Audio-Technica Delivers a Great Value Table

As an audiophile (2 channel) snob, I was skeptical to buy this even for my kitchen set-up (I planned to purchase a more expensive Rega Planar 2) but the Cherry Hill, NJ Best Buy's inventory of turntables was decimated. I called Mt. Laurel, NJ (my preferred store) and the inventory was also back-ordered.
Since I needed a turntable quickly, I figured for $300 I wasn't expecting hi fidelity. I was definitely surprised when I plugged this into my system: the stock AT-VM95E cartridge sounded clean and crisp, the turntable felt substantial (notwithstanding its plastic shell) and in the end, I think I got a great value.
I prefer belt-driven tables, but the Audio-Technica direct drive is quiet and holds its speed. Set-up was a cinch too, though I would recommend newbies to download the full PDF manual from the AT website (it's not included in the box) to ensure that the anti-skate and the tone arm weight are properly calibrated.
As a final test, I plugged the AT into my McIntosh system and swapped out the At-95E cartridge with a Ortofon Blue I had laying around and this table, while it won't win any beauty contests, delivers a lot of punch for the price. I should note also that I used a Schiit Mani pre-amp in lieu of the on-board pre-amp and they may have cleaned up the sound as well.
Great starter and/or step-up table.

I have had the worst time finding a turntable that doesn't skip like crazy. That said, i love this turntable. I would hive it 5 stars, but the directions were crazy to figure out, especially the plug-in part that goes into the outlet. I still had some trouble skipping until i accidentally rested it half hanging off the surface. Skipping gone. I am sure it is mot supposed to be that way, but I ain't moving it. Go figure. I appreciate being able to adjust balance of stylus and lever to lift and lower it. Andcthe sound!!!! Fantastic

It has the essential features to satisfy a wide variety of LP enthusiasts (listeners who does not need to do DJ scratching), from beginner to pre-audiophile. Bluetooth allows to listen anywhere and while doing something, line out gets you connected to a wide variety of pro, semipro, home audio equipment; phono - for those who can afford pre-amps that can beat the built-in one. I compared the line out and phono through old Sharp power amp and absolutely happy with the quality of the line output. Bluetooth is ok, but cannot compare against line or phono outs. The best thing of all is that I can upgrade the stylus an the cartridge, which makes big difference, but before upgrading, try to adjust weight of the arm from 2 to 3 and see if that will make any difference. I like this turntable. It is priced well.

I was recommended the audio technical 120 turntable and it did not disappoint. Easy set up, Bluetooth is easy to set and has other features not yet used. I connect the turntable via Bluetooth to my Bose soundbar. I have been watching less TV and enjoying my records.

After having spent my youth borrowing my brother's turntable, and then setting aside albums, as most of us did, with the rise of cassettes and cds, I decided to join the movement back into plaiying albums a few years ago. My first purchase of a turntable was the AT LP60, and I really enjoyed the sound. I became curious about the potential improvements that might be enjoyed with an upgraded turntable. I moved the LP60 into another room and bought the LP120xUSB for my office where it would get the most use. I was very impressed by the new turtable's sturdy base, the overall design, and the easy set-up process. Best of all, this relatively inexpensive upgrade generated a superior sound that I thoroughly enjoyed. My only regret is that I couldn't get over my need for a turntable that at least had a semiautomatic capability. If you can forego the convenience of a semiautomatic or fully automatic turntable, this one is a winner.

I don't have much to say about this turntable. It's quality through and through. Setup is easy, and the sound is awesome. Bluetooth is icing on the cake. Definitely looks like a high end device. If you're new to vinyl records, definitely go with this one as an all around turntable. I've certainly have been enjoying it. With the direct drive system, I have no worries it will last me years.

Awesome turntable. I would recommend that if you want a great turntable at a reasonable price that you get your hands on this one. Reminds me of some of the vintage direct drive tables I have owned back in the day. I have several high end tables and I find myself using this one more and more and oh yeah the bluetooth is a really nice option to have and it is easy to use and sounds great!!

Got a different turntable for Christmas and i had to return it as it was one i didnt care for. I picked this bad baby out in the store and Im so glad I paid a little extra over what my return was worth to join the mid level tier of tables. This is a great upper middle range unit with all the modern features and has a nice sleek classic look to it as well. I might upgrade the needle stylus but i dont need to do anything to it. Sounds amazing

After many years of spinning vinyl on a very vintage turntable I took a chance on this much updated model and it has not disappointed.
I highly recommend watching online video of the initial setup of the table and arm. My old one had a weight adjustable arm and anti skate as well, but the methodology is a little different because of the design.
Once setup it spins vinyl really well, plenty of performance from the stock cartridge and I’m sure could be easily swapped out with higher performance ones for those looking for even more. As for me, the stock one will ride on it until I notice degradation then I’ll do the upgrade.
The only negative is that it doesn’t have an auto return/off cycle. But that’s really a ‘nice but not necessary’ feature in my book. The necessary features are all there Nd some I’ve seen on some higher end tables.
Oh, the only other complaint is with the dust cover hinges. They fit loosely in both the back of the unit and in the dust cover itself, no compression retention at all. When you go to remove the dust cover they both just slide out and fall. I added a tiny amount of double backed tape to the cover slots and now they remain securely with the cover.
I also love the ability to select line out for direct feed to my powered speakers. I’ve tried the Bluetooth and found the sound quality lacking…but that wasn’t any surprise.
Overall I’m very pleased with the performance, especially at the price point.

