I installed a 3 unit system to cover three floors of an older plaster and lath home and now have excellent coverage on all three floors. One unit is the main router on the main floor, connected via Cat 7 network cable to the lower floor and the 5GHz backhaul channel to the upper floor. Did require some experimentation in moving the upper floor unit around to maximize signal strength. Overall very pleased with the result as signal strength and bandwidth are much improved relative to my older Apple Time Capsule (which, btw, I still use for Time Machine backup hanging off one of the Asus nodes). Have noticed internet outage every few days but this may well be Xfinity/modem issues rather than Asus.

Love this router! It’s fast, reliable, and had a lot of configuration options. QOS, parental controls, smart connect (one SSID for both WiFi bands). While the smart connect is a great feature. I really like that the router lets you separate the 2.4 and 5ghz bands out. The router is fast and I haven’t had an issue with devices dropping off the network. It’s a little pricey but it’s solid.
The app is pretty good but you have more options when you use a computer to connect. Most people will just need to use the app. However, if you like getting into the weeds, this router has plenty of bells and whistles to configure and play around with!

When they're running, these APs are crazy fast. The problem is that they take too much effort to keep running. A few times a year, I need to factory reset one or more units, rejoin it to the mesh, and pray the settings hold when I move it back to its original location. Similarly, the only way to update the firmware on the "remote" APs is to get them "close" to the main router and do the upgrade there. Otherwise, it fails. Asus get bonus points for actually adding new features through firmware updates over 1.5 years after I bought the units, but the hassle leaves a sour taste in my mouth.

We replaced an aging (~6 year old) Linksys standard router with this ASUS Mesh router. I have never used a mesh router before but needed some extra reach and extra band width since we've had more load on our system over the past year. This system has worked flawlessly since we set it up. My wife, who is a teacher and teaches from home at least part of the time, no longer has buffering issues as she streams to her students. We have no more pixelating in video on our Apple TVs & Apps used with it. Setup was easy, and the app is intuitive and easy to use. This is a great system

Nice upgrade to my existing older system. Easy to set up, coverage is great and speed is consistent across my entire area. The admin UI is a bit outdated, but it's easy enough to navigate and use.

I was experiencing poor WiFi speeds in my house to the point that it was almost unusable in the areas furthest from the previous router. I researched the various offerings from many brands, looking at price/reported performance and ended up chosing the ASUS ZenWiFi AX. No one has paid me to write this review and I have never written one before, so this is a first for me.
So why am I writing this review? Because I am totally blown away by the performance, ease of set up and flexibility this unit has. I was going to use the wired backbone option, but the cable that I was going to use was in a bedroom and thought it might get "destroyed" by one of the kids.
I placed the host in a basement room that is in the middle of the house with cinder block an brick walls (no exterior wall is used by this room) . The worse location possible (It's where the internet terminates). I set up the host, went to the second floor sitting room and set up the remote unit. I was concerned not having the wired backbone would not allow the remote unit to link up because of the significant problems experienced with the previous router reaching the second floor.
I powered it up and the remote unit connected with the host to my amazement and is providing stellar performance. In fact, everyone now comments on how fast and stable the WiFi is.
We have 3 TVs, one on each floor that use the WiFi....and since it is so fast and reliable now, we have completely gotten rid of cable TV. Kids do some heavy gaming and mobile phone use. I also depend on the WiFi as I work from home everyday. Now when there is an internet related problem, I know what's it's not.....it's not my WiFi. Highly recommended. The house is about 4300 sq ft.

I replaced an Asus RT3200 and TP-Link AC1750 range extender with these. Better coverage and speed.
Basic setup was easy with Android app but I had to use a web browser to set default LAN IP address to what I needed and specify WiFi channel. It gave me 192.168.50.x and I wanted 192.168.2.x so I would not have to reset some security cameras.
I am using 2nd 5Ghz as backhaul for the second mesh node and SmartConnect disabled.
This was really hard to buy. I was checking Bestbuy every day for a month till it was in stock. Ease of use is good, not excellent because of needing to use browser instead of app for some settings.

