I spent a lot of time researching different wifi mesh systems and this is the one I landed on. The app and set up are pretty simple and quick. Pairing didn’t take long. The app itself is easy to navigate though a bit redundant for me in some ways as my ISP has a similar app. I like the overall versatility of being able to move and having the extra connections. My only real gripe is the connection was fine in one area initially and then it just wouldn’t connect to the central node. Now its stuck on a weak signal but it does extend my wifi significantly even now. Even moving it hasn’t really helped but can’t complain too much as my modem is stuck downstairs in the garage.

Works with ASUS ROG1100AX router… I bought these 2 units to set up an AiMesh network to alleviate a couple weak spots. I have approximately 35-40 devices connected at any given time, including IoT, HomeKit and a couple Ring products. The only snag I encountered was the Ring doorbell pro didn’t play well with 2.4ghz, which is what I was setting aside for all the smart devices. Moved it to 5ghz and as a precaution and set up port forwarding, and no issues since! I really like that you can IP bind devices to the closest router to prevent the mesh setup from moving devices across the nodes. Overall, very happy with connectivity, and if you can justify the expense, a worthy upgrade to your home network.

2.4GHz IOT/smart devices unusable with this

No issues with 5GHz. If you only use 5GHz devices then this is a good router. Giving 3 stars for the 2.4GHz performance 2.4GHz and IOT/smart devices: I bought this router after extensive research because I have more than 50 devices in my home and the majority of them are smart devices locked to 2.4GHz. Asus XT8 allows you to set two different names for 2.4GHz and 5GHZ - this resolves issues that you might experience. However, in use over a week my smart devices frequently lost connection. Sometimes turn/off signals will reach the device after 1 min or so. If you are thinking this was a distance issue, i had my devices within 2-3 ft and still had the same issue. I also tried having one device to confirm there was no conflict between two units - did not help. Its just horrible for IOT devices. Best Buy issue: If you turned in your old router for recycle in Best Buy and bought this with in-store 15% discount - when you return they will not give you back your old router or the 15% off coupon. I had to learn this the hard way.

Do not buy - disconnects regularly

I knew when I bought this router series that it is not the most user friendly device, but at this price, I expected that once the router is set up that it would work properly. However, the Router regularly disconnects from the Modem - working with Motorola & ISP, the modem does not appear to be the issue. After spending hours figuring out the best way to get the Router and Modem reconnected, I still have no idea why this keeps happening. Asus technical support is beyond terrible. I would have returned if possible, but the router was fine through the return period. Now it disconnects almost daily. The Firmware is up to-date. Asus referred me to BestBuy help. DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT. It's great when it works, but having to reboot it once or twice a day is terribly annoying.

Very impressed with how easy this was to set up. One small problem. One of my computers could not "see" the network. After looking at several on line suggestions and finding no solution, I simply turned off the 806.11ax in the settings and problem solved. Apparently that older computer does not have a network adapter driver compatible to .ax. It would have been nice to have that suggestion in the ASUS help and support.

TLDR: System constantly switches back to 2.4GHz uplink, despite a dedicated ethernet backhaul. Any fix seems to be temporary, but the jury is still out. The 15-day Best Buy return window killed me, particularly as I was troubleshooting so if I were to do it over again I’d just buy whatever Costco has in stock. I’m giving this 2 stars where I sit today after a considerable amount of troubleshooting, although depending on your needs it could easily deserve zero stars, or if my issues are down to user error / if I got a lemon it may deserve 4 (I’m skeptical though). I bought this system as my wife and I are working from home and the ISP-provided router was garbage and kept dropping video calls for both of us. We aren’t in a particularly large house, but our offices are on opposite sides and separate floors (modem is in my office), so a mesh system seemed the best. We purchased this particular system as it seemed to be the cream of the crop as far as mesh wifi 6 solutions go, but if I could do it over again there is absolutely no way I would buy it again. Initially we were using the wireless mesh system (long-term plan was to run a wired backhaul), but the node uplink kept dropping to 2.4, rendering video calls impossible. Again, our house isn’t that big and it wasn’t a distance issue, but the only way to revert back to 5GHz was to power cycle. This would happen at least once a day, so we turned the node off and I spent a couple days running ~60’ of ethernet cable through our basement and walls. Now the node has a dedicated backhaul, but it still switches back to 2.4 which is absolutely mind boggling. I submitted a request with ASUS, filled out a form riddled with typos and unclear directions, submitted additional operating logs from the routers, and attempted to implement a fix over the phone only for it to cut off my internet. The system has a setting to toggle wired backhaul on/off (only through a browser, not the app), which was the recommended fix. This “broke” my internet the first time I tried over the phone, as well as the next trying on my own, but the third time it seems to be working after turning off power saving mode located under admin settings. It’s been a little over 24 hours and it hasn’t switched back, so it may be working as intended now (although god forbid I ever need to switch back to a wireless backhaul). After going through all of the above I decided to just return it to Best Buy and get a system from a different manufacturer. I was at 29 days since I received the system, and after contacting Best Buy to initiate a return I was informed that there is a 15-day return window and I would have to go through ASUS (which I had been trying up until this point). The 15-day policy is clearly stated on their website, so this one’s on me but still a bummer considering I have a semi-functioning $450 set of routers that may just turn into a set of paper weights. I regret not just buying whatever Costco had in stock, as it probably would have been fine for my needs and if I had any issues I wouldn’t have to worry about their return policy. Live and learn. If you aren’t planning on running a dedicated ethernet backhaul between routers I would absolutely avoid purchasing this like the plague, and if you are I would still avoid purchasing, but who knows maybe you'll have better luck.

