I've struggled for years to hear my spouse clearly during quiet conversations. These hearing aids have given me that clarity back. They're easy to use and don't draw any attention, which I love.

There is a place for Value Priced Hearing Aids

Compared to just a few years ago, the technical capabilities of hearing aids available to hearing impaired people like myself, has never been so wide. The field ranges from very high-end medically prescribed hearing aids, to over-the-counter (OTC) devices like the Atom 2. There is now something for every budget to fit many different needs.
At the Value end of the performance scale, we have what are essentially simple general sound amplifiers with tiny speakers and microphones that fit generically into either ear and just make EVERYTHING louder. At the other end, we have computer controlled/programmed devices, which through comprehensive hearing tests, are specifically programmed to boost primarily the frequency-failing-GAPS that the user has. Meanwhile, in those high-end units, the frequencies that the user has no trouble with, are left un-boosted. Some hearing aids use technology similar to noise-cancelling headphones to further lower the volume of frequencies the user can hear well, to further help them to concentrate on those troublesome higher frequencies. That technology can get rid of some of the background noises in a loud restaurant for example. However, not everyone (or their insurance) can go for the highest end units. Also, in my case what I was looking for was a SPARE hearing aid, that I could travel with, in case I -->AGAIN<-- lose my primary hearing aids. It would be similar to taking a spare set of prescription glasses with you on a trip. Another problem with high-end hearing aids, is that they are so specifically tailored to your hearing and ear canal shape, that if you lose them, it can be weeks before you can get another hearing-test and fitting to have another pair made. That happened to me and the Audien Atom 2 is the answer to that problem. Also, the generic nature of the Atom 2 hearing aids means in a pinch, I could visit any Best Buy and walk out with a replacement set in minutes instead of weeks.
FEATURES:
· Comfortable (for my ears) fit.
· Comes with charging case, USB cable AND a 120V Wall Adapter
· Recharges in about 3 hours
PROS:
· Makes a good spare back-up set
· Sound Volume in each ear can be independently adjusted. NOTE: the Audien Atom 2 tends to OVER amplify. That means you usually have to lower the volume after you install the hearing aids. If you don’t lower the volume, it will often create a feedback squeal, which can be very annoying to both you and people near you. Keep in mind that if you get feedback squealing, the cure is to LOWER the volume setting. I use setting 1 of 5.
· Comes with a cleaning brush and many consumable parts like ear-wax guards (with replacement tool) and silicone ear buds of different sizes.
CONS:
· 45 DAY Warranty
· Because of the location of the volume button, the volume is invariably changed (usually higher) when you try to insert the hearing aid. This means you have to readjust it EVERY time you put it in your ear.
· Tends to develop a feedback squeal (common to many hearing aids). To help cure this, refer to the “Sound Volume” description in the “PROS:” section above.
CONCLUSION:
As I said, there is an important place for hearing aids like the Audien Atom 2. It fits many budgets and makes a great spare.

Decent Entry Level OTC Hearing Aids

These are really decent hearing aids. They were really easy and quick to setup. They fit snugly in a very compact charging case making it easy to continually keep them powered by simply charging them overnight while sleeping.
The package has everything needed to properly maintain (including cleaning), charge, and use the hearing aids, nothing extra is needed. The instruction manuals are extremely detailed making this very easy.
Overall, they work very well for being entry level hearing aids and almost as well as ones with more features. A huge option (especially since they're entry level) is the ability to adjust the settings for each hearing aid individually, which is great with different levels of hearing loss in each ear.
It also comes with different size tips like earpods so you can find the perfect fit and to maximize their use and comfort. The sound is a little artificial sounding though which is the only reason I can't give it a full five stars. Overall, these are very good entry level hearing aids.