Purchased to replace existing ASUS router to cover whole house without signal loss. Their iOS software made it easy to setup. Signal is now strong in patio area on other side of house. Easily handles 400mbps speed from internet provider. iOS software and browser interface have more management features than other major brands (in my opinion) which is great if you need to manage use by device. With WiFi 6 capability should be good for many years to come. Another reason I purchased was I never had any issues with previous ASUS router

I wanted to love this mesh system, I really did. My old router has been a pain for a long time, and when this arrived it was perfect. The speeds and coverage I was getting were stunning, and I was blown away by the feature set and performance. The device does have an unfortunate Achilles' Heel when it comes to reliability. When it works, it works flawlessly, but when it fails it brings the entire network down. In the past month, I've had to reboot my ZenWiFi system 4 times, and I've even had to factory reset it after it seemingly got stuck in an endless reboot loop. For a $450 mesh system, this is unacceptable. And yes, I am using the latest firmware.
I expected so much better since this product has amazing reviews from CNET, DongKnowsTech, PCMag, and more, but excellent performance is plagued by long-term reliability issues.
I will be returning my unit.

Bought this for my kids as we live in a split floor plan 3000 sqft home. The main router is an Asus AX1100 and these XT8s in node setup. With just our AX1100 router signal to our boys room was around 20-50 mbps on our 1GB internet. They would complain about lagging issues and living room is as far from the main router too. TV wifi signal would get 1/2 bar as well. Now with the XT8s using AX wireless backhaul setup its blazing fast. My sons now get 200+ mbps in his room hooked up wired and same for other using wifi next room over no lagging issues. Living room TV full bars as well cell phones. Wish I could've got the black ones but couldn't wait rather have bestbuy geek squad protection plan locally exchange if need be

Love everything thing about it except the price point for its wireless standard. I’d recommend something else 80% of the time if your house setup allows it because of the price vs wireless specs but in those 20% of situations where this router fits- it works great. I have better coverage and a faster connection than the competitors. That said- I also get a clunkier app.

Asus has always been my go to company for routers. They've always worked great and this mesh system is no different. I tested my WiFi connection all the way down to the end of my block which is 3 houses down and i was still getting 53Mbps which is absolutely crazy. The interface is easy to read and its really easy to setup. You can't go wrong with this system.

Bought to replace a 7 year old ASUS 6000 series router Easy to set up and works like a charm in a 3 level house +- 4000 sq feet. Have one on the ground and on on the second level. WiFi speeds are consistent throughout for the past month. Multiple users and lots of Zoom meetings and high res music. Highly recommend.

I upgraded from a single old nighthawk router in the basement (where the cable modem is) to ZenWifi AX. Was very easy to install. Just load the software, plug in the base unit and node (interchangeable), update firmware, place node where you want it and that is it. The most challenging thing was getting all of my devices updated to the new wifi which just took some time.
I have had a few drops but now get coverage all over the house (2 stories with 2700 sq ft + basement), on the deck and out in the yard with full signal. I do not get max speed all over but the signal is 3 bars whereas I would not get a signal on the deck or in the yard before.
It was hard to find. I kept checking the Best Buy website and finally got one. With kids at home and working from home now...Keep trying. It is worth it.

I never write reviews but since I'm so surprised with the product I feel I should. I have 400 MPS spectrum internet. I was running a Eero mesh (3 mesh system) system only about 2 years old, would get from 125 upstairs near one of the mesh plug in and around 225 near the main router. With the Asus Zen AX (2 mesh system) I'm getting minimum of 350 upstairs and I don't have a mesh upstairs they are both downstairs on the main level and 450 most all downstairs. That's a 100% increase no matter how I look at it. I'm not technical when it comes to this stuff so just followed the app set up procedure and Bamm up and running in 20 minutes. Got the latest update and has worked flawlessly now for over a month. Not sure why some negative reviews but for me it has done what I hoped it would do and then some.

I bought these after yet ANOTHER Netgear router had driven me to frustration with crappy, inconsistent speed and frequent drops.
I had never used ASUS networking devices before, and these are amazing.
If you are not a serious techie, setup is easy and can be done from the cellphone app.
If you're a computer junkie, this setup gave me more flexibility, more settings, and more information about what my network was doing than Netgear ever could. I only need one of these devices to cover my whole house, but the second one really boosts the signal for the kids' bedrooms.
Stupid simple to set up. Smart and powerful if you want more control. High recommended

The product is great if you know what you're doing. Initially, had some issues with Comcast where the router would go done on occasion. The fix was really simple, it was to change DHCP query frequency from "Aggressive" to "Normal". I would not recommend this product to people who want things to just work.
Things that are plugged directly into the second node have almost full internet speeds even when on wireless backhaul. This is great if you don't have ethernet ports set up and want to take advantage of speeds in different rooms. However, speeds will vary depending on distance between the node and the router.