Okay so here me out. This is unit definitely puts out great speeds. I’m signed up on a 1 gig plan and the unit I put upstairs was helping my Xbox get 6-700 mbps pretty consistently. I felt like I’d landed the jackpot with this unit. So here lies the rub. The unit would stop running every 15-30 minutes. It would only be for a few seconds but my zoom calls would lag and my games would freeze and it was unbearable. No way should a unit that is almost $500 dollars be having these kind of issues. I’m pretty tech savvy and I tried everything to fix it changed settings, moved it around my house. Only to find out online that this is an issue that’s been going on for years and the company just hasn’t fixed it yet. I swapped back to my older Link-sys mesh system and I haven’t had one issue of dropped internet again. Also the app I terrace wasn’t my favorite, better than some company’s but certainly not the best. Ultimately don’t waste your time on this particular unit. I’m sure Asus has other great products but this one is definitely a dud and certainly not worth the prices they are charging.

Setup was easy with the phone app. Everything just worked. The only issue I had was I would start dropping internet randomly. Turns out I just needed to connect to the router though my computer and clone the comcast mac address. Then I set some query setting I cant remember to normal instead of aggressive. It's been steady for weeks.

Purchased due to Covid-19 increased internet use in a family of 5. Setup was simple and quick. Took less than 5 minutes. Wifi throughput increased significantly compared to prior Linksys router. House coverage greatly expanded and smart switching between main router and satellite router was seamless. A terrific feature is the dedicated contact between main router and satellite. Asus mobile app is easy to use and provides many nice features and controls (if one of my kids hogs too much bandwidth I can cut them off or limit the amount!). Have had for 2 days so I can't comment on reliability, but so fr, product exceeds expectations.

Let me start by saying that I have had a couple of ASUS laptops throughout the years and I think they are great. Additionally, I am have been a Network Engineer for over 25 years. I am very familiar with wireless networking and network troubleshooting, so my issues are not something caused by user error. Sadly, I have to return this product. It just does not work well. I have several IoT devices that attach to my wireless network. I wanted this product so that I could segregate these IoT devices to their own network for security purposes. This was achieved easily enough; just create a Guest network for these devices and reconfigure the remaining devices to attach to the main network. Unfortunately, the problem is that the network constantly drops devices for what seems to be no reason. I turned off every bell and whistle that comes with the device (security, parental controls, etc) and the devices just kept dropping anyway. Last night was the final straw. I had several IoT devices just stop connecting to the network. I had to go to each device and physically power cycle them to get them back online. I had already experienced this several times with my phone as well. This is not what I want to do every couple of weeks. This morning, I finally collapsed the IoT devices and my personal devices back to a single network, and the problems persisted. I will say that I am on the latest firmware (which is listed as beta (it is supposed to fix the IoT issues from a previous version....it doesn't). I did not roll it back to a previous version as from what I read, the same issue appeared in those versions. I will be returning this product today.

Not very happy with this product. WiFi speeds have not increased (with WiFi 6 enabled). When running one SSID for both 2.4 and 5ghz, none of my smart devices (that only use 2.4) will stay connected. HomeKit can never communicate with them. The node constantly disconnects from the router despite being hardwired in with cat 7 cable. It will always drop the Ethernet for the wireless connection despite being defaulted for Ethernet. If I turn off the setting to allow it to connect wirelessly to the router, it will stop working completely because the Ethernet will just stop working. I’ve used several cables for a connection and it still drops. I had an Orbi before this and never had any issues that I’m having now, and Orbi was far cheaper but way more reliable. The only reason I switched was for WiFi 6 and usb 3.0 ports so I can use hard drives now as network drives. I would not recommend to anyone looking to speed up their home network. There are cheaper, far better options available.