Affordable and Effective Sound Amplification

Over the years I have experienced some minor hearing loss, so I was looking forward to trying these hearing aids to see if they helped my situation. After using them for a few days, I can definitely say that these hearing aids work. They effectively amplify sound and project it into the ear canal.
In the last few years hearing aids became approved for Over The Counter (OTC) sales. Previously hearing aids required a medical exam, a professional fitting, and an expensive purchase from a limited number of hearing aid vendors. Now that has changed, consumers can now directly purchase devices that aid hearing. I never agreed with the previous policy because it prevented people with limited resources from having access to hearing aids.put hearing aids.
These hearing aids are easy to set up and use. They can be customized in several different ways to suit personal preferences and individual hearing levels. The device offers 4 hearing modes and 5 volume levels. The device is rated to last up to 24 hours.
Most importantly I found the sound quality to be excellent. There is no discernible distortion. Speech is amplified and background noise is reduced. I was amazed by how clear speech sounded.
I found these hearing aids to overall be comfortable to wear. I found wearing them to be similar to wearing ear buds. Eventually I get tired of having something in my ear and need to take a break. They are relatively tiny and create a minimal footprint.
I can recommend these hearing aids enthusiastically because they really work. How effective they will be to everyone out there is impossible for me to say. I have very minor hearing loss so the benefit I experienced may be different for others. But I think that before someone gets expensive hearing aids from a medical professional, they should try these hearing aids to see if they help.

Good for what it is. Not a medical substitute.

I suffer from ringing ears after years of loud music and feedback from amps. This is not a substitute for a real medical device. But, it does help you in the mean time to do a few things.
1. assist in getting your hearing to be slightly louder
2. get you use to wearing a in ear device
3. let you know what type of hearing loss you have (low, mid, hi frequency loss)
4. give you a idea how to change the sound enchantments for different areas (crowds, quiet, low volume, etc).
This is good and does hide much better than other hearing aids I have tried in the past. Smaller and more feature rich than my current device. It does not connect via bluetooth to control settings, so for this price range it is not surprising. My biggest complaint is that it starts out at full volume everytime I take them out of the charging case. Which makes it hard to not hear feedback before you insert them in my ears. Also you have to make sure they are fully seated in the charging areas as the lid will still close if they are not and will not charge. Mine kept beeping until I figured out they were still on.
Here are the contents of importance:
1. hearing aids
2. charging case (aids last about 18 hours depending on volume level) that will charge the aids about 2 times.
3. instructions
4. wax guards
so even with the lack of features, bluetooth app control, or memory for last setting, I would still get them for myself or someone else that needs hearing help and can't afford real hearing aids or awaiting for a proper medical appt.

I don’t have officially diagnosed hearing issues, but I’ve noticed that the older I get, the less I’m able to hear clearly. I was looking for an inexpensive solution, so I decided to try these Audien Atom 2 hearing aids. My goal was to give me some amplification to better hear voices in noisy environments. I was less concerned about fancy feature likes app control or Bluetooth.
The first thing I noticed about these Audien hearing aids is that they are not right or left ear specific. The two aids are identical, so they can be used in either ear. They come with an assortment of “cups” to help with fitting in various sized ears. Unfortunately, none of them were a good fit for me, but I don’t fault Audien for this as I have never been able to comfortable wear any ear buds. I guess I just have strangely shaped or sized ears! Besides being a comfort issue, this can also introduced some feedback in the form of high-pitched squealing because the speaker is not totally isolated from the mic. I really have to press these tightly, almost painfully into my ear to keep this from happening.
Each one has a small tether to make it easy to pull them out of your ear. These feel well-made so I think they will last. Each one has a button for adjusting the mode and volume. It’s easy to use once you read the instructions, but I found little need to adjust modes because changing between them made little difference. These are easy to put into and retrieve from the charging case. If you’ve every used any Bluetooth earbuds, the process will be familiar, but even easier as either one fits in either slot of the charging case. The case charges fast using the included (or any) USB-C cord. The hearing aids themselves last a long time. I used them for over 10 hours each day and they never ran out of power between charges.
My main issue with these hearing aids is just the overall performance. They do amplify sound, but they seem to amplify all sound, including the background noise that I was trying to overcome. They do offer several different modes that claim to help mask unwanted noise, but none of the settings seemed to work any better. Basically these just make all sounds louder. I was hoping that these hearing aids would have some electronic processing to only amplify voices and filer our background noise, but that didn’t seem to be the case. Regardless, they were helpful.
Although I said I did not care for fancy features, I do wish these had Bluetooth for taking phone calls. The problem is, when using my phone, these don’t work well so I have to remove them. If they had Bluetooth, it would have been more convenient. Also, they need to be removed when listening to music or TV audio through a home theater or sound bar because the resulting audio is very poor sounding. Again, with Bluetooth, at least that might sound better.
Overall, these hearing aids seem well-made, and the price is very affordable compared to prescription-grade devices. Still, I just don’t find them as useful as I was hoping. I really can’t recommend these. In fact, I’ve found a phone app that turns any pair of audio earbuds into “hearing aids” and it works better than these dedicated ones.

