I replaced an older Orbi RBK/S50 system that had a bad WAN port on the main unit with this offering from ASUS. Installation / setup was a breeze. The nodes all auto-configured (minus the settings I change from default) and life was good. After having this for several weeks, I see frequent instances of : Wifi network disappearing, all units losing connection, and gradual network recovery. Wifi remaining up, but all units plugged wired into a unit will lose connection for 5-10 minutes. I can literally log into the admin interface wirelessly, but no wired client can have connection. Once, the whole system decided to switch to the 2GHz network, even though each node was set to prioritize the 6GHz (hidden ssid) for the backhaul, and the unit simply was not broadcasting a 5GHz signal, even though the UI said it did. Rebooting the router did fix this issue. Overall: This is obviously cheaper than an Orbi setup. It performs like it is obviously cheaper than an Orbi setup. When it works, it is fantastic. It doesn't work often enough that I am considering scrapping this (now I'm out of my return window) and biting the bullet for another Orbi system.

      Dear tsweatt383,

Thank you for bringing this to our attention and I certainly understand your frustration. When possible please try disabling Smart Connect in the router's WEB GUI. On the Left sidebar click on Wireless and Smart Connect should be the first on top, ensure it's disabled. If you’re still experiencing issues, feel free to contact me if you have any technical or general questions. You can reach me at [email protected]. Please copy a link to this post as a reference.

      Thank you for choosing ASUS!

Decided to replace my 7 year old Orbi router and satellite with this 3 pack Asus kit. I have much improved coverage throughout the entire house now and 6E band devices reach 600mbps speeds. The app to setup and configure is top tier, and includes a lifetime security feature unlike Netgear that charges you for an add-on. As a network engineer I 100% recommend this setup for fast reliable WiFi and improved cybersecurity in your home

If you have an asus router with mesh capability, these make great nodes. They pair easily and help extend out your coverage area. I have 90% of my home smart switched, with cameras, and multiple devices, and with using the 6 gig bands, it frees up my other channels so there is no congestion.

This router works well to connect all of the devices in my home. The three networks provide all the necessary pathways to accommodate newer and older tech. The only issue I've experienced is the nodes occasionally drop off the network and have to be rebooted to bring them back online.

As WiFi it's very solid but if you've got a lot of interference from the neighbors, you'll want to setup with Ethernet Backhaul, or you'll deal with signal drops. Once I setup MoCA Cable to Ethernet network have had zero issues.

    Nice UI, Terrible WiFi

The setup and UI is great on these, but they are genuinely terrible when it comes to connection. I have them all set up with wired backhaul, but I am constantly having to reboot them or factory reset them in order to maintain any sort of wifi connection. And this isn't just for the mesh nodes. The main one that's being used as a router is the worst offender. I'm sitting 3 ft from it right now and can't get my phone or sons PS4 to connect to it via WIFI. I would return them if they were still in return windos. ASUS has been less than helpful with customer support, stating that they can send me a new one if I pay up front for it; but even when trying that option, they told me they were out of stock. I tried a second set from Amazon to see if it was these units or just how they function as a whole, and the Amazon set performs the same or worse.

      Dear DonW,

      Thank you for your comment.

We do understand your disappointment with the product and the inconvenience this may have caused if you are experiencing unstable or weak signal strength. To resolve the weak signal, place the routers in the center of the area you want to cover, avoid placing the router near metal objects, electronic devices or direct sunlight, position the router on a flat, hard surface and halfway between the floor and ceiling. Additionally, dense building materials, such as gypsum, concrete walls and planks can affect Wi-Fi signal penetration. Also, we recommend updating the Mesh router firmware if it is running with an older version. Firmware is available for download at:  https://www.asus.com/us/networking-iot-servers/whole-home-mesh-wifi-system/zenwifi-wifi-systems/asus-zenwifi-axe7800/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=ASUS-ZenWiFi-AXE7800. Furthermore, check if the routers' security credentials matches with your ISP's modem credentials. Check if the PC or device connecting to the routers is working properly and within range to the routers, the routers' are within 30 feet to the ISP's modem, if not wired with a network cable, and ISP's internet service or connection is working properly or stable. Legacy devices may not work properly with WIFI6e, please check updates for these devices. Also, try connecting this manually to either 2.4GHz or 5GHz.

Should you need further assistance with the product, please email me at [email protected] and I would be more than happy to help. Or you are most welcome to call Product Support Hotline at: 1(888) 678-3688. Also, you can chat with an ASUS live support agent from the link: https://www.asus.com/us/support/article/1135/.

Thank you for choosing an ASUS product.

I have to say that I am extremely impressed with the ZenWiFi AXE7800. I don't normally write reviews and I was hesitant to buy an Asus wireless router. I knew that Asus made motherboards and other PC products, but was unsure of their wireless products. The ZenWiFi AXE7800 offers an incredibly high level of control over your entire wireless network. If you're looking for a whole home mesh wifi system that allows for a great deal of flexibility, I highly recommend that you take a look at the Asus products.

I was having trouble getting WiFi to my wifes She Shed. I tried powerline adapters and extenders and was on the verge of getting my IP to run a line. I visited the store and spoke to a rep and told him the problem. He asked about my router, which is an ASUS ROG that I love. He showed me the ASUS ZenWiFi AXE 7800. BAM, just like that, my wife is streaming HGTV and her other shows, and as they say, "Happy wife, Happy life."

I had issues with this. It kept causing my iPhones to freeze up. I spent over days reading and changing settings which helped a little, but just didn’t work. Also setting up all three was a big pain. You have to activate and update them one at a time. The instructions say to activate all of them together.

This is my 2nd ASUS mesh network. My previous was WiFi 5 routers and I would see 500-600 max download, but I was getting a lot of disconnects on my VPN for remote work. The new routers are giving me faster speeds, better coverage and I’ve had zero disconnects of my vpn. The previous routers were older, one as much as 10-11 years old, so they were due for a change. I followed the setup using the ASUS app and had no issues. I am not a tech person, I hope these last forever so I don’t need to fool with WiFi again, but chances are I’ll replace them in the future with whatever ASUS system is current.
