like on the Sony AW watches.
No Heart rate sensors, which isn't a minus in my case because I didn't like how it chewed up the battery when I used it. I'm also fairly inactive so I did not buy the ZenWatch 3 as a fitness tracker. If you are looking for that sort of thing there are much better choices that aren't AW but will do better for you.
No 3rd party watch straps yet. I'm a huge fan of Metal bands/straps but not so much for leather. Due to the gunmetal color and special configuration of the lugs you can't just go get a band an put it on. Which for me is a huge down but I'll take the functionality over form on this one. Which isn't to say it's not a nice looking watch but I'd like to have been able to "make it my own".
No LTE modem (cannot be used as a stand alone device), this is more subjective to the personal usage of the user. I just put it here because there might be someone who asks. Personally I'm good with this, as I always have my phone on me, don't want to pay for extra lines on my plan, and don't want the stellar battery life to take a hit from something I'm going to barely use.
What it does have...
Coming from a Moto360 1st gen, I got used to a single button flat tire with no speaker and horrible battery life. So based on the stellar price of the Asus ZenWatch 3 I decided it was time to upgrade.
There is a speaker on the device which you can use for audible alarms, phone calls (as the ringer and placing/receiving calls). The downside is that it is very limited on the notifications you can choose. Your options to get notifications requires you have some knowledge on how Android works... if you like to tinker might be right up your alley. I'm just too lazy.
Great screen. My Moto 360 1st gen had the flat tire which I got used to but I didn't really think it made a difference until I started using the ZenWatch 3. Also the screen seems a bit crisper (due to the slightly higher resolution) and daylight watch reading is pretty good. There is a light sensor like the Moto360 which is really nice (once again no more flat tire).
Extra physical buttons that can be mapped. So AW really only needs one physical button but the addition of the two mappable physical buttons adds a nice bit of flare to the watch. I think the real helpfulness will come with AW 2.0 but for AW 1.x I mapped the buttons to settings and Asus' own watch to phone assistant to turn on such things like wifi or change from audible to vibration to silent modes
Battery life is 2+ days when you use minimal settings. In other words turn off wrist gestures, always on display, wifi, tilt to wake screen. If you are like myself then turning off the settings is normal but if you are the kind of person to turn everything on all the time you're looking at more like 1/2 to 3/4 of a day before needing to charge.
All in all well worth the money for a great and good looking device. My two biggest qualms with the Asus ZenWatch 3 is that the bands are not interchangeable with off the shelf watch bands and the charger. The Charger uses a proprietary pogo pin design like the last two watches from Asus. I got used to being able to wirelessly charge my Moto360 everywhere without having to spend $30+ dollars for another charging unit. Also the battery pack still isn't released yet and it makes me a little anxious.
Android Wear 2.0 will be coming to the Asus ZenWatch 3 soon, how soon I do not know but it will be coming.

At first i was skeptical about this watch. then took the leap of faith and purchased it. battery lasts apprx 2 days. Depending which watch face you have. very stylish design.i really dig the gold trim around the front. you can tell asus went all out. my only downside which is why i didn't give a total five is because it runs.... Android wear. It sort of lags a bit kinda sort of has a delay with the touch. Reminds me of the old android phones.
Still though, i can get passed all that because regardless this watch is superb! High recommend.

I've had the ZenWatch 2 for quite some time, and upgraded it to Android Wear 2. Decided to upgrade to the ZenWatch 3 for claimed better performance, and dressier look. I agree it looks better in a business or formal setting, and the round watch face looks less techy. But I have not noticed a performance boost, and have noticed significantly shorter battery life - 20% or less left at end of day, while the ZW2 routinely had about 50% battery left, with neither using always on mode. Both use magnetic charging cable with small contacts that may not work well if you person heavily. Minor improvement on the design of the cable.
In short, if you want a reliable androidwear smarty watch and can find one, get the ZenWatch 2. However if you can't find a 2, the ZenWatch 3 has great display, is just as reliable, and still lower prices than just about any other androidwear 2 smartwatch.

In replaced my last moto smartwatch with this since the last one broke. This one is a big upgrade based on look and feel. The only thing I didn't like is the docking. Now it's magnetic and harder to keep in place not like the older one where you just put it on its dock.

After 3 months, I must say that I am very pleased with the watch. The battery gets me through the day and it recharges VERY quickly. I have received MANY comments about the watch and they have all be very complimentary. "Wow! A smart watch that actually looks good!" or "That's too nice to be a smart watch."
The notifications are great and it's easy to dismiss notifications that I don't want. I've used the fitness functions and they seem to be compatible with every fitness app that I've tried.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the watch.

It's a Google smart watch so everything is the same as far as that goes. However it is fast and fluid with great optimization . The game changer here is the look and the screen it is just beautiful. I get compliments from everyone! For the price it's a must have Only lacking a heart rate monitor.. who cares buy it you will love it. Oh this thing charges so fast and the new charging cable is finally perfectly designed. Great job asus!

I bought this item do to the fact that i just bought a motorcycle, and since i always felt my phone in my pocket i would have to stop and check my phone, at least with this i just need to check my wrist and see who it is, and if i really want to answer. it comes with no GPS(unless u have the phone) no NFC or none of that stuff, which really i wasnt looking for to begin with. i check my work emails, and displays them completely, fb messages as well as other apps. plus it has a good speaker. i have answer only a few calls since i got this watch.. and its a 60/40 on that since i never been in a quiet place, but i can hear them perfectly. my favorite part so far is when i put music from my phone onto my Bluetooth speaker, i can actually skip songs through the watch.(if i dont have my phone in hand) and well it sorta also frees me away from my phone(if wifi connected, i dont know how long or strong the bluetooth signal is before it beaks connection) since i dont need to have it always on me while in the office or at home. Looks great, Strap feels great, its simple nothing too flashy or too cheap looking for my taste and charges quick. now i am just waiting on it to be updated to androidware 2.0 and see what more i can do with it.

This is my 8th Android Wear smartwatch and I have to say this one is the best. I get 2+ days battery life on a charge (watch has Hyper charge) and charges to 60% in 15 minutes. AMOLED display is great and text is very sharp. I would say it's a great smartwatch for the price but the truth is it's a great smartwatch period.

I was a bit skeptical as I red Asus description of this watch. Now I can say that they did not exaggerate at all. A set up was easy. Connection with WIFI and phone was established fast. It took some time to update to Android wear 2.0 though. Watch had to restart twice to finish all update and synchronize with phone.

loved the watch but had to exchange it for a apple watch. It had a few features that wouldn't work with my IPhone like being able to answer my phone on my watch, which was one thing I wanted. I love the look of the Asus watch and its features. If I had an android phone I would have kept the watch.