Audien Hearing - Audien Atom 2 OTC Hearing Aids. I’m discovering the changes that come with aging. And with some resistance I’m making an effort to accept them and find solutions. With the help of an audiologist and some online testing apps, it seems I have moderate hearing loss that could be addressed with OTC hearing aids. These Audien Aton 2 devices are a very reasonably priced solution to my hearing deficit.
As I have aged, conversations in real life or on television appear to be deliberately designed to frustrate me. Mumbling, indistinct pronunciations, and rapid-fire speech are all common features. Restaurants in the past half-century have transformed from quiet, intimate settings into noisy, clashing environments that seem to challenge the very notion of sharing a personal moment.
The Audien Atom 2s are interesting and inviting to try because of what they don’t require of the end user. No phone required. So, of course, no App to master and no testing ritual to perform. These are simply highly modifiable individual ear amplifiers. You can control volume in 5 steps. Additionally, there are four sound contours to address specific environments or problems you might face.
What do they feel like?
The earbuds are very small and smooth but handling them is done confidently with the post extending from the outer end and the buds orientation in your ear is not at all fussy. While they are slightly asymmetrical in shape, they will work no matter how they sit in your ear. Go with what’s comfortable. The four size earbud domes/sleeves are likely to accommodate most ears. Ear comfort was never a problem for me. I’ll elaborate in the next section, but in my use of the earbuds I elicited a steady stream of whistle and squealing when I touched the earbuds to place them in my ear. I also concluded that in these early days of usage, it was better for my nerves to adjust the volume (with button presses) while I was holding each earbud near my ear, but not in it.
Management of the volume and sound mode features requires some practice, but this is no different from my favorite music earbuds and headphones. Relying on button presses at each ear can be tedious. Firstly you need to avoid inadvertently invoking setting changes when placing these earbuds into your ear or adjusting how they sit. And then managing short presses for volume changes which are sequential can be frustrating. Similarly, changing sound modes requires longer (3 second) presses. Volume changes are indicated by the number of BEEPS while sound mode changes are indicated by the number of BOOPS. I suspect readers will find these descriptions amusing and cute. Users may eventually agree but it is a test of patience. While the beeps are easy to hear, even before inserting the earbuds, the boops are more subtle and the earbuds must be inserted. Practice will certainly help.
What do they sound like?
Here’s where the simplicity of the Audien Atom 2 approach is rewarded. Once placed I’m my ear I was immediately rewarded with clear, amplified voices even at the lower volume levels. Voices seemed to jump out of a quieter background in the conversation setting. I’m not sure what audio engineering is involved but the effect brings voices closer and pushes background noise further away. It’s effective.
Issues related to environment and indistinct conversations are neatly solved. Everyday interactions while working or shopping are relieved because voices are now easier to hear, and background noise is suppressed. You can turn yourself into a bat-like super listener of distant conversation if you’re motivated, but voices in the foreground nearby can then become overwhelming. The rest of us, after extended sessions familiarizing yourself with the changes to your hearing these Audien Atoms bring, will benefit from the improvements.
With the earbuds set to conversation, listening to the TV becomes a bit odd. That nifty voice volume emphasis is now a bit annoying because it accentuates some volume pulsing. The Audien Atom appears to dial that effect down considerably in the TV mode, so that’s a setting worth changing to while watching TV programming. I haven’t tried the restaurant settings in that environment and I am curious about what Audien has modified.
Not everything about the features and simple amplification is useful. Enjoying a musical listening session is not that enjoyable. Tonal balance leans towards the treble. Back to my favorite consumer earbuds for that.
SUMMARY: I think the Audien Atom 2 is well worth trying for anyone attempting to improve their modest hearing deficits at a reasonable price. I approached this as an experiment with practical expectations. I agree with the Audien guidance that you will want to start slowly with your use of the earbuds. The results are immediately apparent, and the improvements are exciting. But shorter usage sessions will help you adjust to the vast amount of new auditory information. Using a visual metaphor to explain the effect, the increased stimulation is probably like increased color intensity and increases in contrast and brightness. What starts out great can become too intense and result in eye strain. I like the improvements I get using the Atom 2s, but intermittently, for now. Audien has done a nice job providing a very reasonable hearing loss solution.

