Lock good, August connect - Awful
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nowhere on the box does it state that it only works on a certain wifi signal. Customer Service at August was excellent and the poor tech guy tried a million things to help me to try and get it to work - but alas it was not to be.

Did not work well.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The wifi bridge did not work well with the August Smartlock. My apple TV's worked better (3rd or 4th generation). I return the wifi bridge.

It does what it is supposed to do
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This thing has such a short range. I plugged it in 4 -5 ft away from the August smart lock and it was having a hard time finding the Smart Lock. So what I had to do was get an extension cable and reduce the distance to 1 foot away from the smart lock. From there I have had no issues since then. It works as advertised. The only Annoyance is the fact that I have to use an extension cable for from an outlet I only have 4 - 5 feet away from the door. Would I recommend Yes and No. Yes for the capabilities to use your smart Locks instead of using the Bluetooth that takes time to connect too instead of wifi. And No since its a separate Hub that costs like $80 bucks just to add the functionality of how many devices that they offer. I Pay a premium just for the use of the convenience. Without the hub, there is no point in using the smart lock. As trying to connect to the Bluetooth, Well let's just say you can open the door manually faster than waiting for your phone to connect to the Bluetooth. Which then defeats the purpose of the Smart Lock.

Works, but very flaky
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.August connect allows you to control the August Smart Lock through the internet. It does this by connecting to your WiFi router and then using Bluetooth to connect to the lock. So the connect must be placed someplace that it can easily connect to the lock. Because it is a bridge and has to connect twice it is slow and not reliable. Many times I connect to the lock and when I click on the link option it will loose connection foring me to reconnect. When you click on the lock status to lock it, it will not change for a moment and look unresponsive. Remember your phone just sent the command through the internet to your router, which then sent it to your connect via wifi which will then connect to the smart Lock via Bluetooth. Then it reverses the process to send the lock command. The August connect need patience to use. The connect will add an icon on the upper right side of your app. When you want to use the connect open you must connect manually to it. This is not automatic.

Good if you have august door lock
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Essentially you need an august lock to go with it. Without this device I had to be close to unlock my doors, but this helps with Amazon echo voice control. Also able to unlock from anywhere. Best Buy price was the same as other websites and I rather buy from a trusted source. I would recommend this product but august lock system by itself is not always reliable. There would be times where door wouldn't unlock. However it's become a rare occasion where it doesn't work, not sure if an update fixed any issues.

Great 'WHEN' it works...
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I added three of these to 3 HomeKit versions of the lock. Also grabbed a pin pad for one of the doors. All the other devices have been working great but these August Connects can be wildly inconsistent. I have two of them that are plugged no more then 5-7 feet away yet will alternate losing connectivity at least once a day. I do doubt it's my wifi network as nothing else exhibits inconsistent behavior on the network. Setup was also troublesome as for each of the three connect's, setup didn't connect properly initially and required a hard reset of the system to get going. As far as when, it's working, I.e., when it's connected, it's worked everytime as advertised. There is in fact a delay to initiate a wifi lock/unlock but wasn't to a 'deal breaker' level for me personally, especially when considering what it is having to do(wifi to Bluetooth crossover). If you can keep it connected, it's a great device to have to complement the lock. For me, that's been a big 'if'. My recommendation, try it for a week, but save that receipt.

Unacceptably bad design .....
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm in the process of automating our house with Apple's HomeKit, and August's 2nd. generation smart locks, advertised specifically as "HomeKit editions" were the latest purchases I made. The locks themselves work ok -- but HomeKit only sees one as functional if you're standing close enough to it so your cellphone is within Bluetooth range of it, OR you use an Apple TV or iPad designated as a "home hub" that's within Bluetooth range of it. I purchased the Connect, expecting it was a lot cheaper than an Apple TV or iPad as a "range extender" for Bluetooth to make it work. Unfortunately? August doesn't even provide a way to pair up the Connect with HomeKit like they do the August locks. So the ONLY way you can use the Connect bridge is inside their native iOS software. Making matters worse, their software won't use it EITHER unless you tap a special icon in the top right corner of the screen first, each time, to toggle on the fact you need to communicate via the Connect. On top of all that? The Connect has very short Bluetooth range itself. So in my case, I couldn't even get it to talk to my August lock until I plugged it in to an extension cord and practically draped it over the door frame! I was able to buy a used 4th. Generation Apple TV off eBay for only about $25 more than the Connect -- and that turned out to be a FAR superior solution to my problems.

Excellent concept, poor execution.....!
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Product worked o.k. for about 6-9 months... I have excellent fiber optics wifi connection with no problems from any other smart home device but the Bridge. First the bridge would continuously drop off the network periodically and I would receive a thousand emails notifying me that the bridge has lost it's connection. Finally I decided to just try to factory reset the device and it just conked out on me.... I called support and all they have to say is that the device is no longer receiving power..???? Duh... you think...?!?! So basically with out rhyme or reason it died..... The only thing I can conclude is that the device is poorly manufactured with crappy parts - if your looking for a 6-9 month solution this is for you. If your looking for a reasonable solution to remotely monitor, open and close your door. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS JUNK......

Slow, not reliable, poor interface
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've owned this and an August Smartlock for over 1 year, and I've found that the user interface to "connect remotely" is slow, unreliable, and generally cumbersome. My original intent with this was to be able to have someone call me when they arrive at my house and I could remotely let them in. The first day it couldn't connect, I lost my trust in it and almost never rely on it. I'd recommend the Keypad instead (which I now use regularly). I have the Connect located within about 10 feet of the SmartLock, just above the door, well within operational range. The Connect is just 2 feet from my WiFi router.

WIP
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Only works 50% of the time. Painfully long delays when accessing via "wifi" mode to unlock remotely. Every 2-3, nights it goes offline. Usually after midnight. Not sure why. My only notification is iPhone alerts advising lock offline and its several times lasting 30 mins. Annoying. Occasionally it fails. Red light flashes on device and it's 5-10 min before it finally resets itself and flashes green. Overall I like the locking device itself but it's a challenge everyday when using any August devices.

You will still need a key,
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this thinking I could give people access to my beach house when I wasn't there. The first time you can't lock the door while out of town you realize everyone need a key as a backup. What's the point then... very unreliable, little tech support, better options out there. Keep in mind, you're relying on WiFi.
