AI Mesh Ethernet backhaul not working

I have an up and running network consisting of a ZenWifi BT10 router and a ZenWifi BT10 AI Mesh node using Ethernet back haul. I purchased this router to use as an AI Mesh node on my deck at the back of my house to increase my networks signal\range. I ran Cat 6 Ethernet cable and used a POE injector to power this unit. Initial setup was a little tedious but after the third try I was up and running as an AI Mesh node using Ethernet back haul as verified with the ASUS App on my cell phone and the web interface on my PC. After the initial install I would check the status every day or two to see if my TV and FireTV Cube were actually connecting to this device or my ZenWifi BT10 mesh node, it was. Everything was working great. Around the 1st of November I checked my network through through my PC and router. The BD5 was offline. I checked it and noticed a red led blinking on the front. I brought the BD5 inside, did a reset and tried the setup process again. MULTIPLE TIMES. The only way I could get this thing back online was with wireless back haul. Once it was back up and running I changed the settings in my main router (ZenWifi BT10) to Ethernet back haul and that brought down the BD5 again. The only way to bring this back was doing a reset and going through the configuration process again using wireless back haul. Right now I`m using this as an access point but probably not for long as I don`t want another SSID added to my network. It appears that a firmware update was pushed down on the 27th of October for this unit. I noticed the first offline event on November 1st which was a week after my last network check. I may go back to wireless back haul but more than likely I will do a complete reset and donate this to Goodwill and let someone else experience the same frustration as I have.

Dear SkinnyBee,
Thank you for your comment.
We do understand your disappointment with this router and the inconvenience this may have caused if it suddenly stop working as an AI Mesh Ethernet backhaul. To resolve the issue, you should first ensure all firmware is up to date and perform a hard factory reset on the node. There is a firmware Version 3.0.0.6.102_58147 for the BD5 available at: https://www.asus.com/networking-iot-servers/whole-home-mesh-wifi-system/zenwifi-wifi-systems/asus-zenwifi-bd5-outdoor/helpdesk_bios?model2Name=ASUS-ZenWiFi-BD5-Outdoor , Additionally, ensure your ZenWiFi routers have the most current firmware version installed. Then, you need to configure the main router to AP (Access Point) mode and manually set the node's backhaul connection priority to "Ethernet first". Finally, check your CAT5e ethernet are still working properly.

I bought this as an extension to my ASUS Zenwifi mesh system, specifically as an extension for my iot network in my garage. Works well in that role.

Could not connect all IoT devices

I purchased this access point to give my IoT devices a bit more signal. However, this thing totally ignores half of my IoT devices and those devices can only pick up the signal from the main router. After all the factory resets, SSID creation, firmware updates, along with many other steps. I still can't get half of my devices to connect. Making this access point totally useless to me.

Dear JoseM,
Thank you for your comment.
We do understand your disappointment with this router and the inconvenience this may have caused if half of your IoT devices cannot connect. To resolve this connection issue, place the router in the center of the area you want to cover, avoid placing the router near metal objects, electronic devices or direct sunlight, position the router on a flat, hard surface and halfway between the floor and ceiling. Additionally, dense building materials, such as gypsum, concrete walls and planks can affect Wi-Fi signal penetration. If these IoTs' are legacy devices, they may not work properly with WIFI-7, check updates for these devices. Also, try connecting this manually to either 2.4GHz or 5GHz.

I love the router. I hate Spectrum for having a modem which blocks traffic to a 3rd party router.

Typically I'm a Netgear shopper, but bought the ASUS gaming router for neighborhood HOA Pool and added this extender. Completely plug and play to create Mesh and a seamless experience. Great coverage, very impressed with the coverage.