I have been trying out the Audient Hearing 2 hearing aids for a while now, but I have experienced far too many issues with them to give a full recommendation. Most importantly, the sound is lacking -- it sounds like an old school AM radio station, but more importantly, I found that when I finally set the volume, they would squeal much too frequently to the point of pain (at least once an hour). Honestly, after this occurred on a few occasions, I was far too concerned to use them outside of the house. Unfortunately, this occurred most frequently in noisier environments where I most need them, so this was not a good fit for my hearing issues.
One other item -- I have fairly good dexterity, but it was incredibly difficult for me to get them out of the case. Just an odd issue for someone who has good finger and grip strength.
The good news is the battery life seems as advertised, and the case is very nice and compact so I could put them away for safe keeping. But again, the problems that I experienced were just a bit too much for my liking.

At first blush the Audien Atom 2 over-the-counter hearing aid looks like a winner.
The price is a bargain compared to many "name brand" hearing aids. It has all the essential features: Rechargeable, small enough to be unobtrusive, simple controls and a works-out-of-the-box design. No app, registration or name and password routine is needed to get them going.
Simplicity is a major virtue when it comes to hearing aids.
Sadly, the functionality of these hearing aids is a lot less impressive than the basic design. In short, I could never get them to work in a way that made them usable.
Maybe my ear canal is strangely shaped or something but all I could ever get out of these things was an annoying squeal. I find this to be a common problem with all hearing aids but it seems to be worse with the generic over the counter models like this one. Troubleshooting suggest the problem is improper (not tight enough) fit in the ear canal or a device clogged with ear wax. Since these were brand new when I tested them, one has to assume the former is to blame.
The Audien Atom 2 comes with several different sized ear tips for best fit (along with a USB cable and charger for charging) but none of them worked for me. Even if could finally get them inserted at low volume, every external sound produced more squeals, instead of amplified sound. So I assume either my ears are deformed in some way or these hearing aids must be jammed into the ear canal so tight (to achieve the proper fit), you could not bear to wear them for more than a few minutes at a time. I have a low tolerance for anything jammed deep into my ear canal so these were never going to work for me.
Unfortunately, that is not the only problem with the Audien Atom 2. It turns of the only way to control these things is a single button on the side you must press against to get the devices into your ears. So you have no choice but constantly keep pressing that button as you attempt to properly position the hearing aids. And every short button push increases the volume. Since these devices squeal constantly while being inserted (that's normal, by the way), that increase in volume becomes unbearable.
Maybe your ears are more compatible but this hearing aid was a definite no go for me.