I am so glad that I held on to all my old vinyl records...from the Supremes Greatest Hits to Stevie Wonder Songs In the Key of Life, Phobe Snow, all of Phyllis Hymen, Atlantic Star I've been singing and dancing like no one is watching! They're dusty and haven't been touched in about 15 yrs, but on this Audio Technica turntable...WOW. Time stands still and I party on.
Only con is I wish it had auto stop/return so the arm would lift and return when the album finishes playing. Great buy for quality sound with bluetooth below $300 bucks.

Great Sound Quality and Feature Set

It's really hard to beat the combination of features in the AT-LP120X BT USB. About the only thing missing is auto stop or auto return. And that's missing because purists prefer fully manual turntables to avoid the chance of extra mass influencing the sound.
The sound quality from this turntable and the included 95E stylus is very good. And there are other styli you can upgrade to without having to change out the cartridge. Yes, there are more expensive turntables with higher sound quality. But with the LP120X you are well into the range of "diminishing returns" on sound quality. There are comparison videos online against the infamous Technics SL-1200. The differences are small, and can be easily missed if you're not paying close attention. That's how good the LP120X is.
If I have one sound quality complaint it is the built-in preamp. It's not bad, it just doesn't have enough gain in my opinion. Whether this affects you or not will depend on what you are plugging it into. But you may find yourself adding an external preamp with a variable gain.
If you plan to play 78 rpm records, keep in mind that you will want to purchase the dedicated 78 rpm stylus. And if you will be changing between 33/45 and 78 frequently, you will probably want a 2nd head and cartridge. Fortunately Audio-Technica sells a complete kit with head, cartridge, and stylus for not that much more than the stylus alone. And there is a place on the turntable to store a spare head. Changing the stylus isn't difficult, but if you have a complete head it's as simple as unscrewing one and screwing on the other.
USB out with Audacity running on a Mac or PC works flawlessly for digitizing your LPs with lossy 16/44.1 or 16/48. And while I prefer analog connections direct to my receiver to avoid Bluetooth lossy compression, Bluetooth will let you get the music to headphones or a device out of reach of an RCA cable.
I'm not sure what else to say. It's a fantastic turntable with great sound quality, and with an unmatched feature set for the price. I highly recommend it.

Love the sound and quality of this player! I needed an upgrade and did lots of research. I have no plans to become a DJ, but wanted something to enjoy my vinyl collection on. Instructions are pictures which didn't explain very well on how to balance the tone arm, but a quick google search led me to a video that helped explain the pictures. The player ended up fitting perfectly on the record stand I already owned and it was up and running through my JBL soundbar within a hour.

This is going to get audiophiles in a fit, but it's true; if you are looking to get a Technics for any reason other than bragging rights, then don't. Get this instead. You'll be just as satisfied getting this and upgrading the cartridge for a half to a quarter of the price.
Never bothered using the Bluetooth feature. What's the point? If I want convenience, I'd be using Spotify. But everything else was just great.

Purhased this for our son who got into vinyl a year ago. He was on a Crosby, so jumping to this is huge step up. This is the closest you will get to a Technics 1200 MK 11 with some extras like blue tooth and at this price. Solid build and sounds great. Just swap the cartridge and needle and you are set.

I read the reviews prior to making this purchase and should have looked at the platter issue more closely. The issue that the metal platter has is the amount of static it produces, you have to make sure that every vinyl LP is free of all dust or you get a lot of static pops. There are times that the mat sticks to the album when you take it off the platter. I am going to try an acrylic mat and see if that cures the problem.
The sound on this turntable is fantastic once you get past the static issues. I have albums that are 46 years old and are in perfect shape, no dust or static issues and the sound comes out beautifully. The cartridge is adequate for the price point.
Final point is the setup. If you do not feel comfortable setting the weight on the tone arm you should see if Best Buy does that. I have set numerous tone arms so it was not an issue for me. The plugs are standard RCA plugs and are easy to plug and play.

Upgraded to this from the AT-LP70X that was skipping on almost every record I put on it. With the calibration settings from the documentation, this has played absolutely everything I've thrown at it without issue, not a single skip. Having the ability to adjust weight and anti-skate is essential, and the builtin preamp is a nice perk. The build quality is also significantly better feeling than the AT-LP70X versions. The audio quality is superb. I should have invested in this turntable from the start.

Huge upgrade over the LP60X turntable

I love this turntable!
I initially bought the LP60X but the stylus tended to skip on many of my vintage records. The inexpensive components and limited adjustability of the LP60X didn't help the situation. The LP120X is an entirely different level of quality and performance. If you can afford this unit, the differences are very, VERY significant.
This improved LP120X with Bluetooth offers the following benefits vs the LP60X:
- Heavier and more solid overall construction (it's a night and day difference)
- Better stylus and cartridge (AT-VM95E) - easily replaceable and upgradeable as needed
- Direct Drive vs. Belt Drive with heavy duty aluminum platter (with built in speed sensor)
- Greatly improved Tone Arm with easy tracking weight and anti-skating adjustability
- Tone arm light to easily place the stylus on the record in low light conditions.
Be sure to properly adjust the tracking weight and anti-skate. After adjusting, I verified the accuracy of the tracking weight with a quality jewelry scale and it was perfect at 2 grams. I also checked the cartridge alignment with a record protractor. As advertised, it was perfectly aligned from the factory, although don't rely on it due to shipping, etc... it's probably the hardest part of the set-up but very important for balanced sound. Look on YouTube for the numerous videos on how to set-up your turntable properly... don't be lazy :)
Being my first record player purchase in many years I wanted one that would perform and last. I have high expectations of this unit based on my initial experience. I'll update my review in the future if needed.