My Best OTC Hearing Aids to date

This is a review for the Audien Atom 2 OTC Hearing Aids
I will start this review by explaining my hearing loss is a combination of mixed conductive and nerve damage, also I have severe case of tinnitus. I have had stapedectomy surgery on both ears, which helped me hear better in my left ear better than my right ear. With my hearing as such, l use only one hearing aid in my right ear. I have used a lot of different types of hearing aids over the years from audiologist fitted and OTC. With the most recent ones being the OTC type that I found them not to equal in quality and sound. Most of them don't filter out the background noise and the sound is not very easy to control. When offered the opportunity to test the Audien Atom 2, I decided to give them a try and see if they would improve my ability to hear better. So far it has been great. I mostly wear one while watching TV, so we can lower the volume on the TV to a level that is comfortable for me and my spouse to enjoy our favorite TV shows. The only problem I found with them is that I have a small ear canal and they don't fit completely in my ear which makes it a little uncomfortable to wear. With it not fitting correctly in the ear, I do sometimes get the annoying feedback sounds but with the ability to select one of the four different sound levels makes it easier to eliminate the feedback sounds. This OTC hearing aid is the best one that I have used so far. The Audien Atom 2 appears to be made of quality material and workmanship. It comes in a great storage case, with a charger and everything you need to set it up to fit your needs for better hearing. I would recommend this OTC hearing aid to anyone who is tired of poor hearing.

Audien Atom2 Rechargeable OTC Hearing Aids are an option for anyone who needs help with hearing loss. They have 24-hour use at a single charge. They come ready to use right out of the box and come with six extra pairs of buds a wax guard kit a cleaning brush power adapter USBC charging cable and a charging dock.
It works very well and does assist in your hearing, but I find that I'd appreciate a set measured and sized to fit individual hearing aid needs, which would be a better picture for my aunt. I got this for her, and she still likes them, though. They use an A2 chip, so they do have a very clear sound quality. There are two microphones for hearing aid modes, and it also has a hearing loss level.
The pro series I've read also has UV cleaning and noise cancellation as well. For anyone looking to get some more features that will improve the personal experience. If you have a loved one or yourself in search of a little hearing assistance this is definitely one to check out.

These hearing aids don't require a smartphone or app since the controls are very simple. Just press the button on either earpiece to change volume levels from 1 to 5 - you get a corresponding number of beeps to let you know what volume you chose. Likewise goes with the listening mode but by holding a button for about 3 seconds to change mode: conversation, restaurant, TV or outdoor - and you get boops to let you know what mode you are in.
They are small enough to fit completely in your ear so people will have a hard time noticing that you are wearing them. There is no left or right as they will fit either ear. Just press into place and there is a short transparent stem that you use to take them out of you ear.
I like that they are rechargeable but only in the case and only when the case is plugged into the charger. Speaking of charger it does come with about a 2 foot long USB-A to USB-C charging cable and a charger similar to many phone chargers. The supplied cable will give you the capability of charging on the go with a battery pack (not included) or a laptop. I have a couple of USB-C cables plugged into charging ports that I use to charge phones and tablets so I just grab what I have. You don't have to guess if the aids need charging since the case as charge status LEDs.
Along with the charging cable and adapter you also get different size ear domes to fine tune the fit, a cleaning brush and a few ear wax guard removal and install tools.
At first I did panic because I'm a guy and of course we don't read instructions so out of the box the volume was cranked up to max and I was getting horrible squelchy feedback. Then I read the instructions. I got the volume under control quickly and then changed out the ear dome for a tighter fit to reduce or completely eliminate the feedback.
I do notice they are in but that's with any hearing aid. It takes a bit to get used to them but in no time you will get the hang of changing volume and mode as your environment requires.
For an over the counter hearing aid solution these are pretty good and stack up against any other of comparable feature set.

I’ve been having a great experience with these over the counter hearing aids. I love their low profile design and they can easily go unnoticed in public because of that. I would say that my hearing is boosted 30% or better while wearing these earbuds. There is zero feedback, zero squelch, just crystal clear audio from the environment around me and that cannot be said for every hearing aid product that I have tried. I love that you don’t have to change the batteries and the USB-C charger keeps these EarPods charged and going for over 20 hours. The manufacturer rates them at 24 hours, but that was not my case, but 20 hours will suffice. If you need longer use time, there are some out there that will last 30+ hours, but you’ll pay for that in size and weight. The battery life on these hit the middle mark and should be sufficient for most people. These hearing aids are particularly great for listening to the birds outside as well as providing exceptional clarity inside your day-to-day conversations.
